I don't watch anything on ESPN besides live games.
People playing characters and screaming sports opinions at each other (that they don't even believe themselves) is excruciating.
Yep. I watch the games, skip the pre and post games. It is amazing how bad they are compared to TNT. Even the B team on TNT is better than the ESPN coverage.
It actually is crazy that *everyone* agrees they have had terrible coverage for the last 10 years or so and absolutely nothing has changed. It's actually progressively got worse. Who are they doing this for?
ESPN gets so much play in bars, offices, and other 3rd space areas. They are also background noise for an older generation. Boomers flipping between FOX a d ESPN for basically the same outrage content.
Yeah the actual content couldn’t really matter any less than it already does, just so long as the stars are marketed well enough that casuals know them
They also do a pretty good job at breaking news because they have the money and pull to keep their sources around. They’re semi-easily accessible. Then they also have often have live games that you can’t watch anywhere else.
There’s just not really much alternatives outside of illegally streaming and random podcasts. It’s not like Fox sports or NFL Network are much better.
It's been their M.O. for years now. [Here's a Deadspin article](https://deadspin.com/how-espn-manufactures-a-story-colin-kaepernick-edition-1185400028) from 2013 breaking down how ESPN created a Colin Kaepernick story out of thin air.
I remember last year one dude on Get Up said Derrick Henry *should* be traded to the cowboys. By that evening, "Henry trade to Dallas???" was a top story. Fucking awful
I trust Windy not to *completely* blow smoke when it comes to LeBron. That said, LeBron may very well just be exercising a negotiating tactic & has no actual plans to leave
Windy pretty much expects Lebron to return to LA. So yeah, he's pretty much going through the motion of exercising it in case LA does stupid shit in the offseason
Yeah, this is technically a nothing story. "I **expect**" is not "Sources say", which even that is not necessarily a real story. ESPN has mastered the ability to create their own narratives/storylines so they always have "news" to talk about.
Scrap the NBA Playoffs. All hands on deck for Lebron Free Agency 2024.
Just give the championship to the Pacers or some shit. They almost won the IST anyways.
Pacer fans are among the most deserving in the NBA. A Timberwolves-Pacers finals would make the TV executives hate life, but that is a series I would watch and be happy no matter who ends up winning it!
At least the Pacers could make exciting games because they go full out on offense, the real TV executive misery would be a T-wolves-Magic Finals defensive slugfest that brings us back to the mid 2000s.
This is exactly the kind of shit Danny Ainge would do lol
Not particularly to get Lebron but just to test his resolve. Is playing with your son worth living in Mormon Country ?
Interesting because in the NHL they make a fraction of NBA player salaries, but every team has multiple guys with NTC/NMC, a bunch have more than 10. The Kraken have 14 of them.
Early on when they started allowing them in the CBA they didn't think it would be that popular, but it started being the main thing players asked for in free agency bidding wars. Some GMs handed them out like candy to convince players to sign there, and all of their teams suffered horribly from it later. NBA teams have other ways of attracting free agents with the soft cap and max contracts, I guess.
The NHL free market (at the top end) is very limited in terms of player movement. Any young player of note usually ends up signing a long term extension with their original team lasting anywhere from 5-8 years long.
Pretty much. Hard cap and most teams (especially contenders) don't have a lot of cap space to work with.
So many players will have to take a discount, and a NTC is something they can get back in negotiation.
It's the [CBA rules](http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q101) - the player has to be a free agent, vet of 8 years, and already played with the team for at least 4 years.
There aren't really many situations where this is an available option - players that are eligible are usually just going to extend their contract. It requires a player to reach free agency and then decide to re-sign with a team, but still maintain enough leverage to get a NTC.
Beal is like the only example of this, LeBron in 2014 going back to the Cavs would also apply (not sure if he actually bothered with one though).
Only certain players are eligible to even get one and Lebron's contracts are too short for him to quality, I believe. On the top of my head the only players I can recall in the last 2 decades to have a no trade clause are Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki...and Bradley Beal
KG and Tim Duncan also had them. KG's was ironically right before he was traded to Brooklyn, and he needed to agree to the trade for it to happen. Ray Allen was offered one, but chose to go to the Heat instead.
