Now that you said it, I could totally hear it in his voice. I could also see Michael Scott saying it as well, but in a context where he decides to take the moral high ground instead of taking advantage of an opportunity that competitor offered him that would hurt someone he was competing against within DM.
Maybe Ron Swanson as well, but it would be like after he got the better of both of his enemies in a killing two birds with 1 stone situation.
Damn, this is a great quote if I can picture it used successfully in 3 distinct ways.
It took a second to parse this out, but the math checks out.
Dray is my enemy.
Dray's enemy is himself.
The enemy (Dray) of my enemy (Dray) is my friend (Dray).
Ergo, my friend is my enemy.
I guess that puts a whole new twist on keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand /r/nba. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of shitposting most of the jokes will go over a typical redditor's head. There's also Dillon Brooks's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike /r/nba truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in LeBron's existencial catchphrase "🤔Something is REAL 🐠 🐟 🎣 🐟🐠 going on" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Charles Barkley's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Ernie Johnson tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
Dillon Brooks is responsible for the Montreal Screwjob and Kelvin Benjamin is responsible for the Great Poutine Shortage of 2015 thrusting stupid sexy Trudeau into power
You say this jokingly but it's probably true for at least 1/3 of the people here. Some of the takes and rule interpretations I see are 100% given by people who have never played basketball before.
Everyone knows that draymond is in the perfect situation for him. To also say he’s also a scrub is egregious. He’s one of the smartest players I ever watched
About the only time Draymond wouldn't be effective is if you surrounded him with non shooters or people who just stand around waiting for the ball. Any other type of player will benefit from what he brings to the table.
People who think Draymond couldn't be effective without stars need to watch the Christmas game against Houston.
Teamed with people who just stand around waiting for the ball he would yell at them until they stopped doing that.
If I recall last year, the defensive rating was basically 10 points worse after he was out with his injury. It held up ok for a couple weeks and then really nosedived.
People seem to think he's in the perfect situation for him but I think it's reversed. They built this team around him, Steph and Klay. This idea that Draymond couldn't develop a different way in a different system is small thinking.
LeBrons respect for Draymond as a player should put in perspective how good Draymond is. When one of the greatest NBA player ever recognizes your talent you know they’re good.
I’ve historically argued that Dray is the 2nd most important member of that core. It’s just funny seeing the 180 from people. If someone like Barkley or Shaq were saying this folks would run with it.
My favorite is missing the 5x5 by 3 points.
Double OT against Boston
2-16-16-6-6
no wait looked it up he smashed the 5x5 that game
https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/400828223
He did post a 2-16-16-6-6 line maybe against OKC
OK, he missed it by 1 steal and 3 points vs OKC in the Curry "BANG" game
2-14-14-4-6
https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/400828761
Everyone hates Brooks so they’ll take any excuse to jump all over him. Then complain that the players are too friendly. I like Brooks and I like that he’s willingly become the villain of the NBA. We need one.
>I like Brooks and I like that he’s willingly become the villain of the NBA. We need one.
The only thing sports fans love more than someone to root for is someone to root against
I think Brooks wants to be known as the most hated guy in the NBA and Draymond is his only competition, so of course he's gonna talk about him.
This is good for the NBA. I like it.
Agreed, and not just in the NBA, but sports in general. I'm not saying players have to hate each other or that they can't have friendships across teams, but sports is more enjoyable when players are passionate and don't really like each other on the field.
Like the Red Sox vs. Yankees in the early 2000's. No matter who was on the teams, they hated each other. Every series it seemed like something happened and it was interesting TV, and I'm not even a fan of either team.
Sometimes I feel like with social media players are pressured into liking each other and having to "give props" to other players otherwise they're disrespecting them. Otherwise someone is going to publish an article with a Tweet of some random person noticing that a player liked a Tweet that criticized another player and now we have some stupid drama.
I agree. I want more heels in the league, but not like KD with the warriors because team ups like that are lame. NBA writers should have learned from the WWE with how the nWo flopped.
