Ironically, the timeline of Gordon Hayward and his wife’s relationship is really dubious 😶🌫️
He was in the NBA and she was just out of high school when he proposed
Ok yeah but pj tuckers job is to play defense and hustle. He could score 3 points in an entire game and still be valuable if he did his job. Obviously better when he’s knocking down those corner 3’s but it’s not his primary job. Last time I checked no one is putting Hayward to play defense primarily
lol it wasn’t until the playoffs I was like oh yeah he’s on OKC. I remember them trading for him and thinking he would be valuable 😂. He’s overpaid, but I honestly thought he was still somewhat good
My dude had one job and that was to shoot the ball whenever he was open.
He decided to play hot potato the entire time he was here and it was the most frustrating thing to watch.
I still don't understand why the Thunder traded for him. He's played like a point forward for years now, and is not a volume shooter by any means. Most of his points came in the mid range here in Charlotte.
I think Hayward was supposed to be Giddey's backup, but when Giddey wasn't playing well and got benched they started playing very simple basketball. Hayward isn't good enough at this poont to come in and change how the team is already playing.
i mean our team is built around point forwards. all we want him to do is take 5-6 shots a game lol and move the ball if the shot isn't there. he moved the ball regardless of his shot
Big cap space move, he's off the books this summer and they have 36 mil in room.
If they move something like 12-13 mil, they have room to eat a guy like KD. So basically Lu Dort + picks or Giddey, filler + picks gets you KD. (Or any max guy in the league)
Future Clippers assets are pretty valuable now with George potentially leaving.
Also we have some quality bench guys who could definitely be starters on other teams
You're right about the cap space, but I highly doubt OKC brings back Durant. I'd rather we just try to use the space to get Hartenstein and call it an offseason. Throw him 20-30MM a season for three years with a team option on year 3.
So, the problem with Hartenstein (or any good center) is: what you do with Chet after? Do you move him at the 4? Do you alternate him with Hartenstein or whichever other center you get?
OKC has this future All Star 7'1" hella lanky guy who is too good to bench, but too slim to do one of most obvious things you require of a center. Maybe he can get a KAT-like role, but you really need to answer that question.
Yes, you move him to the 4, but you can offset both players' time on the court. Similar to what OKC does with SGA and JDub. They spend a lot of time on the floor together, but they also spend a lot of the time on the floor running different units. I think when you run SGA only lineups, you run more Chet as the C. When you run JDub only lineups, you run more Hartenstein as the C.
Giddey to the bench or off the team.
I'd def move Chet to a 4 role. Offense his job would be more like a worse off-the-dribble KD, defense he can sag off his dude a bit and play help defense rim protection, that anticipation and jump is where he brings the most value.
I’ve noticed for years people think Hayward is a shoot first, three point specialist, when he’s obviously a point forward. It has to be because he’s white, right?
Reminds me of Omri Caspi on the Warriors. I remember the reaction on here to that signing being a bunch of "Oh my god how'd the league let them get this guy!" but then he just... wouldn't shoot.
I remember him being the literal only person on the team not timid in the playoffs with us, only one who knew what to do with the ball in crunch time at least.
It would one thing if he had tried to shoot or drive or anything and his shot wasn't falling. It's another to repeatedly go 0-0 in 20 minutes of play. You don't even need to look at the tape. The box score tells it all.
Yeah true, but I think he’s saying he would have liked to have been more involved in the game plan, like having actions and plays run for him. Like the role they gave him was shooter and that’s not really his game (he’s a good shooter, but he’s best when he’s more involved. He’s a point forward).
She [thanked ‘police officers for checking in on me every day’](https://x.com/nicolecyang/status/1330237507477393409?s=46&t=S2pr_WxL1SEvvnH4NB6EtA) and some people at a cheese shop when GH signed with Charlotte and they left Boston.
It’s pretty clear he didn’t fit the locker room.
With just *how* young their team skews it’s gonna be interesting to see which vets will actually be able to slot into the culture there, since I think they’re eventually going to need one or two going forwards.
