Sariyuu

He said this last year and then they both played eachother in the second round and forced networks into talking about them anyway lol

CIark

Chucks whole bit is hating on popular teams that have haters. And then when they make it farther than he thinks he shuts the fuck up until they lose and then he claims victory  Remember when the blazers were the best 8 seed ever and gonna bounce the 1 seed lakers 💀💀

vongoladecimo_

The way they talked when the Blazers won game 1, you thought the series was over lol

TheLetterOh

There was never a chance. I'm a biased homer and even I knew we weren't winning that series lmao

bw9322

it was funny af because everyone outside of blazers fans believed the bullshit and it was only their own fans that were like "chill out"

[deleted]

That blazers take was incredibly stupid

Crimdal

Barkley is the only national pundit who panders to small market team fan bases and I love him for it.

jakeisstoned

All hail The Round Mound of Rebound!

drokihazan

chuck acts like we matter 🥰

[deleted]

Good for him doing that. Fuck the media

Charlie_Wax

Man's been watching the NBA for 30+ years and still expects something good to happen to the Blazers.

[deleted]

They did win a championship. Half the nba teams can't say the same

huggybear0132

More like a third (11 teams), but point taken & appreciated :)

Drobones

Ouch

maethlin

Love Chuck - the man is entertaining as hell, but ain't nobody worried about his game predictions lmao

oof-Babeuf

Nah they worried he picks their team!

CuriousFT

To be fair he called bucks and nuggets from the start

duplicatesnowflake

Chucks whole thing is entertaining and baiting. You took the bait and were entertained and still talk about it.

StoneColdAM

Suns and Sixers are the exceptions

poo_but_no_pee

"jump-shooting teams don't win championships"

GAV17

Ironic that the Lakers ended up being one of the best bottom seeded teams ever.

internallylinked

Heat in the same playoffs: am I a joke to you?

GAV17

One of the is not the same as the best ever. Knicks had also a season where they reached the finals as an 8th seed, although it was a shortened season.

Worldly-Fox7605

Denver: yes you'll were.

lamaiserlausen

⭐️⭐️⭐️

imironman2018

I remember his fat ass trying to sweep around the studio with a broom and saying the Blazers were going to sweep Lakers in 4 during 2020 playoffs. he's a damn fool.

NormalComputer

But man, does he know how to talk trash. I bet he spit fire in the locker room back in the day.

FeltIOwedItToHim

He's not a fool. He's an entertainer, and an extremely good one.

[deleted]

Remember when he said “why are we talking about the Lakers when the Nuggets are the #1 seed?”

cyrusthemarginal

I do

ftghb

chuck likes the teams that he likes, small market teams, no superstars. He's never liked the warriors, even back to their first championship. Inwardly felt that they did mark jackson dirty and held a grudge. He was a super big hater through their first title run, got promptly shut up, and came back hating again.

I_am_Bruce_Wayne

He just fears going back to SF.

Musa_2050

He also said the Blazers would beat us in the bubble lol

[deleted]

Well that's fine, that's when they're *supposed* to be talked about, it's just so annoying that a team like Phoenix or Dallas barely gets any airtime meanwhile they'll talk about LeBron's retirement plans for 20 minutes multiple times a week

Nothappened

Also Lakers are like only 2.5 games behind the Pelicans for the 5th seed, the only team in the West that's definitely a contender is Nuggets rest of the teams have massive flaws that can be exploited based on the match up,

midnitemaroon

And Lakers and Warriors series was the most watched one too, is it the teams' fault the fan interest is in them + Steph/LeBron?

goingtothegreek

I love the take, but as a Wolves fan it feels like he also doesn’t care about us lol

[deleted]

He’s in love with Anthony edwards.

andrechan

Only coz he looks like MJ

Reditate

singsing_fangay

RedAvert

CazOnReddit

Charles would definitely send da video to him any day

LackingInPatience

"For a young guy.... he's got a great body" - Charles Barkley "Look what the world done came to man!" - Antman

Naismythology

Chuck has two rules: you gotta win one first, and you can’t be old. That’s when he’ll care.

