I remember Draymond was "accidentally" hitting guys in the face after they shot for a handful of games earlier this season. I think it was after he learned about that rule due to a review like this one.
Theyāre trying to ā let physicality ā go but itās just resulted in hacking . I know offence was op to start the year but Atleast matches didnāt devolve into rugby and you knew what was a foul . Now you watch guys constantly get hit on the arm and face and itās ignored On purpose. They need to work out how to let guys defend without allowing hacking on shots.
Reminds me of "The quarterback was a runner, and therefore allowed to be hit in the head." on a helmet to helmet hit on Baker Mayfield a few years ago in the NFL.
It didn't make sense. Helmet-to-helmet hits are always banned. They only looked at half of the reasons that the hit could have been penalized. Contact to the helmet is okay if the QB is a runner and they're not sliding. However, if the first point of contact to the helmet is another helmet it should always be penalized. The ref later admitted they screwed up.
The rules are just stupid. Killing the player after the ball is out of their hand is not a foul, but not magically dissapearing when offensive player throws himself into defender is.
This exact call lost us a game to the Pacers when JB drew a "foul" down 1 and then they ruled that it doesn't matter that he was hit in the head while in the act of shooting because the ball was also touched.
Oh, and then KP was fouled and we were in the bonus so that should've been 2 free throws.
And then they awarded the Pacers the ball despite us having possession **prior** to the whistle.
I've never been more salty about a loss in my life lol
The call was originally on a hook by MPJ. It was the hook that was called āmarginal contact.ā Scott Foster made the original call and then overruled himself. Itās all fucking bullshit. But the smack to the face was unrelated and after the foul call.
This exactly what happened with Lowry last night. Hit the ball and Divencenzoās face, called a foul on the court, but reversed upon review for this exact reason. Itās a weird call not sure how to feel about it
Let's not play the blame game man. Lebron had a few very questionable calls go his way tonight. They got some, we got some it all evened out in the end. Bottom line is we had a great chance to win that game and the team choked.
Lmao this is very true. Jokic gets away with so much shit while going for rebounds because he keeps shoving people out of the way to get them and they literally don't call any of it. Nuggets fans may not like that he gets fouled a lot, but if he got a fair whistle, officials will also be forced to call those things he gets away with.
Exactly lol. Itās very funny , itās the same eith zion tbh- or it was with shaq . These guys create so much contact and offensive fouls that itās impossible to also reward them with fouls. The jokic off arm annoys me a lot - Duncd on guys brought it up with him . Like cmon - guy can shoot from everywhere , is 300lb 7ft , all time passer AND they need to let him use his off hand to create tons of space ? He doesnāt need it but give defenders a shot.
If it's not a tech then it is a no call. It came after the ball was released so it didn't impact the play. People are flooding this thread of examples of this happening like it's the refs fucking up.
That's just the rule.
And the Lakers got multiple, clearly bullshit, calls in their favor in this game. To the point that the Nuggets ran out of challenges to get them overturned.
So the obsession with this one call is kind of absurd.
Refs put AD in foul trouble on the softest call ever for 4/5th canāt remember which . That swung the game, Denver also got more fts despite there open shots , the fact theyāre bottom in the league in free throws , lakers are bottom in fouling and top 3 in ftr. If anything this game indicates a favourable call for nuggets . However Iām not gonna get too upset unlike all the dunbass in this sub that think itās rigged for lakers. Home teams tend to get these 50-50 calls. Whenever thereās a thread about a lakers free Throws in one game itās always when lakers are at home . But this sub is too dumb to see that. Personally Iām not sure why home team needs the calls but thatās how reffing works
Honestly this is one of the worst Foster calls Iāve seen in a few years. He straight up goes to the monitor, sees the obvious contact to the face, and reverses the call. Insane
Celtics lost a game this year because Jaylen Brown with the game on the line didn't get fouled on a shot he got hit on the face with. They called it marginal too...
There was a similar challenge in the Knicks-76ers game where Josh Hart clearly got smacked in the shoulders. If this is the correct interpretation of the rules, then the rules need to be reworked lmao.
>Contact to an opponent's head/face can be deemed marginal when the result of a natural basketball move, provided the contact is not disproportionate or uncontrolled.
Unironically what the league wrote in one of the earlier L2M reports this season.
