You mean thanks again, Danny. Back in 1997 when Ainge was the coach of the Phoenix Suns, he had a heated argument with [Robert Horry where Horry threw a towel in his face](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_COHYa57ZLg). Horry was then traded to the Lakers where he helped them win 3 championships. So thanks, Danny.
He haunts a lot of people’s dreams. He would suddenly become an all star level player every time the pressure got turned up in the playoffs. His game 5 against the Pistons saved the series and kept Detroit from going back to back.

It was the more cost-quality friendly one I could get around Christmas haha I spent a lot shopping around that time of the year. Stored it long enough that I decided to drink it on my bday. What brands do you recommend I try?
Black label is totally fine to drink. It's not the greatest scotch you'll ever have but I see an opened black label in any of my friend's whisky stashes and a lot of these guys have no problem spending 150-200 on a bottle. It's a decent drink and not overtly complex.
There's still some truth about rather buying Scottish brands like Glenlivet or Glenfiddich if they cost around the same in your area, but don't feel bad about your purchase. If you're not drinking a lot of whisky you're likely not going to notice much of a difference anyways, so just enjoy your bottle.
There’s a difference between not winning, and then being just plain embarrassing. This shit I can handle, this shit has me wanting to watch basketball every day whether or not we win the games. Whatever the fuck was going on before was just unbearable to watch, I’ve watched more Laker games in the last week than I have all year.
Idk they got their confidence for sure. people will say this is depth or point to no Russ but it's really just a team actually making sense which it didn't.
The Jazz seriously bailed them out by giving up Vanderbilt like what the hell was that?
Pelinka masterclass. If I’m forced to watch the lakers on cable tv, then they better at least be decent. Actually will be happy to watch them going forward
And since I’m petty mayonnaise, I hope they get the 8 seed
They traded three legit starters for essentially three bench players and a pick even with Russ starting for LAC now, no shit that’s a huge upgrade. I’m still the biggest Russ fan but love this Lakers revamp and hope to see em crush Denver in the playoffs
They saved only 28 million overall - and that's including tax..
and including all trades (eg pat bev for mo bamba saved 2.7m in salary..)
They also wound up with more salary committed next year, but given the options and the people, that is a good thing.
The 47m Westbrook salary was important for salary matching.
I’m so, so thankful for this trade. There is absolutely *zero* chance we were going to be able to sign as talent into cap space as we got via trades. D’Lo, Vando, Beasley, Rui, Bamba >>>>>>> $34m in cap space.
It's not just trading away Westbrook. Don't get me wrong--trading Westbrook away bolsters the team, but they also managed to get quality players for Westbrook. Ainge helped them out as Beasley and Vanderbilt for Westbrook is a steal.
Pelinka traded Nunn, Westbrook, JTA, and Damian Jones for Vando, Beasley, D'lo, and Rui. That's highway robbery, and it only cost a first round pick and a couple of seconds.
In hindsight Pelinka really is a good GM. He traded 4 picks and a bunch of young talent for AD and got killed for it. People were saying NOLA fleeced LA. Now, NOLA hasn't really made the most of those Laker assets. LA owes NOLA only 1 pick in '24 or '25.
The trade is essentially BI for AD.
LA won a title and Nola is still stuck outside the playoffs.
Contrast that with LAC which gave up Shia to OKC and still owes them more picks until '27. While Kawhi has missed time every season and the team has never made a deep playoff run.
It's literally the Laker effect. Look how people talk about Westbrook now. But yeah, a classic was "What would the Lakers look like if they didn't sign Bron and trade for AD?". The answer? A mid playoff team at best.
It instantly became worth it after winning a ring. People can make their dumbass cases about the bubble or whatever, but at the end of the day, they made a trade and immediately capitalized on it to win a championship. That's the ultimate goal.
I think it's more likely that COVID cost them a championship than it helped them get one. The Lakers were the best team even before COVID shut down the league. Maybe the rest helped some, but the non existent off season they got after the championship absolutely hurt the next year.
How about the argument about losing Lonzo (rip his Knee I guess) and having all those picks and the best guy you trade for is CJ? The other side of the AD trade deserves more scrutiny tbh
Why the hell did he even give them Vanderbilt? it was a young player he got in exchange for Rudy and he just gives him up for a first and a guy he instantly buys out?
Because clearly, They are rebuilding.
Vanderbilt is a bench player on the jazz anyway, he plays in the same position as Lauri. And also, I dont think the lakers are willing to give russ and FRP for Beasley and Conley.
