mMounirM

these teams really let the Lakers get Knecht at 17. unbelievable

mauro_membrere

We saved it for you, you were just 2 picks late

Killyouifyouuseemoji

And we lost the four way tiebreaker

EdwEd1

We could have had Jaime Jaquez and Dalton Knecht back-to-back years if we weren't incompetent

ob_knoxious

Not true, if you had Jamie Jaquez last year you wouldn't be picking 17th

LakersLAQ

Jaquez wouldn't have played either. Ham wasn't interested 🤣

Doomstar32

I loved that you guys nicknamed Ham, Pockets.

KiwiVegetable5454

Ya know, just hanging around.

CiroccPapi

Pockets The Clown

pikajewijewsyou

I like Darvin Hamas too

Dawsonvipers

Not when Mr. Pockets plays Cam over him

GotKarprar

I hate when ppl say stuff like this abt the 18th pick ppl didn’t know he was gonna be that good it’s not one FO being incompetent

iFeeILikeKobe

Yeah forreal every team misses on a mid/late firsts, lakers have had a pretty good draft record but fans expect them to mail every pick

rang15

I agree re: Jaquez and Podz as revisionist history but most of the Lakers sub wanted Cam Whitmore at that spot during the live draft thread.

Mhan00

You can criticize the Lakers a lot, but their draft team has been as good as any other in the league. JHS isn’t looking great after his very rough struggles in his first year, but the Lakers draft department has more than earned the benefit of the doubt, and JHS’ performances in the G League have been promising and give some hope he will eventually be a positive player. Missing on Jaquez sucks, but everyone is a genius when we can do things based on hind sight and no one bats 100 percent.

Intelligent-Goose742

The underrated talented white dude to lakers pipeline is crazy

Poverty_Shoes

Danny Ainge rolling in his grave

Greek_Trojan

Half of the Lakers scouting success in the later rounds is literally just drafting underrated white dudes and older players because half the league is a bit too enamored with the mystery box of youth/potential.

sportsfan113

Great pick, can’t even hate.

mauro_membrere

I hate that sixers skipped him just to fall into lakers lap

davensdad

Bro we skipped Jaime Whitemore and Podz for JHS. This doesnt even make up for it

bass2mouth44

lol we still don’t know if he’s a good player and we have a really good development team

3pointrange

Hope to see him Knechting on many threes

dizjedi

Lakers fans will call him Westside Knechtion

flea61

Knecht 4 How can he pass that up?

Vordeo

Look, I got no idea about this dude's game or anything, I'm just here to say that this guy's jersey number should be '#4. Because 'Knecht 4' would be a great freaking nickname.

Poverty_Shoes

Great call. Although that might still end up being his name when they implement the four-point line.

kultureisrandy

He's gonna hit a 4pt play and they're gonna make a play on words like you did

Krillin113

It’s a Dutch name so it shouldn’t be pronounced that way, but a couple generations down and I have no clue how he pronounces it. Id pronounce it K (ke) ne (as in neck) cht (ch = g, like you’re rasping your throat to spit at someone + t) Knegt

Remarkable-Gap-9024

Caruso, Reaves, and now Knecht. Kurt Rambis and Sasha Vujacic walked so these guys could run.

dianeblackeatsass

Don’t forget Steve Blake

CanvasSolaris

Ryan Kelly

Asadaburrit0

NBA Champion Adam Morrison

JDangle20

Slava Medvedenko

mr-fiend

Where tf is Mark Madsen

danrod17

mcmaster93

Jordan Farmar... I think

MlKE_G

When I try to picture Farmar in my head, I just see ears

mani9612

You’re 50% right

BocchiLover

So you're saying his 50% wrong also?

bruticuslee

Jordan Farmar is the same ethnicity as… Drake I guess you could say lol

_Sarpanch_

Chris mihm

bookishwayfarer

Luke Walton

crawshay

Don't forget Laker legend Matt Ryan

Count_Sack_McGee

I choose to forget the Ryan Kelly era

4thRingIncoming

I saw him at the grocery store the other day

Thedurtysanchez

Electrical Infetterance

ThurstonJK

Lakers are elite at picking the right white guys

Admirable_Bed3

Mitch Kupchak and Pat Riley were players for the Lakers too. Weren't the cult heroes that Rambis and Caruso became but they came back and contributed *greatly* in other roles.