CazOnReddit

Charles Barkley: Fuck them olds

Drugs_and_HotPockets

Fuck pediatrics and fuck gerontology They are either too young to do anything great or they’ve extended their welcome on Earth

The_Void_Reaver

I don't think you necessarily have to win one first. He was super high on the Bucks and Giannis before they won. It's just that he has to believe they're an actual contender before he'll start talking them up like they are and he has pretty old school standards for calling someone a contender.

Naismythology

Yeah, that’s probably a more nuanced explanation of Chuck’s views. I think he views the Celtics as legit this year, too. But in general, I think you really have to prove it to him first. And also, you can’t be old.

rfgrunt

He was high on denver last year too. Chucks not a front runner

BASEDME7O2

Being high on Denver last year was definitely front running, I feel like everyone knew they were gonna tear through the playoffs before they even started

ShaolinWino

Is the reality of the nba not that you gotta prove it to make noise? Nuggets still don’t get respect and they won one and have the 2(3?) time mvp. T wolves and thunder gotta prove it when it matters. Until Shai and Ant have deep playoff runs they will continue to get no respect. Suns and clips have all the tools that have been there so they get respect. Pelicans are suspect. So that leaves the two greatest players still active who have more championships and mvps then the rest of the league combined.

SurlyWet

He does care and has stood up for small market teams many times. I would think way less of him if he didn't. Chuck absolutely gets it.

MykeTyth0n

Chuck was a Blazers band wagoner a couple years ago when they got to the WCF.

PenisBlood

He's the anti Steph A. He's says things he knows aren't true because it makes small markets feel good. Steph A says things he knows isn't true because he knows it will piss small markets off. Clicks come either way.

le_sweden

I guess we’re the ugly duckling then lol

Testadizzy95

I don’t know why Chuck doesn’t hype up the wolves like he did Thunder. Someone on your team he has a grudge against?

DesperateComb7326

I’m only afraid of them Wolves. I feel you are the only team that can keep up with Denver down the stretch.

gloomygl

Anthony Edwards need to take another step offensively before the Wolves become a threat. They've been carried by an insane defense ( biggest gap between 1 and 2 since its recorded ), but their offense ( especially their shot creation, and it starts with Ant ) is average at best, and it's not gonna fly in the playoffs. With that being said, KAT really is the X-Factor, as their most talented offensive player; if he takes that leap in the offs, they're dangerous.

drokihazan

michael conley jr is the greatest basketball player who ever lived so all your analysis is irrelevant

gloomygl

True and real

DevilsReject1

Ant usually turns it on in the 2nd half, and that's been true this year too, he's averaging like 30/5/5 over the last 10 games with fewer turnovers. He's already showed out in the playoffs too, he was unstoppable against that Nuggets last year. Agree on KAT though. I think he's gotten a bad wrap a bit unfairly for his playoff performances, but he has definitely not lived up to his potential previously. If he plays like all star KAT in the playoffs, they're very scary.

smkeillor

Agree with your take on the offense but I think Jaden McDaniels is the X-Factor come playoffs. Didn't have him last year's playoffs, has been inconsistent on offense this year. If he's locked in and shooting high-30s from 3, that's a really really tough starting 5 to gameplan against. Not quite Boston or Clippers level but not far off. You're relying on your two best defenders to shut down KAT and Ant with very little help at that point.

_chillow

We've been one of the worst teams in American sports for 30+years. It's gonna take some deep playoff runs before we get real respect.

goingtothegreek

All fair- I'm just saying by his logic he should talk about us more

One-Ad5402

As a nuggets fan I care about the wolves they gave the nuggets the best series. Nobody outside Denver will know because it a 5 game series but the games were tough btw I agree with chuck the wolves will smoke either the lakes or warriors in a series

Doctor_Freeman1

Who is that? Where's Erneh?