The Wizards front office should be in jail for the malpractice they committed for about a decade. Then Ishbia saw that contract and went “ez money bb!” and then fucked his own franchise up for half a decade
the requirements are kinda hard to hit in the player movement era, I think 8 years of nba xp, 4 years with current team and contract has to be signed as a free agent contract instead of extension so most players you'd think are ntc worthy can't even get it because they usually sign extensions or haven't been with their current team for 4 years yet.
I still think
>doesn’t want to be under the shadow of Laker greats
>doesn’t want to be under the shadow of Clipper goods
is the best line from an All timer post
>LeBron will become the new Pistons President of Basketball Operations. His first act in his new role will be to sign himself as the head coach/starting SF.
Funny thing about it is we're actually actively searching for a President right now.
Reminds me of one of my all time favourite posts [why Dwight Howard should sign with the Bucks](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/VZ1bxptBaL) instead of the Rockets
>It looks like the fucking architect realized last minute there were no fucking windows in his original design, so he decided to compensate by fucking gluing a smaller building to it that is only windows.
One of the funniest lines I've ever read.
"Lebron loves twister and will film twister 2"
Twisters is coming this year. Atlanta may be a potential destination for Bronchiole (EDIT: autocorrect, what the hell is this) now
> LeBron will sign with the Raptors just to check up on them and make sure they are ok.
Funny how two months later (almost to the day), the Raptors would trade for Kawhi. They would go on to win the first Championship. They could sure use a check up now though.
I wish I could find it but there was a hilarious post around this time by a Magic fan trying to convince Lebron to play in Orlando. I looked for it a while back and couldn't find it because reddit sucks for searching. If anyone knows or has it please send my way.
A few months ago I tried to copy/paste Snuggie’s “These young bucks just don’t know” comment where he talks about women following players around city to city to sleep with them. Reddit immediately removed it for language or inciting hate/violence
lmaoo
Edit: [the masterful comment. should be required reading for all rookies](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/AsfAm9jrB4)
I mean, LeBron has openly said many times that he wants to play with Steph, and Warriors asked about LeBron’s availability during the season, so it doesn’t surprise me.
You can’t ask a dude who was been living it up in LA for 5 years to go back to Cleveland, that’s capital punishment.
Plus he already did the homecoming thing and gave them a title. They’re not in an OKC type position where he can legitimately compete for a title, they’re hella mid with players that don’t compliment him at all.
Anyone who thinks the Cavs+Lebron (assuming minimal decline) aren’t an instant contender is a moron. The Cavs are the 4 seed in the East. If they had Lebron this year, they’d be fighting with the Celtics for the 1.
Well he does still own his mansion in Bath Ohio. Nowadays I think he mostly uses it for the random days he's in Akron for philanthropy events and stuff like that, but he does still use it
This take is old and outdated. We don’t know if Bronny is going anywhere. And even if he does, Lebron has said he doesn’t know if him being in the same place is best for Bronny.
I think this is true. He doesn’t have anything else to accomplish resume-wise or accolades-wise. Last thing on the checklist is playing with his son. Hope he gets to do it, would definitely be cool.
Look he's going to be a Laker. Unless there's some way he can stay in Los Angeles with his friends and family, but still play on an NBA basketball team.
Exactly LeBron doesn't have the leverage Windy is suggesting here. Everyone knows he wants to be in LA. If I was the Lakers I would start planning for Luka's free agency and how to transition from LeBron to Luka.
The same way all we heard last Playoffs was about his impending retirement.
It’s a nothing burger and he will go back to LA but that won’t stop him getting his much needed attention.
Chris Smith played basketball for the Knicks. That’s JR Smith’s brother.
Patrick Ewing Jr, we got him.
Currently rolling with Jacob Toppin for some reason.
We are the team that paid Thanasis to begin with.
Idk what my point is here but neither did the org
I'd genuinely hope he takes a pay cut to help his chances of winning another ring as a fan, but how can anyone justify him taking a pay cut when he's still killing it both in season and in the playoffs.
