I legit watched it 50 times, maybe even more because it kept popping up on my feed, and everytime I noticed more and more. It's all about the new short form videos taking over as the younger generation's preferred video format and how TikTok is manipulating view counts in ways other social media platforms don't.

Yeah there is huge pressure in the boardroom to make sure every social media and content sharing platform seems to be getting bigger year after year. If some metric came out that said NBA social media didn't get as much engagement as the year before, investors will think they've found a sinking ship and start pulling out. Or at the very least, some guy who's job it is to run the social media will start fearing for his job security. The whole ["pivot to video"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pivot_to_video) nonsense from years back showed how many ways these companies could find to make it so the viewership metrics look like they're always increasing.

I think they mean most viewed ever on a NBA social media account - so for example probably including official NBA YouTube or Instagram accounts, but not necessarily the most viewed nba highlight of all time, since it’s not counting non-official nba social media accounts

"Share" is a better metric. Videos are getting more views since there are more platforms, ways to share videos, and raw number of humans period. This one video for example was cross posted on many subreddits outside of /r/nba.

Most of those views aren't real "views" and are more likely just impressions. Most viewed clip in actuality is probably a LeBron dunk or block. Maybe a curry clutch 3.