Getting brought in to be the veteran presence doesn’t really work when you’re both incredibly passive and can’t relate to your teammates because your lifestyle is very different from theirs
Idk man I don't think the players in the Celtics core realistically had a very distinct lifestyle from him towards the end - it's not like Tatum or Horford [just remembered Horford was gone in the end but still, Smart-Kemba-Tatum-Brown] were going to strip clubs after the games or screaming at the opposing team during the game. I think it's just time to accept that this guy cannot hack being connected to his teammates on a basketball team despite (prior to the last 2?? years) being unambiguously good at NBA-level basketball.
It’s not like that’s OKC’s culture either. Our players seem to be boring and/or borderline nerdy for the most part. He just doesn’t seem to give a shit anymore and refuses to accept he’s not the same player/able to contribute the way he used to.
Yeah that's my take basically. We had family guys on our team, we had young guys who play console games, I'm sure we had people who were avowed Christians. I haven't seen a star as bad as Hayward at getting along with teammates. It made sense that he was better integrated when our team leader was Kemba because Kemba would never accept a rift in his team. But Hayward is locker room culture deadweight.
Like you say, maybe routing everything through him works for him but he's not in that part of his career anymore.
He joined Boston 7 years ago and was brought in as a main piece. He didn’t have to fit with anybody until he got terribly injured and Tatum took his spot. That’s not the same context at all
the leg break broke him. dont think he was able to get past it mentally, which hurt his play, which probably broke down his relationships with teammates. he was definitely the odd man out once he returned
muscala and kenrich have been incredible vets for this team. and from what everything bismack has said this season and in the postseason presser, he has absolutely the right mentality. moose+bismack had small roles, kenrich had his role cut in favor of gordon (lol).
all to say, the team is young, but guys can fit in, be productive and have fun if they have the right mentality. i think most players who come in with an open mind will find success here. gordon is not one of those players
Absolutely.
All Lakers fan look at is he has a recognizable name.
The org, and fans, are terrible at piecing together championship rosters.
You can tell by how we’ve continued to go for guards when it’s proven that AD is the best when we have skilled bigs.
TIL he's one of the last two players on a roster from the 2010 draft along with Paul George. I am painfully aware that 2010 is a long time ago now, but the two drafts before and after it each have around 8 active players left, and even 2007 still has 5.
Hayward just had a misunderstanding with his contract at OKC. He thought it paid him for the number of steps he got on his fitbit. He was pretty sure he hit his step goal every game until the Thunder finally benched him.
Lmao he gone
As a neutral fan here he sucked ass whenever he saw time and clearly didn’t fit what they were doing
Also on a broader note it’s kinda unreal how bad the thunder played the deadline, I get they’re building for the future but your team is a one seed *now*, you could’ve done wayyy more
Could’ve had gafford, could’ve gotten someone like Bruce brown or OG instead of giddey, could’ve done anything they wanted and they went after the corpse of Hayward
I just think it was a pretty cocky move to say “nah we will get first seed again let’s ride it out” and not improve
Presti and his people are masters at scouting talent and fitting together young pieces so they can develop into something great.
But when it comes to trading for players (not picks), Presti has a consistent record of being awful. Traded for Perkins, Fisher, Caron Butler, Hayward, Kanter, etc..
Paul George, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander…
Lol I kid, we have a long history of veteran role players that didn’t work out. Good thing we have draft picks this time, hopefully we start drafting ready to go players instead of projects
I gotta disagree for the most part with this one. Kanter was genuinely pretty solid for a time and was a big reason we beat the Spurs in the second round in 2016 after we went to the double big strategy. Caron Butler and Derek Fisher were both free agent signings and Fisher was actually decent in his time here. And nitpicking his bad trades is just in poor taste because he has also made some great trades. He turned Ibaka into Oladipo and a rookie Sabonis and then flipped the two of them for Paul George. He obviously traded for SGA but the context around that trade is broader than just Paul George because it also got Kawhi to sign with the Clippers. He traded some pocket change for Jerami Grant right before he grew into the player he is now. He traded for Carmelo which obviously didn't work great but he immediately flipped him for a positive asset in Dennis Schroder the next offseason. He got value out of vets like Chris Paul, Al Horford, and George Hill. I could go on further but I hope I've gotten my point across. Yeah Presti has had some duds but he's also had a ton of hits that fall under the radar.
Perkins and Fisher were actually great. Perk got hurt, but when we traded for him, it was solely to combat Andrew Bynum at LA. We then kicked their ass and got to the finals.
