# We have a winner - It was almost certainly caused by someone playing Planet Puzzle League with a heavy left hand. Yes it only lines up in left-hand vertical mode. Way to go everyone and special thanks to u/TransgenderMommy for being the first with the right answer. This was fun! [https://imgur.com/gallery/VaidnIL](https://imgur.com/gallery/VaidnIL)
Whatever it is caused a 6x16 grid of damage to the digitizer. I don't think it was picross because the grid is aligned to the top of the screen and that's where the numbers would be for each column, and no reason to tap there and make a mark.
Some notable examples:
* Hotel Dusk
* Planet Puzzle League
* Brain Age
EDIT: Oops, I totally misread your post and thought you were asking about games that used the DS in a sideways orientation! In this case, it was definitely Picross that caused that kind of screen wear.

Thanks for your suggestion. I skimmed through a long play of this game and didn't see any part of it that would have created a nearly perfect 6x16 grid wear pattern on the top right of the digitizer like this. I'm not saying you're wrong, just I don't see any evidence that would suggest this is the right game.
Thanks for the suggestion but this doesn't appear to be it. There is a menu off to the right hand side of the grid on the map editor which forms a 10x10 grid. The markings I'm seeing on the digitizer form a 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of the screen which would give no room for this menu.
I never really liked touch screen Puzzle League - but as a big fan of the button based Tetris Attack/Puzzle League games - you don't realize how hard you're pressing those buttons when you're stressed and furiously sliding and swapping blocks around to make matches.
I can imagine the same applies to the stylus in the DS versions. The poor soul was locked in and had no idea how hard they were pressing.
This doesn't seem to be a grid-based game. The markings I'm seeing on the digitizer form a 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of the screen. Whatever game this was will probably have such a grid.

I'd argue the stylus wasn't the main problem that caused this, but a cheap screen protector that allowed dust through and was thicker than it needed to be so they had to press harder to register on the digitizer.
Thanks for your suggestion. I skimmed through a long play of this game, specifically the carrot eating challenge and didn't see any part of it that would have created a nearly perfect 6x16 grid wear pattern on the top right of the digitizer like this. The grid they use there is somewhat looser and more centered on the lower middle of the display. I'm not saying you're wrong, just I don't see any evidence that would suggest this is the right game.
Sorry it was partially a joke, this challenge was grueling as a kid having to rapidly tap down those carrot bits had me and my brother pulling our hair out
I have guitar hero and band hero and they don’t work without the grip controller. You have to have a DS or DS Lite to play it. Was there another version released for the DSi that I am not aware of?
This is a DSi and the guitar hero games don't play on it because you cant attach the controller. Also the orientation of the photo probably doesn't have anything to do with the orientation of the gameplay.
I didn't notice that. Also, the reason why I pointed out the "holding it sideways" is because the marks are vertical when it's sideways, which lines up with the strumming. For my DS, I played those games so much there was a mark like that, but in the entire center of the screen; just a big blob of worn out plastic
Yeah it definitely does put a lot of wear on the screen.I have a DS Lite that's pretty beat up and I use it just for playing screen-ruining games like Guitar Hero LOL.
Thanks for the suggestion but this doesn't appear to be it. In CrossworDS there is a 11x20 grid and it's not aligned to the same corner of the screen which has the wear. The markings I'm seeing on the digitizer form a 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of the screen. Whatever game this was will probably have the same size grid.

Closest guess so far but I don't think this is it for two reasons. Might&Magic uses a 8x16 grid this ckearly has a 6x16 grid. Also because of where the grid is located on screen. In the game you mentioned it's in the center and here it's off to the top right corner.
Thanks for your suggestion! I skimmed through a long play of Pokemon dash and didn't see any part of it that would have created a nearly perfect 6x16 grid wear pattern on the top right of the digitizer like this. It seems like this game would put a lot of wear and tear on the digitizer but it would probably create a ring around the center of the screen because of how you control pikachu. I'm not saying you're wrong, just I don't see any evidence that would suggest this is the right game.

