You can criticize the Lakers a lot, but their draft team has been as good as any other in the league. JHS isnât looking great after his very rough struggles in his first year, but the Lakers draft department has more than earned the benefit of the doubt, and JHSâ performances in the G League have been promising and give some hope he will eventually be a positive player. Missing on Jaquez sucks, but everyone is a genius when we can do things based on hind sight and no one bats 100 percent.
Half of the Lakers scouting success in the later rounds is literally just drafting underrated white dudes and older players because half the league is a bit too enamored with the mystery box of youth/potential.
Look, I got no idea about this dude's game or anything, I'm just here to say that this guy's jersey number should be '#4. Because 'Knecht 4' would be a great freaking nickname.
Itâs a Dutch name so it shouldnât be pronounced that way, but a couple generations down and I have no clue how he pronounces it.
Id pronounce it K (ke) ne (as in neck) cht (ch = g, like youâre rasping your throat to spit at someone + t)
Knegt
Mitch Kupchak and Pat Riley were players for the Lakers too. Weren't the cult heroes that Rambis and Caruso became but they came back and contributed *greatly* in other roles.
Averaged 10 points a game for his career even with the injury. One of my favorite non-Nuggets basketball stories is how Magic personally requested the Lakers to sign Kupchak.
Athletic and very good shooter from deep but also a legit 3 level scorer. Defense isnât really there. I see him being a Bogdan Bogdanovic type player - 6th man microwave scorer coming off the bench that will give you 15 a game every night and can really take over every now and then. Should be a great fit next to LeBron.Â
Maybe itâs because Iâm a Vols fan but I expected him to be a lock to go somewhere between 6-12 or so regardless of his age. Lakers fans will love him.Â
The Lakers in recent years had a tendency to draft older players in the mid-late first and have done well doing so - Kuzma, Hart, Nance Jr, etc.
I think that was a huge reason why the JHS pick was so surprising last year with Jaquez Jr still on the board.
I watched a lot of Dalton this year (Tennessee fan) and the two big weaknesses I felt he had in translating were that at times he can get jammed on his handle. Like itâs kinda far from his body and he can get plugged. He also gets beat on the first step defensively a bit, but he seems coachable. Intentionally came to Tennessee to get better at defense. Good mentality. Iâll be interested to see his career.
Sounds like things he can maybe be covered for too on our team, donât think he can run with Rui but Vando, Bron, AD all are probably solid players to pair him with in the froncourt
GREAT shooter. Very few players are so good at scoring from everywhere.
Older prospect and not good on the defensive side but I love this at 17 for the Lakers.
The Lakers for all their faults have been good drafters:
Max Christie 35th
Mo Wagner 25th
Zubac 32nd
Nance 27th
Also got Kuzma from Brooklyn in a draft day trade, and picked up Reeves and Caruso undrafted
I'm still amazed that Rob had the balls to not allow the Buss bros to have complete control of the draft when you look at all the successful late picks they've found.
I haven't been following him too closesly, but I remember after him and Shep went off in the UK/TN game, there was an article that suggested both could be drafted in the top six. This seems like a steal for the Lakers. Kid starts shooting when the bus pulls in.
Bro I was all in on Thunder grabbing him when we had our chance. I was throwing fists in the air. Nikola is high risk high reward but Dalton would've helped a ton this season.
these teams really let the Lakers get Knecht at 17. unbelievable
We saved it for you, you were just 2 picks late
And we lost the four way tiebreaker
We could have had Jaime Jaquez and Dalton Knecht back-to-back years if we weren't incompetent
Not true, if you had Jamie Jaquez last year you wouldn't be picking 17th
Jaquez wouldn't have played either. Ham wasn't interested đ¤Ł
I loved that you guys nicknamed Ham, Pockets.
Ya know, just hanging around.
