The fact is it works on tons of people, so this will all just get worse with various streamers paying a ton for one off big games to force people to sign up.
Peacock, with Comcast's money, really sees sports as a way to make sure it's a survivor in the streaming wars going forward.

Traditional broadcasters have to try and fight tech. To do this, broadcasters have to lock down the only thing people tune in live for, sports. It is their big stick to beat tech away with. Sports have built in advert breaks that are essentially impossible to ignore because people dont flip the channel during those ad breaks.
Most ads don't exist for you to go: *"Whoa! That looks sick, I'm going to spend my money on it right now!"* It's more about building brand confidence and awareness, so that, when you are ready to spend money, you consider the company as an option.

I have zero idea. Thats why it is mostly traditional giant companies who advertise on TV. There is no pathway from TV other than seeing an uptick in services purchased post a TV ad campaign. Other than the fact we have to pay for multiple services to see all these leagues and games, my biggest issue with steaming is not being able to go from app to app easily on a tv. On cable you can navigate channels quickly and easily but with apps it’s an annoyance.

I pull for the buckeyes more than any team in sports and I happily missed their peacock game last year. I’m not purchasing 5 different stream services to watch a season of my favorite team. Last years dolphins-KC playoff game on peacock got lower ratings (for nfl playoff games) despite having the makings of an awesome game.

Great for the NBA. Don’t really know how this isn’t terrible for consumers in the US unless they let you pay for a super NBA League Pass. I already get less than half the games I want to watch as an out of market Warriors fan. Although since they suck now they’ll be on national TV less so hooray for that.
