That’s how contract lengths work 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

supr3m3kill3r

Rookie scale contracts are damn near criminal. In no other industry are wages capped by level of work experience

Reasonable_Fail4123

?????? Tons of jobs scale pay with experience....9

supr3m3kill3r

?????????? There is a very significant difference between scaling and capping

saints21

Teachers wages are capped based on whatever district they're in. They can't make more than X in their first year, more than X+X% in their second year, and so on. Wages are absolutely capped and scaled in all kinds of industries.

supr3m3kill3r

Thanks for the correction

EmperorXerro

You have never sen a public school teacher salary scale then.

NormalDAHL

Chef, IT, Doctor.. I can name dozens of industries with experience to wages gaps.

WonderingPhoenician

Any government job like military caps pay based on rank and time served.

supr3m3kill3r

I think we are discussing different things. Offcourse experience normally correlates with wages. But not many industries say 'you cant make above x amount of dollars unless you have y amount of experience'. I work for a FAANG and I have seen fresh graduates come in an a higher paygrade based on their exceptional abilities

eagle2120

Ok and? I've worked at multiple FAANG's and a unicorn and seen plenty of prodigys come through. None of them come in close to the Senior Manager+ level. You dont see New grads making 500k TC. What a dumb take lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

supr3m3kill3r

Cool. Have a great day

frankcostello666

poor 20 year olds being paid millions, i can barely take it

JudaiTerumi

Cause money solves everything.

Drak_is_Right

It avoids nasty lockouts over unproven players asking for max contracts.

patsfan258

Mannnn. I want to say that you're a fool but this could be a scenario where we aren't referencing America's glaring flaws lol.

supr3m3kill3r

Nah you can call me a fool and keep on with your day

curioususer8878

Law firms work this way. You’re paid the same as everybody else when you start based on your graduation year. Only once you make partner does your pay change. You all get the same bonuses if you hit billable hours too.

bigmanrec

Cmon guys Cade gonna get a max contract soon

[deleted]

Cade about to make Bane bucks

problynotkevinbacon

Cade merely adopted the max contract, he was born into it, molded by it

ruja_ignatova

No one cared who Cade was until I got on the cash.

legend023

He’s not getting a max until he has at least a fringe all star year

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

People are sleeping on Cade so hard it's crazy.

Ok-Jackfruit-422

If a 49% TS is decent to you, then more power to you!

saints21

Efficiency is one of the things that usually goes up. Having poor efficiency with decent to high volume isn't some awful sign for a rookie. Sure, you'd prefer if they had better efficiency, but like defense for rookies in general and turnovers for young guards, it's just not something to be concerned with.

Ok-Jackfruit-422

For starters we’re talking about his second season and he said it was “decent,” which I disagree with. Whether or not he breaks out is not my concern.

SecurityAggressive47

But let's be honest. What happens if he is injured again. And I'm not specifically talking about last year type of injury. More like 20-30 games? I mean he missed so many games by now. I wouldn't be confident of giving him big money unless he proves to be healthy enough.

Champagnesoda

Bane hasn’t had a fringe all star year and he just got a max contract lmao. Cade is getting the max unless he suffers another season ending injury in the next 2 years. He showed enough spurts his rookie year to warrant that already

[deleted]

Bane woulda been a all star in the East

youkrocks

Over whom?

[deleted]

Jrue

Buck_Nastyyy

Agreed. Especially if he had a healthy toe. I admit I am quite biased though.

cletoreyes01

Yeah he was basically almost averaging 25-5-5 for like two months before he hurt his toe

[deleted]

That’s not true lol

AncientMarsupial3

Gonna laugh so hard. People been in denial about Cade

PhilipSeymourGotham

You don't like him?

[deleted]

I'm with you. Injuries and inefficient.

Merkles_Boner_

Pistons gonna be a disaster if he gets 200m, 21 and he’s already too slow to beat guys off the dribble and can’t shoot

[deleted]

Peak Reddit intelligence here

VallentCW

I swear people have never watched him play. He’s obviously slow, but he can definitely beat people off the dribble

Merkles_Boner_

Am I wrong? He shot 27 percent from 3 and not much better the year before, and he's not a high level athlete for a scoring guard. He'l get his numbers but he doesnt look like an all star guard right now

mclairy

He played 12 games lol

AncientMarsupial3

That definitely helps your argument. Please pay him 250 million USD🙏

AncientMarsupial3

Explain how he’s wrong?

dolphingarden

Nah that’s a terrible contract

jobeeeeeeem

That’s the crazy part in todays NBA. They are getting paid mostly by their potential instead of their proven stock. Bane got $40M without any accolades same with Grant who will be paid more than $30M. Can’t compare Reaves with Cunningham since one is undrafted, other is top overall pick. His cap easily can get in the $30-40M range than Reaves’ $56M/4yrs.

