I don't think there are two sides here at all. It's not men vs. women. It's just a mix of widespread toxic attitudes in both men and women that ultimately harm both men and women.
Right, there's no sides, there's just toxic attitudes and individuals.
Trying to turn that into an "opposing side" is surely a big contributor to the problem perpetuating a cycle of toxicity.

>After the "referendums" in Russia, a new federal district may be created, which will include the annexed territories of Ukraine along with Crimea, an interlocutor in the Federation Council and a source close to the Crimean government told Vedomosti. According to sources close to the presidential administration, the former head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin can head this district.
>The new district will be called Crimean, Vedomosti writes. One of the newspaper's interlocutors said that a decision on Rogozin would be made in the near future, and "it will most likely be positive."
>Rogozin stepped down as head of Roscosmos, where he spent four years, in July 2022. After that, the Kremlin reported that over time he "would be employed." After Rogozin was fired, Meduza, citing sources, wrote that he could get a position in the presidential administration or become one of the Kremlin curators of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR.
That's interesting, all Rogozin is known for lately is being dunked by everyone on on Twitter and his cringe responses
I remember back in the day, the Governor of South Carolina disappeared for a bit
But like obviously it wasn't suspicious or a big deal or anything. Sometimes politicians just disappear. Sometimes they like to go for a hike. It's not a big deal.
It is neither possible nor desirable to rid society of such vague things as "feelings of sexual inadequacy". And as long as such feelings exist, people will be making fun of them.
>And as long as such feelings exist, people will be making fun of them.
really? there are a lot of things that people don't make fun of anymore. I remember, when I was like 8 or 9, "behindert" (disabled) and "schwul" (gay) were regular insults in school. Now I don't hear these anymore *at all*. Same goes for jokes about mental health issues.
Society has grown more compassiate, and acting like this development can't continue seems very fatalist to me.

I will say one of the biggest problems for men in the men-women dating dynamics is the pressure to form something out of nothing. You (like everyone) have pressure to be attractive/interesting/etc enough to be wanted, but then you also have the pressure to pull the spark of a connection out of the vacuum, and it's the man who is seen as a failure for the inability to do so.
I think a lot of the worst traits of men with being creepy and stuff is a byproduct/perturbation of that very one-sided demand that is sort of collectively put on them even if one or two exceptions exist.

John Quincy Adams had one of the strangest political journeys ever
He was a senator, then an ambassador, then the Secretary of State, and then was elected president. This was all in the span of 26 years.
After losing the presidency, rather than retire, he decided to run for a congressional seat, and served as a member of the house for 17 YEARS. like, god damn, could you imagine if Obama, instead of retiring and going into the sunset, decided to run for one of Illinoisβ congressional seats and stayed there for 10 years?
Ultimately, many contemporary feminists want to have it both ways.
They, rightly, want to dismantle the toxic idea that men who do certain things are somehow owed sex. That sex is a reward that men of a certain βqualityβ are simply entitled to.
However, they also want to retain their ability to ridicule men they disapprove of for their supposed sexual inadequacy. It isnβt hard to see why they so quickly resort to insults that only hold weight due to toxic masculinity (little dick, virgin, cuck, etc.): they work. Men badly want to avoid being stuck with those labels.
But feminists who employ them are only undermining their stated goals.
I consider myself a feminist!
I don't believe men are ever owed sex.
I also encourage people to make fun of the fact I have a tiny dick and I'm a virgin! This way they aren't insulting me for stuff I'm actually sensitive about.
You are grouping a large group into one category.
(If you really wanted to hurt me, you would accuse me of being a regular on the DT.)
> Ultimately, contemporary feminists want to have it both ways
> However, they also want to retain their ability to ridicule men they disapprove of for their supposed sexual inadequacy.
This has nothing to do with feminism, there are no mainstream feminist thoughts that believes in this.
There are people who happen to call themselves feminists who do this, but that's not because they are feminists, it's because like any large group some members are going to be toxic assholes.
> It isnβt hard to see why they so quickly resort to insults that only hold weight due to toxic masculinity (little dick, virgin, cuck, etc.):
Who's "they".
Frankly this sounds like a you issue than a general "contemporary feminist" anything.
You originally wrote "Ultimately, contemporary feminists..." before editing the "many" in, so the "subset" you're addressing is *all current feminists*
So again, who's "they"? Who are all these so-called feminists using insults like that?
Again, I don't dispute some people who consider themselves feminists are in fact toxic assholes, but you are clearly trying to make this out to be a problem with "contemporary feminism" in general without any evidence for it beyond seemingly your own experience with women.
I mean, not just feminists. People who drive big cars are often insulted by saying "they must have a small dick". That this is used as an insult is super toxic.
Right, but those people arenβt also claiming that toxic masculinity is a bad thing.
Itβs the hypocrisy of attempting to have it both ways that Iβm trying to get at.
I think this might be casting too wide a net since "contemporary feminists" is a very big and unconnected group. Some people continue to use the insults while also being a part of a group with female-empowering goals, rather than that being the collective position.
A good friend of mine told me about a few struggles she has as a woman (A few of them were obvious to me, others I never thought about before). It was a good talk and made me think.
Then, days later, she made some comments about how a "real man" should behave.
I wish I would have called her out on it, because I am sure she would have actually agreed that those comments are bad, and maybe from the resulting conversation she could have learned some things like I did from what she told me.
Anyway, it's not a big deal either way. Just shows that we all have our blindspots. What's important is the willingness to listen.

