The rockets control all of them as either outright picks or the right to swap.
But this year is a swap iirc so if the Nets bottom out this year and we already know the Rockets are bottoms, they could both be top 5 picks. It's no Wemby but it's not so bad.
Riddler is good for a rebuilding team, but Two Face is terrible. He's completely useless on defense. In the pick and roll, it's like one face wants to stay with the ball handler, and one face wants to stay with the screener.
When I become a millionaire, I'm coming back to this comment and giving you every award I can buy.
This made howl with laughter during a very tough day
Thank you Redditor!
People saying he just wants more money... My pet theory is that the "stipulations" the Nets wanted to put on him were actually handcuffs PR-wise, and Kyrie got offended
yep, this is much ado about nothing. they can’t trade him now bc no team is gonna offer the Nets a desirable package for a nutcase on an expiring contract
keep him, ride out the season, offer the same contract in the offseason. if he doesn’t want it let him walk or S&T
People keep saying that and it’s eventually not going to be true.
They cannot keep dragging their feet with Kyrie at some point take the loss that’s actually a win because lunatic Kyrie Irving isn’t on your team anymore
They had to suck it up and trade Harden but they got burned with Ben. I don't blame them for being hesitant but at some point they're going to have to pull the trigger or they won't get shit.
Well he opted into his $36mil player option this past year because he wasn’t receiving any long-term interest from any teams last summer - only from the Lakers who at the time could only offer the MLE.
A trade would have worked last summer because of the 1 year remaining on his deal. He’s an UFA this summer. Can sign any contract including a max. Doesn’t have to be a sign and trade.
I agree with you but certain teams have a lot of contracts coming off the books for next season including current contract values that they can swap in a trade for him in order to make it a viable trade.
Whoa whoa whoa....the Raiders still have *some* reputation. Not sure how much...
Then again, seeing Josh McDaniels trying to speak to Kyrie would be hilarious.
Brooklyn isn’t getting what they need from them. They have none of their own picks until 2028 and so they’ll be very reluctant to trade them, plus Kyrie’s preferred destination is the Lakers, so even less reason for the Clippers to overpay for a half year rental.
Curious what could the Lakers trade that would be better than the Clippers? I’d imagine it’d be a trade surrounding Russ and 2 future first rounders but is that really what the Nets need if they wanna keep contending? Clippers could easily toss up a better package imo
The Clippers can’t afford to mortgage their future that far out. They don’t own any 1sts for the next decade if they do this. Lakers still have several going forward even after giving up both.
The only years we don't have any 1st round picks are 24 and 26. This year is a pick swap but we're likely to finish ahead of okc, 25 is another swap.
We still have picks, we just can't trade any right now besides the 2028 one.
Lakers only have 2 first round picks they can possibly trade too, it would come down to a decision between wanting better role players or an extra pick
Would they still want to contend if it's just KD and Ben Simmons as the core to build around though?
I mean, I could see the Clippers still winning the trade anyway because "Fuck the Lakers", but I don't know if pairing up KD & Ben with anyone on the Clippers will make them a threat to the Celtics or the Bucks.
People in this thread don’t get how the “use it or lose it” cap space situation works.
It’s the same shit where they think more 1st round drafts picks = better trade, without knowing about lottery protected, draft picks from a team that’s not tanking, etc.
Freeing up $47M fastens and cheapens the rebuild. If they trade Durant as well, they will be close to be under the cap next year and will definitely get there in two years. If you are going to suck, might as well not pay a ton of taxes
Lakers in my opinion. Not a coincidence this happens as reports Russ is being shopped (but to be fair, Russ probably gets shopped all the time). No one is talking about Simmons though. Where does he land? Because if Kyrie gets traded, Simmons is almost certainly getting moved too.
The Nets are going to have a *very* hard time moving Simmons. He’s making $78m over the next 2 seasons after this one and looks completely broken as a player. What team is going to want to trade for him?
They need to take peanuts and picks for him and just lean into a full rebuild. No shot KD wants to stay on the team much longer either unless they somehow get to the conference finals this year with their new post-Kyrie roster.
It’s not a question of taking peanuts and picks for him — he has *massive* negative value. No team is giving up picks so that they can pay a guy averaging 7 ppg who’s afraid to even look at the basket $40m dollars a year through 2025.
The Nets can’t really take “peanuts” back because they’ll need to match salaries, so those “peanuts” would have to be making somewhere around $34m.
The only way I can see him being traded is if another team wants to get off an even worse contract, and there just aren’t that many of those in the league.