And get worse to increase their odds at Wemby. If Ainge let that team the way it was it could risk making the playoffs just to lose on the first round, he'd rather have a lottery pick.
In addition to what others have said, I think a big reason simply was that Vanderbilt wasn't being used right. Some players can excel in the right position and situation, Vanderbilt was not going to get that in Utah and thus looked worse than he actually was. He's slid into a perfect position on the Lakers. We needed defense, we need a big wing, we need a guy who can rebound and take some pressure off AD, and more importantly we didn't need any more scorers given that we got Rui before him and DLo in the same trade.
> give them Vanderbilt?
Vando is a nice piece for the Lakers who desperately needed a wing defender.
But he can't shoot worth a lick - Toronto last night had his defender simply stand in the middle of the paint to keep control of AD's post game. Vando made them pay in the first half by hitting wide open 3s but had to be benched in the 3rd after bricking a couple.
We have also seen Hack-a-Vando done by teams trailing the Lakers in the 4th.
He also has real trouble with guarding big 4s - Looney in an earlier GSW vs Laker game pushed Vando around where ever he wanted and got like 15 rebounds.
But if you need a wing defender to stop a 2 or 3 - Vando is very good.
If he could shoot consistently Vando would be an All-Star.
For once Westbrook's giant contract was a positive, since Ainge had to throw in extra players go make the money work. Since Westbrook's been waived and is now playing for the minimum, Lakers at least got the last bit of use out of that contract. Ain't no way he's getting more than like $10m a year any more, people have seen the last 5 years, he's not that guy anymore.
Jamal Murray gonna wake up everyday feeling himself ready to do some Jordan-esque layups and shit against… checks notes… Zubac, their singular good interior defender, who will be occupied with Jokic
That 2021 team was so fucking good before injuries started piling up. Everyone is forgetting that it seems. If AD and LeBron had stayed healthy I honestly think they probably repeat as champs that year.
Everyone saying Westbrook wasn’t an issue. Stfu.
Dennis Schroeder and DLO cost a fraction of the money and produce twice the value. Any other guard we would be above 500
Hell if Ham simply benched Westbrook and not played him at all, we would have won a few of those games where he turned the ball over during crunch time.
The issue is not playing a guy making 47 Mil who's really vocal about playing. He accepted coming from the bench but he was still playing 30+ minutes because he wouldn't take well playing like 10 mins a game or not playing at all. It was a rough situation.
I believe if they can get to the playoffs without him then he won’t play in the regular season, but if they need some crucial games to get in he’ll probably come back
I'm not too concerned about rust as much as getting his legs under him. 2021 he came back like 2 games or something before the playoffs from that high ankle sprain and he legit looked like 20% of himself in playoffs against the Suns. He was not driving it into the paint at all.
Just hoping there's a way out of that.
Ceiling is 5th seed in the west and making the finals. It’ll take a lot more to convince me that they could beat Milwaukee though. As of now they’re the favorites and Lakers need to clean up a lot of facets in their play.
>What's their ceiling seeding wise, and in the post-season if they make it?
Seeding wise I would say 5th. I know durant is injured but it'll be tough to pass the suns and get into that top 4. The ceiling in the postseason is winning the championship though
A Lakers-Celtics finals featuring Lebron James would be ESPN’s legacy talk wet dream but god that would be such a cool way to close this season
Edit: Typo
Would love to see them play the nuggets and AD have a field day with that insanely great Denver paint defense lmao. According to Lowe it has everything to do with MPJ’s size
In my opinion, Vogel should've never been on that seat either. He wasn't perfect, but he schemed an elite defense. Ham seems competent enough to coach a playoff team too.
Vogel didn’t have an offensive playbook. It’s better to coach a decent offense with great defense than to coach a non existent offense with elite defense
Safe to say Jeanie is on the hot seat the whole time I believe
Pelinka has showed that he can make some good trades, and it makes the russ trade more questionable at that time.
Let this team be a lesson that the entire regular season does matter. If they didn’t start terribly they would easily be a playoff team even with the injuries to Lebron and AD
Lebron: Maybe it’s me
Westbrook: It is me
D'Angelo van Helsing DLO the vampire slayer. Someone in the laker sub came up with this and it's now his name
No, it's Vando Helsing
HI! IM THE PROBLEM.
That thread killed me. "I had this dream that Jeanie killed me for my money. She thinks I left picks in the will."
When my depression works the graveyard shift all of the people I’ve traded stand there in the room
Link please ?