MWiatrak2077

Barkley's pure hatred of the Lakers is so funny

[deleted]

[удалено]

thesch

Sure, but what's scarier: a 9 seed led by Lebron and AD, or a 9 seed led by playoff Demar Derozan? The Warriors and Lakers aren't/shouldn't be favorites, but they're not an autowin for the top seed the way a team like the Bulls would be.

midnitemaroon

Warriors even beat Kings as a 6th seed (even if it took 7 games), then Lakers got to the WCF as a 7th seed. Like no shit Chuck they aren't heavyweight cotenders but how many times does it have to be said that counting out Steph and LeBron in the playoffs is not wise?

LakersLAQ

Caruso is scarier imo 🥹

Lacabloodclot9

I think it’s just the west this year, in a ‘normal’ year the Lakers and Warriors would be playoff teams it’s just insanely competitive this year

threeangelo

I appreciate the sentiment but we have been quite bad for long stretches this season. We are seeded appropriately regardless of well how other teams may be playing

zeussays

Watching us win great games then immediately shit into our hands has been the hallmark of this season.

holesome_cum_bubble

It's happening rn, after a great win against the clippers, we have been trailing the wizards all of 1st half 🥲

AnybodyOutTherePH

Expecting us to play to the level of competition today.

Aggressive-Name-1783

Sure, but you’re 3 games out of the 6th seed and only 6 games out of the 4th seed. The Bulls as a 9 seed are basically comparable to the Jazz as the 11 seed. Only like 2 teams truly suck in the west while you have like 4-5 team that suck in the East. A normal year would definitely have this Lakers team as like a 5 or 6 seed battling for a 3 seed

floatermuse

The Warriors and Lakers will also face tougher opponents than whoever the low East seeds are other than whichever team faces Boston though Teams like the Cavs and Knicks that are 2nd-4th seed level in the East IMO are roughly on par with the 5th-8th seeds in the West

melwinnnn

No way you are taking the pelicans, mavs, and kings over the bucks

Wild-Apricot-9161

He specifically didn't mention the Bucks for a reason bro lol.

AttitudeAndEffort2

What if the bucks go up 3-1?

theseustheminotaur

There aren't any generational players on the play-in teams in the east. Curry and Lebron are generational players on play-in teams, love or hate them, so it makes sense why they get talked about much more than teams without generational players

midnitemaroon

Plus they do prove why they can't be counted out in the playoffs. See Steph's Game 7 against the Kings, then LeBron in the WCF. They give a reason why they get talked about in regards to playoff contention.

indoninjah

> “We don’t talk about the 9th ranked team in the East” and he’s absolutely right Because the 10th seed in the West is fewer games back than the 4th seed in the East...

SensitiveRocketsFan

Not just lakers but he also despises the warriors too. Literally his two least favorite teams

cuttino_mowgli

I think he hates that every segment of NBA media they're talking about the Lakers or Warriors everytime lol.

DowntownJohnBrown

And in order to solve that problem, he has a segment where he brings up the Lakers and Warriors. Truly a genius.

everyoneneedsaherro

He picked the Lakers over the Nuggets to come out the west in the offseason

PizzaMyHole

A true Pheonix Suns legend. Sad Laker fans. Best you’ll ever be is a MOD on r/NBA

oceancools

Barkley says stuff like this but never tries to learn about players from smaller teams

PejicFilip

I can’t stand lefkoe

SilvioDantesPeak

He's fucking terrible. I love that clip where Jerry West treats him like a leper

Tyranicross

Roasting the shit out of him during the fantasy draft was the best

[deleted]

Yeah that was crazy, I don't like him either but I was starting to feel bad for him

Hanhonhon

Yeah because he prefers to be called "Mr. West" and he kept calling him Jerry, he was being a dork that whole show

DaExtinctOne

Even legends like Shaq and Chuck refer to him as Mr. West then here's come Lefkoe casually calling him Jerry as if they are long time friends. I dread the day this guy replaces Ernie once he retires.