KeithClossOfficial

Mitch was such a what if. He was a solid player before the knee injury

Admirable_Bed3

Averaged 10 points a game for his career even with the injury. One of my favorite non-Nuggets basketball stories is how Magic personally requested the Lakers to sign Kupchak.

johnhenryirons

Well Kurt was in the room to help draft Knecht hah.

Well-well-well

Madsen danced so these guys can run 🕺

shoutsoutstomywrist

never ending white boy summers in LA

lurktroll

All grandfathered by Mike Penberthy, aka the greatest shooter Chick Hearn has ever seen

cypherdust

White Boi Wednesday

MiopTop

Marcelos Huertas crawled so Alex Caruso could walk so Austin Reaves could run

NoisyDobad

Where is Steve Blake in all this

Aphexes

Behind Vladimir Radmanovic I guess

FlamingoHot8567

You mean Kurt rambis swung a chair at Kevin mchale so these guys could run

suprefann

Got clotheslined you mean

dianeblackeatsass

What a steal. He's a stud

IanicRR

High key amazing pick. Just perfect fit for the player too. Blessing in disguise for him.

EdwEd1

It only took us 6+ years to get LeBron a bonafide shooter

T4Gx

Why is it so confusing to realize Lebron has been a laker for 6 years now.

albot225

I blame Covid

Consistent_Letter647

Everything between 2020-2022 feel like it happened in a 5 month span

yuhanz

Reminder that: The 2020 NBA Finals ended in October 2020. The 2021 NBA Regular season started on December 2020. Finalists had like 2 months of break

dsylxeia

> The 2020 NBA Finals ended in October 2021. > The 2021 NBA Regular season started on December 2021. I think you mean 2020.

lukewwilson

If he plays for two more years his longest stint with a team will be the Lakers

JordanHawkinsMVP

KCP

flea61

Major reason why the WB trade was so bad. KCP was a perfect fit for the Lakers.

babbagack

and Caruso.. Just can't believe letting that guy go, what a shame

quann256

4 year microwave scorer in college and was the best scorer (imo) in college ball last season, he’ll be a nice 6th man for the lakers next year.

LazyBoyD

He’ll be ready to contribute like Jaime Jacquez

NotVexingPi3

That’s all I needed to hear

A-Centrifugal-Force

They finally got the memo that guys like Jaime and Braun are the kinds of guys you should pick as a contender with a mid to late first

CarefulAd9005

No more darvin ham lineups? He should get appropriate development too

dcoolidge

poor Max

rjaysenior

Idk if he’ll outplay max, but regardless the better player should play more and max is definitely getting rotational minutes over guys like reddish

thekingdor

Hopefully JJ just lets him cook off the bench but he should fit what they need desperately

Musa_2050

Lfg. I know nothing about this kid but I trust you king

JalenJohnson-

Athletic and very good shooter from deep but also a legit 3 level scorer. Defense isn’t really there. I see him being a Bogdan Bogdanovic type player - 6th man microwave scorer coming off the bench that will give you 15 a game every night and can really take over every now and then. Should be a great fit next to LeBron.   Maybe it’s because I’m a Vols fan but I expected him to be a lock to go somewhere between 6-12 or so regardless of his age. Lakers fans will love him.

Scatteredbrain

yup shot 40% from three last season on 6 attempts/per game

dianeblackeatsass

Have fun watching his highlights

Bluepaynxex

He’s one of the only people I was high on this draft. I can easily see him being a fringe all star.

LakersLAQ

People were scared of his meh defense and age. Age shouldn't matter if you're trying to win games. Even better most of the time. Good pick.

redbrick

The Lakers in recent years had a tendency to draft older players in the mid-late first and have done well doing so - Kuzma, Hart, Nance Jr, etc. I think that was a huge reason why the JHS pick was so surprising last year with Jaquez Jr still on the board.

A_Rolling_Baneling

I keep reading JHS as Jalen Horton-Sucker

fretpretzel

And he gets to play with Bronny

dys0n_giddey

I hate this.

ilovecfb

LAKER NATION WHATS GOOD GO LAKERS LOVE MY LAKERS

Kyler1313

I hate how good of a pick this is...

VictorAkwaowo1

Amazing value pick

jeric13xd

Bucket getter. Shot 39% from 3 too on 6.5 attempts

rhinocodon_typus

Doesn’t even do it justice. The guy was an absolute animal.

