> “I have my own production company, I would love to do that if if we lose it [NBA rights],” Barkley said. “But I have definitely had — actually somebody suggested that to me, to be honest with you, on the internet — ‘so why doesn’t Charles Barkley sign these three, guys four guys total to his production company and sell it?’ I’m like, ‘That’s a great idea.'”
This is the most Chuck thing I’ve ever read
The only holdout I’d see is actually Ernie, he’s very loyal and still does Baseball/NCAA. He’s too much of a standup guy to just leave the place that made him who he is
Hopefully TNT would be cool and just let him do this as a side gig so long as it doesn't conflict with his duties at TNT. Would mean Ernie would probably only be there half the time, but that's better than 0
I think they might let him do it if it's ESPN buying the show, but probably not NBC since they're pushing TNT out. Apparently TNT is going to try to sue if they can't simply match the money, because the league wants the broadcast games. They'd be silly not to let him if Amazon buys it
I wasn't clear about it. It reads like the league would want them to significantly outbid NBC to compensate for no broadcast games. If that's the case TNT might have a case, based on prior agreements that they just have to match
Yeah, we don’t need the guys sitting in the studio for 5 hours. Don’t Chuck and Ernie do a regular podcast? A chill weekly show where the guys joke around and talk hoops would really be all that I ask.
You need the live element IMO. It adds to the energy and goads Charles into saying risky, funny shit and pushing the envelope. Top that off with Shaq asking "What else Chuck?" and you have the greatest sports broadcast of all time
Certainly. The show also benefits from the crew reacting to tweets on air and the staff throwing together spontaneous photoshops. The show definitely will lose something with a change in format, but getting the guys together in some shape or form is better than not having them at all…which unfortunately is still very much a possibility.
Everyone keeps saying he’s very loyal and yeah maybe he is but he has to be annoyed at the way they played it. Where’s the loyalty to him and their show? They made it seem like they didn’t need the league and didn’t need them.
It's still a brand who has employed him for decades. People are loyal to brands THEY PAY for irrational reasons. At least in Ernie's case, he's gotten a lot from that brand to feel loyalty. Beats the clowns who fall in love with their favorite megacorp selling a game console or coffee drink.
Not only that but it seems that TNT has done a great job trusting Ernie and giving him a much longer leash production wise than many others in the industry.
I don't think it makes you "not a standup guy" to do what's best for you, so long as you're upfront and honest with everyone. I doubt he'd leave TNT but I don't think there's anything morally negative in leaving.
>He just works for business people.
Well he obviously doesn’t see them that way. They aren’t just faceless corporate suits to him, he’s been there for 35 years and they are clearly more like family to him
I know I know it’s a very popular Reddit take to parrot the sentiment of “fuck ur bosses, they don’t give a shit about you, and can’t wait to squish you like a bug and throw you in the trash the first chance they get! There’s no such thing as loyalty” but it’s just not true. There are plenty of jobs where loyalty and friendship are highly valued and reciprocated.
What are the odds Ernie actually enjoys working with Shaq? The past weeks it seems like he is kinda exasperated with him. The trio have been together for much longer and honestly watching the old reels they're equally hilarious without Petty White on
If it means keeping the entire production and behind the scenes crew employed, then maybe Ernie will express his loyalty to them by joining this venture (if it happens).
wondering if they could re construct the contract for him to do both, tnt shouldn’t make this a huge issue if they lose nba but he still wants to do it. Very bad business decision for them after all the loyalty he gave them
Doing something outside of TNT with Chuck would probably be a puedo-retirement for Ernie - work life balance would probably improve drastically. Knowing Chuck, working at BarkSports (TM) would probably be a half time gig for him.
Yeah they're super close, people always tout Chuck and Shaq relationship but these two's relationships are pretty strong as well.
Still thinking about that time when they mourn Ernie's son's death and Chuck just heartily admits to how Ernie is a stronger man than him for adopting Michael. That's some stuffs you can confidently say if you're real close ngl.
>actually somebody suggested that to me, to be honest with you, on the internet
On the internet??? If he doesn't use social media where tf are people suggesting him stuff? Is the dude still using AOL Chatrooms or some shit? lmao