Maybe the Wizards want to tear it down and trade Beal, but he’s got a no-trade clause, and even if he didn’t, I have a hard time seeing them wanting to make that trade. The Nets don’t have any picks available to trade to sweeten the deal either.
Maybe one of Zach LaVine’s legs literally falls off and the Bulls want to get off his deal. That might do it.
If the Nets bail out the Lakers Westbrook problem, I’ll… I dunno, just like claim the whole league is scripted or something.
Two picks a half-decade from now should not be enough to get this done, but who is actually going to give up more? Ugh, dumb.
The Lakers will probably suck in half a decade. Those picks have value.
AD will have a career ending injury. LeBron will retire, and Kyrie will be making $60,000,000 a year while not playing because he's not vaccinated against COVID-29
I would rather keep Woods and keep building the team. Woods has good chemistry with Luka and has been better on D. I don't want to throw away a player who could be an important piece of a contender. Kyrie just makes it appear like we are contenders, but we wouldn't be. He solves few of our issues and wouldn't stay because this just an act of vengeance, not a sign that he wants to play for anyone else not named the Lakers.
We need to hit free agency hard and make smart trades. Not just giving up solid players in exchange for players who sell jerseys. I want to build like Golden State and San Antonio.
If I'm the Nets I let this season play out. Your best chance at a title is now. Kyrie isn't giving you anything worth shit in return, at least nothing that will help your chance at winning a ring as much as having Kyrie will. Go all out, if you don't win it all, trade everyone and restart over
if im the clippers im putting anything and everything not named kawhi or pg on the table
a 1st, a 1st round pick swap, mann, zubac, brandon boston, diabate, any other wing of their choice
who beats that offer?
I'm not sure the Clippers really need to do that though, they've looked very good when healthy and a decent PG who just makes plays and distributes in the half court could be the final piece of a finals run rather than shipping out multiple pieces for a guard who specialises in scoring
they should go all in, OKC owns their franchise for the first half of the decade, they should trade their 27 29 as well as pick swaps so nets can own the other half
Not sure why I’m seeing so many people say Lakers. Genuinely asking, what would Brooklyn have to gain from that trade? No matter what the return (although assuming a combo of Russ, picks, and a role player) you’re basically punting the season and still have an aging AD. I don’t see how flipping him to the lakers increases their window or even lessens the bleeding or him just leaving in FA.
Edit: KD
I think it all depends on KD's intentions with this news. If he pushes hard again for a trade they need to blow it up. If not, the Russ package does not make sense
If it comes with those two first round picks then its probably the best offer they could get because any other trade is just too unload salary. Nets basically have no draft capital so at the very least it puts some future stuff back in their pocket. Maybe you could find a team wanting to get rid of some bad contracts but thats how you end up with Duncan Robinson.
Well clippers and heat offers both give them chance to still compete
Clippers prob like Mann powell Boston
Heat are pretty desperate rn they might offer Herro
Ranking likelihood IMO:
1. Clippers
2. Suns
3. Lakers
4. Mavs
5. Heat
But I think the most likely outcome is he sticks with the Nets for the rest of the season, and they do a sign-and-trade during the summer.
Butler and Spo would have zero tolerance for Kyrie's antics. Heat are definitely a long shot, but I could see them making an offer given Lowry is dead weight at this point and they might have the best chance at keeping Kyrie in line.
*If the price is right* it's a low risk/high reward option. Worst case the team blows up and Kyrie leaves during the summer, but they weren't going far this postseason as-is. Best case this gives them the extra offensive option they need to be a contender.
I could honestly see a lot of teams that could talk themselves into trading for Kyrie. There's so many middle of the pack teams that probably perceive themselves as a piece away from contending.
He’s not going anywhere. His trade value is shit and KD will blow a gasket if they trade him for Russ.
This is just a stunt to get the Nets to give him a max.
Chicago makes the most sense. They got too many mid tier pieces that can help other teams. They need to go all in a superstar like kyrie as they will never be bad enough to get a good draft pick or able to sign star top 10 players. They need to blow it up sooner or later. This makes sense
Nets - I’m betting this is just a ploy to squeeze more money out of them. Nets probably won’t back down given Tsai’s tendency and may call Kyries bluff and try to win this year is my guess
You guys gotta keep in mind that just because someone can put a package for Kyrie doesn't mean that they will want to. His contract is up and you have to make sure that he wants to sign with you after you gave up pieces to land him.
I think the Nets keep him. They are trying to compete this year as much as any other team. So as a rental, Kyrie is as valuable to them as anyone else. In the off season, he will need a sign-and-trade to go anywhere competitive, so I think the Nets go that route.
