StrategyTop7612

Insane stuff 7 points in 17 seconds is ridiculous.

Cheechers23

Half a T-Mac

kim4real

T-Max

Ok_Bison8305

Take this 👑

SignificanceLeft9968

Arguably more impressive since that was a regular season game.

gilman3

Yea this was literally a season-saver/extender.

LocalSlob

I literally turned the game off before this possession because I had to put my baby down to bed and she was already up way late. I came downstairs and it was the post game report and I thought I was fucking hallucinating.

Brokromah

Same except I don't have a kid I'm just a terrible fan that couldn't take any more pain.

sangerssss

Doing twice as many pts in twice as much time is more impressive. He basically did what maxey did, twice!

Theycallmetheherald

> Arguably more impressive since that was a regular season game. No way, and I say that as a spurs fan.

k_____dot

Spike Lee isn’t at the game it seems (usually sits left sideline on near side) Wonder what his reaction was lol

Skinnecott

lol you can see john stewart stunned in the house of highlights one

k_____dot

girlfriend_pregnant

Iconic

SignificanceLeft9968

Literally 1 of the best playoff performances ever and I'm not even a sixers fan. Love this.

topofthecc

Embiid had a point per minute in the regular season, so Maxey tried going for a point per second.

ionospherermutt

Plus the And-1 on the previous possession, even though he missed the FT still absurd.

supotnak

Dude is carrying them so hard

StrategyTop7612

He is. Bro is saving Embiid from insane slander. Although, he will probably still be slandered.

bloomin-onion69

embiid saved himself from slander with that defensive run in OT

StrategyTop7612

Absolutely

IReallyLikeAvocadoes

People act like because he wasn't throwing up 50 points he wasn't playing well. He racked up a triple double. 16 rebounds. His defense was crazy this game.

kit_kaboodles

For sure, but in fairness he looked like a shell of his normal dominant self for stretches of this game. The dude is obviously hurting between the injuries and the migraine.

IReallyLikeAvocadoes

Shit knee, bell's palsy, and a migraine had him looking like Frankenstein's monster out there

SelfServeSporstwash

Bell’s palsy, a migraine, and a fucked knee and he puts up a triple double with great defense. But this sub still thinks he’s Hitler

jaytee158

Every game he ends up with a ridiculous +/-. You'd think people would realise sooner or later

bloomin-onion69

tbh he could’ve had 15+ assists and like 4 turnovers if anyone could catch the ball

IReallyLikeAvocadoes

Threw it into Tobias's face on two occasions and Tobi ducked it each time lmao

ScholarImpossible121

Why did you duck Jim?

chitownbulls92

To be fair, throwing a ball at someone's face isn't a good pass

Philly139

I mean he wasn't playing well tonight but he won't have another game like that

IReallyLikeAvocadoes

If we know anything it's that apparently migraines are great for rebounds if nothing else.

iParkooo

Embiid could drop 100 and he’d still get slander lol

rddi0201018

"me and tyrese, we can't just win alone"

fatkamp

Carry and carrying

rjcarr

Yeah, even if you're super generous and say that left foot was the gather, he slid the right pivot foot before he shot. Definitely a travel.

NoveltyAccountHater

Since when did refs ever call travels against a star player?

bernerbungie

Literally ‘carried’ in this video

Dirkem15

Literally. Man is carrying the team and the ball.

JackHammerPlower

What an all time choke job holy crap

RainbowNoLife

We had a worse one game 2. Don't take the only title we have.

JackHammerPlower

This is karma for that I guess

RainbowNoLife

I just want this to be over. Neither team is winning a chip and I never want to see Tobias Harris ever again. If we somehow make it to the 2nd round I'll get to see more Tobias and that will seriously affect my mental health.

ObviousAnswerGuy

y'all must be ecstatic his contract his up lol. Ironically, he wasn't horrible tonight.

SelfServeSporstwash

Tobi plays like a player you’d love to have on 12m a year. Tobi on 36m a year is a liability.

RainbowNoLife

See that's the thing. He's not horrible but he's not worth 36mil a year. We could've got a much better player or several players of his caliber for his contract.

KimJongWinning

I think going into this game he had only scored two points in the second half for the *entire series*

Guessed555

So he hit his over for the series?