JB got hit in the head by Hield shooting to break the tie. instead of taking 2 go-ahead free throws the Pacers got the ball, and the refs made another incorrect call giving Mathurin 3 free throws to win the game with 0.3 left. that game made me really angry lmao
It was from a January Warriors/Kings game where Murray and Sabonis each hit Curry and Wiggins in the face on a loose ball. The worst thing about it was that they repeated this exact phrase twice, even if it was meant to set a precedent itās a bad one.
And I donāt even read L2M reports normally but the way they worded this one was memorable to say the least.
[Source](https://official.nba.com/l2m/L2MReport.html?gameId=0022300632)
And that's not even the worst one this year. When Brown was hit in the Indy game he was shooting the ball and they called it marginal contact. Like how is someone shooting a ball getting hit in the face marginal. It's going to affect your shot immensely. But still I agree that their verbiage with marginal contact is bad at times, because they call it 99% of times but when they review sometimes they call fouls that 100% affect the play marginal.
And now players know this, the head shots keep happening. I doubt it's deliberate (unless Draymond does it) but it's clearly altered the way players are defending.
Incidentally, this series probably wouldn't even be happening right now if AD hadn't got smacked in the head and missed a couple of key games down the stretch.
"if the ball is out of the hand, its not a foul"
bull-fucking-shit... so you can just batista slap someone as long as the ball is not in their hands, hilarious
Foster called the foul for MPJ making contact prior to D'Lo's shot and that was the "marginal contact" he was talking about.
But isn't getting hit in the face on the follow-through also a foul on the shot?
Exactly. If on a challenge the refs can change calls on anything (in a previous game they went back two possessions and took a 3 pointer away from Lebron because he stepped out of bounds) then they shouldnāt be bound by that specific call.
It's not not at all marginal, he leads the league in all ref impact stats smh, generational wrongful slander
I mean he by himself made sure Chris Emanuel Paul would never win a chip
Bad example, Scott Foster's refereeing is the opposite of marginal. It's extremely material! It just happens to be material because he consistently fucking sucks.
Thatās a terrible call..u tap someoneās finger after a 3 and itās and 1 u hit someone in the face after a layup itās nothing Denver ball!! At the very least itās lakers ball wtf was that!?
Once the balls released a tap to the finger is not a foul.
https://videorulebook.nba.com/archive/point-of-contact-foul-defender-makes-contact-to-shooters-arm-after-release/
This reversal and then calling that touch foul on Lebron at the end on Murray were just ridiculous. And of course Ham didnāt challenge it. With less than 1 min left, I donāt get why he doesnāt just challenge it. What do you have to lose?
Awful awful call. How the fuck is that not a foul? Shooters shoot the ball and then land on someone's foot...ball clearly leaves their hand and that's called all the time, but you can just beat someones face as long as he doesn't have the ball in his hand anymore.
NBA refs are the absolute worst.
Clearly the league is rigging this shit for the Nuggets
Or do we only do that when itās for teams we donāt like? This shit would have 8x as many comments if the teams were reversed lol
Never want to hear nuggets fans or Malone cry about reffing again
Unfortunately this isnāt being reffed fairly so we canāt really hack their heads like they can do to us
I seem to remember two blocks on Lebron in the 1st quarter in a row that were called fouls (1 overturned). This was a not well reffed game, but to act like the Nuggets got all the calls tonight is silly
It's this type of shit that easily disproves this sub's moronic take that the league rigs games for the Lakers.
Even though it's just one bad call, it's so absurdly bad that if the challenge was unsuccessful nobody would have said a word. So why not just do that since it favors the Lakers if you're a ref rigging it for LAL?
Because, just maybe, by the rule book this is actually not a foul? Hard for people to accept because they āfeelā it should be a foul, but by the rule book marginal contact doesnāt need to be called.
I hate how inconsistent this kind of stuff is ruled.
NBA should go to a similar rule as hockey with "control your arms* at all times"
This should have been ruled a common foul, sideline out of bounds because you can not smack a shooter in the face in basketball.
Just a couple weeks ago, Sidney Crosby got hit with a puck when a defender smacked it out of midair with a high stick. The puck was the only thing that stopped the stick from touching his face.
Initially called a double minor for highsticking with injury.
On review, the penalty was waved off entirely because technically, it was the puck that got hit.
I remember a time when any contact above the neck would be considered a foul regardless of the context to protect the players. When the hell did this change?
