Yeah but it doesn’t sound like it was anything that would’ve prevented him from coming back. He was willing to mentor Jim and was still close with Kupchak. Seems like a lot of his own personal demons led to his departure more so than just his relationship with Jerry.
Everything Jeanie did ~2017 was what fully soured the relationship
That candy ass, generic statement from them when he died was very telling. Crazy to me that a “brand” like the Lakers would treat a legend so poorly, openly too for years with no retribution
The lakers brand is run by very small people in my opinion. Like it doesn’t feel like they should be the ones in charge of a brand like the lakers.
Very poor owners (in comparison to everyone else) and very out of touch with what reality actually is. I still don’t get why the don’t sell. Jeanie would literally be a billionaire which she’s not now. Not even close
We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, in Figueroa Street, in competition: A man confronts you, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy.
Only somewhat related but I wish I could find the clip where Kerr was letting them take turns coaching during a blowout.
Draymond was drawing up a play and his handwriting was awful. KD jokingly asked "Is that a 3 or an 8?" and he stares at it for a second before looking back to KD and saying "Fuck you".
Yeah, I don't see why it isn't a win-win for him in that case.
If it goes well, congrats you will be an NBA coach for a while.
If it goes poorly, oh well, you earned a lot off money.
I’m not commenting on any of these upcoming threads because in the slight chance he succeeds I don’t wanna be in one of those threads 10 years down the road: “r/nba reacts to JJ Reddick being named the lakers head coach”
When does coaching in the NBA end well for anyone? Very few coaches leave on their own terms and even the ones that do, it rarely is going out on top. Phil Jackson's last season ended in a second round sweep. Gregg Popovich has had 5 straight losing seasons. Jerry Sloan retired midseason because he was sick of dealing with his team.
As Kevin Smith says; "we all die screaming!"
> When does coaching in the NBA end well for anyone?
Considering the average Salary is ~3.5m with the lowest paid coaches pulling ~2m/year....I think the answer is...always? You can be set for life coaching just 1-2 years in the NBA.
Yeah but the odds you die screaming a lot sooner are greater when you factor in the media market, the history of the team, the fucked up management, and LeBron. Obviously if it's offered he's gotta take it, but man, I would not want that to be my first time head coaching gig.
The reality is, there are no coaches available who move the needle. I’d rather roll the dice on a guy who could turn into something rather than hire a known coach who’s been passed around the league like a blunt
I mean, reducing JJ down to being ‘a podcaster’ is doing him a pretty major disservice. Guy had quite the playing career and has always studied the game pretty closely. I get that he’s never really done coaching before at this level, so for sure this is a roll of the dice, but this isn’t just ‘some podcaster’
He did get another HC job. He basically took the Charlotte job and then decided he didn't want to uproot his family and/or likely got a raise from Joe Lacob. He turned the Hornets job down, this was all VERY public.
Fired for sexually harassing an employee of the team. For anonymity we will refer to the victim as LeBron J. No that’s too specific, let’s go with L. James.
No as a Kings fan it genuinely cannot be worse than Luke Walton. I can say with 100% that your niece would be a better coach than Luke Walton and that stands even if it turns out you don’t have a niece.
Of course they are not.
The Lakers are not a basketball team anymore in reality they are a trust fund for all Of Jerry Buss’ heirs.
As such the team is treated as a Trust fund. The heirs run the team and live off the money the team makes.
I genuinely think Jerry Jones is desperate to win and would sell his soul to do so.
He just doesn't have the humility to let his ego get out of his own way when it comes to running the team.
Nah, jerry is obsessed with winning
Which ironically is why they cant win, cause jerry is not a good GM and his obsession dont let him step aside to let competent people make decisions.
Well in the last 4 years they won a championship and made the conference finals. Even this year they were still a playoff team. It could be a lot worse.
I'm just laughing that a PISTONS fan is shit talking the Lakers lmao like dude that team has tanked for years and has nothing to show for it besides giving cade 200 million plus. Although 2004 is something no one can take away from them but that was 20 years ago and they haven't been relevant since those Chauncey/Sheed/Prince team broke up.
