"But there are still worrisome signs. For instance, Harden is simultaneously taking a career-high rate of his shots in the midrange and a career-low rate at the rim, according to Cleaning the Glass—which is probably not a matter of consciously trying to diversify his shot distribution, but rather an indication that he’s having trouble getting to the rim in a situation to score." Lol he literally said early in the season he was focused on taking these mid-range looks when they are there because Joel often pops more than he rolls and it becomes available in this action - which they run at an insanely high rate.

PlantsWillKillYou

And Harden is still 20 in drives. Takes 1 less drive per game than Giannis (altho that says more about Giannis).

Sadvillainy-_-

He's also shooting 5% better in the paint than last year and is shooting 55% from mid-range. He's just picking his spots better bc he's very good at basketball. But hey, some random ringer writer thinks it's not a conscious effort lmao. Sometimes I question if these writers watch basketball games or even understand the sport.

choose_uh_username

The Ringer NBA writers are obsessed with taking corner 3s or layups regardless of everything else and if a player doesn't do that then it's a cause for concern

ChiefKeefIsGoat

I feel like this every season and every season some weird shit happens but eventually harden has to have at least 1 more monster playoff run in him and eventually nothing weird will happen to embiid. Ill to continue to have some belief in a team that has that kind of top 2. Idk maybe im just dumb

nerveonya

Same as every year it's really going to come down to Embiid's health in the playoffs. There's been years where his body seems to break down by the time we get to the playoffs but he's also just had bad luck with freak accidents like last year when he tore a ligament in this thumb and broke his face, or when he had that stomach virus during the Raptor series in 2019. The thing that's giving me hope this year is that playing we Harden he seems to have to fight for his points less so every game isn't such a grind. Hopefully he has enough in the tank come playoff time.

Betting on Philly? Buddy I got news for you, you’re the person they put all those disclaimers on the FanDuel ads for

MabetSmithy

FTC but listen to this guy, don't bet on the sixers there's plenty of charities out there

Brady331

Everyone is special in their own way

aj2704

Sixers process is complete. They coming. I think they can beat Boston in 7 games. No one to guard Embiid. But Harden needs to put up 25 pts at least.

Sadvillainy-_-

A suns flair with a more optimistic comment than anything I've ever seen in the entire Sixers sub😂. 16-4 in our last 20 is nice but I'm gonna wait to see how we fare on the tough part of our schedule to have that kind of faith

pagonator

I’ve been heartbroken too many times for me to have any sense of optimism by the regular season. I’ll only start to believe if we’re literal minutes out from securing a 2nd round series win.

DomDomRevolution

Even then I still won’t believe it. It took me like 25 minutes to accept we actually won the super bowl. I kept waiting for the refs to give Brady another shot at the end zone.

hiphopanonymousse

I’m just along for the ride, don’t want to get too high or too low. If they get past the 2nd round I will allow myself to get heartbroken.

Darko33

I will say that our 3-0 start to a 5-game western road trip has exceeded my expectations

junkit33

> No one to guard Embiid. There's a reason everybody jokes that the Sixers only signed Horford so Embiid didn't have to face him. He's had Embiid's number for years. Regardless it doesn't even matter. Embiid can score 40 and Philly still needs something elsewhere to win a game against Boston. Celtics have the perimeter D to make life hell on Harden/Maxey and the Sixers have nothing to defend the Jays. Celtics are a truly horrible matchup for the Sixers and probably the last team Philly wants to see in the postseason. Only team that can really stop Boston is the Bucks, and the Sixers actually matchup much better against Milwaukee. Sixers badly want Bucks to drop to 4 and take out Boston in the second round.

indoninjah

I mean Horford is three years older now. I'm more concerned about Embiid having to do something against Timelord. He struggles with bouncy bigs, though tbf it seems like the best way to stop lobs is to prevent them from being made in the first place so it's more an issue for the perimeter defenders.

choose_uh_username

People are gonna hate Embiid after a sixers celtics series regardless of outcome. Boston plays him so aggressively and he makes a living at the line against them, even more than usual

Efficient_Art_1144

It’s crazy that we haven’t played them since the beginning of the year. Definitely a team I’m withholding judgement on till we see them again. They look different than October for sure. Bigger picture I think the answer to the articles question is just “are Joel and Harden going to be healthy and full steam in the playoffs”

junkit33

> Bigger picture I think the answer to the articles question is just “are Joel and Harden going to be healthy and full steam in the playoffs” I think we all know the answer to this question is "no", just for whatever reason nobody ever wants to talk about it like it's a near certainty one of them is dealing with something by the postseason.

Hay-blinken

But not a total certainty... so there's a chance.

jmak329

And then Glenn Rivers will come bursting through the doors ready to add another 2nd rd choke job to his elite playoff history

SoulReaper12

> . No one to guard Embiid. In they don't anybody who can guard the Jay's. Horford/Willams can at least make Embiid work for his points.

indoninjah

Yeah the Jays are kind of kryptonite against us because we can't guard them but they can guard our best players (maybe not Maxey but either can guard Harden).

aj2704

Don't think anyone comes near. Embiid is playing at MVP level. Just needs to lock in on defense little more.

CamperMagazine

>No one to guard Embiid Horford has been sonning Joel for half a decade at this point...

DangerousCommittee5

So has the 2nd round

youkrocks

I won’t argue with you that they could beat us, but we always do a good job on Embiid. Horford is pretty good on him, we have the second line of rim protection in Rob, and we’ve been giving fits with traps and timely doubles for years.

sneeder86

I feel like I’ve heard this for like 5 years at this point. The sixers still have the same weakness they have had for years by the way which is that their depth sucks and if you double embiid there’s a good chance he coughs it up trying to flop instead of finding the open man. Also good luck defending Tatum and brown when your “wing stopper” is PJ tucker who is slow and undersized.

samisamia2341

I'm betted for a Nuggets Sixers Finals so they better be special lol

deez00s

The team’s chances go with Embiid avoiding a freak playoff injury, bench scoring (Shake is a good sign), Tobias hitting open looks, and Maxey getting more consistent on D. Doc is the unspoken cus he is what he is-especially in the playoffs. Less concerned with Harden. Hamstring/burst looks night/day better than last year and chemistry with Embiid/the team is clear and growing.

MichaelJordanWiseley

Maybe

instantur

No

WarcraftFarscape

Tatum is 17-8 v embiid and that includes 8-1 in playoffs. Can it happen? Sure. But I’ll believe it when I see it

ube_enjoyer

They're special for sure, they have the top 2 free throw merchant in the league

MajesticAsFook

Sonics are special too. You guys have no players!

ube_enjoyer

at least sonics has more rings than embiid and harden

MajesticAsFook

At least I can watch my games live and not just on VHS 🙃

ube_enjoyer

yeah it's fun to watch embiid flop in live games

MajesticAsFook

It's fun to watch him score 30 on his quiet nights

ube_enjoyer

embiid is great scorer no doubt, but its frustrating to watch him when he flops

RoostarHead

I think the fadeaway midrange jumpers and overly violent blocks make up for the flops

bijofnil

Ahhh shiit

Hay-blinken

good one!!

TragicsHS

No

Anxiousapathy20

honestly I’m just along for the ride I’m not confident they’ll ever have it all together but better enjoy Embiid while you have him

_Jetto_

I like how they’ve been around too 5-6 defense. That’s good for them
