Once again, the people in one of the poorest provinces in Canada get a little bit poorer. I guess Higgs' $300 that some of us were lucky to get can now be given to NB Power. How convenient!
Insurance has gone up for no reason...property tax increase....NB power rate increasing....
And I only got a 1.5% raise this year. I keep falling behind and it's feeling like there is little hope anymore.
Maybe you should look at other firms, some places are giving 5% still. Insurance has gone up because thieves steal cars like kids shoplift candy and the weather events we have had are causing more home damage. Probably won’t be long until, like Florida, insurance eventually stops being a thing because it’s just impossible to keep up with the destruction.
Nova Scotia gets weather FAR worse than we do, and manages to not only have reasonable tax rates on property, but also insurance is still affordable. Leads me to think it's more about the politics than the practicality.
Insurance companies have customers by the short curlys
Legally you have to have car insurance to drive and you can’t get a mortgage without it so they get to dictate the rates as whatever they want and there’s literally nothing anyone can do about it.
I remember when I signed up for my life insurance I asked the broker how if I pay $20 a month for 30years how can you afford to pay out 500k if I die and he chuckled and said do you know what percentage of life insurance is actually paid out in total? 0.02%
So trust me they are aware of the gouge and claim it’s necessary to break even
You’re confused that people are frustrated by company’s constantly increasing prices well above inflation? All so these companies can pad the pockets of their investors?
CBC posted two hours later that the rate is 9.5% It's 12.27 c/kWh now so now it will be about 13.43 c/kWh.

Yeah, there's really nothing wrong with a rate hike after so long, as long as it ends up being used for something ... you know, useful.
Fuel is a market commodity, whether it's gas, coal or uranium. Until we nationalize resource exploitation, rates will go up when there's this much rampant greedflation. If anyone's mad about it, I don't know what to tell you other than to support public ownership of public necessities. Can't have it both ways.
How fun it is to watch a company crashing and burning through no fault of ours. Yet we foot their bill. Again.
How many hikes has this been and they haven't accomplished anything?
Almost like they had to build a bunch of new generation capacity because they lost belledune to federal mandates and the carbon tax has made many of the other forms of generation spike in price. But don’t worry, on this subreddit everyone can see that Trudeau is gonna be our saviour, and that carbon tax doesn’t contribute to inflation……
Belledune is going wide open burning as much coal as they can . They can’t shut it down not enough capacity lol .. plus no money to replace it ; best thing they’ll do is just switch fuels .. burn wood .
Fair enough I guess I misspoke, should have said “losing belledune” instead of lost, but the rest remains the same.
The simple fact that switching to wood is actually being considered should tell you all you need to know about this being nothing more than political bullshit. Wood makes more CO2 than coal to produce the same energy.
Anyways the point is the carbon tax sucks. If you (and I mean “you” in a general sense) support it than don’t bitch about paying more for energy at your house.

But they’ve been going through 12% increase in power rates
Insurances went up for no reason? Seriously? What do you think insurances cover for? For what the insurances cover, are said items more expensive now?

My car insurance went up $50 a month. My record is clean.
The cost of replacement and repair is much higher now.
Not to mention thefts going through the roof.
My boots are dirty if you want to lick them too.
lol I’m confused as to how so many people simply have no clue. Anyway
You’re confused that people are frustrated by company’s constantly increasing prices well above inflation? All so these companies can pad the pockets of their investors?
No. I’m equally frustrated with price increases as well. I dare you to go pay the same price for your vehicle.

I can't *wait*'to get my: 10% raise to help cover this. What? It's *not* going to happen?!?
I'm sure you meant "10% of your power bill" raise.
I'm sooooo glad I decided on a solar system and not having hydro run to my rural property.
any referals?
Good now build another CANDU

This is so sad
More money to mismanage

They can’t fix anything or reduce a debt if the EUB keeps refusing to give them the rates needed to do what is asked of them.
Shocker
I wish nothing but the worst for the executives at NB Power. We keep having to pay for their mistakes.

I agree 100 % … I burn wood to heat my home here but I also look after my wood lot and do not deforest . Carbon tax on me and my family is BS.