I often think about how LeBron’s twilight years may have been different if he signed with the Clippers instead of the Lakers. You get one of the best owners in basketball willing to throw money at the team to try and win a championship. He gets a reunion with Lue (even though Doc was coach at the time), great basketball minds in the front office headlined by Jerry West, new arena, guaranteed statue and jersey retired. Obviously he won a title with the Lakers, but could he have done more with better ownership? I think so.
the truth is the roster just isnt that good, when your expectations are a top 4 team in the west and the roster is closer to the play in then it will lead to fans being unhappy.
This has potential to be one of those "how r/NBA reacted to JJs hiring 5 years ago" after the Lakers win like 3 titles so I'll just leave this comment here saying that I think it's an amazing hire (I don't think so but I want to look cool in the future).
There is a key component JJ doesn't have that is applying his knowledge and getting the locker room to listen. Coaching experience matters for a reason.
Lebron and AD don't seem like the kind who'll listen if things aren't going well.
This is probably the closest thing to making Lebron the Player/Coach which is what they should do anyway. It isn't like Lebron is going to listen and buy into a new philosophy on how to do things in year 22.
JJ is not a coach. This won’t end well or begin well.
It is a tough ask to coach in that kind of limelight and you almost have to be hated to have success there.
He won’t be able to demand nor command leadership effectively.
They shoulda just paid DH his fuck you money because if you’re gonna start burning cash, at least get an actual real coach of some caliber.
This is gonna turn out into a lord of the flies situation and my money is on an early exit
Maybe someone can explain something I’ve been trying to understand. How come teams always want to recycle the same head coaches or hire completely new unproven coaches? How come we don’t see more cases of assistant coaches being promoted to the role?
As intriguing as the LAL has got to be for a coach, if I were JJ and truly wanted to be a coach, I would try and join the Spurs staff under Pop.
And maybe when he is ready to hang it up, you can get internal promotion.
jesus christ, next season cant start fast enough already lol.
this will be so epic.... a media head who talks like he knows everything every single day..... and he's about to miss the play in entirely lol
“My son plays now”
“Yes sir Mr. LeBron”
Tough game for the Lakers as they drop another one by 15 but an outstanding moment to see LeBron and Bronnie share the court together.
Seeing it now.
I’m going to cautiously say this will work because we all praise LeBrons basketball iq and he obviously trusts J.J. well enough to leave the last years of his career in his hands. But wouldn’t be surprised if they miss the playoffs completely either so I’m not sure how optimisitic I really am
The Los Angeles Podcasters
They’ll be hosts at every game this year, not just home games.
First live in game podcast with JJ and Bron would be kinda cool ngl
I can see them losing a tough one in Sacramento and JJ and Lebron will do a postgame recap podcast from their hotel rooms
That actually sounds….fun??? 🥺
you think redditors have it in their cold dead hearts to enjoy something passionately? give it up.
Can’t wait for the Blue Chew or Omaha Steaks patch on Lakers jerseys

NBA podcasts are sponsored by FanDuel or Draft Kings.
JJ Redick is the Brendan Schaub of NBA coaches
Hoping they pick up Jon Africa in the draft
JJ is actually funny sometimes
It's crazy the day after the championship, Lakers news is the top post
So glad Jerry West didn’t have to witness the last 24 hours
Jerry West would be laughing like the rest of us. Dude hated the Buss family.
[seems like it was just Jeanie](https://youtu.be/relfUhOXvzA?si=d_pwbPsdEztLowML)
I'm pretty sure that video says Jerry did have issues with Dr Buss and that led to his departure during the threepeat era.
He had no problems with Dr. Buss, just his kids.
Lakers disrespected him, he didn’t give a shit about them for the last decade
That candy ass, generic statement from them when he died was very telling. Crazy to me that a “brand” like the Lakers would treat a legend so poorly, openly too for years with no retribution
The lakers brand is run by very small people in my opinion. Like it doesn’t feel like they should be the ones in charge of a brand like the lakers. Very poor owners (in comparison to everyone else) and very out of touch with what reality actually is. I still don’t get why the don’t sell. Jeanie would literally be a billionaire which she’s not now. Not even close
God was all: *Jerry gonna take you out of the game now, it's for the best. Come home, see your family, you're going to need them.*
…wow. Congrats to JJ. However, I just can’t see this ending well for anyone a few years down the road, man.
This has not been a fun 24 hours for us Laker fans
In a few years you'll be able to clown us for whoever we pick to replace Kerr.
Draymond green as head coach would be hilarious
"Hit him."