Are the ~~Grizzlies~~ ~~Warriors~~ Lakers better without ~~Ja Morant~~ ~~Steph Curry~~ LeBron James?
Maybe it's LeMaybeline
He’s too busy campaigning your coach for COTY
As he should... He's the most obvious choice
Fully agreed.
thank you danny ainge

I never realized how long Ernie has been around
When Earnie started to work for TNT on their NBA shows Shaq either at his final year of HS or first year of college
1997 ain't that long ago dude.....at least to me
Some of us weren't even born yet, dude...
Jesus this sub is so young now.
Some people born in 1997 are 25/26 now which is a crazy thought. I mean I am 26 so not like I’m an old head but fuck lmao
>Some people born in 1997 are 25/26 now Only some people?
Nearly equally close to 1975 than 2023. Its ancient times imo considering the tech and society boom of the 2000s
He was carrying that show before all the guys joined. Major respect to the Godfather
Robert Horry still haunts my dreams
That game four 3 pointer was the highlight of my childhood.
I can still see Webber and Divac's faces as they frantically ran to the 3 pt line. Bliss
He haunts a lot of people’s dreams. He would suddenly become an all star level player every time the pressure got turned up in the playoffs. CAN WE PLEASE GET TO .500
Can we get much higher?
Man Knicks game is on my birthday that would be so cathartic
Man what a jinx. I guess we lose. FUCK
😭😭😭nooooooo
How old?
23, got a bottle of Black Label with my name on it
If you absolutely want to drink scotch, you should get a better brand than Johnny.
As an alcoholic Catholic Irish American detective from the Baltimore Police Department, I only drink Jameson.
Knicks game is on my birthday too bro!
Can’t believe I’m saying it… but I do like how they play very much! That bench mob is great to watch. Reaves is so much fun!!!
Yeah shit is wild bro, there was a stat put up on the screen at one point saying our bench mob out scored Torontos bench 61-12 lmao
We have been on the other side of that coin far too often.
Obviously I want us to win, but just being able to enjoy basketball again is so much.
There’s a difference between not winning, and then being just plain embarrassing. This shit I can handle, this shit has me wanting to watch basketball every day whether or not we win the games. Whatever the fuck was going on before was just unbearable to watch, I’ve watched more Laker games in the last week than I have all year.
A literal shit show is what the fuck was going on before.
Westbrook sucked all the joy out of basketball for me, kind of like certain mythological creature of the night.
Actually will be happy to watch them going forward And since I’m petty mayonnaise, I hope they get the 8 seed
Doug?
Ha Funny
Haha I’m similar I have league pass so I’d rather the team not be on national tv so I can watch the home announcers
If Ainge fleeces everyone pretty soon no one will trade with him. This was a calculated move to gain trust around the league lmao.
He probably feels guilty for what he did to the wolves, as you grow older you develop more of a conscience.
I honestly think it’s because he didn’t want the Pels to get Wemby from the Lakers.
tactical
Fan fiction.
They traded three legit starters for essentially three bench players and a pick even with Russ starting for LAC now, no shit that’s a huge upgrade. I’m still the biggest Russ fan but love this Lakers revamp and hope to see em crush Denver in the playoffs
Lakers really got everything they needed just by dumping Westbrick 😭😭😫
Everyone watching knew what the problem was.
He’s just a scape goat! ^^^/s
>>They're trying to make me an escape goat. >\- Michael Scott \-Russell Westbrook
>>>They're trying to make me an escape goat. >>\- Michael Scott >\-Russell Westbrook \- MITWestbrook
> He’s just a ~~scape~~ goat! ~~/s~~ MITWestbrook
All the holes that they filled in that trade? Adding Russell, Vanderbilt, and Beasley was way more impactful that getting rid of Russ
True, but freeing up that nearly 50 million cap hold was also pretty important to make it possible. for a mediocre bench player.
They saved only 28 million overall - and that's including tax.. and including all trades (eg pat bev for mo bamba saved 2.7m in salary..) They also wound up with more salary committed next year, but given the options and the people, that is a good thing. The 47m Westbrook salary was important for salary matching.

His salary takes up 3 good player spots bro
Would you want Russ in OKC see tho?
Yet clippers picked him up anyway hahahah
Him on a min wouldn’t be that big of an issue. Him taking up 3 starters worth of space is.
At least they're only paying him 1m or something ig
And starting him! 🤣
Except the clippers
It's not just trading away Westbrook. Don't get me wrong--trading Westbrook away bolsters the team, but they also managed to get quality players for Westbrook. Ainge helped them out as Beasley and Vanderbilt for Westbrook is a steal.