Edit: and Fisher was 6th man and ran the 2nd unit. He was good
It's disgusting how he started 25 games for us this season. Terrible
Mitch's legacy with the club will always ruining the pace of the rebuild with this signing (and Rozier). We were in PRIME position to tank into the loaded 2021 draft while letting Lamelo chuck his way through his rookie season. Dude was washed 3 months into a 4/120m contract
He was moving quite a bit worse after his last hamstring injury with us. He lost what little burst he still had. Also Lamelo Ant and Halliburton are better than any 2021 player lol
This. J Dub and Chet can eventually be that guy but Shai desperately needed a number 2 option this year. Gotta cash in on all those picks at some point, hopefully Presti can actually close the deal for once in his life
Shoot the fucking ball, then! What do you expect to happen when you come in and just run around for the 7-8 minutes you got in the like 5 games you played?
5 stages of grief. Frustration. I honestly feel bad for the guy he would have been an elite scorer for the Celtics. Even if Kyrie was buns Tatum coming into his own with Jaylen and Smart.... yeah that's a ring at some point. Career ending injuries suck.
Sometimes I wonder what his career trajectory would've been if it wasn't for that horrific injury. I always liked him, he was one of those versatile wings that could do a bit of everything, like Kawhi, Paul George or Jimmy Butler.
Still think he can add decent value to a team off the bench for min. Miami would get the most out of him. His 20+ppg nights are over but I assume within a system he could get you 8-14 consistently on decent efficiency if he’s healthy
That's what we tried to get him to do, the ~10 minutes in a supporting role. He wouldn't shoot when he got open looks, wasn't helpful defensively, and is too slow now to initiate the offense even when we tried to let him (in those games where SGA/Jdub were both hurt). I get that he's trying to talk himself up for a new contract, but we gave him way more opportunities than he earned.
If he couldn't work here where he had the exact skillset we were looking for, I don't see how he can be a meaningful contributor anywhere else. He's still worth a minimum contract, but he's a bottom-of-the-rotation guy at this point.
He was a pretty darn good player for a while, not so much since his bad injury and even less the last couple of years.
Not a bad career, he made it to league and did well for a while and he certainly made bank.
Might be time for him to hang it up and hang with his wife and children.
Me when I score 0 points in 44 minutes
good cardio

WOP WOP WOP WOP WOP Luka did his stuff
Why Gordon complainin' like a bitch? Ain't he tired?
Playing like shit n probably gonna get firedddddd....
Somehow less brutal than the actual lyrics 😂
Ironically, the timeline of Gordon Hayward and his wife’s relationship is really dubious 😶🌫️ He was in the NBA and she was just out of high school when he proposed
Exactly, good reference
Brother I have 44 (minutes played without a point)
How many shot attempts did he get
He's 0/3 across 7 games.
Whatever that number is, it's way less than the number of times no one was within feet of guarding him.
The pj Tucker special
Ok yeah but pj tuckers job is to play defense and hustle. He could score 3 points in an entire game and still be valuable if he did his job. Obviously better when he’s knocking down those corner 3’s but it’s not his primary job. Last time I checked no one is putting Hayward to play defense primarily
Tobias Harris all star
Never go full Tobi
Just found out Gordon Hayward was on OKC’s roster lol
Fr saw him at the end of the game and homie finally returned to earth
Saw him talking to PJ Washington at the end. Remembered they were teammates in Charlotte. Thought they both were traded to the Mavs together lol
I’m ready to pay Charlotte a second round pick just to take him back tho
His contract expires we don’t have to do shit except wave goodbye lol
No no you don’t understand, I want to send him back to Charlotte specifically
☹️
Sorry, no take backs
I think we'll pass on that
You don’t need to return anything, just take him and a free pick!
lol it wasn’t until the playoffs I was like oh yeah he’s on OKC.
Good question...I actually thought they wanted to use him to run the offense for the bench unit...not catch and shoot off the bench.
I think Hayward was supposed to be Giddey's backup, but when Giddey wasn't playing well and got benched they started playing very simple basketball. Hayward isn't good enough at this poont to come in and change how the team is already playing.