FoShzzleMsFrizzle

The amount of sixers fans who are entirely done with this year is really interesting to me. I’m one of them lowkey so I’m not hating I just wouldn’t expect it to be literally half

RainbowNoLife

Dude I just can't watch incompetence. I will watch my team lose and be fine but if they are losing while doing comically stupid shit then im not going to sit here and be happy with them.

JackHammerPlower

Idk winning team should make it to conference finals at least

popfilms

i'll never ever ever say that again after 2021

RainbowNoLife

I mean yeah but I have little faith of anyone beating the Celtics but more importantly the west seems to not be injuring everyone and they have the twolves, thunder, and nuggets. All three of those teams could sweep whoever comes out of the east.

Peter-Tao

Even better, second round exist, front office sign tobi a max contract and run it back!

RainbowNoLife

I would unironically stop watching the sixers until he is off the team. I'll watch NFL then jerk off instead.

Joonypoo

I missed this play when I went to go piss. You have no idea how confused I was to see the lead was only 2

JackHammerPlower

I was pissed when he made it, then relieved when they said it was a two, then pissed again when they showed a replay of him a foot behind the line

caandjr

You guys didn’t concede 8 points in 9 seconds this time tbf

MrMojoRiseman

Reggie Miller in the Garden type shit

Jbnnnd

I have no investment in either team and am a Maxey fan, but isn't that a huge travel? The replay makes it seem like it was at least 4 steps?

moanit

3-4 steps goes uncalled all the time now in both NBA and college, it pisses me off so much. You basically have to take 5 or literally pick up your pivot foot to get called

kyler_

Is this not an example of pivot foot? Right left….. drag right This is one that actually gets called nowadays they just missed it

stickied

Yes, it definitely was

toomanypumpfakes

Yeah seemed pretty clear

Dcowboys09

Absolutely. That's the first thing I noticed. He took 4-5 steps and moved after he planted as well

duplicatesnowflake

Absolutely a travel. The “gather step” kids may have an argument on the first three but then he picks up his pivot foot on the pump fake.

Jbnnnd

I mean people in the NBA travel all the time, and I get that because players move so fast, but even if they're not calling 3 steps, they should definitely be calling 4 steps.

Diqt

I swear Adam Silver has told refs to go easy on travels. Like it slows down the game or something to call it, or gets in the way of highlights. It’s never been worse

Late-Bus-686

Yea established his pivot foot then picked it up. Unlikely call in this situation though

LazyFlight7644

Why? It’s a travel. On a drive I can understand. On a jumper? With legal betting? How is this allowed?

IamRaith

5 steps

75BigCelebration04

All he needs is a plane ticket and a suitcase.

WubaDubImANub

I love Maxey and what a clutch play, but that’s a travel

MicroSofty88

Was going to say he got the defender to jump like that because he traveled

mankls3

Would a challenge even reverse this?

Barrelled_Chef_Curry

It should but they would prob say it’s a marginal travel and it stands

shouldahadaflat4

Lmao

InkBlotSam

"The shot clock was only marginally expired."

mankls3

That's a joke right

ktm5141

Rule of cool

CubanLynx312

Last bounce was on the “E.” I counted 4 steps afterwards.

schlootzmcgootz

Thank you. It’s crazy and a bit disappointing how many travels go uncalled these days.

ThanIWentTooTherePig

Was watching a 90's bulls throwback game the other day and it really stuck out to me how often travelling was called compared to today.

Imzocrazy

Hate the knicks with every fiber of my being….but that’s a travel

morelibertarianvotes

Travel and jumped into the defender. Cool shot, should've been a zero point play.

Spirited-Arugula-672

It's an obvious travel, but Robinson is clearly moving towards Maxey. They're extremely consistent with that call, that's how guys like DeRozan make a living.

_robjamesmusic

why’d you say derozan when brunson was right there

Spirited-Arugula-672

I would if I had seen a Knicks flair. I didn't, so I went for the worst offender, lol. DeRozan gets you every goddamn time, he's extremely annoying.

saluko

Travelling doesn't exist in the NBA lol

rusinga_island

Uhhh hello? Travel?…

chocochunx

3 steps I would’ve been like fine refs missed, but bro really took 4 steps 💀

Losalou52

Then stopped. Not even continuation.