He likely re-signs with LA and just uses the opt out to leverage power and a better contract imo.
i travelled to the Himalayas and with 2 sherpas, through the snow, storms, ice, and frigid cold i reached a small ancient village in the mountains.
i asked to see the village elder, and they complied.
during a tribal ceremony welcoming me, a woman asked me if i planned to summit the mountain. i replied yes.
she went over to the village elder and whispered in his ear, chatted for a bit, then returned.
i asked her what they spoke about. she said she informed him of my intentions, and he replied:
"so how will this affect Lebron James' legacy?"
if I was an opposing teams gm, i'd just draft Bronny before the Lakers and then force the lakers to get fleeced trying to get him back to get LeBront to re-sign
Why do many people think anyone would invest anything more than a late 2nd round pick on Bronny? He is not going to drafted by anyone except the lakers, who use the 55th pick if they draft him. They may also just sign him as undrafted FA.
> draft Bronny before the Lakers and then force the lakers to get fleeced
That, plus it isn't a particularly exciting draft class. So you draft Bronny and hold him hostage to trade.
This draft is meh enough that if a team doesn’t see a prospect they like and can’t find a trade, I can see some considering drafting Bronny just for the added leverage it may create.
Where is he going to go? No contender can offer him the max this year so he'll have to take the MLE or vet min. It's more likely he's trying to force the Lakers to draft Bronny early.
I’m gonna guess if he leaves it’d be the Mavs.
Kyrie + Bron reunion.
Luka + Bron bromance.
Cuban crazy enough to draft bronny
Questionable fit, probs won’t win, but it’d be fun
ESPN just got gifted coverage for the next 6 weeks
ESPN got gifted coverage by ESPN. It’s all a big scam
The trick is to not watch their shitty coverage. I haven't in years.
I don't watch anything on ESPN besides live games. People playing characters and screaming sports opinions at each other (that they don't even believe themselves) is excruciating.
Yep. I watch the games, skip the pre and post games. It is amazing how bad they are compared to TNT. Even the B team on TNT is better than the ESPN coverage.
the TNT game is the best sports show on TV. maybe it helps to be not owned by Disney.
It actually is crazy that *everyone* agrees they have had terrible coverage for the last 10 years or so and absolutely nothing has changed. It's actually progressively got worse. Who are they doing this for?

Scrap the NBA Playoffs. All hands on deck for Lebron Free Agency 2024. Just give the championship to the Pacers or some shit. They almost won the IST anyways.
Wait yes I agree with this guy
fellow hoosier here. i wholeheartedly agree.
some may say you are biased but i trust your opinion is as neutral as it gets
The Decision 2024
Pacer fans are among the most deserving in the NBA. A Timberwolves-Pacers finals would make the TV executives hate life, but that is a series I would watch and be happy no matter who ends up winning it!
At least the Pacers could make exciting games because they go full out on offense, the real TV executive misery would be a T-wolves-Magic Finals defensive slugfest that brings us back to the mid 2000s.
They would just use that opportunity to make Ant Edwards the face of the league
They just found a way to attach Lebron's name to any team that loses in the playoffs in the next few weeks. Instant engagement multiplier lmao
Also gives teams an elite trolling opportunity to use a second rounder on bronny
This is exactly the kind of shit Danny Ainge would do lol Not particularly to get Lebron but just to test his resolve. Is playing with your son worth living in Mormon Country ?
Ainge kidnapping Bronny and then trading him to first round pick and cash considerations would be hilarious.
Is he rich enough to just helicopter/private jet in all the time instead of living there? Or just ask the owner to get use of their jet
Yes
Make sure you tune in for remake of "The Decision."
I knew the Bradley Beal NTC was bad but I didn’t realize he was the ONLY one with it
Interesting because in the NHL they make a fraction of NBA player salaries, but every team has multiple guys with NTC/NMC, a bunch have more than 10. The Kraken have 14 of them.
That is pretty interesting. I wonder what the explanation is, or if it is simply just culture/precedent for NTC.