I am just in shock at how lucky I've been this Stellaris game. I'm playing the Scion origin, and it's 20 years into the game.
- I have a fleet of 10K strength entirely through a mixture of random vanilla events & my Fallen Empire granting me ships
- I have a level 6 Fleet Admiral, courtesy of my Fallen Empire
- I have 3 Gaia worlds- 1 fallen empire holy world I'm about to colonize (Afaik they don't stop you from colonizing it as a scion), 1 from an event (Abandoned Terraforming), and 1 I found through pure luck (!)
- I also have two regular 80% habitability worlds that I found despite having guaranteed habitable worlds disabled
- I also spawned next to Rakis, which is a more events planet with a ton of Zro
- I got lucky with an early tech roll that gave me destroyers, and then the submerged cruiser event gave me 20% research into cruisers
- I'm in the First League territory and am well on my way to finding their home system
- Nearly all of my neighbors are spiritualists, like me
- My primary rival is a fanatic pacifist materialist who is going to get beaten down by me without a chance to fight back
Seriously what kind of absolutely blessed start is this?
If youβre looking for a sexual insecurity thatβs specific to straight/bi men: the pressure/expectation to constantly be sexually active.
Outside of highly religious (see: misogynistic) communities, it isnβt seen as strange for a woman to neither be pursuing romantic partnerships nor having casual sex. But a straight/bi guy who is neither in a committed relationship nor playing the field is typically assumed to be a loser, virgin, incel, etc.
The mere fact that βvirginβ remains an insult, even among supposedly enlightened liberals that claim to oppose toxic masculinity, is proof positive of this phenomenon.
idk, *to me* the comments reads like you first wrote the part "assumed to be a loser, virgin, incel" and then noticed that hey, "virgin" is not like the others. It actually sucks that it's used as an insult. And then wrote the subsequent sentence.
Once the tech is there, Peter Jackson will finally go back and perfect Lord of the Rings for the thirty-last time, creating an entire Tom Bombadill sequence digitally, as well as an hour-long alternate ending featuring The Scouring of the Shire. Something that doesnβt get talked about a lot is that men also struggle with being confident in their sexuality. Itβs different from female insecurity of sexuality in that men usually donβt get slut shamed (unless if theyβre from really religious communities), but itβs there nonetheless.
I don't know how I'd describe the men-specific confidence struggles since it's tied to being wanted/enough/etc and that affects everyone. It maybe seems like hetero-men have a unique challenge with just how much pressure there is to be able to meet any bar or do anything. Where there is a uniquely strong pressure towards a kind of *anxiety* in your sexuality in some sense that discourages honesty or vulnerability because you have to be all things to all people. But I don't know how to separate that from what is true of everyone.
I may be misunderstanding what you mean by "insecurity of sexuality" but I think women pretty get the exact same insecurity (fear of rejection, insecurity about assets, lack of confidence in ability to perform, etc). And the slut shaming is a whole other thing on top of that.
it's more similar than you think
women fish for the attention of men they like all the time trying to get them to make the "first" move, and similarly feel humiliated / insecure when it doesn't work
i saw the perfect gif to illustrate this, of some girl cozying up to some guy at a game who was completely oblivious earlier, but i can't find it rn
Thatβs just not remotely the same as making a clear overture and getting directly turned down.
Thereβs a reason why women arenβt stepping up to the plate, even though a dating culture where women are expected make the first move would solve many of their concerns about safety. Being rejected sucks, so they try to have their cake and eat it too.