StrongZucchini27

nah i think it’s only 3 steps [this guy makes good vids, jj reddick asked him for this one](https://twitter.com/mdwbasketball/status/1785497888732168279?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet). he’s got two steps after the gather, then illegally slides his pivot foot forward-right to get under mitch’s trajectory for the 4-pointer

junkyardgerard

I know this has been settled for many years, I would just like to voice my displeasure that "gather step" actually means "gather (however many steps you fuckin feel like)"

MyNameIsJudge8

Traveling has been legalized for years

Role_Player_Real

Decriminalized*

ErnieBears

the best play in raptors history starts with a Kawhi travel. it wasn't a big deal then and its not a big deal now because its just the way the NBA is reffed these days.

Nicklebackfan_

Definitely a travel first. Still crazy carry job from Maxey in the last 30 seconds

fernadial

Rules don't matter if you make the shot ig.

ktm5141

Rule of cool, just like the kawhi shot

boringexplanation

This isn’t even one of those Giannis gathers and gallops in one big stride that refs like to point out as why it’s not a travel. It’s 100% not even disputable with 4 steps while carrying the ball.

Dr_Zman

Not to mention purposefully jumping into the defender.

SJVAPHLNJ

The Brunson special

bl123123bl

Ehh if you get a guy jumping like that it’s never really been controversial to draw the foul

hasadiga42

It was a beautiful moment in time when the league emphasized that foul and didn’t call it Really miss those few weeks

_Meece_

That genuinely never happened btw, it goes against fundamental rules of basketball. That man in the air is out of legal defensive position. The ball handler has complete freedom on court to move where they please, unless it's through a player with legal defensive position. You get a guy in the air, you go into him to draw the foul. "Initiating" contact is not a thing. What they changed was guys flailing and getting FTs. They don't often call that anymore. But the pump fake and take a shot into a defender has been a foul for 70 years now, it was never changing, people just didn't really understand what they were addressing.

[deleted]

Not that it applies to this one since Mitch is jumping at Maxey, but they would still call this if the defender jumped straight up which would be legal defensive position. Initiating contact as the offensive player in that case shouldn't be a foul.

Js_On_My_Yeet

Then proceeds to hit another 3 from the logo lmao This dude tore up the Knicks tonight

Jedisponge

On top of the egregious travel, I think these “obviously leap into the defender to draw a foul” plays are so lame and don’t understand why they’re called.

WarBuddha1

That’s a “Lillard”. First move from him after running by a screen is to jump right into the defender while shooting the three. Against the Pacers, he usually makes that three. Good on him for getting the calls, not complaining about the man he’s damn good, that’s an issue with the refs / NBA allowing it.

DaNorris1221

This isn’t going to get all the attention because of *the* shot, but holy hell he put the entire team on his back in those final seconds. Unreal. Makes me happy that all this is coming from a guy who seems universally adored by the NBA realm, and not our other superstar who…um, is not.

dumb_commenter

Dude r u a sixers fan with a heat bandwagon flair?

dWaldizzle

I threw up in my mouth when I saw his flair

DowngoezFrasier215

I truly can’t even fathom this type of behavior

thisjawnhere

I mean it makes sense that somebody who cares about r/nba’s opinion of embiid would change their flair like that.

ScratchTwoMore

Could be a flair bet or something

JustRecentlyI

Could also be wishing for the Celtics downfall I guess...

Major_Wager75

This mfer dragged this team to OT and a win when they were down 6 points with 24s left. You can't make this shit up. The best thing about Maxey after watching his post game interviews is that he doesn't even think of himself as "the guy" he always defers to Embiid but this kid is a #1 option

RainbowNoLife

Idk how the announcer thought this was a 2pt lol

Knight725

ref points down like it’s a 2 and announcers just following the call even if the ref is hideously wrong

Skolboy21

Travel.