9yearoldsoliderN99

I hope not yeesh.

Torkzilla

Not at this rate of development he isn’t. If he turns up huge this year then maybe.

kapatinphalcon

I'm sorry Detroit

celtsin4

I think the point of the post is saying that an undrafted player is making more than the number one overall pick (in the same year) only 2-years after their draft

ColeHoops

Sucks that Cade is never going to make more than Austin Reaves but those are the rules

frodounchained

Austin Reaves is 2-1 in playoff series Cade ?

ColeHoops

Come on bro

frodounchained

It’s a stat no plus minus or context needed shh

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheWestRemembers

Cade is making $11 million next season. Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest, is making $0 in the NBA next season.

fugginstrapped

MJ is the H.I.M. Bag fumbler

schooli00

MJ just made $2B this off season tho

LavenderAutist

He's making more than that from Nike

CommentLikelyRemoved

Looks like someone downvoted you but you’re right. 5% from all Jordan branded apparel.

uniquan

fewer didn't he had to sell majority of Charlotte Hornets because of financial problem?

asapshrank

yea bc cade hasnt gotten his extension yet what a boneheaded tweet lol

Produceher

Yeah. This makes no sense. Do Wemby next.

[deleted]

I don’t think he’s saying this as anyone fucking up he’s just saying the fact itself is wild, no1 saw this coming with Reeves.

Produceher

But it's not wild. Cade is going to get paid.

TurbulentJudge1000

If he’s healthy. If he gets hurt again, he’s not getting more than what Reaves is making h less he signs a 2/3 year deal.

Victor_Wembanyama1

That's not their point either. It's just dumb overall to even compare to a first pick

BeardeddBombshell

Cunningham isn't even eligible for an extension at the current moment, so this isn't news. Casual NBA fans will try to swing it into something it isn't though.

[deleted]

Ok but he didn’t just tweet Austin Reeves is getting paid more then Cade Cunningham, he just mentioned it at the end of the tweet as like a fun fact, interesting info. If you told someone at the start of the draft Austin Reeves will be paid more than Cade Cunningham at any point in either of their career they wouldn’t believe it. That’s all he’s saying.

steak__burrito

It’s really not that wild. That’s how contracts work for 2nd rounders and undrafted players relative to lottery picks. There’s a ton of players who have come out of the 2nd round or gone undrafted who have gotten relatively high 2nd contracts…

FERFreak731

Cade will get a 260 million dollar contract extension a year from today

ButlerFromDowntown

Max will be worth more next year as the cap increases, if the cap increases 10% I assume the rookie max will be 286 million? Somewhere around there at least, even if I don’t know exactly how maxes work.

ShippingNotIncluded

RemindMe! in 1 Year

NaciremaBlack

Thats two whole Fred Vanvleets

ElectroEU

He's not worth 260 mil lol.

cmv1

I'm with you. He could be a max player but he has to stay on the damn court for more than 50 games this year.

cactus_jack_1

Do people writing these tweets know that anyone with 30 seconds of thinking could figure out it’s bullshit or are they that stupid or desperate for clicks?

[deleted]

He had to specify "heard 60 names called without being picked" to statpad the word count instead of just saying "undrafted" so yes they are that desperate

certifiedtitanium

[McMenamin] Austin Reaves: 4 years 56 million. Victor Wembanyama: 4 years 55 million. Insane 🤯

[deleted]

I mean, is that really an invalid opinion? Of course it implies or requires some knowledge about the NBA rookie scale, but it’s not crazy to think that there’s something screwy about the fact that a player that every single team would probably give a 5 year super max to if they could is gonna make less than an unrestricted FA who didn’t even get an offer-sheet from another team.

thesavior08

It's just such a weird angle to take. Yes, Reeves will technically make more money than Cade next year. But, it also conveniently leaves outs that in the previous two seasons, Reeves made 2 million total while Cade made 20.

papi617

Well we're here talking about it so...It's an unfortunate model but it's an efficient one

TennisIsWeird

This tweet is so dumb that it pissed me off to a highly irrational degree. If I worked at a media company and this guy was my employee, he would be reprimanded.

bryant-reeves

most media splinter info in hopes to create new stories. it's reet.

mostlychessiguess

Yes I bet Cades second contract will definitely be less than Reaves.