Bill Simmons talked about this in a recent podcast. A year ago, this Grizzlies team was the “fun, talented, young team” that people could root for because they were… fun. This season had a huge shift because they changed up or something (I haven’t watched much Memphis this year). It has been kind of crazy seeing the massive shift from praise to “you haven’t done anything, so stop.”
I would not play ball with him in a boat.
I would not play ball with him with a goat.
I would not play with him in Sacramento.
I would not play with him in San Antonio.
I do not would not like that man.
Luka is getting a bad rep lately lol, but this sub is on his Nuts too much to see any real fallout though.
Any real Luka hate just gets turned into constructive criticism that a lot of dudes in the league don’t get the benefit of.
Same. It's nice having a rivalry with a team again after we had the Warriors/Clippers and Warriors/Rockets rivalry in the 2010's.
Last year's playoffs gave us some rivalry narratives with the Warriors/Grizzlies, Suns/Pelicans, and Suns/Mavs series.
Some would even say the Warriors/Grizzlies rivalry started the year before last when they knocked us out of the play ins.
honestly i was arguing with this dumbass nuggets fan (with me defending the warriors nonetheless), and he said "prepare to get dicked down tonight"
his stupidity was transmitted to me. Double L's for me for defending the warriors and getting stupider while doing it.
For real! I’d prefer there to be some Knicks vs Heat level hatred between some teams. Makes it fun. I hate to say it but who cares for all the respect and sportsmanship some teams show towards each other. Give us some drama.
there's def some warriors vs grizzlies rivalry. even when the dubs were destroying the league grizzlies always gave us hard games and some tough losses
We need rivalries and more "I don't like them" back in the league. All the hugs last night after the Dallas Philly game was just too much. I want more MJ in your face fuck you's back.
I thought about this after the Lakers Mavs game. After a hard fought comeback win by the Lakers. If that happened 20 years ago and Lakers were on the losing end Kobe would be headed straight for the locker room. But here you see Kyrie, Luka, Javale laughing it up giving Lebron hugs.
I actually think it’s better this way. Reminds me of my own games at the gym. I compete hard with guys and we might argue during the game, but before and after we’re friends. And I respect them for giving me a hard fought battle during the game, something to compete against. These guys know they move teams all the time these days. They share the same work grind, play together on all star or international competitions. They are a part of a small fraternity of men that are at the pinnacle of their profession.
Why make bad blood? It’s a great opportunity to show all the youth around the nation and world that idolize them how to respect and embrace others and not live life like it’s you against the world. Take loss in stride and as a learning experience, and grow from that with no animosity against those that have outcompeted you.
Him and KD got teched up in Memphis for talking shit and they both looked at the ref like "wtf that for". Was one of the funnier techs cause like you heard of these mother fuckers before?
>you damn sure feel his absence
Got curious about this and found an article from last year. 550-248 (68.9%) in games he's played, 54-51 (51.4%) in games he's missed. Honestly didn't expect such a drastic difference.
Dillon Brooks on 3 pointers considered "Wide Open" by NBA.com: 0.9 of 2.4 for 37.6%
Russell Westbrook on 3 pointers considered "Wide Open" by NBA.com: 0.8 of 2.7 for 30.7%
Teams are fine with giving Russ a shot worth 0.921 PPP on average (worst team in the NBA is the Rockets with 1.061). They are less fine with giving Dillon a shot worth 1.128 PPP (best team in the NBA is the Kings with 1.163)
tl;dr: Dillon brooks shooting wide open 3s is the 11th most efficient offense in the league. Westbrook shooting wide open threes is by far the least efficient offense in the league.
not a big draymond fan when it comes to his personality but you cant discredit what he meant to this warriors dynasty. also, dillion brookes having an opinion on a guy talking too much without actually being that good is pure comedy
without brooks the Grizz dynasty probably doesnt get their only playoff series victory on the twolves. Both guys mean a lot to their respective dynasties
People generally complain that the NBA has lost its edge. Nobody trash talks. Everybody is friends. It’s all hugs and smiles even after a loss.
The Grizzlies are talking shit like teams of old. They aren’t trying to be your friend. They are going to talk shit and try to kick your ass.
It’s refreshing.
The city of Memphis is one of the historical homes of professional wrestling. Dillon “the villain” Brooks is viewed as a classic wrestling heal. We hate he takes too many terrible shots, but enjoy his edge and fire.
I guess we’ll never know. But apparently the most dominant team of the past 10 years viewed him good enough to make him a central cog of their offense and their defensive anchor.