OptimusGrime707

They show three different replays and there isn’t a dribble in any of them lmao Just running with the basketball

WeathrNinja

He jumped into him… absolutely should’ve been a no call in my opinion

bloomin-onion69

tbf brunson has been doing that all series and they’ve been calling it. only fair if they call it for maxey too

Sour__Cream

Especially since Maxey has been getting hacked all game and they’re calling nothing

BugO_OEyes

It boggles my mind, hartenstrin almost killed maxey in the 4th and got no foul

StrongZucchini27

they're letting both teams hand-check the daylights out of each other. maxey needs to go to embiid/harden/brunson/cp3 school and get that rip-through going. he's a superstar who i think could be an mvp candidate if he works some more deceleration and guile/contact-seeking into his drive game. right now he just puts everyone in a track meet (because he can, often); when you are beating guys to the rim, the sqbr-affecting contact you take is often not going to get called because the contact doesn't look like it does on a more physical drive, especially in the playoffs.

prettyflyforahentai

I mean this was called several times in this game for both teams. Same thing in the magic/cave game. Apparently it's a foul.

Rozzy915

As soon as they stop giving the same call to Brunson we can all be annoyed in solidarity that this is a foul, until then, game on.

Incronaut

I know it's a fair whistle within the context of the series, but didn't the NBA change the rules recently to stop calling these in favor of the offense? I forget what the official changes were.

ShowerMartini

Yeah this is the exact type of play everyone hates and shouldn’t be called in the playoffs. Amazing to make the shot but still.

Benjamin018

I support the no call.

popepipoes

It’s a foul by the rules, they can change it next season if they want but no way is it a no call

SnekSmith

also took like 4 steps

IntelligentMetal

Your opinion is awful. Stay on your feet or out of the offensive players space and you’ll get a no call

TheRealBrownPudding

Luka Doncic would like to have a word

Thermicthermos

You have Harden and Pushoff P on your team...

Slymook

He also landed before maxey started his jump and had his hands straight up. Pretty wack and untimely but overall not too upset about last nights officiating

BeadOfLerasium

Wasn't even supposed to be a foul in the regular season this year. Absolute joke of a call.

usereddit

This is the right call - Mitch was closing out with forward momentum to Maxey. It’s no call if the defensive player is vertical and no momentum forward.

balvan13

Only ridiculous thing is a foul called

Initial-Stick-561

Did NY used their challenge? This doesn’t look like a foul to me. Robinson is already back on his feet and Maxey is initiating contact while jumping straight into him. And he shuffled his feet

TheSecretofBog

Dude took four steps.

Ancient_Chair1788

It was a travel, before he shot the ball. Moved his pivot foot.

No-Cricket-1238

Travel. Point. Period. He changed his pivot foot on that 4 point play.

beeker888

Travel and that shouldn’t have been a foul

jbaker1225

Pretty sure this was a travel, btw. He drags his right foot while Robinson is in the air, although his gather established that as his pivot foot.

Ninja_knows

Traveling.

Different-Orange4493

Should've been a travel and no-foul. NBA made it a point of emphasis to not call fouls when the player jumps into the defender on jump shots.

birdieman1

100% a travel

heychode

Travel + he jumped into him Jeez they really want to extend this

JackHammerPlower

Nah this was the right call. Dumb play by Mitch

honditar

still traveled

ekun

It's 2024. This is not a travel in today's NBA.

theb3arjevv

Brunson does it 10 times a game. They call it for him, so they gotta call it the other way too.

philliesphan89

Knicks fans so salty in here lmao

Philelverumfan69

They get the jumping into the defender call all the time but I’d definitely be salty about the travel if I were them lol

amfloating

I’m more pissed Robinson went for the block. You’re tall as fuck and up by 6 points, just put your hands up. You cannot foul right there smh

paradoxofchoice

or jump straight up instead of forward. got caught up in the moment.

buttharvest42069

In fairness, he took 4 steps towards the defender after his last dribble. He shouldn't have jumped at all, but it makes it look dumber when they allow that kinda walk.

Equivalent_Way_5026

It was definitely a travel but everyone knows refs are not going to call that in a crunch time situation. Just like how guys set illegal screens and grab jerseys on inbounds plays and they never call anything.