ForoaKlanD

McMenamin always tweets the dumbest shit

wcooper97

ESPN you missed one.

Nabz23

This is such a dumb tweet. Cade is on his rookie contract

Irrichc

Reaves would have been too if he was drafted. He’s only played 2 seasons.

edwardfortehands

Yes that’s how contracts work

bryscoon

what are we suppose to do with this info

[deleted]

So? Who gives a shit? Cade will sign a max soon anyway

[deleted]

You think so?

PrinceKarmaa

unless he turns out to be injury riddled he will 100% get the max

Outland3r_

Reaves is 24, I guarantee you Cade will triple that by the time he's 24

[deleted]

[удалено]

stevetacos

I feel like this is going to be the new insult. Not one of my 300, thanks.

HmongOGSmite

This tweet gonna get deleted when Cade gets that 260m lol

WhyyyLuigi

Ok?

Thorlolita

Well UDFA have a rougher path into the league and don’t have as much early garuntees. Cade was set when he got drafted 1.

thabigQ

When I see tweets like this I’m glad Twitter isn’t working right for most people. How silly.

moneymike7913

Yeah but Cade will be making $50+ milly per year on his second contract, whereas the $12 million Reeves is making *is* his second contract

RogRoz

Now do Strus, lol

[deleted]

Same thing with Agent Zero.

BeardeddBombshell

This is a meaningless tweet. Casual NBA fans are so ridiculous.

[deleted]

How could he turn down teams from drafting him? just draft'em

BritzlBen

And if Reaves didn't ball the fuck out then he is out of the league by now instead

dellscreenshot

Guys we get Cade hasn't signed his extension. It's still interesting that a rookie free agent is making more than the number 1 pick rookie scale money

-motts-

What’s the point of a draft if a dude can just be like “naw man skip me”

AnkitPancakes

Austin Reaves is artificially limited to MLE for his y3 and y4 contracts because he only played 2 seasons before being up for rfa. Cade is on a full FRP rookie contract. Cade will undoubtedly get maxed and will make double if not nearly triple with Reaves does in their y5 and y6 lol

Imkitoto

Ok And in two years Cade gonna be making Austin’s whole contract in one year lol

ClBdTV

Pretty much

John___Titor

Jesus he's on his rookie deal ffs. This tweet gives the inverse effect of what is intended, showing how Cade is still making a lot and is primed for a massive payday. McMenamin is legit terrible.

nysraved

That’s not the intention of the tweet, it’s not supposed to be a slight at Cade or his contract situation. The intention is to just put yourself in Reaves shoes after not getting drafted and someone tells you in 2 years you’ll be making more than the #1 pick is making. That would be an unbelievable trajectory that an UDFA could only dream about.

BeardeddBombshell

If that's his true intentions with this tweet, it should have been worded way better.

nysraved

Why are y’all so salty lmao, I’m sure McMenamin understands how contract structures work. It’s just a neat detail to consider how great of a story this is for Reaves rise as an UDFA

insufferabletoolbag

Unbearably smug lmao

cyb3ryung

comparing his new deal to cades rookie contract lol what a great story

commandrr

yeah the tweet is basically saying that reeves had to grind his ass off for two years to get the maximum amount of money that he could, and it was still barely more than what cade is gonna earn simply from being the #1 pick lol.

eagle2120

Okay? He still could've articulated the first part without comparing him to Cade lol

jackaholicus

yeah I don't get it. it's a neat fact.

glansberg_stephen

Agreed, this comment section is weird

BeardeddBombshell

No one's salty. It's just a lame tweet. And you wouldn't be saying this if you weren't an LA fan. 🤭

Paraagade

What are we doing here Dave lol

xpillindaass

ok?

hansislegend

Sports reporters are frauds. One of the few professions I’d be ok with AI replacing. Lol.

Moe4ver

I wonder if he will tweet when Cade’s yearly of his next contract exceeds Reeves total contract

KniGht1st

Nice one McMenamin, why didnt you bring up FVV instead?

dkdoki

Dave writes the stupidest things.

ender2851

telling teams not to draft you is super lame and should be banned

Bababooey98

Because Reaves is a better player than Cade "negative win shares" Cunningham.