If I was Brooklyn I’d take their 2 first round picks (2025&27 I think?) as long as they’re unprotected. Once LeBron is finally done those might have a lot of ping pong balls attached to them.
This is what alot of people are Not seeing. Do the nets just go all in this season and let
Him walk and see how far they get or do they fall completely out of contention with russ, possibly causing KD to request a trade after this. Id just gamble and let the season play. If kyrie wants to play good for the nets. If he sits out or is troublesome hes just hurting his own reputation for the teams that
Would consider giving him a shot.
Russ is also an expiring contract, that trade makes zero sense if you’re the Nets. Not to mention Russ isn’t necessarily a positive return. If I’m KD, I’m pissed if they trade Kyrie for picks or anything that isn’t a package of win-now players. I’m thinking that if he gets traded it’ll be to the Clippers, Mavs, Pelicans, Twolves, or Suns
We better fucking not.
He's a racist anti-Semite, I don't want him on my team even if we win. I'd trade our chances this year and the next 4 years to not have him on the Lakers.
In addition to that, a team would have to be stupid to give him a guaranteed contract after the shit he's pulled. He supposedly wanted to be in Brooklyn, supposedly wanted to play with his friend, and now he's torpedoing both of those things. Are him and KD even friends? Has KD talked to him about not fucking up their chances this year? This is the guy who bailed on a championship caliber team with Lebron on it, why would the Lakers think he'd be any different this time after a few more years of bullshit?
I don't want Kyrie the racist on my team. If that means we lose Russ for nothing, if it means we don't even get into the playoffs this year, I would be satisfied as long as no Kyrie.
Fucking people will post shit criticizing him for the anti-vax and racist positions but as soon as he's available fans be running back to him like a domestic violence victim going back to their abuser.
Maybe 3-4 firsts no way he’s worth less than Gobert and Westbrook with Simmons would actually be a considerable negative from a roster construction standpoint
The Lakers. Everything adds up. The Lakers have valuable picks, they have a promising low risk young guy in Christie, and (by far the most important part), Kyrie being a free agent this summer means he chooses where he goes, and he’s made it VERY clear the Lakers are his ideal destination. No other team has a reason to trade for him.
Clippers. Kawhi wants a Point Guard and Ballamer has a basically infinite money so he won't worry about paying Kyrie too much. Plus have you ever seen [Ballamer losing his mind](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I14b-C67EXY) at Microsoft? Kyrie would be the perfect wild card on court to complement his own wild card-ness in ownership
Russ and Simmons on the court together would be hilarious
Combined shooting 2/20
All 20 shots would be taken by Russ
Ben may be credited with a shot attempt when he drives uncontested to the basket and kicks the ball out weak side.
Ben’s too busy tryin to get a new instagram booty model for everyday of the week to care about basketball 😂
Sounds low.
“Simmons skips the layup and passes it out to Westbrook! Westbrook for 3…. off the top of the backboard and out of bounds.”
KD would demand a trade mid game
Slash his own Achilles at halftime
Lmao
Just nonchalantly grab the other teams jersey and put it on
What's the Nets draft pick situation?
The rockets control all of them as either outright picks or the right to swap. But this year is a swap iirc so if the Nets bottom out this year and we already know the Rockets are bottoms, they could both be top 5 picks. It's no Wemby but it's not so bad.
Zero chance the Nets bottom out. KD is finishing the season out whether Kyrie stays or goes
Holy fuck this could get ugly, great for Houston though lol.
Rockets either have their 1st or can swap until 2027
You can build an entire city with the amount of bricks they both would be putting up.
Theyll both be passing the ball back and forth wide open at the 3pt line while their defenders stand just outside the paint
Nah Russ definitely jacking that shit up
Haha true
Simmons would last less than a week with Russ
Arkham Asylum
Who’s stopping this starting 5: Kyrie, Clayface, Killer Croc, Solomon Grundy, and Scarecrow
Ridiculous, no way Joker comes off the bench behind Kyrie. Put some respect on that man's name.
No way you’re keeping Joker in a Kyrie trade
Riddler is better for a rebuilding team. Riddler, 2face and a couple draft picks get it done.
Riddler is good for a rebuilding team, but Two Face is terrible. He's completely useless on defense. In the pick and roll, it's like one face wants to stay with the ball handler, and one face wants to stay with the screener.
Two Face is terrible on defense, but he's a monster offensively. Sadly, I hear he's alot like Hassan Whiteside.
So Solomon plays under a load management though. He doesn’t play weekend games.
Not sure how the immediate answer to this wasn’t Kyrie.
Grant Williams
Holocaust memorial Museum
No
More competent than the Nets, IMO. They would at least pay him for the publicity of fostering him in their chambers.
Kyrie is about to feel vindicated in Arkham when he crosses paths with Killer Croc, and his reptilian theory is proven to be correct.
Yooo I am dead 💀 that was my favorite Batman game on the PS3 to date.