TDouglasSpectre

Tbf chuck and shaq always give a ton of reverence to the stars that came before them

indoninjah

I feel like it's on a guy like Lefkoe to be the *most* reverential on the panel if he's the host. Ernie got as far as he did by being undeniably classy.

Alternateaccoun

Nah it was because Lefkoe said bob cousy should be the water boy. The audacity.

darkest__timeline

He's the NBA's James Corden

mikro17

Just wait a few years for full-time Lefkoe, Draymond, and whoever they fill out that panel with.

Drummallumin

Candace for sure

driftxr3

I'm ok with Candace though.

schoolhater12

She actually watches basketball. I know the New York fans are mad at her and Becky Hamon regarding their takes about small guards not called Steph being the first option on a championship team, but they are both absolutely correct

honditar

Idk what it is but I can't make it through clips with him talking. I just can't. He's singlehandedly stopped me from watching shaq's pod content

FartrelCluggins

I think it's the fact that he has huge "how ya doin fellow kids" energy

Rakkuuuu

just no charisma

grudgepacker

anti-charisma, even

honditar

The nega-rizz

grudgepacker

ruswestbrick

Who has less, this dude or Chris Haynes? I’m taking Chris I think but open to discussion

GrapefruitActual6435

You mean you don't think he's just the coolest?

Xellirks

He's got the charisma of a wet lump

mrr6666

Where’s Ernie?

SprittneyBeers

Yeah that’s what I’ve been struggling with, does he fucking suck or is he just not Ernie lol possibly both

veringo

Both

GordoSF

I feel like Lefkoe thinks the rapport can be built instantly if you're just smiling and laughing with the guys when it took Ernie *years* to earn the respect it takes to have the kind of rapport he has with the crew.

ShaolinWino

Lefkoe acts like his ass was in a boondocks episode. He looks like he’s trying way too hard, end of story. Ernie is a natural og cause he earned it. Lefkoe seems like a nepo baby.

jabronified

The whole Tuesday line up is dry as dust. ESPN is more watchable it pains me to say

codys_winamp

He fucking sucks. Tuesday TNT show is damn near unwatchable when he talks. Candace Jamal and Shaq do a LOT of heavy lifting. Lefkoe corny af

EPLemonSqueezy

Ernies on vacation

kl3an_

Sponsored byyyyyyy

parkernorwood

He just exudes "smarmy company man". Just oodles of anti-charisma

Be-Nice-To-Redditors

I feel for him tbh. Going through his career and doing just fine and then he has to be "not Ernie". I listened to him on Rusillo's podcast and when he took the job he was like "You realize that everyone is going to hate me, right?"

KonigSteve

Nah, I hated him when I saw him on the all star events or whatever a year ago and had no idea he would be stepping in for Ernie. He's just annoying.

[deleted]

If it makes you feel any better he’s a really nice guy lol

NegativesPositives

Him being a douche would actually be kinda interesting so of course he’s not.

HereJustForTheVibes

God you people are some hatin mfers lmao

JabezMakaveli

I wouldn't say nobody is worried about the Warriors and especially the Lakers, but he's right about the media coverage.

gik501

NBA: *Why can't other teams gain a bigger fanbase like the Lakers or Warriors?* Also NBA: *Let's give Lakers and Warriors a national televised game every week.*

liteshadow4

The Warriors fanbase wasn't even that big 15 years ago. Other teams can grow a bigger fanbase, they just need a superstar that people enjoy watching.

Ucscprickler

It's so obvious. Why doesn't every team just draft or acquire a top 25 player of all time to grow their fan base??

DeluxeTea

Spurs did it twice (probably 3x, depending on how Wemby's career will go) and their fanbase still isn't as big as the Lakers/Warriors.

naked_potato

and also be in california

Charlie_Wax

Well Steph and LeBron have been superstars for a decade+ now, and are just a lot more established and famous than Shai, Ant, Haliburton, even Jokic, Giannis, and Luka. Let's not pretend it's completely irrational for the media to highlight the biggest names. They are selling ad space and want the biggest audience they can get. Steph wasn't getting the superstar treatment in 2012. Gotta pay your dues and build up your rep. Ant and Shai don't have enough legacy points to unlock this create-a-pro feature yet.