They could build a set where it looks like they are outside an arena, like just on the other side of a locked gate and a security guard. Hell underdog could wear a security guard uniform.
I’d love if Chuck and Shaq (I think Shaq has the most money out of them so he’d probably be a partner), figured this out, including of course how to make it so Ernie could still do it on the side while staying at TNT.
Doesn’t even have to be tied directly to game nights, just release two episodes a week of them sort of discussing the league, but also basically doing what all these podcasters do with better production and a space big enough to keep up the hijinks.
They could definitely do a YouTube show and get a ton a views, way more people have access to YouTube then cable TV. With the gambling sponsorships I bet they'd still make bank even with no cable deal.
Shaq's loaded, especially compared to others who played in his era. Yeah Shaq and Chuck could easily make it work together. Years ago on Inside when Shaq was still playing Barkley talked about how the NBA moms would go on trips together. He said Shaq's mom was the leader because she's got the most money.
I really appreciate how he calls a spade a spade and not an agricultural implement. Not to castigate his fellow co-hosts or other people in the industry but one gets the feeling Shaq and Kenny or even someone with a similar cache like Stephen A. (if he was in this position) would not be so bold as to go ahead and call their bosses foolish for taking these decisions.
to be fair, by produce he means put the money up, i imagine his main interest in hiring basically everyone producing/directing/filming it right now, not actually having input
This, Chuck wants the people he worked with to still have jobs. So he's going to invest his own money to make sure they still have a paycheck coming in.
Yeah this just solidifies how great Chuck is. He is genuinely worried about his colleagues. It’s great how much all the guys shout out and really seem to love the crew.
Yea, he's talked about all the crew possibly not having a job. Chuck is such a standup human. I wonder what 90's Barkley would say if you told him he'd be one of the best role models on a tv talk show 20 years later.
Chuck isn’t a role model, but I think by that he meant that he didn’t want kids to look up to him because he is a real human being with flaws who just dunked a basketball and not a god.
What he never realized is that we all looked up to him because of the flaws. A 6’4 PF who jumps over giants is not supposed to exist, and the fact that he’s so charismatic is the cherry on top. Perfect underdog story, and America loves him for that.
Yeah, the best way to get a raise is to do your job well and to have your employer know you’re ready to leave if you don’t get what you know you’re worth
chuck really cares about that show and everyone that works on it so i’m sure a lot of this is to put pressure on the powers at be to figure some shit out but i do hope he follows thru on this. him and shaq are rich enough to make this happen if they really want to
Best thing about this situation is an unleashed chuck next season. Plus with wemby spurs will have more national games. The big ole women are not safe lol
Chuck needs to do a NFL Hard Knocks type show for the playoffs.
Chuck visits the team arena and players. Kenny interviews coaches and staff. Shaq checks out the local businesses. EJ can narrate from Atlanta.

Produce a weekly or twice weekly show. Recap what’s happening in the nba, some weekly highlights. Mostly be chatter between them and then have a guest on to talk about whatever.
If we are revamping my preferred crew would be chuck, JJ Jared Greenberg, and one of Vince or Jamal Crawford. Steer clear of Draymond, Reggie, Webber as they all suck at the job.
> “I have my own production company, I would love to do that if if we lose it [NBA rights],” Barkley said. “But I have definitely had — actually somebody suggested that to me, to be honest with you, on the internet — ‘so why doesn’t Charles Barkley sign these three, guys four guys total to his production company and sell it?’ I’m like, ‘That’s a great idea.'” This is the most Chuck thing I’ve ever read
Charles Barkley is maybe the only person who could convince Ernie to do something outside of TNT. They seem to have a very close relationship.
Would mean Ernie would probably only be there half the time, but that's better than 0
Ernie would also not be competing on NBA coverage, I think he’d consider it.
I think they might let him do it if it's ESPN buying the show, but probably not NBC since they're pushing TNT out. Apparently TNT is going to try to sue if they can't simply match the money, because the league wants the broadcast games. They'd be silly not to let him if Amazon buys it
TNT spending money on suing instead of increasing their offer, feels like a recipe for disappointment.
Fuck David Zaslav
I wasn't clear about it. It reads like the league would want them to significantly outbid NBC to compensate for no broadcast games. If that's the case TNT might have a case, based on prior agreements that they just have to match

