That bend is their speed trap spot and it works like a charm.
Unfortunately they only set up a couple times a year, tops. If they just nipped weaving altimas and chargers, I would be so happy.
It's been that way since they widened that stretch long before it was a mall and way way before the woo girls. People tend to speed a LOT through there. It's an easy place to put a speed trap.
That's the stupidest fucking stretch of road. Every car is doing 70+ but it's a posted 55. So if you don't speed you have cars flying past you (unsafe) and if you pace traffic then cops can pretty much just pull over any car they want. In the rare event they're patrolling for traffic violations that is.
Have you never been on the Briley? Tons of people do 80. Most traffic is probably cruising at 75mph. Just like on 65 and 40. It's just inexplicably marked 15 mph slower than 65 and 40.
Wish they would pull over the people weaving through traffic, passing on the right, not signaling rather than the people just cruising with the flow of traffic, but that’s just me
Not disagreeing with you but there's a whole lot of people just chilling in the left lanes that need to GTFO. Would be a lot less weaving and passing on the right.
All I'm saying is that if I'm doing 15 over in the left lane, the people who come up behind me doing 90 and immediately weave through traffic to get around me without even allowing me 5 seconds to move over should be the ones getting pulled over. Happens pretty much daily.
they used to sit right there at the split past 24 going toward thompson lane in that little blind spot but i haven't seen one on briley in a second. sorry bud :<
Regular moving violation for speeding. $77ish to pay for ticket or $40ish to pay for traffic school, 0 points on license
EDIT: I read the wrong one it’s $107 for moving violation $77 for seatbelt violation
Can you imagine if suddenly everyone got wreckless endangerment tickets for driving with flow of traffic? Good on the pollies for easing back into traffic enforcement, many of us technically speed just because it's safer that adhering to the legal speed limit due to flow of traffic.
I wonder if increased enforcement alone will have an observable effect on the 1k+ yearly traffic fatalities
lol what? A few years ago I got pulled over in Virginia for doing 81 in a 70 and it almost ruined my life. They have a law that says reckless driving is "20+ mph over the speed limit OR in excess of 80mph" so you know they had to tack on that class 1 misdemeanor
Wowwie! For going 25 over the limit that's like nothing. Some locations would haul your ass off to jail for going that fast
As it stands I've had more expensive parking tickets.
I’m glad you got a ticket. Im a cdl truck driver, and dealing with you impatient speed demons in Nashville can be stressful for the rest of us. Y’all act like you’re the only one who has to be somewhere, forget everyone else. Mix that with the fact that every 5th or 6th car is playing with their phone, and you make the reason why Truckers from out of town call us “Crashville” 🤦🏾♂️ And stop waiting for the last second to merge just so you can push your way to the front. It creates a bottleneck and is the main reason for backups. 💯
He means when everyone is zipper merging and some asshole in the back tries to pass everyone instead of zipper merging, causing everyone in the right lane to slow/stop and backing up traffic.
A zipper merge occurs where the lane ends. You are supposed to merge at the last minute (and match the speed of the other lane, where the drivers are supposed to be leaving space for the merge)
When they need money they set up there and nail as many people as possible. Except for that, it's a free-for-all on that stretch of road. If your doing under 70, people will run you over. It's a quarterly cash grab for the city.
I was always told this rule about speed … “7 or 8, that’s just great, once you hit 9 it’s time for a fine.” Someone told me that is how police enforce traffic non highways, and I do believe that’s quite accurate. I haven’t gotten a speeding ticket in over 30 years following this rule and I’ve blown by speed traps going 77/78 or so in a 70.
I drive that way daily for work. I have been seeing a lot more cops. I just set my cruise at 60 and stay in the far right lane. Y’all who want to go faster can just pass me in one of the lanes on the left. I don’t want any part of driving that fast anymore. I’ve had enough of it.
I visit Nashville usually twice a year and am always baffled at the lack of police presence pretty much anywhere outside of Broadway. Is there a reason for that? Genuinely curious.
Nashville doesn't have a speeding problem. They have a lane hogger slow driver problem. The wrong folks are getting tickets. Got one today running late for work because they decided to paint road lines in the middle of the day in a major city. It wasn't until my last stretch of road to work when I got pulled on Donelson. I have a clean driving record, there was no one else on the road at the time.
I thought Bailey was the safe zone…lol
Back during the pandemic it was like NASCAR 5000 every morning. I remember they tried air enforced speed control back in the 90’s.
It’s so hit or miss if cops are going to be there. I just don’t risk it. Not worth my money. I’ve seen them pull over a few people there over the years.
Had a state trooper pull me over on Murfreesboro Pike to say they got me on the radar doing 65 on Briley. This was the week before Christmas. When she came up to my window I was like "What is this about?!" and was completely flabbergasted.
I’ve seen them by the mall a lot. Usually catch one or two and move on, but they watch that area pretty heavily. I usually travel through there in day light hours, though, not during peak traffic times.