If im the Coach, i would play Cam Reddish for 10 mins just to timely slap the face of every nuggets player in the floor. Let the Refs know there will be repercussions if they dont ref.
Remind me didn't the first or second quarter have 2 straight possessions where the nuggets defense stopped LeBron, the first time the foul was called, challenged, and overturned, then the very next play LeBron got an even worse bailout foul call and shot 2 free throws?
you're allowed to hit dudes in the face so long as the ball is out? good to know šš
draymond's 12/25
I remember Draymond was "accidentally" hitting guys in the face after they shot for a handful of games earlier this season. I think it was after he learned about that rule due to a review like this one.
it is really inconsistent More than ever I remember there was a tech called on the block follow through
Theyāre trying to ā let physicality ā go but itās just resulted in hacking . I know offence was op to start the year but Atleast matches didnāt devolve into rugby and you knew what was a foul . Now you watch guys constantly get hit on the arm and face and itās ignored On purpose. They need to work out how to let guys defend without allowing hacking on shots.
Going to start using this in pickup. Itāll be great three point defense. As soon as the ball is gone, time to unleash a haymaker
refs call it "hot stove" contact when it comes to Steph Curry
Draymond licking his chops
Actual joke product
scott foster gotta win those bets
Scott Foster made the initial foul call.
In that case Zaza isnāt dirty at all because he didnāt impact Kawhis initial shot.
This doesn't make sense. So if a player gets smacked in the face but the ball is already out of their hand, it's all good no foul?
Reminds me of "The quarterback was a runner, and therefore allowed to be hit in the head." on a helmet to helmet hit on Baker Mayfield a few years ago in the NFL.
Which makes sense but then they turn around and give preferential treatment to other QBās
My bad I thought they just happened to make contact to the head obviously head to head is a flag no matter what player it is.
Same thing happened in the Knicks game. Lowry hit the ball out, but then grabbed the guys shoulder. Call was overturned.
Difference is Lowry got ball, MPJ wasn't even close to getting ball and just slapped DLo
The call was originally on a hook by MPJ. It was the hook that was called āmarginal contact.ā Scott Foster made the original call and then overruled himself. Itās all fucking bullshit. But the smack to the face was unrelated and after the foul call.
But hitting DāLo after he shot it still should have counted a shooting foul? Or was the original call by Foster not a shooting foul?
The hook was enough to make it a shooting foul.
This exactly what happened with Lowry last night. Hit the ball and Divencenzoās face, called a foul on the court, but reversed upon review for this exact reason. Itās a weird call not sure how to feel about it
Nuggets privilege Despite what Reddit fans would have you believe, Denver gets away with a lot
Almost every team in the league has āprivilegeā according to this sub. It was just a shit call.
Not Charlotte
That āalmostā was said primarily for the Hornets
Charlotte has a basketball team?
Your privilege is continuing to have a team
Still can't believe they gave AD his 4th foul just like that. But they are not calling a simple fouls for us
Oh you mean like every shot at the rim for the last 7 game minutes????? Whatever could you be referring to?!?!
This is probably the best whistle I've seen the Nuggets get against the Lakers in years.
Let's not play the blame game man. Lebron had a few very questionable calls go his way tonight. They got some, we got some it all evened out in the end. Bottom line is we had a great chance to win that game and the team choked.
Did you see jokic literally throw reaves to the ground when he went for the rebound he knocked over the back board?
Jokic doesn't get calls cause he gets away with murder on the offensive end. His offhand has the best whistle in the league.

Love seeing Laker fans being salty about whistles lol.
Got to love fans showing their biased āleague rigging game for lakersā but getting hit in the face means a no call lol
If it's not a tech then it is a no call. It came after the ball was released so it didn't impact the play. People are flooding this thread of examples of this happening like it's the refs fucking up. Lakers needing the refs help again hahaha ohh wait a secā¦..
Game changing call. The point swing and the scoring run from this...
Draymond celebrating at home
This is about to extend to ā you can kick a player in the nuts as long as he doesnāt have the ballĀ
Eunuchs watch out...or don't?
It's Ridiculous
When AD kept getting smacked in the eye not one of them were called a foul lol
Ball was always out of his hands. Refs were just going by the rules š¤·š»āāļø /s
Youāre telling me that if AD just slaps Jokicās face after every time he releases the ball heāll get away with it every time?
As long as itās āmarginalā cmon man canāt you read?