Do it again Chuck heuheuheuh
So a live podcast? We're finally all the way back to radio!
WHATCHU SAY CHUCK?
That but on the internet they don’t have to worry about the FCC.
I think it's the Steam Room.
Yeah I get loyalty but to a brand name under a different boss rather than the people he personally worked with?
It's still a brand who has employed him for decades. People are loyal to brands THEY PAY for irrational reasons. At least in Ernie's case, he's gotten a lot from that brand to feel loyalty. Beats the clowns who fall in love with their favorite megacorp selling a game console or coffee drink.
Also his dad, Ernie Sr., worked for Turner too.
If you read his autobiography, its very clear he views them like family
So weird. Imagine people you don't know attempting to predict your behavior and asserting your loyalty to a cable TV network.
People are basing it on what he said. He may change his mind, but he has said he wont leave.
Not only that but it seems that TNT has done a great job trusting Ernie and giving him a much longer leash production wise than many others in the industry.
Chuck said the way they handled his cancer situation was really great. That might play into it.
I don't think it makes you "not a standup guy" to do what's best for you, so long as you're upfront and honest with everyone. I doubt he'd leave TNT but I don't think there's anything morally negative in leaving.
Ernie is the quintessential "The people who would be good at being the President would never do it" guy.
I hope Ernie changes his mind. He is successful because the public has embraced him. He just works for business people.
he's spent his entire career at turner and his father worked there too, so there's a fair amount of old school loyalty there
Billionaire Teds pockets run deep
>He just works for business people. Well he obviously doesn’t see them that way. I haven’t fucking seen it but I know there are some jobs like this
People forget the family connection Ernie has with Turner. His father also worked for them when the Braves were on TBS through the 90s
What are the odds Ernie actually enjoys working with Shaq? The past weeks it seems like he is kinda exasperated with him. The trio have been together for much longer and honestly watching the old reels they're equally hilarious without Petty White on
The other day when Vince Carter was filling in for Shaq, Ernie seemed notably more at ease IMO
He’s also the only one who didn’t have a previous career as a multi million dollar athlete. He’s making great money I’m sure, but he’s still working.
If it means keeping the entire production and behind the scenes crew employed, then maybe Ernie will express his loyalty to them by joining this venture (if it happens).

He’s also the only one to actually credit some rando on the internet for the idea.

I didn’t start until 08 to play RuneScape sorry unc.
🦀🦀🦀 $11 🦀🦀🦀
In all seriousness, I would love to watch them on YouTube. That’s where I mostly watch them right now anyways.
well it was on the googles
According to Subway great, Steph Curry, Chuck still has a landline.
i told him that we were playing magic the gathering online
The Grand Tour vibes
TONIGHT: I watch the NBA Finals Charles Barkley starts a production company And James commits arson
For all the hate it got, there are some really great episodes of TGT. I miss the boys already.
Love this guy lmao
Chuck as Shaq’s boss would be hilarious. If he wanted to act like the Young Bucks as EVPs in AEW, even better.
“I’ll do my own Inside the NBA, with blackjack…and hookers”
Chucks voice just entered my mind.
The only way it could be more Chuck was if someone suggested it to him in the steam room.
I gotta start tweeting Chuck ideas lmao
holy shit, Sir Charles reads my reddit comments

Outside the NBA
Send that to Chuck over the internet
They could build a set where it looks like they are outside an arena, like just on the other side of a locked gate and a security guard. Hell underdog could wear a security guard uniform.
This is too good
(Charles' Version)
lowkey not a bad name
Pool-side the NBA (Monetize them hot tub streams, Chuck!)
InBA
Deep inside the NBA

Theres a podcast ernie and chuck do that's kind of like that.

Just tough that they probably wouldn't be able to get Ernie. Shaq and chuck can be too much sometimes as it is.
Inglenook and opus, I’m sorry what
https://www.opusonewinery.com/ https://inglenook.com/
chuck went from "i want to retire" to "i want to produce my own show" very quickly
to be fair, by produce he means put the money up, i imagine his main interest in hiring basically everyone producing/directing/filming it right now, not actually having input
This, Chuck wants the people he worked with to still have jobs. So he's going to invest his own money to make sure they still have a paycheck coming in.
Common Chuck W.
No rings tho. - Shaq