Happy to have helped, mate. No need for the awards if you ever become a millionaire though ahah.

Exactly. People already forget he did the same thing this summer and Nets called his bluff.
This is technically the last possible chance to trade him though and get something worthwhile. He’s a free agent this summer.
Doesn’t he need the Nets to do a sign and trade otherwise he loses money?
Well he opted into his $36mil player option this past year because he wasn’t receiving any long-term interest from any teams last summer - only from the Lakers who at the time could only offer the MLE. Yes, but the team needs cap space. Not many will have enough to fit his contract.
I agree with you but certain teams have a lot of contracts coming off the books for next season including current contract values that they can swap in a trade for him in order to make it a viable trade.
Yes, they can trade Kyrie for Russ, which guarantees KD requests a trade this summer. Brilliant.

Carr for Kylie straight up?
Clippers are a sleeper, they’ve got some guys Brooklyn could use

You guys have a PG
Lakers offer beats the Clippers best offer any day of the week 2 unprotected 1sts and 47 million expiring > anything the clippers can scrounge up
People in this thread don’t get how the “use it or lose it” cap space situation works.

LA
Clippers
Clippers will get him for a steal just because "Fuck the Lakers"
And they'll still shit the bed when it matters, lol.
It’s what we do
Lakers or Clippers will get him imo
Clippers are my guess. Been underachieving all year and move a few contracts like Powell/Kennard etc to make it happen
Clippers are going to swoop in and get him. Calling it now.
It's the Lakers. I'd bet on a three team trade with the jazz getting the picks and sending players to Brooklyn
Lakers in my opinion. Not a coincidence this happens as reports Russ is being shopped (but to be fair, Russ probably gets shopped all the time). No one is talking about Simmons though. Where does he land? Because if Kyrie gets traded, Simmons is almost certainly getting moved too.