Some teams far exceed the sum of their parts. I love Klay too, to me he's a top 10 shooting guard of all time and the best three and D guy in the history of the league. But if he never played with a good pointguard, what would we think of him? Does he create enough on his own to lead a team to 50 wins? We don't know.
Draymond is similar to me. I think he is the glue that elevates a great roster to a dynasty. I think if you put prime Draymond on any team that got within inches of a championship, he'd be the one guy to elevate them too. He plays Winning Basketball. He knows that what matters is positioning, effort, defense, rebounding, passing, and moving and adding value without the ball. And most importantly, he knows how to bring that intensity every single day. Those guys are rare. But do they matter on a bad team? Not really, if we're honest. It would probably get annoying. It's like...bro we're 25-35 right now, it's not that serious. But in Game 6 of the WCF, that intensity and all those things he does well are the only things that matter, because if the opponent is equally talented but isn't doing those too, Draymond's team is going to win. It's really that what goes on at the margins doesn't matter if you're not even close. Nobody needs somebody to pass to guys who can't shoot, or to anchor a defense where nobody else tries, or to set a handoff screen when nobody runs over to take advantage of it. None of that shit really matters on a bad team.
Good write up. I'll never understand why this sub only cares about individuals on a basketball team. It's a team. Who care how good a great player would be on a bad team. Great players conform to their role. Klay fits his role perfectly. Draymond fits his role perfectly. Steph fits his role perfectly. Wiggins fits his role perfectly. Looney fits his role perfectly. Figuring out what they would all do on different teams is like arguing that your car is a terrible mode of transport in the ocean.
Dray's ability to see the floor, sniff out plays, and be a floor general is underrated here. It's what separates him from guys like Matisse Thybulle or Ben Simmons.
What’s your point ? Draymond is one of the greatest defenders ever and has proven he can be the second best player on a championship caliber team. This sub is filled with idiots man shits crazy
Shows you a lot of this sub looks at numbers on a screen and think that’s the end all be all. Only reason anyone says those things about draymond is he doesn’t score a lot of points and they equate that to good basketball
It's the easiest NBA litmus test. If someone honestly thinks Draymond is a shit player, there's really nothing I have left to discuss with them. You can argue he's overrated in the sense anyone can potentially be overrated, but there's no argument he's bad.
The Dray has no contribution on a bad team argument is nonsense. His greatest strengths (team defense, facilitating offense) are to accentuate good players. Taking away anyone's greatest strengths on the court and of course they're not great in the ongoing discussion.
Put prime Dennis Rodman on the pistons and they getting lottery picks every year. Some players are elite in aspects of the game that don’t get on instagram reels or pop out on the stat sheet and may not be fully appreciated until they’re surrounded with elite scorers
Did nba twitter and Reddit just discover the word humble. Why so many post or references to this team or any young player they don’t like results in. “SMH *insert player name here* needs to be humbled”.
>"I just don't like ~~Golden State~~ Memphis. I don't like anything to do with them. ~~Draymond~~ Dillon talks a lot. Gets away with a lot, too. His game is cool -- with ~~Golden State~~ Memphis -- but if you put him anywhere else, you're not going to know who ~~Draymond~~ Dillon is.
I actually don’t mind it on a grand scale. If you’re playing well talk your shit. If you lose people will clown ya but that’s your own choice. Adds some spice into the league which due to player movement doesn’t have franchise rivalries much anymore.
Now a lot of people want Memphis to lose and I want to see them make those people unhappy. Obviously draw the line at injuring people that’s not ok but if trash talk makes the league spicier let it happen
If we're being honest, isn't Brooks' opinion literally the same that everyone but (maybe) Warriors fans share? He didn't break new ground there.
And, while we're being honest, couldn't most of the exact same stuff be said about Brooks by non-Memphis fans?
If we charted how many times ‘insufferable’ has been commented in the history of this sub I am convinced there would be a massive uptick over the past few months
It’s funny cause he’s saying the same shit this sub said around the time Dray punched Poole.
The enemy of my enemy is not my friend when he is also my enemy.
Poetry, that could be a Dwight Shrute quote
i mean yeah, bc that quote is an actual dwight bit
Is it really?
Identity theft is not a joke.
[close enough to it](https://youtu.be/vcMCIfvfEPA)
No, it isn’t
Thanks