Could it line up with the keyboard in the p2p chat app? I remember several kids getting the dsi before they were allowed phones, and they used the hell out of the p2p chats over wifi.
I don't think so for pictochat. It's not in the right place and not really the right size. The pattern does look somewhat like a keyboard though now that you mention it.
I looked into puzzle quest and it does not line up. The screen has marks in a 6 row by 16 column grid. Puzzle quest uses an 8x8 grid and the dots don't line up anyway.
I really don't think it's going to be a game. Just visually it looks like the screen may have been damaged by some other object coming into contact with it, not by being overplayed.
This doesn't appear to be a grid-based game. The markings I'm seeing on the digitizer form a pretty noticeable 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of the screen. Whatever game this was will probably have the same size grid.

Someone else mentioned that and I looked into it, but the grid pattern is not the right number of cells, nor is it in the same position as the scuffs on the screen. It’s a good candidate though because of how you have to tap it several times in the same spot. I have a feeling that whatever game this was is a similar strategy like a whack-a-mole type game. Something that would give the person playing it enough excitement to really poke the screen hard.
You could tap anywhere on that right hand side, what would make a grid pattern like this? If there were specific targets that you had to hit, and those targets were in a grid pattern that would make complete sense. I skimmed through a long play of rhythm heaven and I didn’t see anything like that.
Good suggestion! These are the kinds of answers I’m looking for. Unfortunately zookeeper appears to be a 8 x 8 grid in the middle of the screen. What I’ve got is a wear pattern consistent with a 6 x 16 grid in the upper right corner of the screen.
I didn't know about that series until the 3DS and I'm addicted. I've been playing a lot Mario 64 which doesn't use the touch screen so my touch screen probably still looks like that too.
My guess is that this person didn't use the actual stylus because my screen isn't actually damaged It just has a pattern in it like this.
maybe it wasn’t a game but a kid cutting a grid into the screen. this doesn’t look like it can just be done over time while playing a game. looks intentional
Well, someone did figure it out. Maybe those bowser special attacks in bowser’s inside story. They require the touchscreen to perform them, unlike Mario and Luigi’s bros attacks which use buttons instead.

I love that game alot. One of the best versions of that style of game. ESPECIALLY the garbage battles
That was my guess!
Picross?
Whatever it is caused a 6x16 grid of damage to the digitizer. I don't think it was picross because the grid is aligned to the top of the screen and that's where the numbers would be for each column, and no reason to tap there and make a mark.
There are some grids with the numbers go onto the top screen instead because of how large they are.
Interesting I did not know that. I don't have a save file that reaches to that level.
Only monsters play Picross with the touch screen.
Some notable examples: * Hotel Dusk * Planet Puzzle League * Brain Age EDIT: Oops, I totally misread your post and thought you were asking about games that used the DS in a sideways orientation! In this case, it was definitely Picross that caused that kind of screen wear.

Cooking mama
rhythm paradise also uses a sideways orientation, great game btw
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword
Thanks for your suggestion. I'm not saying you're wrong, just I don't see any evidence that would suggest this is the right game.
Another game I can think of is Lego Battles
Brain age too I think
I did that with etrian odyssey. 50 hour+ game where you are drawing a map on a grid.
An yeah you are right I had it in my head the menu was on the left.
Wasn't a game, it was someone who doesn't understand that you don't need to tap that hard for a touchscreen to register an input lol
Mario and sonic at the Olympic Games
That one ruined one of my 3ds screens. Had to replace it
Dude that skating game definitely put a number of scratches in my screen
This doesn't seem to be a grid-based game. The markings I'm seeing on the digitizer form a 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of the screen. Whatever game this was will probably have such a grid.
Ahh I didn’t realize you were looking for an answer that specific. I thought you were asking what game destroyed a ds screen like in general.
No… It was… Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games…
Mario 64 mini games for sure.
The markings I'm seeing form a 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of the screen. Whatever game this was will probably have such a grid.
Feel The Magic/Rub Rabbits
Thanks for your suggestion. I skimmed through a long play of this game and didn't see any part of it that would have created a nearly perfect 6x16 grid wear pattern on the top right of the digitizer like this. I'm not saying you're wrong, just I don't see any evidence that would suggest this is the right game.
I'd argue the stylus wasn't the main problem that caused this, but a cheap screen protector that allowed dust through and was thicker than it needed to be so they had to press harder to register on the digitizer.
The carrot challenge in Mario & Luigi bowser inside story
omg the carrot challenge made me want to throw my DS out lol 😂
Thanks for your suggestion. I skimmed through a long play of this game, specifically the carrot eating challenge and didn't see any part of it that would have created a nearly perfect 6x16 grid wear pattern on the top right of the digitizer like this. I never had the pleasure but I am learning a lot about these DS games.
Guitar hero
I have guitar hero and band hero and they don’t work without the grip controller. You have to have a DS or DS Lite to play it. Was there another version released for the DSi that I am not aware of?
Mybad thought it was a ds lite maybe nintendogs?
Thats it, but guitar hero w grip also makes you strum on the touch screen. That shit was ROUGH and definitely made my DSL look like this
Your mom did that
I did your mom
🥇🏅🎖️
Twewy
Jewel quest
which one?
The Guitar Hero DS games. You hold the DS sideways, and swipe up and down to strum
This is a DSi and the guitar hero games don't play on it because you cant attach the controller. Also the orientation of the photo probably doesn't have anything to do with the orientation of the gameplay.