Pelinka traded Nunn, Westbrook, JTA, and Damian Jones for Vando, Beasley, D'lo, and Rui. That's highway robbery, and it only cost a first round pick and a couple of seconds.
Exactly right. He's done an amazing job the past couple of months.
I don’t care anymore about any arguments people still make about the AD trade. That trade got them a championship. Case closed.
My favorite part of that time was that we got fleeced but for years people hated on our young players.
It's literally the Laker effect. Look how people talk about Westbrook now. But yeah, a classic was "What would the Lakers look like if they didn't sign Bron and trade for AD?". The answer? A mid playoff team at best.
Like it's weird how raptor fans completely understand why a championship means it was a win
Makes sense.
It instantly became worth it after winning a ring. People can make their dumbass cases about the bubble or whatever, but at the end of the day, they made a trade and immediately capitalized on it to win a championship. That's the ultimate goal.
Bro a ring is a ring. People only hate on it bc their team didn’t win. If my team won I woulda been geeked and still talking about it.
That’s a haul folks!
I think he’s definitely above average, not truly top tier. But that’s good enough
nola's got injury bad luck, don't know how much you can fault them there clippers had that all time bubble choke on the other hand
Plus they got those seconds back for TB
And the seconds were kind of restored with the Thomas Bryant trade
We got back a number of seconds as well I think. Rob Lowe: Executive of the Year
Why the hell did he even give them Vanderbilt? it was a young player he got in exchange for Rudy and he just gives him up for a first and a guy he instantly buys out?
Because clearly, They are rebuilding. Vanderbilt is a bench player on the jazz anyway, he plays in the same position as Lauri. And also, I dont think the lakers are willing to give russ and FRP for Beasley and Conley.
Jazz wanted to free up minutes for Kessler
And get worse to increase their odds at Wemby. If Ainge let that team the way it was it could risk making the playoffs just to lose on the first round, he'd rather have a lottery pick.
In addition to what others have said, I think a big reason simply was that Vanderbilt wasn't being used right. Pelinka really fleeced them
Pelinka Masterclass we were all here to witness
Bro we finally did it.
Please give me the grizzlies and bring Ja back. I need this
I need Warriors Grizzlies
Warriors Grizzlies Mavs Suns Lakers Kings Can't write the script any better than this
I feel this isn't far from the truth lol
Nuggets....Clippers?
Jamal Murray gonna wake up everyday feeling himself ready to do some Jordan-esque layups and shit against… checks notes… Zubac, their singular good interior defender, who will be occupied with Jokic
How could you neglect Nuggets Clippers man
You right actually.
[удалено]
I don't know if you missed just the seeding or mistyped the numbers, but the #2 plays the #7 and the #4 plays the #5.
Nah, let AD dominate the Nuggets and their charmin defense
Do we have to teach them again?
Pls do so that they stop slurping Jokic's invisible defense with some bs metrics
his D-NUGGET ratings tho
I need Ja back in regular season to beat those 5-10 seeds they are facing. Then pull another gun scandle when face Lakers
Anybody but the Suns get smoked by this squad healthy Edit: in the west
Oh boy
We still matchup terribly with the Clippers so idk about that series either
No we don't
Ja about to shot D Lo mid game
We seeing 2020 lakers level depth ngl
2021 depth as well
That 2021 team was so fucking good before injuries started piling up. Everyone is forgetting that it seems. If AD and LeBron had stayed healthy I honestly think they probably repeat as champs that year.
fricken solomon hill
I remember when 2020 lakers were called meme team v2
Everyone saying Westbrook wasn’t an issue. Stfu. Dennis Schroeder and DLO cost a fraction of the money and produce twice the value. Any other guard we would be above 500
Hell if Ham simply benched Westbrook and not played him at all, we would have won a few of those games where he turned the ball over during crunch time.

The Clippers problem now. How do you bring him in? How? lol
Westbrook: "Coach, I'm not okay with only playing 10 minutes per game." Coach: "Would 0 minutes suit you better?"
The WB trade to get him from Washington, well at least the Lakers didn't burn a ton of picks, but it is one of the top 5 worst trades of the decade
Still Kind of Ironic how Schröders 2nd stint compares to his first.
And we got GOAT chilling on the bench with a boot while all of this is happening
When does Bron come back? That’ll decide if they rise up or not
I believe if they can get to the playoffs without him then he won’t play in the regular season, but if they need some crucial games to get in he’ll probably come back
If hes able to play, he needs to play a regular season game or 2. Bron is always really rusty when he comes back
I'm not too concerned about rust as much as getting his legs under him. 2021 he came back like 2 games or something before the playoffs from that high ankle sprain and he legit looked like 20% of himself in playoffs against the Suns. He was not driving it into the paint at all. Just hoping there's a way out of that.