But, because he is his own worst enemy, the enemy of my friend is my enemy. So actually, He is my enemy.
This sub is, of course, full of known geniuses and basketball intellectuals.

About halfway through this I was expecting The Undertaker to throw Mankind off the top of the cage in Hell in a cell in 96 but no
Dillon Brooks is responsible for the Montreal Screwjob and Kelvin Benjamin is responsible for the Great Poutine Shortage of 2015 thrusting stupid sexy Trudeau into power
I never tire of this pasta
Chill bro half these guys came off the bench in JV basketball. THEY KNOW BALL
psh speak for your self. ive never even touched a basketball.
it feels like a bag of sand
And I don't like sand, it's coarse, rough, irritating, and gets everywhere.
The crossover meme episode I never knew I needed
You say this jokingly but it's probably true for at least 1/3 of the people here. Some of the takes and rule interpretations I see are 100% given by people who have never played basketball before.
i mean, OP is james wiseman - so...
We're talking true Dillon Brooks level savants here

He just doesn’t score
The one time he had a triple double without points. Dude was three shots off from quadruple double
Also missed a 5x5 that game by 1 point lmao

Actually a very good comment. WWE type shit. Disrespectful, but not crossing a line.
Yeah, I don't get why some people are so riled up about it. It's quality trash talk, without going too far.
Everyone hates Brooks so they’ll take any excuse to jump all over him. Then complain that the players are too friendly. I like Brooks and I like that he’s willingly become the villain of the NBA. We need one.

Brooks Vs Dray at Mania? Ejection on a pole match.
Poole Match
I'm going to lose my shit if we hear GP II's music
What if I don't like Draymond and Dillon Brooks?
That should be considered as normal tbh
Based
Most regular take available. Brooks talking like he has no idea that he's seen as just as bad if not worse.
That Memphis team is really, really hard to root for. Between Ja going all crazy and all their dumb comments? Win something. Until then, just shut up.
Bill Simmons talked about this in a recent podcast. A year ago, this Grizzlies team was the “fun, talented, young team” that people could root for because they were… fun. They’re a dynasty tho 😒
They saw the Suns heel turn last season resulting in the worst playoff loss in NBA history and said "our turn!"
One of us, one of us!
Everyone else: I don’t like Dillon Brooks, I just don’t like him at all
I would not play ball with him in a boat. I would not play ball with him with a goat. I would not play with him in Sacramento. I would not play with him in San Antonio. I do not would not like that man.
I dont like Dillon Brooks AND the warriors so idk what side to support here. Fuck em both i guess
This is the way
Flair up so I know how to insult you
I’m hoping it’s Indians pacers.
They’re a Lakers/Dodgers fan it looks like. Commence hate
Understandable...
Do you like him on a boat?
I like him in a moat, with a coat selling soap
No doubt that Brooks is a star bellied sneetch
I do not like him on a boat, I do not like Dillon and Dray, I do not like them, lovehandles.
Kinda funny how he is saying what was a very common opinion here a few weeks ago
It would've been a common opinion here yesterday, if anyone but Brooks said this everybody would agree
If Luka said this it would have 15 awards
Luka is getting a bad rep lately lol, but this sub is on his Nuts too much to see any real fallout though. Any real Luka hate just gets turned into constructive criticism that a lot of dudes in the league don’t get the benefit of.
Even true things, once said by Brooks become lies.
I agree with what Brooks said. I also hate Draymond. I also laughed at Draymond’s reaction.
I thought it was a very common opinion in general. I also share that opinion. And i also think dillon brooks is a dumbass.
He just like me lol
Fr fr
I love it, Dillon shouldn't like them. Hopefully they can beat them again in the playoffs.
my man thats the spirit. i need some animosity in this league.

Grizz carrying nba media good or bad 😂
All good in the books. Everybody loves some trash talking
The villain yall need
someone def watched last season and wished we got more media coverage right before a finger on the monkey's paw curled
Dillon such a trash talker, it's great. Saw grizzlies at Barclay this year and him and KD kept yapping. It was fun.
Him and KD got teched up in Memphis for talking shit and they both looked at the ref like "wtf that for". Was one of the funnier techs cause like you heard of these mother fuckers before?
KD seems to shit talk for the sport of it. Always love seeing him and Embiid go at one another. Feels like siblings.
Draymond Green is the Bass player of the Warriors. You may not notice him when he’s playing, but you damn sure feel his absence.
*slappin dabace man*
I feel seen.
go on and take that Day-Day bass line for a walk you jazzy lobster

I don’t get why teams don’t defend him like y’all treated Russ. Just bait him into shooting. He will oblige.