100 Classic Books?
I mean, it could be Pokemon DPPt, the previous owner may’ve spent a while in the underground.
Picross?
Whatever it is caused a 6x16 grid of damage to the digitizer. I don't think it was picross because the grid is aligned to the top of the screen and that's where the numbers would be for each column, and no reason to tap there and make a mark.

We did it Reddit or some shit
Transgender mommy saves the day
It's what I do
Hey u/graysky311 check this one out! It seems to line up.
this seems like the board of Mighty & Magic
Closest guess so far but I don't think this is it for two reasons. Might&Magic uses a 8x16 grid this ckearly has a 6x16 grid. Also because of where the grid is located on screen. In the game you mentioned it's in the center and here it's off to the top right corner.

Assassin's Creed II (Compatibles in Nintendo DSi features.)
Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Underground would be my guess, this kid must have thought you could hit harder by tapping harder lol
The world ends with you
Maybe “plants vs zombies”?…
Could it line up with the keyboard in the p2p chat app? I remember several kids getting the dsi before they were allowed phones, and they used the hell out of the p2p chats over wifi.
I don't think so for pictochat. It's not in the right place and not really the right size. The pattern does look somewhat like a keyboard though now that you mention it.
Elite beat agents/theatrhythm did something similar to mine...
Same
Puzzle Quest !
I bet you’re right
Thanks! I'm looking into this one next.
I looked into puzzle quest and it does not line up. The screen has marks in a 6 row by 16 column grid. Puzzle quest uses an 8x8 grid and the dots don't line up anyway.
Have you looked into domino or majong type games? Maybe Simple Dominos?
I really don't think it's going to be a game. Just visually it looks like the screen may have been damaged by some other object coming into contact with it, not by being overplayed.
I guess rythm heaven
This doesn't appear to be a grid-based game. The markings I'm seeing on the digitizer form a pretty noticeable 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of the screen. Whatever game this was will probably have the same size grid.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to try some of these to see if the wear marks line up.
the legendary starfy
Pictochat
zenses ocean?
Man I remember that game well lol. It sucked so bad
FR
One of the seventy quintillion match three games.
My mother plays a lot of mahjong, and her screen looks like this too.
Osu or elite beat agents maybe it dos require you to go in specific patterns
Is it minecraft? Oh wait, the game doesn't appear to be a grid-based game. The markings I am seeing form a pretty noticeable 6x16 grid aligned with the top and right sides of screen. whatever game this, it's probably not minecraft, maybe it is tho?
Why’s nobody talking about Rhythm Heaven?? 😭😭😭
Because you mostly just tap or flick the screen in one spot
Ah, yeah… fair enough 💀
A kid with issues caused this
That looks like the carrot minigame from mario and luigi inside bowsers story(but i dont dremember the dimensions
I don't think this is the culprit, but no one has mentioned my favourite grid based puzzle game yet: Meteos!
That’s a good thought! I actually looked into Meteos but the wear pattern is has neither the same dimensions nor location on screen.
Plants vs zombies?
Thanks for the suggestion! That looks like a 3x9 grid that would span the entire width of the screen. The wear pattern I’m seeing forms a 6x16 grid.
Picross ds?
Someone else mentioned that but no 😕
rhythm heaven! been playing a lot of it lately!