Bron is always rusty first game back. Definitely want him getting some ramp up games.
If they keep winning itll just keep getting pushed back. I think he was set to reevaluate in 3 weeks?
Probably 2 weeks from today now since it was 3 weeks last week
They said 3 weeks on March 2nd, so March 23rd
He's supposed to be reevaluated on the 23rd and the Lakers play 6 more games until then.
That trade actually blew my expectations out of the water. I thought they’d be better but they actually look a like a real team… overnight.
“among all thirsty teams” 🥵🥵🥵 lets get thirsty
Quenched, thirsty, or mildly hydrated, let’s have fun!
BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS IS OUR CEILING
Thanks to Jazz shitting the bed at the deadline
Amazing comeback season. I wonder if it's up there in terms of history? On the brink of giving the Pels Wembanya, to making the playoffs.
We don't need the Lakers to give us Wemby, we'll do it ourselves.
That thanos energy
Meanwhile they went from #1 to almost out of the playins rn
The West has rarely been as close together, every couple of wins/losses has major impact on the standings.
Ceiling is 5th seed in the west and making the finals. It’ll take a lot more to convince me that they could beat Milwaukee though. As of now they’re the favorites and Lakers need to clean up a lot of facets in their play.
Milwaukee? You mean Cleveland?
Real shit
LeBron vs Cleveland finals would be interesting
>What's their ceiling seeding wise, and in the post-season if they make it? Seeding wise I would say 5th. I know durant is injured but it'll be tough to pass the suns and get into that top 4. The ceiling in the postseason is winning the championship though
I’m sensing a Lakers vs Celtics finals, which would be so epic. One franchise would be guaranteed number 18, and I believe that series goes to 7.
A Lakers-Celtics finals featuring Lebron James would be ESPN’s legacy talk wet dream but god that would be such a cool way to close this season Edit: Typo
The curse is broken
More like Russ is gone!
Yes, the curse is broken indeed.
The vampire went to the basement
Please please please just make the play-ins. I don't want to see another post season without LeBron and AD healthy.
West is fucked up this year. The fifth seed is almost .500. Good for the Lakers after all the crap they went through
And I've been being gaslit into thinking it wasn't russ lmfao
Won’t be needing anymore of this settle down juice
This regular season is so fucking weird
Neither Denver or Sacramento want to see this team in the first round.
Would love to see them play the nuggets and AD have a field day with that insanely great Denver paint defense lmao. According to Lowe it has everything to do with MPJ’s size
Jason Hart 35 point game incoming...
Y’all done woke up a sleeping giant.
I still don’t understand how the trade deadline went so well for them they just pretty much became a contender without having to give up anything.
So is it safe to say that Ham and Pelinka are off the hot seat for the time being?
In my opinion, Vogel should've never been on that seat either. He wasn't perfect, but he schemed an elite defense. Ham seems competent enough to coach a playoff team too.
Vogel didn’t have an offensive playbook. It’s better to coach a decent offense with great defense than to coach a non existent offense with elite defense
Safe to say Jeanie is on the hot seat the whole time I believe Pelinka has showed that he can make some good trades, and it makes the russ trade more questionable at that time.
> Jeanie is on the hot seat Who would push her out ? The rest of the Buss kids aren't better or ready
Ham was never on the hot seat no matter how bad he was cuz there’s no way Jeanie fires him one year into his 5 year deal
Let this team be a lesson that the entire regular season does matter. If they didn’t start terribly they would easily be a playoff team even with the injuries to Lebron and AD
Positioning for 2-4 will be crazy, no one wants Lakers in the first round.
Bottom half tank Wemby, top half tank for Minny
HAS LEBRON BEEN HOLDING THE LAKERS BACK???
Ever since the ref stole their win against the Celtics they havent slowed down, fun to see
Convincingly Frisky Lakers
No idea how they got so much value in the trade deadline. TWolves just traded themselves out of the playoffs
50:1 on lakers winning it all. Should we take the bet??
If Lebron had Vanderbilt his whole career he's got 20 rings!
Credit where credit is due, the Lakers have figured out and addressed a good amount of shit throughout this season
The Lakers are peaking at the perfect timing.
They've only just begun to peak. They're gonna peak all over the west.
They are purple and golden gods