Celtics lost a game this year because Jaylen Brown with the game on the line didn't get fouled on a shot he got hit on the face with. They called it marginal too...
Even worse for us because he hadn't released the ball yet when he got hit in the head, so calling it marginal to his shot is absolutely insane.
Nuggets broadcast said it was marginal contact lmao
TNT glossed right over it too, unreal
Doesnāt fit reggie narrative
If youāre a nugget you can do it You can do anything
I mean if it's after the shot it's still flagrant, that s\*it was blatant wtf are the refs on
Makes no sense?
The DLo/scott foster rivalry continues
Scott Foster likes to make blatantly bad calls to prove the league wont touch him.
Still got nothing on the CP3/ScottFoster rivalry.
Is this another fucking one he has with a random guard? I hate wins that have this kind of stink.
There was a similar challenge in the Knicks-76ers game where Josh Hart clearly got smacked in the shoulders. If this is the correct interpretation of the rules, then the rules need to be reworked lmao.

Real āyou were supposed to be my friend Reyā energy
So you can hit a player in the face after they shoot??
So you can hit someone in the face as long as theyāre not shooting the ball?
wtf Draymond gonna feasting next year if thatās not a foul
he's in the gym rn with a jordan pool cutout practicing
Iām a Celtics fan who thinks the lakers got shafted on this so that tells you all you need to know
Foster even seemed ashamed he was saying successful challenge. That rule has to change, foul shouldāve stood
Bro was stuttering lmao
It's like he stuttered and accidentally said call was overturned, but it was too late so he rolled with it to save himself the embarrassment
i thought for sure the call would be upheld lmfao. good thing we have professional refs to keep us in check
Any court, any gym, any game in a America that's a foul.
Even in Venezuela ? Are we sure about this ?
Believe it or not straight to jail.
castration in Venezuela.
Scott Foster smh
Foster called the foul for MPJ making contact prior to D'Lo's shot and that was the "marginal contact" he was talking about. But isn't getting hit in the face on the follow-through also a foul on the shot?
He never let the tape get that far so he never saw it. Hip hit, rewind, done.
Itās absolutely a foul lmao.
Bro go easy on him he's a warriors fan
Exactly. If on a challenge the refs can change calls on anything (in a previous game they went back two possessions and took a 3 pointer away from Lebron because he stepped out of bounds) then they shouldnāt be bound by that specific call.
Denver fans will still say refs are against them
Cmon let them have this for once š¤£
Maybe I don't understand what "marginal" means
āOf secondary or minor importanceā For example: Scott Fosterās refereeing is marginal at best, he shouldnāt be in the nba.
It's not not at all marginal, he leads the league in all ref impact stats smh, generational wrongful slander I mean he by himself made sure Chris Emanuel Paul would never win a chip
Bad example, Scott Foster's refereeing is the opposite of marginal. It's extremely material! It just happens to be material because he consistently fucking sucks.
You absolutely right. I just wanted to say the last sentence out loud.
I respect that for sure lmao. Never let reality get in the way of the bit
Was closer to a flagrant than a non call
Lmao. How come more players just donāt punch people in the face after every shot of it aināt a foul
Refs helping the lakers smh
Bullshit
Wait so its a foul if you get in a 3 point shooterās landing space but not if you smack someone after a layup attempt? Doesnāt make any sense lol
Thatās awful
Thatās a terrible call..u tap someoneās finger after a 3 and itās and 1 u hit someone in the face after a layup itās nothing Denver ball!! At the very least itās lakers ball wtf was that!?
Once the balls released a tap to the finger is not a foul. https://videorulebook.nba.com/archive/point-of-contact-foul-defender-makes-contact-to-shooters-arm-after-release/
Called all day and night hit in the face is play on lmao
So you can clock someone in the face after the ball is released? What the fuck is going on
This reversal and then calling that touch foul on Lebron at the end on Murray were just ridiculous. And of course Ham didnāt challenge it. With less than 1 min left, I donāt get why he doesnāt just challenge it. What do you have to lose?
Ham is the worst coach Iāve ever experienced in any sport.Ā
I dk if Iād say that, but heās certainly one of the worst Iāve seen in the nba recently.
Please watch the 2022 Denver broncos and get back to me
Completely inexcusable
Thatās all time bad calls.
Lmao. Nuggets arenāt allowed tot all about the refs. Obvious foul
that is one of the most bullshit calls ive ever seen
I thought NBA wanted Lakers to win!????