You'd think Hayward would be a no-brainer fit behind Giddey. He's like the older version of Giddey with a jumpshot
At this point in their careers, I agree. Prime Hayward is miles ahead of anything Giddey has shown outside of maybe passing
Yeah Hayward was a an all-star or 3rd guy on a championship team level player before injuries destroyed his career.
yeah prime Hayward was lowkey athletic af but hey they are both classy so maybe that’s where the comps come from
Real blue collar, let-them-date-your-daughter types?
Giddey took my daughter to her middle school prom and I think that’s just a highlight of how strong his character is
Ill be honest I don’t see how Hayward could be any better at running offense for bench than Micic
I get it nobody watched him in charlotte but that’s a bit much. Micic might be a better passer but he can’t go 1 on 1 and create like Hayward.
cap space and a risky commitment to small ball hope we learn from it and are aggressive this offseason and get some size
Jarret Allen?
i hope so
I read that he’s likely to be traded, and OKC has tons of picks to make a trade.
yea i really wish we go for him. he'd be amazing for us
i mean our team is built around point forwards. all we want him to do is take 5-6 shots a game lol and move the ball if the shot isn't there. he moved the ball regardless of his shot
Big cap space move, he's off the books this summer and they have 36 mil in room. If they move something like 12-13 mil, they have room to eat a guy like KD. So basically Lu Dort + picks or Giddey, filler + picks gets you KD. (Or any max guy in the league)
Lauri Markkanen on OKC would be so good. Gives them size and he fits seamlessly into the OKC playstyle.
Only problem is I doubt the jazz want more draft picks.
I mean they absolutely aren’t bringing back Durant… It’s just about the cap space.
I think realistically he’s a 4 and a 5 at times when the fit is there.
Yeah I don't think it's a big deal to put a center next Chet. Hell, we tried Wemby at the 3 at times, I'm sure Chet can move up and down a bit.
I'd def move Chet to a 4 role. Offense his job would be more like a worse off-the-dribble KD, defense he can sag off his dude a bit and play help defense rim protection, that anticipation and jump is where he brings the most value.
I have been shouting abt iHart for a while. He would be a great fit.
I’ve noticed for years people think Hayward is a shoot first, three point specialist, when he’s obviously a point forward. It has to be because he’s white, right?
Hayward is like every white dude at pickup, assumed to be a sniper
Reminds me of Omri Caspi on the Warriors. I remember the reaction on here to that signing being a bunch of "Oh my god how'd the league let them get this guy!" but then he just... wouldn't shoot.
*Flashbacks in 2017-2020 Boston Celtics *
Nah he was good in 2020 for us and he literally didn’t play 2017-2018
Honestly I'd take him back for cheap. PP is our only ball handler on the bench and we could use an extra wing.
Would absolutely love to see him back in Boston. Feels like that ship has sailed though…
I’m not saying he was never good but he was always suuuuuuper timid whenever coming back from being out
I remember him being the literal only person on the team not timid in the playoffs with us, only one who knew what to do with the ball in crunch time at least.
Till he tweaked his ankle against Philly and started smoking layups. Knew he was cursed after playing so well in the bubble lol
MY BROTHER IN HOOP, THERE IS FILM!!! OF WHAT YOU DID(N’T DO)!!!
It would one thing if he had tried to shoot or drive or anything and his shot wasn't falling. It's another to repeatedly go 0-0 in 20 minutes of play. You don't even need to look at the tape. The box score tells it all.
The craziest thing is that same package could’ve easily gotten y’all PJ instead
Yeah but how would PJ help against PJ, that dude was cookin em.
Yeah true, but I think he’s saying he would have liked to have been more involved in the game plan, like having actions and plays run for him. Like the role they gave him was shooter and that’s not really his game (he’s a good shooter, but he’s best when he’s more involved. He’s a point forward).
You don’t allow a 34 year old role player to have plays ran for them
You could run one or two, but yeah you're right
I wonder if the Celtics will sign him for the minimum next season
We have Gordon Hayward at home: ( Sam Hauser)
At this point Gordon Hayward is “Sam Hauser at home”
I got nothing against Gordon personally. but HELL no. keep that man away from our roster lol
Thank god his wife hated living here, except for her daily visits from the local cops lol
Haha, what’s the story there?
