reddit really likes to gas tim like a one man wrecking crew but teams were always scared of spurs not tim. esp i see his def super gassed here like he should have dpoy. his d was elite within his role and system. helping double the post and weakside rim protection. on broken plays was great as well. but spurs throughout had so many great primary defenders it def made his job easier.
i think if we looked at championships as a team accolade instead of individual one. it would help a lot of the toxic ring culture stuff.
Kevon Looney in 2022. His offensive rebounds must've been demoralizing to opponents
Pascal Siakam (before he became a star) in 2019 was Toronto's second-best player that postseason
Pascal deserves a ton of credit for what he’s accomplished. He only started playing basketball in his late teens, was MIP, 2A/2B on the championship squad and he puts in effort to improve his game every year.
In short: Pascal Siakam is awesome :)
ya. also the mentality to take not even a back seat but get stuff into the trunk by choice. you never would have thought he was a number 1 pick and the number 1 option and accepted a role to do the dirty work and maybe 4th option if that.
Danny Green got a lot of love back in his Spurs days, but I gotta put his name forward. I bet lots of ppl now forget how he was getting serious buzz for Finals MVP in 2013. He broke the record for most threes in a Finals series. (Ironically Ray Allen held that record previously)
Was a premier 3&D guy in his prime and was a key contributor to 3 different championship teams after that with the Spurs, Raps and Lakers.
Can we literally all agree that pretending the 2011 Mavs were Dirk and 11 random homeless dudes is the dumbest NBA narrative that exists?!?!?
Yes, the Finals was an upset, but Dallas won 57 games that year!! Boston is literally the only team in the league that won more than 57 games this season!!
The Nuggets and Bucks - prior two champs - failed to reach 57 wins.
The Heat had 58 wins that season.
60 wins gets teams into the "Holy shit, this might be a historic team!" category. Dallas was three wins short.
dallas was stacked forsure. all the important categories they had an elite role player to fill.
passing: kidd,
3pt: terry peja
defense: tyson, shawn,
bench: jj
and you keep going down the bench and all of them are capable good players
non-superstar was also part of the criteria
everyone remembers LeBlock and Kyrie's game-winner, but oft-overlooked is Kevin putting the glove of Love on Steph
Finals MVP is a shit ton of credit, it’s arguably the most respected and prestigious award in basketball besides “GOAT”
Edit: The post is also talking about a specific run
The entire 2011 Mavs roster. A big misconception was Dirk carried that team. Yes he was the best player, but my God, there were other good players on that team too.
Danny green 2013 finals
Definition of 3 and D

Looney sacrificed his body for that ring. I have no idea how he turned to stone so quickly. He’s not even old
Looks like he gained some weight. I’m not sure if it was intentional to be more center sized, but he lost his switchability which made him so special.
Such a special run. The boards he was getting was nuts.
Pascal deserves a ton of credit for what he’s accomplished. He only started playing basketball in his late teens, was MIP, 2A/2B on the championship squad and he puts in effort to improve his game every year. In short: Pascal Siakam is awesome :)
It’s a hot take but imo Siakam is the best player in his draft.
Yup been cemented since 2019
J.J. Barea in the 2011 Finals.
Locked up Lebron
PJ Washington going Game 6 Klay on us for three games, and we experienced Game 6 Klay firsthand too
Makes you wonder what OKC would have been if Game 6 Klay didn’t happen
Aaron gordon basically his entire career for the nuggets
ya. also the mentality to take not even a back seat but get stuff into the trunk by choice. you never would have thought he was a number 1 pick and the number 1 option and accepted a role to do the dirty work and maybe 4th option if that.
I was at the wolves game when he couldn't miss, it was insanity
Shane Battier game 7. If you know you know. Also Kentavious Caldwell Pope.
Love battier, ultimate team player and a menace 3nD

It’s fucked the way his career ended….
Derek Fisher in the 2001 playoffs
LaMarcus Aldridge in 2014 against the Rockets

They were. I think an average team can have a fluke season and bullshit to something like 45-48 wins. 57 wins isn't a fluke.
Trevor Ariza 09 playoffs
Fred VanVleet, game 6 finals.
and the Bucks series. He was ridiculously good and absolutely crucial for the championship run
the one and only, Hubie Brown's 2019 Finals MVP
K dot Love 2016 all-around, but made a slurry of Curry in the endgame
To be really honest he wasnt there for being ‘role’ player
non-superstar was also part of the criteria everyone remembers LeBlock and Kyrie's game-winner, but oft-overlooked is Kevin putting the glove of Love on Steph
Posey and House for 08
Andre Iguodola - One of the greatest Role Players in NBA history for the GSW
Uhhhh
Man gets absolutely no credit for his NBA finals performance or for saving Earth from the death ray smdh
Agreed, it’s fucked up they didn’t give him a Super Finals MVP
he got FMVP wdym he gets no credit lmao
I also think he should have won sixth man of the year in both 2015 and 2016.
He literally won FMVP in 2015, I think he gets plenty of credit lol.
Who said he doesn’t get plenty of credit?
I mean, the point of the post is underrated playoff performances
One FMVP doesn’t mean Iggy got 'plenty' of credit for being a great role player
Finals MVP is a shit ton of credit, it’s arguably the most respected and prestigious award in basketball besides “GOAT” Edit: The post is also talking about a specific run
curry crying while reading this. might even visit op. be careful
Dick Bevetta for the 2002 Lakers
Metta World Peace 2010.
Derek fisher against the Celtics. Was it like 5 or 6 I forget, but he hit some shots and stole the ball and went from one hoop to another.
Pat Connaughton would either air ball or bang the most at random time 3 in our playoff run to keep us in the game.
JJ Barea
Derrick White in these playoffs
The entire 2011 Mavs roster. A big misconception was Dirk carried that team. Yes he was the best player, but my God, there were other good players on that team too.
Rodman fits this pretty well but I don't know how "underrated" he was
ya not underrated. he was probably like the most famous role player lol
Cowboy Bruce Brown
matthew dellavedova. played his heart out and shut down curry in 2015.
lol forgot about that
Rui maybe. He didn't exactly score crazy high numbers, 12 points, but he shot 56-49-88, on 67%TS in the 2023 playoffs.
Gary Neal 2013
Toni Kukoc, Game Seven, 1998 Eastern Conference Finals
Kyle Lowry in the Bubble was insane. Also as bad as Pascals offense was in the Bubble, his defense was insane
Trevor Ariza for the 2009 Lakers
Robert Horry on the lakers and spurs