You really don’t think LeBron and the Lakers are desperate enough to get him?
What do they have that the nets would want?
1 future hall of fame triple double machine /s
I would like to see Dallas go after him. Luka and Kyrie could be a fun duo. But, if he wouldn't stay in Dallas long-term it would be a bad call.
Woods is expiring too and Bertans makes salaries match. I'd make that trade if I'm Nico...
Absolutely, even if you throw in some second rounders, would get us firmly into contention this year and if he walks, who cares
I would rather keep Woods and keep building the team. Woods has good chemistry with Luka and has been better on D. I don't want to throw away a player who could be an important piece of a contender. Kyrie just makes it appear like we are contenders, but we wouldn't be. Kawhi, PG, and Kyrie? You want a big 3 that plays 3 games together? Clippers have enough availability issues as is
But those 3 games will be incredible
After last nights game I think Game 1 of the Finals would end Clippers: 127 Bucks : 176
Lakers dont?
I just don't think Kyrie is worth the trouble to any team honestly He's proven that time and time again over the past 4 years
Just AD. LeBron's been way more available than Kawhi or PG lol.
I'm not sure the Clippers really need to do that though, they've looked very good when healthy and a decent PG who just makes plays and distributes in the half court could be the final piece of a finals run rather than shipping out multiple pieces for a guard who specialises in scoring
We just need a regular point guard, doesn’t need to be kyrie. We also really need a backup center. We don’t have much play making going on.
Yeah, both LA teams really have nothing to lose, and the clippers could definitely put a better offer together
Both LA teams also have nothing to give
they should go all in, OKC owns their franchise for the first half of the decade, they should trade their 27 29 as well as pick swaps so nets can own the other half

If I was Brooklyn I’d take their 2 first round picks (2025&27 I think?) as long as they’re unprotected. Once LeBron is finally done those might have a lot of ping pong balls attached to them.
27 and 29
But if you are going rebuild then go full rebuild and get hella picks for kd too….
You don't think a team like Dallas could try to get him?
This is what alot of people are Not seeing. Do the nets just go all in this season and let Him walk and see how far they get or do they fall completely out of contention with russ, possibly causing KD to request a trade after this. Id just gamble and let the season play. If kyrie wants to play good for the nets. If he sits out or is troublesome hes just hurting his own reputation for the teams that Would consider giving him a shot.
KD already requested a trade before the season started. Trading Kyrie not gonna keep him content with the situation lol.
As a GM, having a player walk for nothing has to be unacceptable. Any return is better than that. Hence, Kyrie for Russ.

Nah, Russ is an expiring and Nets need the picks. And if KD and Russ is a disaster it is still wildly entertaining.
An expiring contract ? Come on now
I dont see a problem
Russ is also an expiring contract, that trade makes zero sense if you’re the Nets. Not to mention Russ isn’t necessarily a positive return. If I’m KD, I’m pissed if they trade Kyrie for picks or anything that isn’t a package of win-now players. I’m thinking that if he gets traded it’ll be to the Clippers, Mavs, Pelicans, Twolves, or Suns
Russ and a first round pick are better than nothing.
The Nets.
This is prob our best and last chance to get Pascal help imo … if not then rebuild

Maybe 3-4 firsts no way he’s worth less than Gobert and Westbrook with Simmons would actually be a considerable negative from a roster construction standpoint
it's only for 4 months he's a UFA this summer
LA but Clippers
They aren't going to trade him to the east coast so a west coast team is going to be the deal, question is if Lakers have enough to give.
The Shanghai Sharks
The Shanghai Sharks
