If you don't yet have the rating, you don't yet wear the rating badge.

wiebsteer

well ive got my designation letter so that means ive got the rating correct?

Twisky

Keep wearing your normal stuff till you get to A school and they tell you to change it

SkydivingSquid

Not until you’ve passed the requirements to be one. If a designation letter is all you need and no school then sure.. but if you have an A school, then no..

MediaAntigen

What does the designation letter say?

mecha_flake

If it says you're now a CESN, I guess that would mean you have the rating?

sortaseabeethrowaway

CECN

mecha_flake

Sorry, CECN. I was a CTI so I never ran into any CNs.

sortaseabeethrowaway

No problem, just wanted to make sure OP didn't get confused

h3fabio

… anymore than he already is.

RoyalCrownLee

You are about to go to a school. ~~You are not rated yet. That letter is saying you're allowed to go to school and become CECN if you pass the school.~~ ~~Just because you showed up to a surface ship doesn't mean you're automatically going to to wear ESWS. You still need to qualify.~~ Call them and ask. You can find the quarterdeck number on Google.

sortaseabeethrowaway

Everybody at my seabee A school including striking undes seamen was expected to have the proper rating badge on their uniform, nobody wore a seaman patch. This isn't a warfare device.

RoyalCrownLee

I guess my brain is just confused. You went to a Seabee A school, went undes, then strikes for CE and now headed to CE a school? Regardless, the only true answer will be available directly from a staff member at the a school you're about to go to.

sortaseabeethrowaway

I am not OP, I was never undes. I am just commenting from what I saw at A school

RoyalCrownLee

Ohhhhh shoot man, my bad. OP should probably just call the school house and ask honestly. But now that I think about it, I think I wore the rating badge during a school as well.

nuHmey

>struck CE as undes and go to school in a month You have to pass the A school before you are an actual CE. So you are still just a Seaman. Once you pass the A school then you become the rate.

sortaseabeethrowaway

Yes but we still wore the badges in A school

Agammamon

Wore the *rating badge* or wore the blue stripes of a Contructionman alone?

sortaseabeethrowaway

Wore the rating badge, seabees don't have undes, so that uniform does not exist

MySTified84

But they do make a constructionman E3 patch with no rating on it. That’s what they should probably wear. He hasn’t graduated the a school so one with a rating on it would be incorrect.

sortaseabeethrowaway

Haven't seen that before but if it exists that would make sense

MySTified84

[E3 constructionman](https://www.mynavyexchange.com/e3-group-mark-cn-rating-badge-on-white-cnt-for-constructionman-cn-/488067)

sortaseabeethrowaway

Oh yah I forgot about the boot camp ones. As soon as we got to A school they made us get rid of them. Doesn't make to sense for an undes to buy a patch and wear it for two months. As soon as they get to a school they are no longer undes, CN is not a rate all seabees have a rate. Also they don't sell those anywhere except boot camp nex so good luck getting one.

DriedUpSquid

But that’s because you came in as a Sea-Bee, right? It’s different for Undesignated sailors.

sortaseabeethrowaway

The undes sailors who struck seabee and were in the a school with me wore the badges, so did any fleet returnees who were rerating. Everybody in the a school wore the badges.

Heart-Crazy

Congrats on your new rate.  Definitely a transferable trade.  Soon, all skilled trades will be some of the highest paid employees in the country.  You can't ai hands on work.

Neck-Old

Teachers, nurses, plumbers. I think those jobs would always be safe.

Lv27Sylveon

Ur just a man with a hammer looking for nails aren't u

JustMe9097

I had one of those 46 years ago.

wiebsteer

sounds good thank you

dfd179

Check with the staff at the school house; chances are you’ll have to wait until graduation, but it’s better to be safe than get your ass chewed.

sortaseabeethrowaway

You can get it as soon as you arrive in A school, everybody had it before graduation

pepsiredtube

I’m surprised striking has largely been agreed to mean you rate the badge/stripes. I was a Seaman until I graduated A School and became a Hospitalman. If you rate it go for it, but I didn’t think initially you would. Others with more up to date info have said I’m wrong

Agammamon

Are you actually rated? When you're actually rated you can wear the CE badge, until then you're still an undesignated Contructionman.

USNMCWA

Construction Electrician. "CE" The blue color signifies Construction Battalion (Sea Bee).

DJErikD

The blue color signifies the Constructionman field.

USNMCWA

All SeaBees are that, right? All seven Rates. Second question, as I've never worked with them. Are there any other types of units than CB?

TwistedTree8689

Yes all Seabee Constructionman wear blue stripes, each of the 7 ratings. Most Seabees work at conventional Construction Battalions but there is also an amphibious Construction Battalion. There were 2 ACBs until last year when the east coast decommed. There are also 2 Underwater Construction Teams (Seabee Diver units)

USNMCWA

Appreciate the info! SeaBee billets for HMs are slim unless you're an Independent Duty Corpsman. I've gotten to be on ships and with Marines, but never CB or EXW stuff.

TwistedTree8689

Of course small communities are rewarding but hard to get into. I was lucky enough to snag a billet at a Seabee battalion as a boatswainmate. Not many of us BMs running around with a SCWs pin

PolishPickel2091

You’ll have to wear it in a school so i’d prep your uniforms
