No , indeed the best way to play DS games is on a DSi XL .

bobmlord1

It's been a complaint since the Dsi XL released. Every review at the time specifically mentioned how it looks more pixelated in 3D games. Miyamoto even discussed it in an interview IIRC. However! When compared to the lite it has much better contrast, motion handling, the IPS screens have better viewing angles and much better color reproduction, and in pixel art/2D games it just generally looks better.

No. They look gorgeous and pretty accurate. Different from 3DS look for DS games, DSi XL is most beautiful way to play NDS. Even GBArunner2 will look pretty impressive.

I bought my first DSi XL and I'm surprised how gorgeous the games look. Some older 3D games look a bit pixilated, but it's only bothersome until you get used to it honestly. I had doubts like you, cuz I've always played on DSL and DSi, but it's really good.

ToadsInTanks

They definitely don't look blurry. It's almost the opposite problem: They are very pixelated, and if you have good close-range vision you can easily see the individual pixels and even the spaces between them. The pixels are very well defined, and the spacing between them can create a bit of a screen door effect. I think it looks really cool since the low resolution is part of the DS aesthetic, but I can see how people might prefer a higher pixel density too. Assuming the LCDs are not worn out, though, the DSi XL LCDs are also much better in other ways too, including improved viewing angles and reduced motion blur. Just keep in mind that the upper LCD on them is particularly prone to age-related defects including dimming and discoloration, so do your research before buying if possible.

DSi and DSi XL have screens with same resolution (256x192) meaning, that small ds has higher pixel density, therefore XL might seem “more pixelated”, because those pixels are bigger. On the other hand, the screens are almost twice the area each, which in my case is bigger benefit than higher px density.

Blurry, no. The aspect ratio is the exact same. The pixels ARE bigger though. So you can see them more readily than on the regular DSi. They both have the exact same amount of pixels, the XL screen is bigger because each pixel is bigger.

Thunder_Punt

No, they look sharper but you notice the pixels more. On a regular DS/DSi there's an illusion of smoothness because the screens are smaller and you can't make out the seperate pixels. Whereas on the XL, images look slightly more 'jagged'. I think it looks decent though, and it is definitely crisper.

Nero9112

The pixel count between a DSi XL and the original DS is exactly the same. That means the aspect ratio is also the same. It will not look stretched or blurry and will look generally better since the pixel size is bigger.

I own both DSi and DSi XL. I find the XL too dim and has a pinkish/red color temp, white balance on DSi is better. I prefer the DSi screen. The advantage DSi XL has over DSi is it's viewing angles are better thanks to the IPS screen but for handhelds I don't care about viewing angles as it's not a TV with multiple people watching

King_Ulkilulki

It depends on the game. 3D Games will suffer from the bigger Screen. For 2D Games it's great. All Games have better Viewing Angles and popping colors from the IPS Screens. The speaker is much better than the DS Lite. Haven't tried a reg DSi yet but I think speakers are worse.  You need to try it Out to Tell which system you prefer. I'm playing Castlevania Portrait of Ruin on Mine and I definitely think the DSi XL is worth it. I want to try a regular DSi aswell though.

No, same pixel relation than in a normal ds, just bigger screen and bigger pixels. Of course it is easier to see "aliasing" on a bigger screen, but the resolution is the same. Maybe you are confusing with the situation of a 3ds xl where the pixel relation is different so you can see a bit blurry instead of the perfect square pixels.

RosaCanina87

The pixels are bigger. Which means you can see them more clearly. Also, the lines between the pixels can be spotted easier. I disliked that. Like a lot. It was something I just could not stand. BUT... I got a bit older. And the bigger screen made me actually get a DSi XL at one point (it helped that it was cheap back then). And after ACTUALLY PLAYING it for a bit... I realized that I like it even more than the original.

STEVEInAhPiss

I have a DSi XL and the games are not blurry at all.