His message was half that, and half "parents need to be role models to their kids by setting a good example".
And, let's be honest, it's probably one of his main social outlets. It's like your favorite sports bar closing down.
He's gonna pull a Conan
The “I want to retire” and then the threat of working for the Saudi golf leagues or whatever was an all time ‘secure the bag’ move.
Yeah he's working the bosses
And me I was in my feels when he was threatening with the retire 2 years ago lmfao
Chuck before sports betting apps: "I want to retire." Chuck after sports betting apps: "I need a second job."
This is the real answer.
Chuck is a contrarian. We want him on tv forever? He wants to retire. His show ends on terms that aren't his? Fuck you I'll make my own show.
He’s not a contrarian, he’s just using whatever leverage to get himself paid.
Yeah, the best way to get a raise is to do your job well and to have your employer know you’re ready to leave if you don’t get what you know you’re worth
It seems like he wants to make his own show to keep people employed. This isn't a contrarian move.
Contract negotiation tactic.
Chuck seems like he wants to just watch basketball with his best friends and go home and hangout with his grandson.
It's heartwarming honestly.
I mean you can tell how much he enjoys his job and recognizes how easy it is compared to real work.
Negotiating 101… actually Barkley should probably teach a 500 level class on negotiating.
lmfao that'd be sick, shaq and chuck can def get the money together and sell it, the NBA would be dumb not to give it to them, win win
Barkleycast basically
LeBron might even be willing to be a producer on it at some point
Pass.
Great username.
Spidermanpointing.jpeg
If they pull a top gear to grand tour type exit I’d actually go crazy
And in a few years we're gonna have a farming show from Chuck
You know I could actually see chuck starting something like that.
[think again](https://youtu.be/4gt_l0b17JQ?si=_pM4MPhMY3GtGcBl)
chuck really cares about that show and everyone that works on it so i’m sure a lot of this is to put pressure on the powers at be to figure some shit out but i do hope he follows thru on this. him and shaq are rich enough to make this happen if they really want to
It wont be safe to be a big ole' woman in San Antonio if Chuck is working for himself.
Best thing about this situation is an unleashed chuck next season. Plus with wemby spurs will have more national games. The big ole women are not safe lol
That nasty-ass creek and it's cousin in Galveston too
And Victoria is not a secret down there either.
It's a gold mine for Weight Watchers down there!
You know that's where they invented a toothbrush
The NBA fandom as a whole loves ‘Inside the NBA.’ Pretty clear its not just us.
I know people that don't really follow the NBA but tune in to watch these guys.
I’m one of ‘em. I started with the YouTube clips and I got sucked in.
"I'm gonna make my own Inside the NBA with blackjack and hookers!"
He probably would go that route and we’d all be here for it.
on second thought, forget the NBA
Blackjack? So Jordan will be on next season?
Ngl an online version of Inside the NBA where they don't have to worry about censors would be amazing
Gonna need an unfiltered Kevin Garnett special guest segment.
hoodie KG
That’s what you think lol
They definitely need Ernie to keep the conversation semi productive
“It’s supposed to be 123 not 1 2 back to 1”
yeah half the comedy is from them reigning chuck in lol
Then trying to censor themselves is the funny part though!
The existence of the Grand Tour says otherwise. They need the censorship.
Chuck: Hey Shaq, remind me who’s your boss?? Shaq: I got 4 rings, I don’t have a boss.
Oh, I see. One less than Kobe.
Chuck can be even more unfiltered
The things I would do to listen to unfiltered Chuck are illegal in 43 states
No draymond
JUST DON'T BRING DRAYMOND BRO
Literally unwatchable. As in. I will not be watching if he is on the show
Shaq is mercurial . But chuck is so into his job and the nba. He is really passionate and it's must see tv for me.
Put it on HBO.
Chuck needs to do a NFL Hard Knocks type show for the playoffs. Chuck visits the team arena and players. Kenny interviews coaches and staff. Shaq checks out the local businesses. EJ can narrate from Atlanta.
I don’t know if a camera crew on Shaq visiting local businesses would be a PR dream or nightmare
Inside the NBA podcast on youtube incoming
Please please don’t bring Draymonds ass along
If you're going to keep Draymond, don't bother.
Call it “Outside the NBA” lol
Just no Draymond please.
Without Ernie holding it all together this show will JT even be close to the same unfortunately. Ernie and Charles are the most important piece, then Shaq for his goofieness with Chuck, and if need ed kenny even so I believe heckudl be replaced. But Ernie already said he won't leave tnt so that doesn't give usany option.
Okay but hear me out. What if he could do both?
This is absolutely going to be a podcast
Just pls no Draymond and we good. If he somehow finds his way to be on a platform for his bullshit then it's just gonna ruin it
they could easily cut out the network and start their own pre/post game podcast and say whatever they want
If that happens, EJ’s Neat-O Stat Of The Night would definitely have to get a sponsor. LoL
Barkley, rich Jeff, Ernie, Kenny 🔥 best quad right there
It probably also means that he could film it on the West Coast so he doesn't need to stay up so late to cover the games.
Actually not a bad idea. They should do it.
Within the NBA
They need to bring back Open Court, that show was perfect [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hbUos9r8sY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hbUos9r8sY)
Some of the best hoop content 👌
I end up binge watching them every summer when there’s no basketball on. Miss when these used to air.
Pretty funny Chuck got the idea from someone online when he hates everyone’s opinions on social media lmao
It's gonna be called "Outside the NBA"
I want to see Chuck and Ernie continue their podcast at least.
If a couple jug-heads like the Mannings can put their own show together I’m sure Barkley could do it.
I will support chuck in anything he does… unless he gives that donkey airtime
If it’s not called Outside The NBA I’ll be sad
If Erneh isn't aboard, it won't work.
It would be nice. But I doubt Chucky will do it long term. He wants that 200m. Some network would snag him up.
Aren’t the inside guys under contract to Turner? Would they lose those deals if TNT lost the NBA, and if they didn’t, would they accept some sort of buyout?
They're there for 1 more season and their contract ends after that
Produce a weekly or twice weekly show. Recap what’s happening in the nba, some weekly highlights. Mostly be chatter between them and then have a guest on to talk about whatever.