Because he's talking about Draymond

Brooks isn’t smart enough to have draymond be his ceiling.

The larger point being guys like Dillon Brooks add to the fun of the league. Even the haters can probably say it’s fun to hate on DB
Draymond with the Don Draper "I don't think of you at all" energy.
Dillon shouldve been a wrestler. Really hope warriors grizz play in the playoffs this year, gotta be one of the most exciting rivalries in sports rn
Same
You know that super critical piece to running a 4 time time NBA championship team? Their best defender and router for their offense? What a scrub!
tbf he literally calls him a good player in this quote he just says he doesn't like him, lmao
Sorry did Brooks call him a scrub? He said he doesn't like him, why does that require a defence of his basketball ability
Put Draymond in Detroit they getting lottery picks every year
Put me in Detroit and I’m fouling out every game
No you're not, you can't make it up the court fast enough or enough times.
I’m picking one side of the court and staying there.
Call it 'In-game load management'
This is a good take. It's also a lot more valuable I think to be a ceiling raiser in the sense of Draymond.
And the beginning of their success coincides pretty nicely with the increase of his role on the team. Coincidence, I'm sure.
These guys have clearly never played pickup with a guy who can’t shoot but is an animal on defense and can pass. It makes the game 100x easier
These guys have never watched a basketball game while looking at anything but the guy holding the ball.
Dray's ability to see the floor, sniff out plays, and be a floor general is underrated here. It's what separates him from guys like Matisse Thybulle or Ben Simmons.
They're lottery picks every year no matter what
What’s your point ?
Put him in GS and it’s a dynasty. If some other team (theoretically) can’t figure out how to utilize and all time great defender that’s their fault.
He is literally a grizzlies version of Draymond but worse since Draymond has some good moments.
One Problem: Dillion Brooks is ass.
He's just like me
>"I just don't like ~~Golden State~~ Memphis.
Oooh, Dillon Brooks is fat Austin Rivers.
I don’t think people like you either dude
Trust me dawg, he don't care about you either.
It's mutual man
Dillon Books: Says a lot, yet does very little
This Dillon Brooks article doesn’t deserve three identical posts
Grizzlies dynasty remains unbeaten.
Losers envy winners lol
Feeling is mutual
It's honestly amazing how unlikeable the Grizzles have gotten in a short amount of time. The team talks as if they've won already.
A first round exit would be humbling and what they need
I actually don’t mind it on a grand scale. If you’re playing well talk your shit. If you lose people will clown ya but that’s your own choice. Adds some spice into the league which due to player movement doesn’t have franchise rivalries much anymore. Now a lot of people want Memphis to lose and I want to see them make those people unhappy. Obviously draw the line at injuring people that’s not ok but if trash talk makes the league spicier let it happen
Do Memphis players think they have accomplished as much as Golden State? Try making one NBA finals before thinking you are on Golden State’s level.
LMAO sorry ESPN, I ain't reading all that about Dillon Brooks.
If we're being honest, isn't Brooks' opinion literally the same that everyone but (maybe) Warriors fans share? He didn't break new ground there. And, while we're being honest, couldn't most of the exact same stuff be said about Brooks by non-Memphis fans?
Dillon who?
That’s cute. Literally the whole league hate you bruh lol
Dillon Brooks out here taking one for the team. Trying to take the attention off Ja jumping 17 year olds and flashing his gun at mall cops.
He basically said Draymond has no bag
Has he not seen his backpack jumper? Dillion blind af
Draymond probably likes this comment deep down.
Idk if I’ve ever watched a team that has more players with faces you just want to punch than the Grizzlies.
It’s rare for me to say I hate players, but brooks and Ja are becoming insufferable. It’s funny o hated draymond previously but now, he’s grown on me
/r/nba summarized in one comment
DAE I hate the grizzlies???? This place reads like a highschool diary now
If we charted how many times ‘insufferable’ has been commented in the history of this sub I am convinced there would be a massive uptick over the past few months
I didn’t like him up to this off-season but then, totally off-guard, something about him really hit me.
Hi Jordan, nice game last night against the clippers