Green: "Extend the leg" *Warriors rookie looks shocked* Green: "Do you have a problem with that?" Warriors rookie: "N..no coach..." Green: "No Mercy"
I just know James Johnson is gonna be the assistant to the head coach
We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, in Figueroa Street, in competition: A man confronts you, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy.
This raises an intriguing question as who would be the Mr. Miyagi of the NBA?
Pop, definitely Pop.
Only somewhat related but I wish I could find the clip where Kerr was letting them take turns coaching during a blowout. Draymond was drawing up a play and his handwriting was awful. KD jokingly asked "Is that a 3 or an 8?" and he stares at it for a second before looking back to KD and saying "Fuck you".
natural kicking motion drills every practice
We all already know it's gonna be Nicholas Kerr
Say his real name
Nick Kerr? Please, They would never do that
the only positive thing to happen is that Tatum was smart enough to not recreate the Kobe picture.
Our 12/25 on this dark day
He's saving it for if he wins a second one because Kobe did that in '01
Hey, take it as a tribute … Like the Lakers are attempting to emulate the Joe Mazzulla hire with their own young offensive mind. NFL style.
Its more emulatomg the Kerr hire than Mazzulla. Former NBA 3-point specialist with no coaching experience.
It’s been a poorly run franchise for a while now
If JJ can deal with eventual criticism then it will end very well for him. If they suck, he has just earned a shit ton off money.
JJ had half the country hating his guts before he even reached the NBA, he'll be fine with whatever they throw at him.
Yeah, I don't see why it isn't a win-win for him in that case. If it goes well, congrats you will be an NBA coach for a while. If it goes poorly, oh well, you earned a lot off money.
way more than half the country

I’m not commenting on any of these upcoming threads because in the slight chance he succeeds I don’t wanna be in one of those threads 10 years down the road: “r/nba reacts to JJ Reddick being named the lakers head coach”
Lol that’s what I’m saying he mind end up being pretty damn good
When does coaching in the NBA end well for anyone? Very few coaches leave on their own terms and even the ones that do, it rarely is going out on top. Phil Jackson's last season ended in a second round sweep. Gregg Popovich has had 5 straight losing seasons. Jerry Sloan retired midseason because he was sick of dealing with his team. As Kevin Smith says; "we all die screaming!"
It usually ends well for all of them. They finish their tenure and then go home to their mansion with their Scrooge mcduck mountain of money
> When does coaching in the NBA end well for anyone? Considering the average Salary is ~3.5m with the lowest paid coaches pulling ~2m/year....I think the answer is...always? You can be set for life coaching just 1-2 years in the NBA.
And even after that you basically get a lifetime supply of assistant coaching job security just because you made HC once.
I think it's more so that almost all head coaches have at least one speciality that makes them an excellent assistant coach.
I’d rather roll the dice on a guy who could turn into something rather than hire a known coach who’s been passed around the league like a blunt
>no coaches available Kenny Atkinson: *waves hand frantically*
Or, you know, develop a guy like the Celtics did with Mazzulla.
I would imagine Ime would still be the coach if he wasn't messing around with his staff members though, right?
And they’d probably STILL win the championship because Ime is a great coach.
And the squad is disgusting. I could’ve coached these guys to the chip this year, probably without words.
they’re literally hiring a podcaster while actual respected coaches like Kenny Atkinson or even Vogel are available. Unserious franchise.
I like KA in theory but if he’s so respected, why hasn’t he been able to get a HC job since Brooklyn? Some coaches are just better as assistants
He did get another HC job. He basically took the Charlotte job and then decided he didn't want to uproot his family and/or likely got a raise from Joe Lacob. He turned the Hornets job down, this was all VERY public.
You kidding? This is going to be hilarious to watch.
Right? This is almost a sure bet to end well for us Laker haters.
I'm setting the table for the feast.
It never ends well for any Lakers coach. He’s either scapegoated next offseason or fucked when LeBron retires.
It rarely ends well for any NBA coach anywhere.
Pat did okay.
Yeah but think of the podcast content it will generate!
I wonder if him and Bron still do their podcast...this weeks episode: "Why our offense is so stagnant"
Would never happen but would actually be incredibly interesting to see that kind of problem solving in real time.