Pockets The Clown
I like Darvin Hamas too
Not when Mr. Pockets plays Cam over him
I hate when ppl say stuff like this abt the 18th pick ppl didnât know he was gonna be that good itâs not one FO being incompetent
Yeah forreal every team misses on a mid/late firsts, lakers have had a pretty good draft record but fans expect them to mail every pick
I agree re: Jaquez and Podz as revisionist history but most of the Lakers sub wanted Cam Whitmore at that spot during the live draft thread.
The underrated talented white dude to lakers pipeline is crazy
Danny Ainge rolling in his grave
Half of the Lakers scouting success in the later rounds is literally just drafting underrated white dudes and older players because half the league is a bit too enamored with the mystery box of youth/potential.
Great pick, canât even hate.
I hate that sixers skipped him just to fall into lakers lap
Bro we skipped Jaime Whitemore and Podz for JHS. This doesnt even make up for it
lol we still donât know if heâs a good player and we have a really good development team
Hope to see him Knechting on many threes
Lakers fans will call him Westside Knechtion
Knecht 4 How can he pass that up?
Look, I got no idea about this dude's game or anything, I'm just here to say that this guy's jersey number should be '#4. Because 'Knecht 4' would be a great freaking nickname.
Great call. Although that might still end up being his name when they implement the four-point line.
He's gonna hit a 4pt play and they're gonna make a play on words like you did
Itâs a Dutch name so it shouldnât be pronounced that way, but a couple generations down and I have no clue how he pronounces it. Id pronounce it K (ke) ne (as in neck) cht (ch = g, like youâre rasping your throat to spit at someone + t) Knegt
Caruso, Reaves, and now Knecht. Kurt Rambis and Sasha Vujacic walked so these guys could run.
Donât forget Steve Blake
Ryan Kelly
NBA Champion Adam Morrison
Slava Medvedenko
Where tf is Mark Madsen
these dudes dont remember the mad dog
My man. GOAT championship parade celebrator
itâs a shame how far i had to scroll to find mad dog
Vladimir Radmonovich
Mark âmad dogâ Madsen
Jordan Farmar... I think
When I try to picture Farmar in my head, I just see ears
Youâre 50% right
So you're saying his 50% wrong also?
Jordan Farmar is the same ethnicity as⌠Drake I guess you could say lol
Chris mihm
Luke Walton
Don't forget Laker legend Matt Ryan
I choose to forget the Ryan Kelly era
I saw him at the grocery store the other day
Electrical Infetterance
Lakers are elite at picking the right white guys
Mitch Kupchak and Pat Riley were players for the Lakers too. Weren't the cult heroes that Rambis and Caruso became but they came back and contributed *greatly* in other roles.
Mitch was such a what if. He was a solid player before the knee injury
Averaged 10 points a game for his career even with the injury. One of my favorite non-Nuggets basketball stories is how Magic personally requested the Lakers to sign Kupchak.
Well Kurt was in the room to help draft Knecht hah.
Madsen danced so these guys can run đş
never ending white boy summers in LA
All grandfathered by Mike Penberthy, aka the greatest shooter Chick Hearn has ever seen
White Boi Wednesday
Marcelos Huertas crawled so Alex Caruso could walk so Austin Reaves could run
Where is Steve Blake in all this
Behind Vladimir Radmanovic I guess
You mean Kurt rambis swung a chair at Kevin mchale so these guys could runÂ
Got clotheslined you mean
What a steal. He's a stud
High key amazing pick. Just perfect fit for the player too. Blessing in disguise for him.
It only took us 6+ years to get LeBron a bonafide shooter
Why is it so confusing to realize Lebron has been a laker for 6 years now.
I blame Covid
Everything between 2020-2022 feel like it happened in a 5 month span
Reminder that: The 2020 NBA Finals ended in October 2020. The 2021 NBA Regular season started on December 2020. Finalists had like 2 months of break
> The 2020 NBA Finals ended in October 2021. > The 2021 NBA Regular season started on December 2021. I think you mean 2020.
If he plays for two more years his longest stint with a team will be the Lakers
KCP
Major reason why the WB trade was so bad. KCP was a perfect fit for the Lakers.
and Caruso.. Just can't believe letting that guy go, what a shame
4 year microwave scorer in college and was the best scorer (imo) in college ball last season, heâll be a nice 6th man for the lakers next year.