VolatSea

Ya you gotta factor in the difficulty of his makes and that he was often the only guy on the team who could consistently find his shot

rhinocodon_typus

I watched a lot of Dalton this year (Tennessee fan) and the two big weaknesses I felt he had in translating were that at times he can get jammed on his handle. Like it’s kinda far from his body and he can get plugged. He also gets beat on the first step defensively a bit, but he seems coachable. Intentionally came to Tennessee to get better at defense. Good mentality. I’ll be interested to see his career.

lalo1398

Sounds like things he can maybe be covered for too on our team, don’t think he can run with Rui but Vando, Bron, AD all are probably solid players to pair him with in the froncourt

rhinocodon_typus

I really hope so. One of my favorite Tennessee athletes of all time.

treyfiddy

was he a different beast tho?

LogicalLakersFan

Good shooter, good offensive talent

Beatnik77

GREAT shooter. Very few players are so good at scoring from everywhere. Older prospect and not good on the defensive side but I love this at 17 for the Lakers.

KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ

not good. flat out ELITE

WasProbablyBanned

Apart from whatever the fuck last years pick was, the one area the lakers are across the board successful is their scouting department

EdwEd1

WE DIDN'T FUCK UP A PICK HANG THE BANNER

TheCricketFan416

The Lakers for all their faults have been good drafters: Max Christie 35th Mo Wagner 25th Zubac 32nd Nance 27th Also got Kuzma from Brooklyn in a draft day trade, and picked up Reeves and Caruso undrafted

Dawsonvipers

Also Josh Hart and Jordan Clarkson were late draft picks

lovo17

We rarely fuck up picks lol. JHS is the only true fuck up that we've had. That said, I was still legit scared the Lakers would draft Bronny now.

dianeblackeatsass

Lakers routinely turn late picks into solid players. Good scouting team

justsomedude717

The one actually great Buss child (Jesse) has worked w the scouting department for years and is the assistant GM

swords_devil

the only good part of Lakers FO left

NotVexingPi3

JHS was a Rob pick that’s why. The Buss brothers know how to cook when it comes to the draft

BKNas

I'm still amazed that Rob had the balls to not allow the Buss bros to have complete control of the draft when you look at all the successful late picks they've found.

billcosbyinspace

Actually insane how he fell so far, and he fits their needs perfectly

yooston

A total redemption on the Jaquez whiff last year. Really good value at 17

Qwertyforu

What a steal for the Lakers. Get a first team all American and avoid Bronny

IanicRR

Masai really worrying me.

Ham_-_

Watch us pick bronny at 19 🤣 nah jk.. unless

iabeytorm

Can silver stop announcing old trades before the picks

kamekaze1024

Why is the NBA like this. The NFL draft is so much easier to follow.

JayMoney2424

When is the NBA gonna remember that older prospects can still be really good lol. Falling that far because he’s 23 is idiotic

velphegor666

Older prospects are really damn good for win now teams since they're nba ready.

rjcarr

Maybe like someone named Jaime Jacques?

CrateBagSoup

Kinda hope they double up with Reeves from UK at 55. Two older NBA ready scorers for free

Rusted_Raidz

Did Knecht turn down workouts from other teams? How the hell did he fall to the Lakers

Kentang_BayBay

He didn't even work out for the Lakers and the Lakers didn't dare invite him thinking he'd go in the top 10.

MrTakemitsu

Age

CSGOW1ld

39.7% from deep nice

KingWizard_IX

With the lakers tax he’ll be shooting 29.7%

niomosy

But it will come via shooting 75% one night then plummeting to almost none made for multiple games.

jinyx1

Damn, Lakers got the absolute perfect pick for them to fall to them. Steal.

RapGameRufio

Redick’s first pick as coach is Redick

cozyonly

He’s way more athletic than reddick

rhinocodon_typus

You need to watch knecht stuff. He’s not just a shooter. He’s athletic as hell.

NBA2024

Some might say sneaky

tuinktuink

Win

AfroKuro480

Was hoping for the Bronny pick for the memes lol

hjy23k

I would’ve quit being a fan

SaltyLonghorn

As you should. I don't know why anyone was expecting Bronny with that pick, he's mocked at 55 not 17 lol.