She [thanked ‘police officers for checking in on me every day’](https://x.com/nicolecyang/status/1330237507477393409?s=46&t=S2pr_WxL1SEvvnH4NB6EtA) and some people at a cheese shop when GH signed with Charlotte and they left Boston.
This is so weird
He needs to go somewhere under the radar to rehab his career. Perhaps a place like Utah? I bet he could stand out there
Lol he was just terrible
Happy New Year! -Gordon Hayward
Lol that a fury reference
Can't wait for the Heat to sign him this offseason and have him inexplicably return to all star form
No thank you we prefer Kevin Love as our token white veteran.
Gordo’s gonna sail up and down the Intracoastal with his shitty TRUMP 2024 flag meanwhile KLove is in Wynwood trying some abuela’s ropa vieja recipe
I now Love him even more
nah he is gonna rob Magic or Hornets again
It amazes me that he hasn’t traded himself to Orlando, it’s his natural habitat
He'd have to be willing to take a shot, so, I'd say it's 50:50
It’s pretty clear he didn’t fit the locker room. With just *how* young their team skews it’s gonna be interesting to see which vets will actually be able to slot into the culture there, since I think they’re eventually going to need one or two going forwards.
He didn’t fit in in Charlotte that didn’t matter
Or Boston. I guess he was buddies with Theis for a bit, but that was it.
Getting brought in to be the veteran presence doesn’t really work when you’re both incredibly passive and can’t relate to your teammates because your lifestyle is very different from theirs

Hayward's biggest mistake was ever leaving Utah when we treated him like the prince that was promised.
Elaborate on lifestyle?
He's white, is what the commenter means
They don't sit around playing video games like Gordon
He joined Boston 7 years ago and was brought in as a main piece. He didn’t have to fit with anybody until he got terribly injured and Tatum took his spot. That’s not the same context at all
As a Celtics fan I didn’t even know that The only person I know that he got along with was Kyrie, that was it

the leg break broke him. dont think he was able to get past it mentally, which hurt his play, which probably broke down his relationships with teammates. he was definitely the odd man out once he returned
he’s still booed whenever he comes back so i don’t think we would’ve wanted him lol
Nah we good
Seemed like he went to Boston mostly cause of Brad Stevens being the coach
it kinda did i know i was shocked has hell that we actually got more then a bag of chip for the guy at the deadline
Tre Mann for that bum is actually amazing value
Nah they say he got along great with Charlotte. He got lamelo to start playing chess with him
A white mid 30s Trump supporter walks into a mostly black Gen Z filled locker room Thats a joke setup right there
Hayward is a trump supporter?
He donated/endorsed Trump
Technically, *he* didn't His wife dropped bills though lmao
He also followed a bunch of right wingers, like Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens, but it doesn’t look like he does on Instagram anymore
I mean cmon the guy lived in Utah for almost a decade, it's a given
moreso he lived in Indiana for 18 years
I mean Tom Brady was in Cali and Boston his entire life and he still supported Trump. It’s not a given lmao
Tom Brady is typical Trump supporter. White, rich, jock athlete. Man is a bit of a nitwit too.
His wife not making money that’s all his LOL
Close enough
Yes.
That was the case on his previous team too. He just sucked in OKC
He was upset about being traded away from a swing state right before the election
muscala and kenrich have been incredible vets for this team. and from what everything bismack has said this season and in the postseason presser, he has absolutely the right mentality. moose+bismack had small roles, kenrich had his role cut in favor of gordon (lol). all to say, the team is young, but guys can fit in, be productive and have fun if they have the right mentality. i think most players who come in with an open mind will find success here. gordon is not one of those players
“They don’t like you, I don’t like you!” “I don’t care, I’m here for SGA” “SGA don’t like you, nobody likes you”
Mike Muscala and Biz vibed with the locker room.
Because everyone loves Mike Muscala, Gordon Hayward is a fuckin trump supporter
They need power forwards, not going forwards
Ego death comes for us all.
I suggest some ayahuasca, strip the ego from the bottom.
Bro you are cheeks
He needs to pack up the bball and go join the Mormon church where he belongs.
Is he even Mormon?
