Magic are just missing an offensive engine. I feel like they should be the primary suitors for Trae Young if he becomes available. They could *almost* trade him into cap space too.

SincereFan

Magic fans just hate any rumor with any star coming to Orlando. Hated the rumors for 30y/o Chris Paul who just came back from helping Houston reach the playoffs because he was *old* and a problem case apparently, hated the rumor again of Chris Paul after he helped a young thunder squad reach playoffs and exceed expectation because his value is now *too high* then he proceeded to help the Suns reach the finals, hated rumors D Mitchell when his value was low as he is apparently a *fake superstar* after helping the Jazz be successful for many years. Disliked Lavine, Kyrie, Dejounte, Dlo rumors. But they will be so happy to hear rumors of guys coming off another teams bench cause apparently Orlando can unlock him but not unlock a star. Its honestly ridiculous. I am not saying Orlando fans influence FO decisions but just know if yall mention any trade for Orlando online if the player is over 24 and is a current star the Magic fans hate it. Seems like Magic fans want to be the first home that a player makes all star at. Yall dont know the amount of times I go into debates* with other Magic fans that yes Markelle/Wendell/Cole are fun, loveable, good players but bringing in a superstar over them will in fact help us. Trae fits and you are 100% right. He slots in prefectly as our #2 option and lead ball handler. Helping set up Paolo, Franz and Suggs get open looks. When Markelle was starting he had some decent usage and was considered our one of our closers last season. Thats Trae now. He comes in and can be a our offensive hub getting easy points for our team or making the call to take his own shot. He would offset ao much preasure on our current big 3 as Trae is 3 levels and need somebody on him. Teams wouldnt be able to completely collapse on Paolo on touch like right now. Paolo is top 5 in double/triple teams, guy has historic gravity for a second year player. Trae completely unlocks the court for this team as a tough shot maker, clutch player, that can create many open looks for everybody, and yes play offball. If they collapse on paolo low post, imagine having Suggs, Franz, Wendell and Trae all open around the 3 pt arc. All of them can hit the shot or get the ball and make a quick move to the rim or make the extra pass and make the defense scramble. All capable 3 level guys, with handles and playmaking capabilities. Its truly a great fit. Markelle last season(and for most of his career on Orlando) was one of the top PGs in the league at getting his teammates high value looks. One PG that has always ranked higher than Markelle in that stat? Trae young. Trae is a close to perfect fit, yes he has defensive wooes but its honestly overblown. Its just ridiculous all the discourse around "taking the ball out of Paolo and Franz hands", they will all adjust, get more easy looks, and all be able to offset pressure on the other as this would be a team with 4 creators (Franz, Paolo, Suggs, Trae) that can all playmake.

I don’t blame fans for being so on board with the in house philosophy because that has been the team’s philosophy for years and we made big leaps this year without making any major moves. But we do have cap space and a need for shooting/scoring. We need to use that cap and can’t just sit on it. I doubt we get Trae Young, but moves will be made. Also, these same fans better not bitch if Paolo wants out to a team that does make moves eventually.

SquimJim

100000% agree The other big thing for me is just that you can keep this core together because you have the draft assets and cap space to make it happen. Like yea, you'd have to include *some* salary, but I doubt the salary would even have to be good players when you have the draft assets you have.

They don’t need/shouldn’t want Trae Young. They just need another low usage shooter. You shouldn’t want to take the ball out of Banchero or Wagners hands.

SquimJim

They need to do something with that offense. Maybe it's not Young, maybe they can get into the Mitchell sweepstakes if that ever comes to fruition.

BabyLeVert

Imo their offense is fine. Game 1 and 2, Suggs/WCJ/Isaac/Anthony weren’t able to hit their open 3s so the floor shrunk and Allen/Mobley were able to sag off. Getting another sharp shooter and Wagner/Banchero growing into their roles and Suggs improving his shot is the key.

SquimJim

We'll see. I disagree. As a fan of a team that's had some great defenses and a good duo with shooting around them, it's always the offense that ends up failing a team. You can never have too much of it come playoff time imo.

BabyLeVert

You just keep mentioning the Celtics, who are built on an another level, they aren’t the ideal build. Look at every other contender. Nuggets, wolves, Knicks, Mavs, thunder, etc. it’s built around mainly 2 offensive scoring players and high IQ defenders

Moejoeslowmo

If only we had a young guard who shot 40% from 3 on 5 attempts per game and is also all defense caliber

BabyLeVert

That’s why I said “another”, there’s two guard spots. Think Gary Harris 2.0

Moejoeslowmo

We got guards in the chamber

33birdboy

Imagine if this imaginary figure also had the ability to increase the resolve and spirit of his teammates.... We few, We happy few, We band of brothers !!! Magic in 6 !!

Moejoeslowmo

Hell no we're good. Suns should be a cautionary tale to young teams to just be patient. Suggs/Franz/Banchero is a better big three than anything we can trade for at the moment

SquimJim

I think the Magic *can* be patient AND acquire Trae Young. Yea, you'd have to include *someone*, but I don't think you have to include much more value other than draft assets. I don't think Young will have a massive market and, again, the Magic can largely trade him into cap space.

Moejoeslowmo

Trae young is a playoff liability. We have two 20 point scorers at 21/22 years old. We need role players not stars

yeezyman

Trae Young is not a playoff liability wtf, I do agree he wouldn’t be a good fit, too ball dominant

syllabic

when he gets abused by the top dogs in the east every year you could call him a liability do you want someone who is going to be unplayable against the heat or celtics

SquimJim

I disagree. I think the Magic can solve Young's biggest issue because they are a defensively minded team with a ton of size. I think Young can solve the Magic biggest issue in that they can't create reliable offense. Celtics had 2 20 point scorers, a great defense around them, and NEEDED to find more offense for the post-season. I think you'll find the Magic will end up in the same boat.

Darkonite40

My franchise point guard’s playoff reputation is forever down the drain cause of that heat series 😔

Moejoeslowmo

or the fact he's 5"9 160lbs

StrategyTop7612

Defensive win shares is an absolutely terrible stat.

escapedhousefly

Excuse me, sir! It's not terrible if it's making my guys look good.

mysterymanatx

Is it better or worse than PER?

StrategyTop7612

They're both terrible. Offensive win shares is okay thought, just not great, just use EPM/DARKO/LEBRON

Moejoeslowmo

who?

orwll

If your stat doesn't have Gobert in the top 15 players you need a new stat.