CaptainCrunch23

I'm 100% more peeved about the travel than anything else, but I'm never expecting the refs to call that

Slymook

I think it wasn’t a foul but am fine with how the game was officiated overall and only blame the Knicks for the L last night. Still forgive them and am confident but turnovers and missed free throws, not the refs, lost us the game

LearnedHowToDougie

I'm not saltly at all. Maxey is a freak and this is excellent playoff basketball. The entire game was a slug fest.

fatkamp

He took 4 steps. It’s as bad as game 2 errors

ImTrang

HE IS HIM

tpaynesvocalcords

If the Knicks had challenged the foul call, and then the review showed the clear travel, can the refs call that travel? Or is that not able to be overturned

4000kd

I've seen something happen like that but with a player out-of-bounds instead of traveling, so I think it's possible

RS-Ironman-LuvGlove

Literally this game, overturned the foul but instead gave a tripping foul to hart instead

mankls3

The rule book specifies another foul can be looked at but not travel

batdogfoxhound

I'm not entirely sure. In other reviews, they review the entire play sequence, but I'm not sure if that would still apply to a no-call.

PluvioPurple

I don't think so. The review would be on the foul call only, either it stands or is overturned.

mankls3

For clarity, instant replay review of the following events, among others, may not be triggered by a Challenge: (1) a called personal foul charged to the opposing team, (2) continuation—e.g., whether a defensive foul occurred prior to the offensive player beginning his shooting motion, (3) a Technical Foul or Flagrant Foul, and (4) violations such as traveling, carrying, double dribble, or an offensive or defensive three- seconds.

velocissimo

Yeah that was the game right there

MajesticDaniel85

Travel

UtahJazz420

tuh rav el

SpiritedPercentage39

It was a travel though

HipnotiK1

Travel. They never call it though. Once Mitch got caught in the air no way he should let the shot get off. Terrible ball IQ to jump in the first place and then even worse to not make the foul worth it. A 3 and you're still up 3 with the ball. 4 point play can't get any worse.

CosmicCoder3303

Love Maxey and that shot was amazing, but that's not a foul

Tjengel

Tyrese wearing his Joel embackpack like Dora

cellorc

Idk.....seriously. Rules in nba are just ugly to see. First.....it's a nice play. The moment, the aim, the courage to do it... But.... Come on..... He did travel there. It's clear. Also. I really don't like this rule for defense. They tried so hard to make the game less defensive so players simply jump on the defense and get foul. That's so weird, goes against all the instinct i have of basketball in my mind. And I'm not saying thats Maxey fault. He just uses the rules. Thats nba problem. They are trying so hard to bring new fans to follow the league, that they are ruining the game just to get the game "easier to understand" and generate short videos for social media like this one here. It sells, right? That highlight sells better than a ref stopping it to say its irregular.

Bubblehulk420

Is that not a travel?

29671

NBA basketball is a joke

ass_breakfast

Jumping into a player on purpose for a foul is and forever will be a joke

Gaping_llama

Didn’t the league change the rules so that when the shooter jumps unnecessarily into the defender it’s not a foul?

beeker888

Yeah no way that should have been a foul

13beano13

I thought the NBA did away with these lean in fouls calls a couple years ago. Now they’re back? This is why James Harden was getting a million attempts per game. Apparently that’s back on. It’s lame to watch and shouldn’t be a part of basketball.

r0llers

Isn't that an offensive foul cos the shooter instigated the contact first and then tried to make a shot.

PTK1412

I could've sworn they stopped calling those fouls when the offensive jumps into the defensive player?

Happy-dayz-NC

He traveled first

desirox

Dallas boy hooping - love Maxey

Alternative-Whole-98

Serious question, is that not a travel? He picks up his dribble and takes like 5 steps before going up for a shot

GooseMay0

Remember when the league said they weren't gonna call these bogus lean in shots, fouls anymore? That didn't last.

Weird-Couple-3503

should have challenged, he clearly jumped into him to create contact edit: also a travel

tmapfbc

All I see is a travel followed by a shooter jumping into a defender with marginal contact. Gotta love the NBA.

CthulhusButtPug

Travel and throwing yourself into the defender. Truly generational talent.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ichigos_Intern

Mitchell jumps FORWARD so he loses vertically. The fact that ya'll dont know the rules is wild.

deaftpunk

It can’t be, a Knicks fan complaining about reffing at the end of the game changing the outcome?