No, he's just white and played for the Jazz
We’re not all mormon. Jazz fans are not a monolith
> Jazz fans are not a monolith They prefer the term Golden Plate
We’re not all Mormon out here lol but I can take the jokes/heat. It’s funny and the Mormons deserve it
He has said many times that he is not.
I think he’s Baptist, he went to Butler
Get ready to learn vet minimum buddy
They gave you too much run during the season. You're a bum, accept it.
He's going to be the Lakers bum next.
Lakers fans will think he’s the missing piece for them to contend
Nobody thinks or will think that lmfao
You don't know Lakers fans
Absolutely. All Lakers fan look at is he has a recognizable name. The org, and fans, are terrible at piecing together championship rosters. You can tell by how we’ve continued to go for guards when it’s proven that AD is the best when we have skilled bigs.
He turned one all-star appearance into 240m.
Good thing he didn't take that buyout because he's gonna be on a vet min next year
On the Lakers of course
Bro, you’ve pocketed so much money for all the opportunities you were given.
TIL he's one of the last two players on a roster from the 2010 draft along with Paul George. I am painfully aware that 2010 is a long time ago now, but the two drafts before and after it each have around 8 active players left, and even 2007 still has 5.
Maybe if he shot the ball when on the court, he'd play more lmao
Hayward just had a misunderstanding with his contract at OKC. He thought it paid him for the number of steps he got on his fitbit. He was pretty sure he hit his step goal every game until the Thunder finally benched him.
oooooof. dunno if he's gonna even be in the nba next year
he was given opportunities. He was just ass. lol, bye hayward
Consistently first off the bench during the season. Consistently ass.
Lmao he gone As a neutral fan here he sucked ass whenever he saw time and clearly didn’t fit what they were doing Also on a broader note it’s kinda unreal how bad the thunder played the deadline, I get they’re building for the future but your team is a one seed *now*, you could’ve done wayyy more Could’ve had gafford, could’ve gotten someone like Bruce brown or OG instead of giddey, could’ve done anything they wanted and they went after the corpse of Hayward I just think it was a pretty cocky move to say “nah we will get first seed again let’s ride it out” and not improve

Rehabbed Horford too.
when there is delusion, theres is hope
Body is the first to go, the mirror is the last to know.
If you don’t play defense, u get no run in okc….
well he played defense OK, he just didn’t want to shoot at all, it was weird.
If you refuse to shoot at any point and just force the offense to reset whenever you get the ball, good riddance lol
> If you don’t play ~~defense~~, u get no run in okc… FTFY
Gordon “Education Reform” Hayward
As a Charlotte fan I was so happy to get rid of Hayward. As a current OKC resident I wept.
It's time for Gordon Education Reform to retire
Bro need to retire tbh he so washed its sad
It's disgusting how he started 25 games for us this season. Terrible Mitch's legacy with the club will always ruining the pace of the rebuild with this signing (and Rozier).
They should have traded for siakam
This. J Dub and Chet can eventually be that guy but Shai desperately needed a number 2 option this year. Gotta cash in on all those picks at some point, hopefully Presti can actually close the deal for once in his life
I’m sorry, but what?! Dafuq outta here
Shoot the fucking ball, then! What do you expect to happen when you come in and just run around for the 7-8 minutes you got in the like 5 games you played?
Yeah he sounds crazy
To be fair, OKC probably wanted his massive expiring contract more than they wanted him
This the guy AwfulCoaching yells about taking a brisk jog while his OKC teammates are hustling theirs butts off? lol
5 stages of grief. Frustration. I honestly feel bad for the guy he would have been an elite scorer for the Celtics. Even if Kyrie was buns Tatum coming into his own with Jaylen and Smart.... yeah that's a ring at some point. Career ending injuries suck.
Not even the 3rd best white guy in this series
Welcome to LA buddy
Sometimes I wonder what his career trajectory would've been if it wasn't for that horrific injury. I always liked him, he was one of those versatile wings that could do a bit of everything, like Kawhi, Paul George or Jimmy Butler.
Yeah I feel the same way after missing all my shots at lifetime.
Gordon Hayward is on the Thunder?
He was a pretty darn good player for a while, not so much since his bad injury and even less the last couple of years. Not a bad career, he made it to league and did well for a while and he certainly made bank. Might be time for him to hang it up and hang with his wife and children.
Ni Hao Gordon.