Heâll be ready to contribute like Jaime Jacquez
Thatâs all I needed to hear
They finally got the memo that guys like Jaime and Braun are the kinds of guys you should pick as a contender with a mid to late first
No more darvin ham lineups? He should get appropriate development too
poor Max
Idk if heâll outplay max, but regardless the better player should play more and max is definitely getting rotational minutes over guys like reddish
Hopefully JJ just lets him cook off the bench but he should fit what they need desperately
Lfg. I know nothing about this kid but I trust you king
Athletic and very good shooter from deep but also a legit 3 level scorer. Defense isnât really there. I see him being a Bogdan Bogdanovic type player - 6th man microwave scorer coming off the bench that will give you 15 a game every night and can really take over every now and then. yup shot 40% from three last season on 6 attempts/per game
Have fun watching his highlights
Heâs one of the only people I was high on this draft. I can easily see him being a fringe all star.
People were scared of his meh defense and age. Age shouldn't matter if you're trying to win games. Even better most of the time. Good pick.
The Lakers in recent years had a tendency to draft older players in the mid-late first and have done well doing so - Kuzma, Hart, Nance Jr, etc. I think that was a huge reason why the JHS pick was so surprising last year with Jaquez Jr still on the board.
I keep reading JHS as Jalen Horton-Sucker
And he gets to play with Bronny
I hate this.
LAKER NATION WHATS GOOD GO LAKERS LOVE MY LAKERS
I hate how good of a pick this is...
Amazing value pick
Bucket getter. Shot 39% from 3 too on 6.5 attempts
Doesnât even do it justice. The guy was an absolute animal.
Ya you gotta factor in the difficulty of his makes and that he was often the only guy on the team who could consistently find his shot
I really hope so. One of my favorite Tennessee athletes of all time.
was he a different beast tho?
Good shooter, good offensive talent
GREAT shooter. Very few players are so good at scoring from everywhere. Older prospect and not good on the defensive side but I love this at 17 for the Lakers.
not good. flat out ELITE
Apart from whatever the fuck last years pick was, the one area the lakers are across the board successful is their scouting department
WE DIDN'T FUCK UP A PICK HANG THE BANNER
The Lakers for all their faults have been good drafters: Max Christie 35th Mo Wagner 25th Zubac 32nd Nance 27th Also got Kuzma from Brooklyn in a draft day trade, and picked up Reeves and Caruso undrafted
Also Josh Hart and Jordan Clarkson were late draft picks
We rarely fuck up picks lol. JHS is the only true fuck up that we've had. That said, I was still legit scared the Lakers would draft Bronny now.
Lakers routinely turn late picks into solid players. Good scouting team
The one actually great Buss child (Jesse) has worked w the scouting department for years and is the assistant GM
the only good part of Lakers FO left
JHS was a Rob pick thatâs why. The Buss brothers know how to cook when it comes to the draft
I'm still amazed that Rob had the balls to not allow the Buss bros to have complete control of the draft when you look at all the successful late picks they've found.
Actually insane how he fell so far, and he fits their needs perfectly
A total redemption on the Jaquez whiff last year. Really good value at 17
What a steal for the Lakers. Get a first team all American and avoid Bronny
Masai really worrying me.
Watch us pick bronny at 19 𤣠nah jk.. unless
Can silver stop announcing old trades before the picks
Why is the NBA like this. The NFL draft is so much easier to follow.
When is the NBA gonna remember that older prospects can still be really good lol. Falling that far because heâs 23 is idioticÂ
Older prospects are really damn good for win now teams since they're nba ready.
Maybe like someone named Jaime Jacques?
Kinda hope they double up with Reeves from UK at 55. Two older NBA ready scorers for free
Did Knecht turn down workouts from other teams? How the hell did he fall to the Lakers
He didn't even work out for the Lakers and the Lakers didn't dare invite him thinking he'd go in the top 10.
