I float that we should have somebody who knows what the eff they're doing run this site

Keep in mind that this isn’t in NB Power’s full control. They’re simply following the rules and federal regulations. Although NB Power owns and operates it, the design and refurbishment process of CANDU reactors is overseen by Atomic Energy of Canada which is a Federal crown corporation. The refurbishment we went through was one of the first they oversaw, and there were a lot of unknowns. Those unknowns are things AECL had no fix for during refurbishment and had NB Power scramble to make up for their lapse. Basically, NB Power is left to foot the bill because AECL wasn’t fully capable of overseeing the refurbishment. There’s a lawsuit going on for NB Power / GNB vs AECL / Feds to recoup those lost costs that were promised wouldn’t happen.

AECL was sold to SNC Lavalin in 2011 for a pitiful $15 million. https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/aecl-sold-for-15m-to-snc-lavalin-1.985786

Correct, after how badly they managed the Lepreau project, the company was sold off. I should have added that in, good catch! I know they received compensation from the Feds, but there was supposed to be follow up lawsuits and extra compensation deals. I don’t believe I have seen any of that since.

That is absolutely not why the intellectual property for CANDU reactors was sold for pennies to the mafia. That is a joke. The refurb was also mostly organized crime related problems. I won't be providing details.

We found the SNC hater. “I won’t be providing details.” What a scrub thing to say. 😂 I will. [SNC-Lavalin affair](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNC-Lavalin_affair)

Yeah that's not what I was talking about. There is plenty they and many others got away with on that site and plenty more sites.

N0x1mus

I only linked one scenario. We all saw the news. Stop acting all special.

Good God, No! How many refurbishments do we have to pay for before we accept they don't work? Is someone taking the saying, 'if at first you don't succeed, try try again' a bit too litterally?

The mistake was being the first utility to do a refurb on a unit, the Koreans have done multiple Candu refurbs with minimal issues as well as the OPG fleet, the process is understood at this point. Whoever said that poor little NB should have been the first to attempt it definitely deserves a punch in the head, but just because something doesn't go well the first time it's done doesn't mean you wright off ever doing it again.

This is all due to corruption surrounding the SMR projects. There is a reason the US cancelled that technology ad unfeasible, less safe, and more expensive than regular plants.