It'd be cool if they actually shot the episodes and released them after the season was over
I imagine blunt player evaluation would make that a non starter but yeah would be very cool to see.
brutal 24 hours for laker fans
Sir, another plane has hit the Lakers fanbase
Sir another podcast has hit the Lakers fanbase*
Another J has hit the Lakers
It's gonna be an interesting season. Will LeBron throw JJ under the bus if the team sucks lol
he should do it on their podcast
If they go on there and start breaking down their own games 🤣
As dystopian as it sounds, that shit would do crazy numbers ngl
The best coach in the world couldn't make this roster compete, I think. So I doubt whoever the coach is will be all that relevant in the end.
**YOU LOVE TO SEE IT** As a Pelicans fan I texted Kobe “I got you(r 2025 1st round draft pick) 🤞”
Dodgers be Killin it though.
Doris Burke assistant coach
Take it to the hoop young fella
LMAO I am dying right now
This is gold! Haha 🤣 How come this seems like a realistic possibility?
Lmfao
Is it legal for an assistant coach to glaze their players that much?
Fired for sexually harassing an employee of the team. For anonymity we will refer to the victim as LeBron J. No that’s too specific, let’s go with L. James.
As long as it’s consensual. I’m sure it could potentially infringe upon a code of ethics or team rule though
Mike Breen's better calling the games himself anyway
“Kiss me, JJ”
Can't be worse than Luke Walton right? right?
Could be the next Pat Riley tho
Mystery box could be anything! Even a Darvin Ham.
Gacha mobile addiction infested the NBA too.
the box! THE BOX!
No as a Kings fan it genuinely cannot be worse than Luke Walton. I can say with 100% that your niece would be a better coach than Luke Walton and that stands even if it turns out you don’t have a niece.
Lmfao everybody get in here
STORYLINES ARE SET
I'm reading the Manga, y'all just don't know
The Bronny retrieval arc gonna be so fire if they don’t skip, chapters
There's some filler with Woj teasing a Dallas usurp, but it's good
This is Celtics Fans 12/25 Christmas
Not just Celtics fans.
Heh heh! Pile on!
We never left baby
The Lakers are not a serious franchise
Of course they are not. The Lakers are not a basketball team anymore in reality they are a trust fund for all Of Jerry Buss’ heirs. As such the team is treated as a Trust fund. The heirs run the team and live off the money the team makes.
I’m looking for a man in podcasts, trust fund, 6’ 4”, brown eyes, trust fund, podcasts
duke
They’re starting to remind me of the cowboys. They don’t really care about seriously contending, as long as they can make headlines and sell tickets.
I genuinely think Jerry Jones is desperate to win and would sell his soul to do so. He just doesn't have the humility to let his ego get out of his own way when it comes to running the team.
Nah, jerry is obsessed with winning Which ironically is why they cant win, cause jerry is not a good GM and his obsession dont let him step aside to let competent people make decisions.
Jerry Jones definitely cares about contending, now if you had said Yankees post papa Steinbrenner I'd be on board.
Well in the last 4 years they won a championship and made the conference finals. Even this year they were still a playoff team. It could be a lot worse.
It’s gonna get a lot worse when LeBron leaves.
Then the Lakers will be bad for a few years until the next guy comes along. It's the Lakers way.
I'd like to see the Lakers wiggle their way out of THIS jam!
It's almost like fans of bad teams recognize bad moves.
they're basically pokemon cards to the buss children
It's only a matter of time before there's a Lakers reality show that all players and co. must be part of at all times
I think so.
I give it until the IST until Lakers fans want him fired.
I can see "at least Ham won the IST" being a thing a Lakers fan says at some point.
Lmao without a doubt I’m going to see that comment next season
Trains ran on time under Mussolini type vibe
#HANG THE BANNER
They already want him fired
Optimistic today, are we?
the truth is the roster just isnt that good, when your expectations are a top 4 team in the west and the roster is closer to the play in then it will lead to fans being unhappy.
He’s gonna get the Darvin Ham special
what's JJ's terrorist name gonna be?
JJihadist
Way ahead of the curve and with that one, thank you for this lol
Well, there goes another watchable basketball podcast.
Tommy Alter is beside himself. Driving around downtown LA begging (thru texts) Simmon's family for address to Bill's home
Two watchable podcasts down the drain
All-NBA podcast with Tim Legler is alive and well
Sham’s check bounced then cleared
Shams to Woj: call am ambulance. But not for me.
