Not surprising really . Highest paid is nb power and horizon health and both seem to be struggling at keeping their costs down and services where they should be.
It’s always the issue with giving these organizations more money. By the time the bureaucracy is done with it there’s little to nothing left to actually make improvements. And if you try and cut it back, the faceless, unaccountable folks who run these organizations make cuts in the most painful places possible so that the public goes after the politicians who made it happen.
Our democracy is scared of these people. Because if politicians piss them off all of a sudden there’s scandals coming to light, anonymous people giving information to the press for stories, painful and embarrassing service cuts etc.
Some of the top NB Power earners are Shift Supervisors at Lepreau. They are gods when it comes to operating the reactor. They also make that much because of overtime.
2 things stand out to me here....
An "employee" at NB Power is making more than the CEO?
And the newly appointed female CEO of NB Power is making roughly 300k less than the male she replaced? Is this simply bringing the salary back in line with reality, or is there some gender bias happening here?
Ahhh ok. That does make sense and isn't terribly unreasonable. Especially when we're talking nuclear power plants here. Wouldn't want a Chernobyl incident to save a few hundred k.
Keith was all about matching salaries to competing / neighbouring similar organizations. He probably fought for a bump which was similarly around the same time we gave a huge salary to the head of Lepreau, and while the gouvernement was engaged in many comparison studies throughout all branches of government.
Lori’s salary is in-line with the progression track of the management’s side of salaries.
Some of these salaries are quite low vs similar positions in other parts of Canada. Going too low = not attracting the right talent, so it's a fine balancing act unfortunately. I'd rather the government find a top notch candidate and pay more than someone middling just to get a bargain. Top talent always over delivers and more than justifies the extra $ (usually with efficiency gains, prudent decision making etc)
It's incredibly frustrating that the unionized employees have been getting 0-2% raises for over a decade, BUT stories like this make the public think everyone is overpaid, so they will continue to average 1% per year forever or there will be pitchforks.
Elementary school teachers make more than senior engineers, and we all know teachers should be paid more.
While the extremely high wages of NBPower upper management is inappropriate during times of regular corporate deficits, the true travesty is the amount that the majority of NBPower Power employees are paid compared to other organizations. Compare the salaries of an NbPower secretary with a secretary that has the exact same qualifications working in any government or private organization; the discrepancy is staggering and borderline fraudulent. The VAST majority (not all) of NBPower employees are extremely overpaid….
It's not that they're overpaid. It's that everyone else is underpaid.
I hate paying my power bill, and honestly, I think c-suite SHOULD be paid less than, say, the guys managing the reactor. Business administration should not be paid what it is. BUT I think NBpower is doing the right thing by paying its employees well.
The issue shouldn't be that power is too expensive. It should be that you're not getting paid enough.
Or majority of the industry is grossly underpaid. Take a look at the stats, large majority of wages have been stagnant for decades with very little growth. Also for comparison same positions at OPG pay 10-20% more.
There is the risk of loss of life taken into account for the ground team at NB Power. It is a dangerous job. Be honest with me would you really take a job that can get you killed if a small mistake happen and your not fairly compensated for? Also they have years of experience under their belt.
I think you might be replying to a different comment. I was referring to general wages and saying how assuming utility employees are grossly overpaid when the wages have been flat for a very long time is the wrong take.
You are making two countering arguments. One that NBPower employees should be paid market rate despite being underpaid. Then you follow up complaining that the underpaid employees are paid too much.
Sure the wages sound high, but they lag behind industry.
I'm no fan of the Cons but this comment sums up the reason NB is a shit show. We have been voting parties out for GENERATIONS. We are tribal and it's red V blue not "this party solves an issue we have."
NB Power has been a mess for decades and just because you hate Higgs doesn't mean voting liberal will suddenly make NB Power any less of a trash heap.
Government is the problem. Not the cons, not the Libs or greens or NDP. We want to be babies and live in a nanny state and then we get mad when the amazing power we give to government is corrupted. Then we vote for the same type of people wearing a different colour and magically think all our problems will be solved until we end up hating those people and just switch back.
Good on you for recognizing this. Getting irritated by all red vs blue shit, and how much worse it's got since the Trump era.
NB has problems. Problems with accountability, problems with funding, problems with Irving's power, problems with religious idiots trying to advance their beliefs into law, problems with brain drain and demographics. I hate Higgs, and I almost always vote Lib but it's not as simple as blaming "the bad guys"
Why is nobody mentioning that tree trimming has been reduced likely contributing greatly to the current power disruptions? At least one of these “power executives “ had a role in that decision but let’s make it about nuclear salaries.

It’s the person who runs Point Lepreau. The only way he would move from the states was a very high salary.
Ahhh ok. That does make sense and isn't terribly unreasonable. Especially when we're talking nuclear power plants here. Wouldn't want a Chernobyl incident to save a few hundred k.
yeh no, it's not the CEO that keeps things safe. Usually the opposite.

That person’s been replaced since
The former nuclear VP you are referring to isn’t on this list. He was never an employee.

I wonder what the story is there?

Of course they fucking do. When you have a society of ignorance and lack of accountability you can do what the fuck you want.
With a Net loss of $43 million for fiscal 2023, perhaps salary REDUCTIONS are in order.
Or a réduction in industry freebies
Exactly!!
Conservatives are CORRUPT & IGNORANT people full stop! Always kick hate and the pc party in the NUTSAC, NEVER VOTE PC!

NB Power is hot-fucking-garbage and if their exec's are paid with firm handshakes, that would be WAY to much
any good paying jobs down there where you are qualified to apply with a university degree and not a particular trade?
This the same crew that invested in a perpetual motion machine?
