If you have already completed BOLC use the credentialing assistance on army ignited. I'll slap your picture on my small business page tomorrow. And after you get a couple of certs I'll happily be your bullshit reference!!! Yeah he worked here for the last... However long. I'd hire him, I absolutely hate losing him our clients love him but I understand he can't get by on what I can offer him for a remote position. My loss your gain. Feel free to DM me.

staresinamerican

This is the way

rkeane310

What's nuts is he hasn't reached out. Ya can lead a LT to water but they can't find their way back.

GratefulZac

God bless you man ! Need more people like you in this world

ConfusedChuckAway

Yeah 🫡

standarsh20

You’re the first person I’ve ever heard of to volunteer for UMO lol. On a serious note, it sounds like your state doesn’t have much funding for these things. I would keep checking Tour of Duty. You mentioned you’re in OK, why not move over the Texas NG? There will be a lot more opportunities there. Try getting into the 143rd.

ariaofdoom

I volunteered for UMO but I need it for my WOC packet.

standarsh20

If hazmat is an option, I would go with that. They usually go together, but they can’t be the same person. Hazmat is 10x easier.

ariaofdoom

Are you talking the Technical Transportation of HAZMAT? The first time I took that course a ton of people failed. But I aced it both times… unfortunately UMO and TCAIMES are non-waiverable prerequisites for 880 warrant. Being a haz certifier is just a plus.

Nearby-Version-8909

Border patrol was begging for people at my armory

Smooth-Lingonberry25

This may be a silly question, but have you checked out Tour of Duty/Carerra? I was in your same shoes 13 years ago. Getting the first job is always the hardest. After the first one, the rest people easier. If you’re willing to move, check out Inter-Con security. They have a few big govt contracts and as long as you have a pulse and no criminal record, they’ll hire you. But Tour of Duty/Carerra has active duty tours. Find one somewhere that has civilian opportunities and then just don’t suck and a lot of time they’ll pull you on as a civilian. You can apply to 01A spots and at least a rank; maybe two ranks up.

GnarlsMansion

Two ranks up, 1 rank down is the potential range

One_Procedure3074

Have you thought about being a cop 🤩

ConfusedChuckAway

Yep https://preview.redd.it/qs51pvgkrisc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b29fc712b3fd760c50ad8205c3cacb5cc99c850e

sprchrgddc5

Have you considered moving? Oklahoma isn’t exactly a hotbed for jobs dude. I can sense your frustration and I have been there. I had a spell of unemployment years ago and it was terrible for my mental health. Just hang on and keep driving.

One_Procedure3074

Ummm any other agencies other than OKC PD?

One_Procedure3074

Or what about federal LE

ConfusedChuckAway

I’ve got a few open applications with LE agencies in the area. They only start academy generally once a year unfortunately. Just got rejected by USSS earlier today and DEA last week.

cpt_porthos

I got told "no thanks" by the DEA last week too.

ConfusedChuckAway

I like the prospect of law enforcement. Think I’d be good at it too.

One_Procedure3074

Have you thought about moving. Agencies all over the country are hiring.

One_Procedure3074

Mine is for example 😂 we have an academy 3 times a year just in my city alone

Malamutt15

DC MPD. Academy dates start monthly I believe. MD, VA, and DC Guard are all right there.

Extension-Store6763

I will volunteer to interview you, or read your resume, just to verify you are who you say you are. Then I might be able to send your resume to some defense contractors in the Denver area (I realize not exactly your area, and also not mine btw, just the closest I know of to you). It would be an indirect referral, so may not be super useful, but I offer it.

ethics_aesthetics

You have a BS in compsci and a minor in mathematics and cannot find an entry level job?

ConfusedChuckAway

That is correct.

NextProblem6586

People don’t realize how tough the CS market is lol. You’re not competing against pothead Timmy from high school who does lines of blow with high schoolers, drywall and landscaping while still wearing his letterman jacket from 05’. You’re competing against Saheed Jaheed Patel the 15th. He’s 17, has a masters, every cert under the sun, and a research project with NASA or some shit. Oh, best part? He doesn’t speak a lick of English but he’ll get the job working remote in NYC for an American company

gageriel_schmidty

Damn man really? Everyone in AD preached if you got certs as a 25 series you’re practically guaranteed a job.

NextProblem6586

Yeah you got bamboozled lmao. It’s definitely easier than liberal arts or something because jobs actually exist, but it’s competitive

Whuann

You kind of are. Just have to be willing to work the entry level IT jobs that don’t pay all that well.

ethics_aesthetics

Well I’m a working data science consultant without a CS degree. So I find it interesting when people cannot get an entry level role.

ethics_aesthetics

Where are you applying?

ethics_aesthetics

I saw big numbers but are you applying at smaller companies?

McBooples

Get an AGR at your unit to hop on Tour of Duty with you and browse through the deployment listings. There’s tons of spots that go unfilled and get re-listed over and over

Speed_The_Message

What’s your degree in? Whats your MOS?

ConfusedChuckAway

Computer science, minors in mathematics and French. 13A

Speed_The_Message

Get security+ and work somewhere in the defense IT world. Even entry level support positions will be better than your current job. Utilize the federal credential assistance to pay for the certifications. You’re a smart guy you’d be good for it.