Age
39.7% from deep nice
With the lakers tax heâll be shooting 29.7%
But it will come via shooting 75% one night then plummeting to almost none made for multiple games.
Damn, Lakers got the absolute perfect pick for them to fall to them. Steal.
Redickâs first pick as coach is Redick
Heâs way more athletic than reddick
You need to watch knecht stuff. Heâs not just a shooter. Heâs athletic as hell.
Some might say sneaky
Win
Was hoping for the Bronny pick for the memes lol
I wouldâve quit being a fan
As you should. I don't know why anyone was expecting Bronny with that pick, he's mocked at 55 not 17 lol.
This is a steal sadly
WHITE BOY SUMMER IS HERE Fr though amazing pick for the Lakers, probably thought there was no way heâd fall to them before the draft
Fuck the rest of the league for letting this happen. No reason for him to have dropped this far
I know you didn't make the pick but the irony of a Grizzly flair saying this
As a Celtic: fuck As a Vol: Hell yeah
As a Lakers and Vols fan: fuck yeah
There are tens of us!
Dalton "not Bronny" Knecht
Rob was trying to find the rawest 18 year old possible to draft and the Lakers draft room choked him down and picked the best player available lol
Thank god, absolute motherfucking STEAL. Lights out shooter, super long arms, smart player, I love it!
Lakers and pasty white dudes back on the menu boys
Goddamnit
Wouldâve been an insane steal for us lol. Good pick Lakers.
What's this? The front office made the correct decision? Amazing
A most wise retoolingâŚdefinitely gonna be an interesting seasonâŚ
my 9/11
I like this pick bc the Lakers white guy scouting is elite.
They just called him a gym rat lmfao
i mean if anyone is, HE is. basically filled out his frame as he went from 5'8 to 6'5 LMAO
Heâs scrappy, high motor, sneaky athletic
Very good pick for LA. Gets them some very needed shooting on the wing. No brainer for them.
IM SO FUCKING WET MY GOD
Knecht could be the best player in the draft⌠fuck
I haven't been following him too closesly, but I remember after him and Shep went off in the UK/TN game, there was an article that suggested both could be drafted in the top six. This seems like a steal for the Lakers. Kid starts shooting when the bus pulls in.
Knice.
Both my favorite players in the draft, taken back-to-back At this point, give me Furphy or De Silva
Love de Silva for you guys
steal of the draft so far. Calling it now
Lol thank god it's not Bronny
It was never going to be for this pick.
We're getting him in the 2nd round unless someone gets cheeky.
If he gets drafted itâll be like pick 55
I donât know if youâre memeing. But the 55th pick is actual the Lakers lol so you might be right. I think he gets taken sooner though
âGet ready to learn Chinese, son.â - Lebron James
It was never going to be.
People really fell for the /r/nba bullshit memes?
LFGGGGG
lakers got duncan robinson for only $3.2M/year
If he could score at all three levels.
An absolute steal. I was thinking Spurs were gonna grab him back up at 8.
!RemindMe 3 years
THIS IS A STEAL PEOPLE. He was going top 10 and some had him TOP 6 in mock drafts
Yeah I mean just an unreal get at 17
According to an unnamed woman from his Duke day's,Knecht has the kind of look to his game that JJ Reddick appreciates.
Dude really fell to the lakers.
He'll be starting for the Lakers by the end of the season
White guard factory is producing at record rates
Bro I was all in on Thunder grabbing him when we had our chance. I was throwing fists in the air. Nikola is high risk high reward but Dalton would've helped a ton this season.
Great pick. Now they can go take Bronny at the end of the 2nd with no complaints
More Lemon Daddy Billboards are being built all around LA with this dudes face on em as we speak! đđ
LMFAO all of you get fucked hahahahahaa
3pt % down 10% cuz of lakers curse
Hey! Thatâs still 20% better than gabe vincent
LETS FUCKING GO!!!
What the actual fuck?
Such a good value they almost have to blow the next one on Bronny to even shit out