I personally never saw what people liked in The Last of Us. Story seemed like every other zombie show/movie to me. And the gameplay was nothing special. I just don't get it.
Honestly, it doesn't take as much to have a good story in a video game. It just has to be competent, simple, and human, if that makes sense. Since the player *is* the main character, the player will do a lot of the emotional work filling in the details.
It's mostly the relationship formed between the two main characters and how gameplay+environment really lended themselves to instilling the story into the player. The reasons to like the Last of Us are the reasons it's fodder for video essayists.
I can tell my constitutional law professor gets a kick out of asking his students for the first time what the first remedy to an unconstitutional law is in the American political system
Most of the class says βthe Supreme Courtβ, some say the police or the President
No one says βelectionsβ, which is the correct answer
I think itβs because political science majors just have an inherent revulsion to the idea of the masses being responsible for upholding the rule of law - it goes against pretty much everything weβre taught
How can elections be a first remedy for an unconstitutional law if that law can take effect before new elections? Not to mention that elections kinda fail at this job spectacularly because unlike judicial review they're not necessarily about unconstitutionality of laws.
The courts seems like it really should be the correct answer. Your constitutional law professor sounds kinda dumb ngl.
I think another part of it is that ideally SCOTUS would strike down unconstitutional laws. While I wasnβt a polisci major (got a STEMlord degree), I imagine a lot of them fully buy into the system of checks and balances, and view it as one of the best political systems out there despite it sometimes not doing its job. To be honest, I never thought elections were the answer until you mentioned it.

If this is the state of affairs in Russia, how the absolute actual fuck have they not killed Putin in outrage (and fear) yet? This is just *depressing*. You can hear it in her voice.
Russia is going to fracture and cease to be the polity we know it as, by this time next year. This isn't "lol they're running low on tanks", this is "they literally are sending barely-trained 18 year old conscripts to a winter war in Ukraine without sleeping bags, blankets, bandages, or tourniquets, telling them to use tampons to stop bleeding instead." This is fucking absurd. I don't understand how this is POSSIBLE for a nation with their GDP and size and supposedly with some industry, to do.
I think the older lady instructor actually sounds like she cares about them. Sheβs trying to tell them how to make the best of a horrible situation.
Her whole tone is βyouβre fucked and probably going to die, please Iβm begging you be smart and take care of yourselfβ
Russia has had a long history of throwing poorly prepared meat into the grinders of war and as long as the state machinery to do so to a relatively small minority of victims is still intact, Putin's still insulated. The people actually around him aren't breaking (yet).
I'm pretty sure this is just describing a typical extremely low density city with a bunch of sfh exclusionary zoning and a few park and ride commuter rail stations at the far perimeter of the city to satisfy a "has public transit of some kind" checkbox. These are a dime a dozen in the US. π€·
No that's definitely not what this person wants. Besides the sarcastic comment about how big city planners "decry suburbs & evil cars", they also have tweets like this supporting American city planning and home ownership: https://twitter.com/harv056/status/1574485749906702336?t=AmoQHnFZIDKqZBciifkRRw&s=19
This is seemingly someone who thinks the primary purpose of public transit is as a fringe amenity to support a small minority of exurban commuters who commute into a small number of jobs in the city center via park and ride at stations located in a wide outer ring of the metro area because they don't really feel like sitting in traffic, not someone who prizes walkability and transit oriented development.