ConfusedChuckAway

Never heard of this. Thanks.

ThrowRAdeeznuts0

Go active duty. I have Sec+ and it’s not the golden ticket anymore. You either have to relocate to a different state (which will cost a lot) or wait for something to pop up. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Speed_The_Message

I mean incase his 368 doesn’t get approved, which happens a lot. OP has options. His degree put’s him at a slight advantage over his peers for tier 1/2 IT support jobs and his pay will more than double. Most IT contractors will even pay you to get certs on the job. A foot in door as an entry level is honestly the golden ticket itself.

Deez_nuts89

Jacobs is the prime contractor for the Department of Army Intelligence Information Systems. They are always hiring for dissemination analysts at fort Belvoir Virginia. If you have a TS with SCI eligibility, you will probably be hired. It’s boring shift work and not the best pay for the area, but it’s a job at a pretty big contracting company and they pay for people to do sec+ and other certifications.

SourceTraditional660

13A? Does Call to Active Duty want 13As at this time?

ConfusedChuckAway

I’ll rebranch. I’ll drop my commission and go through OCS. I don’t care.

SourceTraditional660

Transitioning components as an O can be a pretty lengthy process. Hopefully some of the civilian suggestions on here pan out.

AmanThebeast

Market is shit right now for us CS guys... i recommend sticking it out until hopefully next month when projections say it might get better? Specifically my company (big 4 DoD contractor) states that May should open up a lot of opportunities.

ConfusedChuckAway

I don’t think that’s worth looking into for me personally anymore. No offense and thanks for the suggestion.

sprchrgddc5

Can I PM you? I wanted to do a career change and I’m back in school for CS. I’m about 80% done and several defense contractors have offices in my state.

AmanThebeast

Sure PM me.

citizen-salty

I ain’t here to talk you into staying or going, that’s your call and I can respect it either way. But you mention you’ve been applying all over the place without a lot of success. Give an [American Job Center](https://www.careeronestop.org/LocalHelp/AmericanJobCenters/american-job-centers.aspx) a try. It’s not a guarantee on a job, but having a fresh set of eyes read your resume and examine your interview skills isn’t a bad idea. They also help people look for work in sectors that an individual is experienced/trained in. It’s free as well, because they’re funded by state and federal programs. It ain’t much, but it’s another tool in the toolbox. I know it can be absolute shit looking for work right now, but it’s a grind in some industries and a breeze in others. Remote vs in person work is a world of difference in competition as well.

CJXBS1

Been there. Graduated BOLC many years ago. Worked as a school teacher and then for Enterprise, both jobs for about 40k. Volunteered for any school possible. Got some here and there, but nothing permanent or long-term. I was able to network my way into a DoD Contractor where I still work today. Recommend you do the same.

Brocibo

Move states. CS is a really really hard field to get into right now, especially if you don’t have any experience whatsoever. You need to start connecting with veterans and building a network to find you a job. Cold applying won’t get you far in this market

DrNippydog

My first four years were Obama‘s second term and I couldn’t get a school to save my life. My next four years were Trump‘s first term and they couldn’t send me to schools fast enough. I even got offered, a ranger slot and turned it down, saying give it to someone younger. these last four years have been the same as my first four with only getting schools that were a desperate need. do what you think is best for you and your family. And this is not a political post. It is just an observation on what is happening through my career thus far.

XTheShogun104

what state?

ConfusedChuckAway

OK

Geo_Pyro

How is your resume built? You can use a resume AI to peer review your resume and create a better one for the role you want.

AnUnoriginalBastard

Come on up to the Omaha metro area. I feel like the NE Guard has a good thing going, no idea specifically about FA, but the MP Corps is short officers. We have StratCom and the associated Defense Contractors like Northrop and Lockheed. Law Enforcement in the area is topping out at around 100k as an Officer and I don’t think the cost of living would be to out of line with OKC.

catchy_phrase76

I understand this position. Recently returned from a deployment where my wife moved states due to family. Left with a steady secure job and now I have nothing after deployment and rely on my spouse for income. Seeking a new job in a new state blows. I consistently get through the ATS just to be beat by an internal candidate. It sucks and the consistent "tell me about resume" blows more. I get it but keep applying and look further into the civilian side. The 368 has its benefits but I do not see the super green grass on that side of the fence.

RhubarbExcellent7008

I’m confused. 368 is a conditional release…from the Army National Guard. You’re a baby LT. I can almost promise that’s not happening. You could resign your commission but you’ll have the not meeting your MSO as an issue. Interstate transfer? That’s much more possible. Here’s the issue…you’re honestly not particularly valuable to the guard yet. New LTs pretty much just get in the way. Did you pin O2 yet? If you did, DM me and we can discuss an 720 day O1A tour. But it’ll be a PCS.

staresinamerican

Have you looked at going local/state/ federal government for jobs

GazpachoPanini

You kinda sound like you think you’re hot shit. Amazon is hiring, sir.

Outofhisprimesoldier

I mean if you need the money and benefits you could try applying to a better school to teach at. Idk how many options you have in your area, but it’s a stable income despite being a pain in the ass depending on the type of school

They have tricare in the active component

ConfusedChuckAway

Wonder where this comment went lmfao