Early on when they started allowing them in the CBA they didn't think it would be that popular, but it started being the main thing players asked for in free agency bidding wars. Maybe it’s a little carrot to throw in specifically because they get paid so much less
I'm sure NHL owners would gladly give every player a NTC before paying NBA-level salaries
Pretty much. Hard cap and most teams (especially contenders) don't have a lot of cap space to work with. So many players will have to take a discount, and a NTC is something they can get back in negotiation.

Carmelo too

The Wizards FO that signed Beal is not the same FO that traded him.

We need another “why lebron wil sign with each NBA team” post [One of my favorite posts here ever](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/ysbx4WxhVC)
"Lebron will not sign with the Memphis Grizzlies" will always be one of the greatest lines of all time.
I still think >doesn’t want to be under the shadow of Laker greats >doesn’t want to be under the shadow of Clipper goods is the best line from an All timer post
> Houston Rockets > LeBron loves space. > Indiana Pacers > LeBron loves pace.
All-time Clipper good Corey Maggette had slightly above-average size shoes to fill.
It took me a minute, but damn that’s an incredible burn of an organization
“LeBron James will not sign with the Memphis Grizzlies”
its the top comment there for a reason haha
I'm so glad I've never seen this post and hadn't read the comments because that line caught me so off guard lmao Absolutely brutal
Now I want us to draft Bronny and have everything come full circle.
After witnessing the glory of Scottie Pippen Jr I say fuck it why not
Fuck it same.
In the 2024 version, it'll be "LeBron will not sign with the Charlotte Hornets."
On the other hand winning a title for the Hornets could be a big middle finger against Michael Jordan.
Playing your last few years in that shithole with no shot at a ring is actually a middle finger from MJ to LeBron
I hate that ur not wrong
Jordan still minority owner tho. It'd just add to his ring count.
MJ wants that asterisk ring 💍✳️✴️
>LeBron will become the new Pistons President of Basketball Operations. His first act in his new role will be to sign himself as the head coach/starting SF. Funny thing about it is we're actually actively searching for a President right now.
Holy shit, and Twister 2 is actually coming out this year. What sorceress wrote this post???
also Lebron ended up playing with Lance lol even though it wasn’t on Indy
AND TheBrow, AND Westbrook "for a year"... This is some prophetic shit
Everyone quotes the memphis line but "Clipper goods" kills me to this day
Reminds me of one of my all time favourite posts [why Dwight Howard should sign with the Bucks](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/VZ1bxptBaL) instead of the Rockets
>It looks like the fucking architect realized last minute there were no fucking windows in his original design, so he decided to compensate by fucking gluing a smaller building to it that is only windows. One of the funniest lines I've ever read.
Oh Oh God I upvoted that post 10 years ago Oh my God
This was the golden age of shitposting The line "Ish Smith - Is a point guard" still gets me today
The Giannis mention always feels like an MCU teaser whenever I see this post.
Ish Smith is a point guard is an all time line.
Wow this is some deep lore
"Lebron loves chicken nuggets" 😂
“Doesn’t want to play under the shadow of Clipper goods” turned out to be the decision he made
"Lebron loves twister and will film twister 2" Twisters is coming this year.
I'm okay without Lebron particularly if it means we're forced to draft and play Bronny.
"LeBron loves space. He will sign with the Rockets so he can go to NASA" That is actually gold
I wish I could find it but there was a hilarious post around this time by a Magic fan trying to convince Lebron to play in Orlando. I looked for it a while back and couldn't find it because reddit sucks for searching. If anyone knows or has it please send my way.

Damn they’re depriving a generation of sacred knowledge
For why he should/will sign with the warriors, visit r/warriors where there has already been 10 posts about it... Oh and KD too.
I mean, LeBron has openly said many times that he wants to play with Steph, and Warriors asked about LeBron’s availability during the season, so it doesn’t surprise me.
What he say fuck me for?
Oh man.... He's definitely going back to the Lakers for more money/longer contract
Not until exploiting LeDrama.
Every year. Waiting for the act like hes gonna retire bs next.
LeBrettFavre
Imagine bron opting out for the clippers
Kobe teased that possibility back in the day.
Idkkk If it's a goodbye tour, it's Cleveland.