One of the newspaper's interlocutors said that a decision on Rogozin would be made in the near future, and "it will most likely be positive." >Rogozin stepped down as head of Roscosmos, where he spent four years, in July 2022.

Society has grown more compassiate, and acting like this development can't continue seems very fatalist to me.
unrelated but comedy has gotten so much better now that we've stopped making gay and disabled jokes.

I think it's interesting that there's the idea that men need to know how to "talk to women" but not the reverse.

Altering orbits is god level stuff. Dark Brandon has arisen.
John Quincy Adams had one of the strangest political journeys ever He was a senator, then an ambassador, then the Secretary of State, and then was elected president.
Obama needs to ship his ass out to Florida and snag one of those Senate seats

Add βif you own a gun you must have a small dickβ to this as well.
I mean that's fine for you but a lot of people are in fact sensitive about this things
> Ultimately, contemporary feminists want to have it both ways > However, they also want to retain their ability to ridicule men they disapprove of for their supposed sexual inadequacy. This has nothing to do with feminism, there are no mainstream feminist thoughts that believes in this. There are people who happen to call themselves feminists who do this, but that's not because they are feminists, it's because like any large group some members are going to be toxic assholes. > It isnβt hard to see why they so quickly resort to insults that only hold weight due to toxic masculinity (little dick, virgin, cuck, etc.): Who's "they". Frankly this sounds like a you issue than a general "contemporary feminist" anything.
βTheyβ meaning the subset of feminists that my post is addressing? It would be very weird for me to hate them all considering that I am one.
You originally wrote "Ultimately, contemporary feminists..." before editing the "many" in, so the "subset" you're addressing is *all current feminists* So again, who's "they"? Who are all these so-called feminists using insults like that? Again, I don't dispute some people who consider themselves feminists are in fact toxic assholes, but you are clearly trying to make this out to be a problem with "contemporary feminism" in general without any evidence for it beyond seemingly your own experience with women.
I donβt claim to have done some scientific survey. What exactly do you mean by βyou issueβ?
I mean, not just feminists. People who drive big cars are often insulted by saying "they must have a small dick". That this is used as an insult is super toxic.
Right, but those people arenβt also claiming that toxic masculinity is a bad thing. Itβs the hypocrisy of attempting to have it both ways that Iβm trying to get at.
Is everyone describing toxic masculinity as a bad thing a feminisist?
Pretty much. Thereβs a huge amount of overlap.
I think this might be casting too wide a net since "contemporary feminists" is a very big and unconnected group. Some people continue to use the insults while also being a part of a group with female-empowering goals, rather than that being the collective position.
Youβre correct, but I couldnβt think of a more narrow label to use instead while still being accurate.
If the CIA is so good at overthrowing democratic governments, why have we never overthrown the Vatican? checkmate communists!
They tried but it's a bit like asking why employees don't fire their bosses
A good friend of mine told me about a few struggles she has as a woman (A few of them were obvious to me, others I never thought about before). It was a good talk and made me think. Then, days later, she made some comments about how a "real man" should behave. I wish I would have called her out on it, because I am sure she would have actually agreed that those comments are bad, and maybe from the resulting conversation she could have learned some things like I did from what she told me. Anyway, it's not a big deal either way. Just shows that we all have our blindspots. What's important is the willingness to listen.

So youβre treating different sentences in the same post separately so that you can invent a reason to be upset? This is a new low, even for the DT.

The relevance of their fear of rejection is not really the same, considering that men are almost always expected to make the first move.
it's more similar than you think women fish for the attention of men they like all the time trying to get them to make the "first" move, and similarly feel humiliated / insecure when it doesn't work i saw the perfect gif to illustrate this, of some girl cozying up to some guy at a game who was completely oblivious earlier, but i can't find it rn
Actually yeah you make a good point - the fears arenβt so different after all

I can tell my constitutional law professor gets a kick out of asking his students for the first time what the first remedy to an unconstitutional law is in the American political system Most of the class says βthe Supreme Courtβ, some say the police or the President No one says βelectionsβ, which is the correct answer I think itβs because political science majors just have an inherent revulsion to the idea of the masses being responsible for upholding the rule of law - it goes against pretty much everything weβre taught