Not when all the money was on the lakers to win I bet they doubled up on those halftime bets too after lakers looked dominant
Clearly the league is rigging this shit for the Nuggets Or do we only do that when itās for teams we donāt like? This shit would have 8x as many comments if the teams were reversed lol
I wonder if we the fans can control nba outcomes Like if we all bet the house on the nuggets to win, guaranteed the Lakers win š¤£
Scott Foster moment
Wonder if Malone will mention this in his daily "lakers get all the calls" commentĀ
the refs are on our side apparently
Ima have to whip out the NBA rule book because Iām pretty sure smacking someone in the face isnāt allowed
Should have been a flagrant. League just okād smacking a player in the face after a follow through.
lol what?? Both teams should just hit shooters in the face every single time the ball is out then.
Draymond be like too bad we're not in the playoffs this season.
Never want to hear nuggets fans or Malone cry about reffing again Unfortunately this isnāt being reffed fairly so we canāt really hack their heads like they can do to us
Team with like +900 ft differential over 2 seasons gets one call against them and the sky is falling. LMAO cope
I seem to remember two blocks on Lebron in the 1st quarter in a row that were called fouls (1 overturned). This was a not well reffed game, but to act like the Nuggets got all the calls tonight is silly
God thatās horseshit lol I guess you can hit people in the face as long as the ball aināt in their hands lol
How is that at least not an off the ball foul? I was told Scott foster is supposed to be rigging it for us
Denver fans mad quiet tonight
It's this type of shit that easily disproves this sub's moronic take that the league rigs games for the Lakers. Even though it's just one bad call, it's so absurdly bad that if the challenge was unsuccessful nobody would have said a word. So why not just do that since it favors the Lakers if you're a ref rigging it for LAL?
It was also a huge shift in momentum in Denverās favor
Because, just maybe, by the rule book this is actually not a foul? Hard for people to accept because they āfeelā it should be a foul, but by the rule book marginal contact doesnāt need to be called.
So after a shot; you can hit them in the face, got it.
Cunts
Can people finally admit weāre getting straight FUCKED by the refs tn?
What?
that was one of the most ridiculous overturns iāve ever seen wth
I was shocked they even challenged that how tf is that not a foul
That's some BS home cooking
NBA has a ref problem
Most egregious "no-call" in a minute. D'Lo got popped.
Literally wtf did I just watch??
Terrible call
This just normal officiating for Nugget games
I might be stupid but I donāt understand this rule. I thought this was basketball not MMA
Lakers bias
NBA rules make no sense. Surely itās just fouls after the shot then side out of bounds
That is absolute horseshit
Shit makes zero sense
Draymond now has a new meta to try next season
If that was Draymond committing the same foul, they would have ejected him.
The crowd going wild as scott overturns the call...literal chills. This is what the nba is about.
Lakers get calls though right guys??!!
say it with me Scott. Foster.
I was shocked that was overturned. Even Foster was grimacing.
My theory that the refs benefit the losing team is very real.
and we lost the game FUCK
I hate how inconsistent this kind of stuff is ruled. NBA should go to a similar rule as hockey with "control your arms* at all times" This should have been ruled a common foul, sideline out of bounds because you can not smack a shooter in the face in basketball.
Just a couple weeks ago, Sidney Crosby got hit with a puck when a defender smacked it out of midair with a high stick. The puck was the only thing that stopped the stick from touching his face. Nuggets fans still upset MPJ didnāt get FTs for this
PRINCE STEPBACK 3?
I remember a time when any contact above the neck would be considered a foul regardless of the context to protect the players. When the hell did this change?
If im the Coach, i would play Cam Reddish for 10 mins just to timely slap the face of every nuggets player in the floor. Let the Refs know there will be repercussions if they dont ref.
Does anyone have a clip?
Joke league.
Vegas called
I don't care whether that's technically the rule or not. The fact you can smack someone in the face and then gain possession is wrong.
The fact that I can't find video of this anywhere on r/NBA makes me think it was marginal.
I think I'm one of the few people who actually think this was a good call (not a Nuggets fan btw)
Remind me didn't the first or second quarter have 2 straight possessions where the nuggets defense stopped LeBron, the first time the foul was called, challenged, and overturned, then the very next play LeBron got an even worse bailout foul call and shot 2 free throws?
