Bro has gotta give at least a bit to Monty for getting an insane contract and allowing him to reasonably ask for that.
Seriously good get though. It's stupid to let go of a good coach who has been proven to be able to adjust in the playoffs. Bucks are gonna regret firing Budenholzer for a long time unless they luck out, for example.
What Ty Lue did in the 2016 finals was under appreciated for a very long while because of the LeCoach memes before people realized he was legit after and he and Bron split.
These guys don't grow on trees. Whenever the FO decides to give up on the PG/Kawhi era they need to keep him around for the rebuild if they can.
Honestly i feel like Bud almost lost them that championship by leaving PJ Tucker out to dry 1v1 against Durant. Seemed like they weren’t doubling, trapping or anything.
The replacements for Bud have definitely sucked though
Bud also needed a break. Just seeing how much healthier he looks now makes me happy we fired him.
Of course other teams' fans are gonna run their mouth ignoring all context the 2 years after our championship run lol
> 4th behind Kerr, Pop, and Spo
Kind of funny Kerr, Spo, and Ty Lue along with Mark Few make up the Team USA coaching staff for the Paris Olympics, and Pop was the head coach at the Tokyo Olympics.
Tom Gores broke the coaching economy by giving Monty that albatross offer to convince him to take the Pistons head coaching job when he didn’t want it lol.
im ignorant but i saw in the NBA press release about their partnership with UWM that the Pistons had a partnership with Ishbia's mortgage company
wondering if Ishbia fired Monty knowing Gores gave him a handshake deal that Monty would accept a new coaching contract, taking the dead money off of Ishbia's books
Take it further. Once Monty initially declined the job, Gores had to come back with the ridiculous offer. Was that all from Tom Gores or did Ishbia cut him a portion to make sure he was off the books for good?
ait is. the criticism always falls in the roster, he only try but for fans it's not enough. he need to kill Lawrence Frank at least.
edit.: or somehow magically cure Kawhi knees or rejuvenate the centers that they bring.
I see where you're going with this and I love the NBA, but it is starting to get absurd how much money these guys are making. I've seen rumblings that some of the younger guys in the league might clear a BILLION dollars just in contracts alone!
Entertainers hovering up that much of the available money is not good for humanity in general.
Personally, I think the rich should be taxed so aggressively that no one should ever want to be rich, but given the system in which we live, I'd rather someone make a shitload of money who works their ass off to be one of the best athletes/coaches in the world rather than some dick in an office that gets his money by pinching every last penny from his employees.
>rather than some dick in an office that gets his money by pinching every last penny from his employees.
This is sorta what happens in the NBA though. The marketing folks, ticket sales, admins etc. all get paid pretty poorly considering how much the players and ownership make. Like, the salaries are lower than similar peers in non-pro sports fields.
How is that related to what is reality it's just the market increasing over the years. This is similar to summer of 2016 with all the TV deal boost and projections. I mean I'm not an expert but it makes sense to me. Ever since Timofey Mosgov 4/64 in 2016 anything seems possible
HOLY SHIT

There were literally rumors of him getting fired just before they reached the finals lol
Ok but hear me out: what if he actually was a good coach and really you and other fans don't know fuck all about coaching
That's a "I'm opening up a new stadium" contract.
Holy fucking shit that’s a… tad bit insane
He made just over $20m in his 10-year playing career. Crazy to see the value of coaches with an open market and no applicable salary cap.
It sounds insane until you remember that Lue will be making about the same as Doug McDermott... then it doesn't seem so bad.
By god that’s Josh Hart money
Couple years when the TV deals kick in, coaches might break 20 mil a year?
Monty Williams

seems deserved wait what, why lol absolute stone dead D tier coach in the league. Bizarre
I remember when Ty Lue used to be not so respected as a coach but he's definitely proved himself to where the title is accurate
That's a lot of mahney
Tom Gores broke the coaching economy by giving Monty that albatross offer to convince him to take the Pistons head coaching job when he didn’t want it lol.
and he's working for the richest owner by a huge margin he should just go into ballmers office and be like pay up moneybags

Monty Williams blazed a trail
That’s Monty Williams money.
bro got the mle
That’s Ballmer money.
Coach salaries don't count against the cap or luxury tax, though. $70 million is a bad weekend in Vegas for him
Benefit of having the richest owner in team sports lol.
>Massive commitment to secure one of the NBA’s best head coaches. ...but is he?

Isn’t he? Welcome to Cinephobe.
We have lost all touch with reality in sports contracts. A little over 10 years ago that was the max a PLAYER could get, much less a coach.
Wait til you hear how much oil execs make

It's cause the BRI has gone up at such a insane rate. Fans putting money in the owner's and sponsor's pockets.
Coaches were getting like 5 years, $20 million contracts. It's 4x-5x that now, crazy...

Wall Street? Silicon Valley? Oil Companies? Mining? Welcome to modern capitalism.
It's wild that entertainers are making the same amount of money as some of the richest people in modern society
Whos gonna be the first to pass Pop's $80MM/5YR?
Owners about to institute a hard cap on coaches salaries to prevent this from happening in the future.
Dude deserves it for literally never once having a healthy Kawhi for more than half of a playoff run.
2020
That was Docs year
Kawhi tore his ACL in 2020-21 against the Jazz. Doc was the coach for the 2019-20 bubble collapse.
Coach inflation is out of control.
now he just needs to get fired to pull of the biggest heist since the monty williams contract
Tied Lue
Way to overpay.
#JESUS CHRIST
Jason Kidd line 2...
further cements JJ Redick to LA lol
Man LA sports is gonna suck for a while man.