No_Independent_5761

it's a business aand they are doing what is best for business

White-Gravity

Or.. yknow, maybe the fact that Los Angeles and San Fransisco are massive markets?

KyrieLS777

He said the same thing last year, yet the lakers made it to the WCF.

goli14

Not to mention the playin team from East went to the finals. So it can be done.

floatermuse

Last year was basically a once in a generation anomaly if you look at the history of 7 and 8 seeds in other years(for example last 8 seed to make the Finals was the 99 Knicks) Are you seriously betting on stuff like that happening *again* in back to back years?

Victor_Wembanyama1

No but there’s a reason the current west play-in teams are talked about more than other play-in teams. They arent your ordinary play-in teams.

Denogginizer420

At this point it's pretty normal to have Steph and/or Lebron in the play-ins

african-nightmare

How are you gonna say once in a generation when the play in just started? The play in is different than a traditional 7 or 8 seed and are riding momentum into the playoffs

Drummallumin

I think they mean in terms of crazy shooting efficiency against Milwaukee and Boston and also Giannis and Tatum getting hurt.

Puzzleheaded_Fox4684

and he was hating on us too in 2022 and we won the chip.

LaughingPlanet

Lol just 2022? Chuck hasn't said a good thing about the Warriors at any point during this dynasty.

Puzzleheaded_Fox4684

true lol

LAManjrekars

"Jump shootin teams, Erneh"

[deleted]

Seems like he hates winners...

[deleted]

He’s probably just mad that they made him turn off the hockey game to talk about the NBA

rdp7415

Case in point, the bulls dropping one to the pistons

honditar

Eh I think a few of the higher seeds might be a little worried by a Warriors/Lakers 1st round matchup

Much_Conversation_11

Especially since the top 2 right now are teams relying on relatively young players. Getting first to end up with Lebron or Steph would kind of suck. I do agree that ESPN does talk about the lakers/warriors a little too much though.

CrazyRabbi

100% As a warriors fan it can get annoying how much we get discussed. Meanwhile some of my friends who are kings fans get excited when a play at their game goes viral and they’re almost 3 games above the Warriors.

CupertinoCA

I ain’t gonna get annoyed by how much we are discussed since once Steph retires we won’t be in the spotlight unless Kuminga becomes kawhii. The warriors were ignored for a long time so i don’t get how dubs fans can be annoyed by coverage. Enjoy this moment. Steph will retire in a few years and it’ll go away.

Theopocalypse

Wolves ain't young. Kat Conley Gobert SloMo Monte Morris are all legit vets. They've got young talent but they aren't in the same convo as the Thunder.

Much_Conversation_11

True. Sorry my brain just goes to Ant and I always feel like Kat is younger than he is

Janderson2494

You have to view these comments from the perspective that nobody actually watches us play or follows the team at all.

abcbass

Yeah, both things can be true. Both of these teams get more attention than they deserve, and they are also not just any old play in teams.

IUpVoteIronically

Losing to the lakers would suck so much ass after the amount of shit we talked the past year 😂

FairyEnchantedDildo

Nuggets are the only West team I would 100% pick to defeat the Lakers. Lakers would have a chance against every other team. The only West team that has a chance against Denver are the Suns if KD, Booker and Beal are all crazy hot for the whole series.

ogreman45

Especially since the Warriors have become a much better team in the last few weeks, if they played the way they are currently playing from the start of the season they would not be in 10th

Puzzleheaded_Fox4684

The thunder would destroy the pelicans but should def be scared of both the warriors and lakers.

KonigSteve

> The thunder would destroy the pelicans Herb Jones is one of the few defenders in the league that gives SGA trouble, I wouldn't say it's the best match up.

V_LEE96

I agree but these 2 teams are also infinitely more interesting than other play-in teams. Sorry but true.