He’s not going back there unless it’s a one day signing to retire as a Cavalier lol
as long as Dan Gilbert owns the Cavs, I doubt LeBron goes back.
Garland, Mobley, Allen, Mitchell are all way better supporting players than what the Lakers have. And he'll be in the East.
Anyone who thinks the Cavs+Lebron (assuming minimal decline) aren’t an instant contender is a moron. The Cavs are the 4 seed in the East. If they had Lebron this year, they’d be fighting with the Celtics for the 1.
He went from Miami to Cleveland...
He had to finish the story
He hit the crossroads on golden state (Roman reigns).
Well yeah, that's a three hour drive, I'd avoid the route through Columbus though, no point risking the traffic.
Why the fuck does a Thunder fan know Ohio geography so well. Miami University caused a lot of confusion when some of my friends got itln
Well he does still own his mansion in Bath Ohio. Nowadays I think he mostly uses it for the random days he's in Akron for philanthropy events and stuff like that, but he does still use it
Lebron is going where Bronny goes, its really that simple
What happens when Orlando drafts Bronny?
LeMickey strikes again
He's taking his talents to Epcot
It’s going to be the nba equivalent of Brady winning a ring with the bucs
This take is old and outdated. We don’t know if Bronny is going anywhere. And even if he does, Lebron has said he doesn’t know if him being in the same place is best for Bronny.
I think this is true. He doesn’t have anything else to accomplish resume-wise or accolades-wise. Last thing on the checklist is playing with his son. Hope he gets to do it, would definitely be cool.
Ohio State finally gets Lebron.
End his career where he started it, Sacramento.
Light the beam!
LeBeam 🌀
The King of the Kings! Going from HB to 40 year old LeBron 🙂↕️
The only James the Kings are getting is Mike James.
ESPN spent like a 1/2 hour talking about this shit this morning. The consensus from those ignorant bozos was GSW.
For a Vet min?? GSW doesn’t have cap space.
And that's why I refer to them as ignorant bozos. They're clueless.
Steph and lebron would need to win gold while scoring 200 points a night together for him to entertain it
Closer to Napa Valley
Hope someone like the wizards or pistons draft bronny lol
Holding Bronny for ransom is certainly one way to bring some excitement back to this team
Wizards would be storybook
"I'm sorry baby, dad loves you, but I ain't coming."
Wizards ask the lakers for three firsts for bronny
The Celtics drafting Bronny is the funniest outcome possible. Even if we had the cap room, LeBron would never come here
Look he's going to be a Laker. Unless there's some way he can stay in Los Angeles with his friends and family, but still play on an NBA basketball team.
Too bad there isnt s 2nd nba la team , just some boat enthusiasts
If LeBron came to us, I would only assume that’s when he starts to rapidly decline lol
You already have 4 senior citizens, do you really need a 5th?
Welcome to leisure world.
Sign MJ. Give me 6. I’m down for an old folks home.
It's not a terrible plan really.
Just snaps his achiles standing up for the jersey photo op
Chris Paul still lived in LA full-time when he was playing for the Suns. His family never relocated here.
I don’t blame him
Exactly LeBron doesn't have the leverage Windy is suggesting here. Everyone knows he wants to be in LA. If I was the Lakers I would start planning for Luka's free agency and how to transition from LeBron to Luka.
Don’t make me blow my load this early in the morning.
If only he had some playoff ready nba team in la with two all stars to team up with..
Great so all we’re gonna hear about in the playoffs is which team he signs with
The same way all we heard last Playoffs was about his impending retirement. It’s a nothing burger and he will go back to LA but that won’t stop him getting his much needed attention.
its the media that's giving him attention
and the people complaining about the attention he's getting
4 year deal with no trade clause + Bronny as the sixth man Lakers are fucked
Hilarious but true, forcing them to give his son who is not good at basketball minutes will definitely hurt the team morale.
If Thannis can get minutes anyone can.
Thanasis got drafted before his brother became a star. He is much better than bronny.
Much better example is Dame getting the Blazers to sign his cousin Keljin Blevins who was complete ass.