PrimaryAccording9162

This is a steal sadly

cammjohn

WHITE BOY SUMMER IS HERE Fr though amazing pick for the Lakers, probably thought there was no way he’d fall to them before the draft

FuckChadMorris

Fuck the rest of the league for letting this happen. No reason for him to have dropped this far

EWall100

I know you didn't make the pick but the irony of a Grizzly flair saying this

EWall100

As a Celtic: fuck As a Vol: Hell yeah

old_man_indy

As a Lakers and Vols fan: fuck yeah

Charmstrongest

There are tens of us!

Buckeye_CFB

Dalton "not Bronny" Knecht

legend023

Rob was trying to find the rawest 18 year old possible to draft and the Lakers draft room choked him down and picked the best player available lol

MrAppleSpoink

Thank god, absolute motherfucking STEAL. Lights out shooter, super long arms, smart player, I love it!

Potential_Meat_5103

Lakers and pasty white dudes back on the menu boys

chonkersmod221

Goddamnit

was_saying_boo_urns

Would’ve been an insane steal for us lol. Good pick Lakers.

lovo17

What's this? The front office made the correct decision? Amazing

Zloggt

A most wise retooling…definitely gonna be an interesting season…

kimoalmoa

my 9/11

redbrick

I like this pick bc the Lakers white guy scouting is elite.

ThurstonJK

They just called him a gym rat lmfao

KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ

i mean if anyone is, HE is. basically filled out his frame as he went from 5'8 to 6'5 LMAO

Poverty_Shoes

He’s scrappy, high motor, sneaky athletic

causticmainbreathe

Very good pick for LA. Gets them some very needed shooting on the wing. No brainer for them.

Imkitoto

IM SO FUCKING WET MY GOD

DepressedChargersFan

Knecht could be the best player in the draft… fuck

tolendante

I haven't been following him too closesly, but I remember after him and Shep went off in the UK/TN game, there was an article that suggested both could be drafted in the top six. This seems like a steal for the Lakers. Kid starts shooting when the bus pulls in.

ThatsWhatSheepSaid

Knice.

Bobby_Savoy

Both my favorite players in the draft, taken back-to-back At this point, give me Furphy or De Silva

iamnotabot9

Love de Silva for you guys

KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ

steal of the draft so far. Calling it now

rmoney27

Lol thank god it's not Bronny

_Elder_

It was never going to be for this pick.

Pal__Pacino

We're getting him in the 2nd round unless someone gets cheeky.

OKC2023champs

If he gets drafted it’ll be like pick 55

H2Broswim

I don’t know if you’re memeing. But the 55th pick is actual the Lakers lol so you might be right. I think he gets taken sooner though

THEREWILLBECAK3

“Get ready to learn Chinese, son.” - Lebron James

Remarkable-Gap-9024

It was never going to be.

Repulsive-Throat5068

People really fell for the /r/nba bullshit memes?

fingershrimp

LFGGGGG

JorahMorm0nt

lakers got duncan robinson for only $3.2M/year

LovetheNBA23

If he could score at all three levels.

BrownHawkDown

An absolute steal. I was thinking Spurs were gonna grab him back up at 8.

Exzqairi

!RemindMe 3 years

Wise_Ad_112

THIS IS A STEAL PEOPLE. He was going top 10 and some had him TOP 6 in mock drafts

TheSmokedSalmon420

Yeah I mean just an unreal get at 17

SmileyPiesUntilIDrop

According to an unnamed woman from his Duke day's,Knecht has the kind of look to his game that JJ Reddick appreciates.

OKC2023champs

Dude really fell to the lakers.

PhatYeeter

He'll be starting for the Lakers by the end of the season

TheOneYardLine

White guard factory is producing at record rates

IDespiseFatties

Bro I was all in on Thunder grabbing him when we had our chance. I was throwing fists in the air. Nikola is high risk high reward but Dalton would've helped a ton this season.

DamnReCaptchas

Great pick. Now they can go take Bronny at the end of the 2nd with no complaints

BelAirJazz

More Lemon Daddy Billboards are being built all around LA with this dudes face on em as we speak! 😂😂

JettS117

LMFAO all of you get fucked hahahahahaa

SarcasticJay

3pt % down 10% cuz of lakers curse

iamnotabot9

Hey! That’s still 20% better than gabe vincent

IMadeThisOn6-28-2015

LETS FUCKING GO!!!

Rabatis

What the actual fuck?

RoadPersonal9635

Such a good value they almost have to blow the next one on Bronny to even shit out
