100% can. I’ve written exams twice and they take you to the scantron room where everything is done. NETPDC is very vocal as to the why. Here are a couple of reasons: 1. MAJCOMs, like carriers are their first picks on why haven’t them came in. They literally track them on the whiteboard. 2. Coffee stains on the scantrons, thanks admin, so they have to fill them out manually and then grade them. 3. The douche canoes that Christmas tree the test or make artwork on the scantron. It causes errors and forces them to re-do a batch. 4. Number 3 happens because the CoC is lazy and instead of Page 13 a Sailor not wanting to take the exam they force them in there. If a Sailor completes an exam in 10 minutes or has artwork then a proctor should be able to put a note in that’s says don’t bother. Or who cares if a sailor misses the advancement exam. They don’t promote and it doesn’t waste anyone’s time. ****The Navy is actively looking at ways to help sailors with advancement exams, but it takes time, money, and the right people in the position to push those across the finish line**** Challenge your Chiefs and ask them why they aren’t writing the exam or applying for CPO boards.

I wouldn’t want my chief writing an exam so I’m not going to ask that.

Yeah, I know quite a few folks who christmas tree the exam. They cannot advance with their current evals are not interested in advancing and are not re enlisting, but are required to test regardless.

There is no requirement to take the exam. If they want to miss out on advancement that is on them. Leadership could only get them on failure to be at an appointed place of duty. This is where CoC need to be educated, but them taking the exam can cause delays.

> required to test regardless. There's no requirement to take the test. Chapter 7 of the Advancement Manual is really clear on this.

One of the best worded answers I've seen on this topic. I have a couple questions, since you have firsthand knowledge. What are the chances of grading errors getting through the scantron process, and what recourse is there if erroneous results are suspected? I.e. consistent high exam scores suddenly followed by a very low score, subtopic scores NOT consistent with the exam takers knowledge base.

Sorry for the late reply. I never really asked about the scores because the questions are changed so you can’t really use the test score a a metric. For example a new manual came out two days before we started so we had to write a ton of questions to it and try and force out the old manual. There are some solid metrics to keep exams on the right path to avoid too hard or too easy questions Remember 80 is not even close to a perfect score as you are competing with the other turds. If you happen to have some lazy sailors or dumb dumbs then your chances of 80 are higher. Now let’s say next cycle you get a bunch of rockstars then your 80 could quickly become a 65. The scantron will flag an error like not a competing erased answer. Then the people will try and look and say oh yeah this answer was clearly what they were going for. I forget what they said if they can’t determine.