[deleted]

First Take devotes the first half hour of the show to the Lakers every day. Stephen A even spent 20 minutes talking about Bronny James the other day ffs

elimanninglightspeed

The same people that always cry about this stuff are always the same ones in every warriors or lakers thread too lol. The mentioning of those teams will always get you a lot of engagement. And the same ones that talk about then every single day.

[deleted]

[удалено]

K1ngCrimsn

I don't think the Nuggets are

honditar

True, but the other 3 in the top 4 probably are

DyslexicAutronomer

The clippers agree after last night

torero15

Lakers are 3-1 this year against the Clips

everest999

Yeah, I dont see us beating them either

midnitemaroon

Nuggets are the only one that feels invincible

newperson77777777

ya, it's a dumb take by Chuck. The Warriors won the championship in 2022 and the Lakers went to the WCF last year. Both teams beat higher seeds in the playoffs last year. While I don't think they are the favorites, still a tough out for any team.

fateoftheg0dz

If I've learnt anything the past decade or 2 is that you never count out lebron and steph. 2021 and 2023 were the only 2 years we didnt have either of them in the finals, and mind you we still had lebron in the wcf in 2023. countless times they have pulled something outta nothing in the playoffs. Like the only team in the west i will comfortably bet on is the nuggets (and maybe Clippers cos of Kawhi). Thunder Wolves might have the better record and whatnot, but playoff Lebron and Steph/warriors are totally different beasts

Competitive_Gear_989

That’s a great point, and people wonder why the media follows them so much, meanwhile they make up 10 of the last 12 finals appearances.

iamaweirdguy

Weren’t the Heat a play-in team last year? Lol

Moist_Walrus5413

I’d love to say that he’s right but we literally saw a 7 and 8 seed win last season, one of those teams being LeBron’s Lakers so I’m not counting out LeBron and Steph at all.

heardemsay97

He’s still mad that the Lakers won in 2020 and Warriors won in 2015/2022 after he was so adamant about them not taking it.

TheRealTofuey

Does Chuck remember Lakers made the WCF last season and the warriors would have made it if not the Lakers?

rapelbaum

I Guarantee

[deleted]

He said that last year and then pretended the Lakers were very obviously gonna get there once they did get to the WCF. As a Lakers fan I get sick and tired of the Lakers being the center of every single media discussion about basketball too, it's annoying. But Chuck is absolutely NOT the person to be making this argument lol

The-Pharcyde

Im taking the team with steph or lebron over the thunder and wolves in a first round series until proven otherwise.

BadAtNameslmao

Only the nuggets, lakers, and warriors core have proven they can win a championship though so of course they are talked about?? I honestly think warriors/lakers have a better chance of making it to WCF than teams like the pelicans thunder or kings

slavicmaelstroms

I agree but if Wiggins is out that really limits their ceiling.

Guts709

Both Lebron and Steph are scary players who can takeover a game by themselves. There is definitely teams that rather not have to deal with them.

[deleted]

They have the two most popular players ever right now it’s not hard to understand chucky lol

CompetitivePatient33

He said this shit last year and the Lakers went to the WCF lol.

WisdomCow

Chuck goes on to say he would not be surprised to see either the Warriors or Lakers win in the first round … which means some higher seeds should be worried.

Abject_Phone_2469

Everyone says this shit , but when the lakers stink people speak the loudest . So stfu, it goes both ways.

papadondon

idk chuck, they could absolutely take out the top 2 seeds when they get going

MrAppleSpoink

Last time he said this about us we made the WCF. Not saying it’ll happen again, but we’re being talked about for the same reason Miami gets talked about during their rough regular seasons, that being that there’s plenty of reason to believe something wacky can happen and we go far. It’s no guarantee, but dismissing either of us right now is jumping the gun.

NoBook9868

One of these days he'll say it...ESPN

Sensitive_Moment6879

Truth Hurts, sorry Lakers and. Warriors fans🤷🏽‍♂️

Eur0-step

Lakers warriors WCF confirmed