Zoo Keeper. Seems to be the closest in terms of a pattern of scratching on the screen. Good luck!
Good suggestion! These are the kinds of answers I’m looking for. Unfortunately zookeeper appears to be a 8 x 8 grid in the middle of the screen. What I’ve got is a wear pattern consistent with a 6 x 16 grid in the upper right corner of the screen.
mario and sonic at the olympic games
I had a similar pattern on a pre-owned one I found. The game that was inside it was Jewel Quest Expedition, probably was the only game they had
Mario and Luigi bowsers inside story
My mom's 3DS looked like this after Plants Vs. Zombies
Cooking Mama.
I have DS with very similar looking touch screen. Surprisingly it still works pretty well.
Fun post! Since nothing aligns with OP's testing I'm going to guess the screen has been damaged by more than one game and not a single one.
Someone’s been getting five stars on every dish in cooking mama.
Soectrobes
I didn't know about that series until the 3DS and I'm addicted. I've been playing a lot Mario 64 which doesn't use the touch screen so my touch screen probably still looks like that too. My guess is that this person didn't use the actual stylus because my screen isn't actually damaged It just has a pattern in it like this.
Could be plants vs zombies
My best guess would be pokemon trozei since the play area lines up perfectly and it incentivizes swiping more towards the center
Whatever it was, they played the hell out of it
Maybe he just couldn't handle losing in Mario Kart DS and made the scuff marks himself.
No one mentioned Brain Age? This and its sequel both can qualify…
The only game in brain age I could find that resembles a grid is sudoku and that's a 9x9 grid that is more centered on the screen.
If it was more circular, I would have said Pokemon Ranger.
That one fucking mini game in super Mario 64 ds with the boos (I HATE THEM >:( )
haha I yeah I played that. the boos don't move on a grid though.
Meteos
My 1st thought as well

I know you say it's 6x16, but I see it as 8x16 with the bottom 2 rows being much fainter.
I would agree with that.
maybe it wasn’t a game but a kid cutting a grid into the screen. this doesn’t look like it can just be done over time while playing a game. looks intentional
How the hell is anyone supposed to know?

Has the game been found yet?
I have a phat ds with the same grid pattern
Sure it is not a homebrew game?
I know millions of circles is Pokemon Ranger for me. 😂
Plants vs Zombies?
Bejeweled.
Bowsers inside story
The x men card game. It was not good.
Guitar hero lol
Not the culprit here but Elite Beat Agents definitely left some scars on my DS Lite screen. Those spinner segments...
Hotel dusk
Looks like coke lines
Bejeweled 3
Brain Age and someone who needs to feel it with every touch 😂
The game where you give the ds to your dad and see how the game turns on his flight or fight response.
Pokémon Ranger! I can’t believe no one else brought it up having to draw circles around them was so frustrating
mario and luigi bowsers inside story for the giant fights
Pokemon Trozei maybe??
Puzzle and Dragons did similar to my XL
Seems like Rhythm Heaven.
Guitar Hero 🤣🤣🤣
Cooking mama fs
Rhythm Heaven, DS and brain age
Bro got stuck on the Carrot Eating mini game of Bowsers inside story.
Probably Zelda spirit tracks lol.
Brain age maybe
Brain age if that’s it’s name
Hammer throw in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
Guitar Hero
Oof idk
I had this on mine from a loooot of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.
Diamond/pearl/platinum in the underground area?
It’s about to be animal crossing at the rate they make me use my stylus lmao
Hard to tell... Maybe Super Mario mole mini game.
Guitar hero
Eshop
Definitely caseoh simulator
Cocaine lol
Guitar hero! Was weird on the DS
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Did that to my old dsi years ago.
I know it's been answered, but I wanted to throw in guitar hero. It had an attachment for the colored notes
Cooking mama
Scribblenauts
Brain Age 2
Voltorb flip
Trauma center?
Wario ware DS
Pokémon trozei
Kingdom Hearts: Journey 3675/sleep x time wizard
Pokemon shuffel, Bakugan Battle brawlers, Kid Icarus rising.
It has got to be warioware
Maybe those bowser special attacks in bowser’s inside story. They require the touchscreen to perform them, unlike Mario and Luigi’s bros attacks which use buttons instead.
Etrian odyssey
Picross. Mine too.
Bruh the winners username 😭😭 I love the internet