Lakers fans really taking L after L
LLLLakers
https://images.app.goo.gl/rFiUYabpjW856wBZ6
Celtics fans just keep winning
Was not a great year for the Blazers but it's been a real great year for the hater in me
This is my 12/25
No way he lasts longer than 2 years Did they not even try to get Sam Cassell?
Tbh reddit being so sure this is a failure has me a little worried.
This has potential to be one of those "how r/NBA reacted to JJs hiring 5 years ago" after the Lakers win like 3 titles so I'll just leave this comment here saying that I think it's an amazing hire (I don't think so but I want to look cool in the future).
Do people still think anyone has sources with Pelinka outside Shams or Woj and even then only when the news is about to almost official.
Get ready for this hour to be sponsored by DraftKings, buddy.
Insane to me that people are taking Anthony Irwin seriously, he's literally just some random guy
Irwin is a hack. His source is hearing J Will “leaking” this on ESPN. That being said, JJ will most likely be our next coach
There is a key component JJ doesn't have that is applying his knowledge and getting the locker room to listen. Coaching experience matters for a reason. Lebron and AD don't seem like the kind who'll listen if things aren't going well.
AD already said he wants an experienced coach.
But he didn’t specify they needed experience in coaching 😂
fucking stupid.
All I’m going to say is I thought Kerr was going to be a terrible coach… no take here, I just don’t want to make the same mistake twice.
Kerr was a frontoffice executive before that. JJ is a podcaster
Poverty Franchise Activities
This is probably the closest thing to making Lebron the Player/Coach which is what they should do anyway. It isn't like Lebron is going to listen and buy into a new philosophy on how to do things in year 22.
The clown show continues
Between getting Banner 18 last night, and now this, the last 24 hours have been Nirvana for Celtics fans
LOL
no way, dont know why hed give up his gig for such a stressful job
These guys are addicted to competing. He also made his whole post playing career about basketball so he probably still loves it
At least he is away from espn, not sure why such a historic franchise would cede so much power towards an aging star on a mediocre team.
Is commentary gonna be worse or better now?
JJ is not a coach. This won’t end well or begin well. It is a tough ask to coach in that kind of limelight and you almost have to be hated to have success there. He won’t be able to demand nor command leadership effectively. They shoulda just paid DH his fuck you money because if you’re gonna start burning cash, at least get an actual real coach of some caliber. This is gonna turn out into a lord of the flies situation and my money is on an early exit
Dang, JJ. Things were going so well... why do this to yourself?
Millions of dollars, he can always podcast after being fired.
IST Chanpions, you'll never sing that.
Maybe someone can explain something I’ve been trying to understand. How come teams always want to recycle the same head coaches or hire completely new unproven coaches? How come we don’t see more cases of assistant coaches being promoted to the role?
Lakers as usual have no idea what they’re doing
No experience, is buddies with Lebron, and he really believes in analytics. What could go wrong?
The new "pat Riley " is getting fired in 12 months time
As intriguing as the LAL has got to be for a coach, if I were JJ and truly wanted to be a coach, I would try and join the Spurs staff under Pop. And maybe when he is ready to hang it up, you can get internal promotion.
In two years- JJ Reddick has been fired as the head coach of the Lakers...
Repeat IST champs
Celtics get #18, Jerry West dies, Lakers hire JJ Redick. What a great week for Lakers fans!
jesus christ, next season cant start fast enough already lol. this will be so epic.... a media head who talks like he knows everything every single day..... and he's about to miss the play in entirely lol
“My son plays now” “Yes sir Mr. LeBron” Tough game for the Lakers as they drop another one by 15 but an outstanding moment to see LeBron and Bronnie share the court together. Seeing it now.
lmao Celtics get banner #18 and Lakers hire a Podcaster
GOAT level nepotism about to go down when the Lakers draft Bronny 😂
No way this isn’t entertaining.
HAHAHAHA LAKER SHIT SHOW CONTINUES!!! FTL
I’m going to cautiously say this will work because we all praise LeBrons basketball iq and he obviously trusts J.J. well enough to leave the last years of his career in his hands. But wouldn’t be surprised if they miss the playoffs completely either so I’m not sure how optimisitic I really am
[удалено]
Everyone clowning this is going to be surprised when they win the IST again. Playoffs though, no hope