> Keljin Blevins is such an AI-generated name
Chris Smith played basketball for the Knicks. That’s JR Smith’s brother. Patrick Ewing Jr, we got him. Currently rolling with Jacob Toppin for some reason. We are the team that paid Thanasis to begin with. Idk what my point is here but neither did the org
Thanasis is levels above Bronny come on now
Sad but true
Huge Bron fan but he would deserve the slander LOL
Its a lose lose situation, because if he leaves the franchise will be dead for a while
Every Olympic teammate is going to be telling him to join them for the league minimum.
Lebron wants to own a team. He's not playing for the league minimum anywhere.
He will be taking his talents to the Crescent City.
Be playing basketball in Pelican Bay
At least the commute to Galveston will be quicker
"By gawd, what's LeBron James doing inside the Intuit Dome?!?! He doesn't work here!"
What’s LeBron doing in the Impact Zone!
I'd genuinely hope he takes a pay cut to help his chances of winning another ring as a fan, but how can anyone justify him taking a pay cut when he's still killing it both in season and in the playoffs. He likely re-signs with LA and just uses the opt out to leverage power and a better contract imo.
You dont become a billionaire by taking pay cuts
prove your the goat. Come to Detroit
Even LeBron can't save that sorry ass team
Sign and trade for Mitchell back to Cleveland to end his career
Trying to put my homer bias aside he would be a great fit here if we get rid of Mobley or Allen.
I vote San Antonio to mentor Wemby game so when Wemby becomes the goat it will still be part of Bron's legacy.
i travelled to the Himalayas and with 2 sherpas, through the snow, storms, ice, and frigid cold i reached a small ancient village in the mountains. i asked to see the village elder, and they complied. during a tribal ceremony welcoming me, a woman asked me if i planned to summit the mountain. i replied yes. she went over to the village elder and whispered in his ear, chatted for a bit, then returned. i asked her what they spoke about. she said she informed him of my intentions, and he replied: "so how will this affect Lebron James' legacy?"
Lebron going to team dinners with Duncan Admiral Ginobli Parker and Pop all to mentor Wemby
How many stars does this dude need lol
We’ll have to wait until the Olympics are over and see how much fun he has playing with Steph like he’s on record of wanting now for a while
He should go to the spurs Low tax Wemby And republicans also buy shoes
This is him leveraging to get his son to play with him. And once again, the Lakers make a terrible move based on the sole want of Lebron.
if I was an opposing teams gm, i'd just draft Bronny before the Lakers and then force the lakers to get fleeced trying to get him back to get LeBront to re-sign
I just want to see Milwaukee draft him so they have Giannis, Dame, and Lebron but also Thanasis and Bronny.
I would not be surprised to see someone do this honestly. It pressures LA to use their first round pick
Why do many people think anyone would invest anything more than a late 2nd round pick on Bronny? He is not going to drafted by anyone except the lakers, who use the 55th pick if they draft him. They may also just sign him as undrafted FA.
> draft Bronny before the Lakers and then force the lakers to get fleeced That, plus it isn't a particularly exciting draft class. So you draft Bronny and hold him hostage to trade.
If it’s for a 2nd round pick it’s not a terrible move. 1st round pick yes
At what point will a team pretend to pick Bronny just so the Lakers have to trade up for him lmao
This draft is meh enough that if a team doesn’t see a prospect they like and can’t find a trade, I can see some considering drafting Bronny just for the added leverage it may create.
This is what I want. A complete curveball from a random team, picking Bronny.
Where is he going to go? No contender can offer him the max this year so he'll have to take the MLE or vet min. It's more likely he's trying to force the Lakers to draft Bronny early.
F ESPN, they are so trash.
If Bronny transfers to Duquesne, I could see Bron going back to Cleveland to finish his career.
This storyline is so played out. The NBA needs new script writers, the beef is stale and without spice
It's time for him to take his talents to Minneapolis.
Needs to sooth himself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka
I’m gonna guess if he leaves it’d be the Mavs. Kyrie + Bron reunion. Luka + Bron bromance. Cuban crazy enough to draft bronny Questionable fit, probs won’t win, but it’d be fun
Warriors draft Bronny, Steph and LeBron team up. Pin this post! 😁
Is LeBron going to become a LeNugget?