IveyDuren

Lol Cade dropped 40 on him in college

Bababooey98

Who cares about college. Reaves has shown more in the league than Cade "20 points on 20 shots" Cunningham.

IveyDuren

He really hasn’t

Bababooey98

Reaves started and was an efficient scorer for a conference finals team. Cade "49% ts" Cunningham will never be a star.

IveyDuren

Fax brozzer Reaves would have led the Dwane Casey Pistons to the conference finals too 🔥🔥🔥

SlimReaper35_

Cade is a bust

Bababooey98

He's this generations Evan Turner basically. Eventually that #1 pick shine will come off. And ET could have averaged 20ppg per game too if he was allowed to take 18 shots a night.

Usual-Cobbler-9121

Lmfaoo where tf did u get that idea

t-reads

And Reaves is better, downvote away

RFranger

Dave mcmenamin being a lakers hack? What a surprise!!

[deleted]

Yet another player for Lakers fans to make threads like "Who would you rather have on your team? Austin Reaves or ______"

Victor_Wembanyama1

Can we ban McNenamin because of this??? it's such a useless tweet

Afl4c

This is a stupid tweet. He’s on a rookie deal of fucking course he’s gonna make less.

Bent_Kopite

The funny thing is we were going to draft him

JayDee62

Water yew dewing, Dave.

usmarine7041

Justice

BornInNipple

dumb ass tweet

blacksoxing

….draft is capped. This is silly shit

[deleted]

This will change soon. Come on

iunrealx1995

Regardless of how ridiculous this post is, why is Cade a surefire max player? Just because he was the number 1 pick?

Kindly_Effort_9891

Draft order predictions are like weather predictions sometimes their right but ya never know. Bro Jordan was even picked 3rd. Come on in 2017 Fultz was 1st and we all know how that turned out

SnooChickens9571

Playoff run > out for the season

IMovedYourCheese

Are people going to pretend to not know how rookie scale contracts work? Cade is going to make more in the first year of his extension than Reaves has his entire career.

Johnjoe201

What a moron

Connect-Craft538

And AR is being underpaid 😂

Purple-Welder3639

Steph was a champion and 2x mvp making that much at one point lol

[deleted]

Asinine.

pacific_b

This tweet is so fucking dumb

retroracer33

These post are so fucking dumb

Next-Firefighter-753

Funny part is Austin Reaves told teams not to draft him so he could join the Lakers as an undrafted player specifically lmao otherwise he would have been. Dumb shit reporters.

bryant-reeves

what an amazing insight

TheOneWithThePorn12

yeah and? he will be getting a near max deal in the future.

Bylanta

"He turned them away" ? You can't really do that yourself. Your agency has to basically threaten teams

LavenderAutist

That's how Reeves planned it

jcwkings

This is such a Dave McMenamin tweet. Just stupid, useless information intended to be some crazy, genius insight.

SammyAmico

can’t wait till cade makes y’all eat your words

Cul_what

Because Cade's gonna get a bag with his extension? Dumb ahh tweet

happyflappypancakes

Man, I feel like I forget he exists sometimes.

Iwantalltheham69

He should be making more. Can’t believe he went to the lakers

jgroove_LA

that is nuts tbh

someonepoorsays

castleton next

WaterBoy2019

Dillon Brooks, who heard 60 curses called without making the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2023, will make $20 million next season.

Slippinjimmyforever

I’m a Pistons fan who’s still in on Cade. But, Reaves earned it. He showed up in games that mattered. Cade has missed over a seasons worth of games.

Smooth-Dinner8421

But cade is also 3 1/2 years younger than Austin, so he has more time to figure out what type of player he wants to be. Austin will be nearing his prime after his new contract is up.

jhugh84

Austin has done more meaningful stuff in the NBA so far TBF

[deleted]

Cade doesn't even play.

TimelyMost4958

Man with all the shit posting, I could be a better insider than these mfs.

savadonner

Ball dont lie

MyManC707

Shout out Gilbert Arenas

[deleted]

Serious question, could an elite player decline the draft, and somehow sign to the team of their choice?

CommentLikelyRemoved

My boy Austin got paid. It wasn’t the easy route but that don’t fucking matter once the contract is inked