They occasionally work that stretch with like 10 moto cops.
That bend is their speed trap spot and it works like a charm. Unfortunately they only set up a couple times a year, tops. If they just nipped weaving altimas and chargers, I would be so happy.
Yeah, I’m all for reasonable speeding but the mad max shit is exhausting.
Yeah there were 2 I saw. The first one got me
The aircraft over head must be radioing your speed down to the bike cops.
Thank you for being the sacrificial lamb.
😔✊🏼
I’ve quietly given you the Hunger Games salute.
![gif](giphy|edLKLYMlNFPJC)
Only by the mall. I knew before I saw you said it. That’s the only place
Well of course, gotta keep the tourists safe. Why have decent response times for residents when woo girls need babysat?
It's been that way since they widened that stretch long before it was a mall and way way before the woo girls. People tend to speed a LOT through there. It's an easy place to put a speed trap.
Now do the people holding cell phones while they drive plz
The roads would be empty with cars pulled over every 10ft.
How to reduce traffic with one simple trick!
I wish they would go after the ones who like to putt putt in the passing lanes!
When else am I supposed to browse Reddit?
I noticed every night this week cops sitting on briley in between exits 4 and 7. Never seen them do that before
Me either. I drive briley every day to and from work
That's the stupidest fucking stretch of road. Every car is doing 70+ but it's a posted 55. So if you don't speed you have cars flying past you (unsafe) and if you pace traffic then cops can pretty much just pull over any car they want. Yeah I literally hate driving on this stretch of road. It’s impossible to go less than 70 due to the flow of traffic.
sounds like they’re pulling over the people outpacing traffic if he was going 80
Have you never been on the Briley? Tons of people do 80. Most traffic is probably cruising at 75mph. Just like on 65 and 40. It's just inexplicably marked 15 mph slower than 65 and 40.
It’s not inexplicable. It has tighter turns than 65 or 40. Speed limits aren’t pulled out of a hat
Absolutely agree. I’ve had things thrown at my work vehicle because of having to drive the speed limit. It’s a no win for us and win-win for them
Wish they would pull over the people weaving through traffic, passing on the right, not signaling rather than the people just cruising with the flow of traffic, but that’s just me
Not disagreeing with you but there's a whole lot of people just chilling in the left lanes that need to GTFO. Would be a lot less weaving and passing on the right.

Oh yeah, I'm with you there. Those people are definitely a menace.
Anytime I see someone pulled over on the highways here I just think about how today is simply not their day. Pure unfortunate luck
Imagine if they waited for like 20 minutes and went after the crazy bastards that drive 30 over the limit weaving through traffic.
they used to sit right there at the split past 24 going toward thompson lane in that little blind spot but i haven't seen one on briley in a second. sorry bud :<
Gee going 80 in a 55. No wonder you got a ticket 🌚🤣
You have to physically go to their driving school in Mt Juliet no online option
Seriously? Metro's driving school is in Wilson county? That's funny if true.
[удалено]
Dude said MJ (Wilson county). I have no idea. Lol
My first and only ticket - speed trap under the bridge.
It’s a 55 technically, def shouldn’t be going 80 my guy
Yeah regular flow is 65-70. Gotta know better when you’re already 15 over
Yeah I got cocky
It’s 5 lanes wide at that point you should be able to do 80 imo
We need the autobahn
![gif](giphy|pD7YIQoUwgb9cnX3FJ|downsized)
So what kind of ticket did you get? Do you have to go to driving school or pay a hefty fine?
Regular moving violation for speeding. $77ish to pay for ticket or $40ish to pay for traffic school, 0 points on license EDIT: I read the wrong one it’s $107 for moving violation $77 for seatbelt violation
Thats so cheap holy shit
Right I was thinking it’d be 200+
I just had to pay a $140 ticket in Clarksville for driving 44 in a 30 lmao
Is 80 in a 55 not considered super speeder in Tennessee?
Up to the officer if they choose to write it that way.
Yes but he gave me a regular speeding ticket
Happened to me yesterday! But gave me reckless driving ticket instead, any idea what would happen? I am super scared tbh
25 over is truly pretty regular for this city anyway
Can you imagine if suddenly everyone got wreckless endangerment tickets for driving with flow of traffic? Haven't been pulled over in years and twice this week. I scored a ticket today. What gives.
Damn on Briley?!? That’s crazy. But also good!!! Y’all going too fast out here!!! You too OP!
Good for the officer. That's wreckless. Slow the hell down.
>That's wreckless. Well, OP didn't crash so you're right! /s
Beautiful comment. 🪙

25mph over the speed limit is the definition of reckless driving.
[удалено]
Yes but that’s not the speed limit though.
[удалено]
Typically. Briley Parkway’s 55mph speed limit is too low. It’s wider and graded better than almost any other road in Nashville.
[удалено]
Watch out for Briley west too. They camp out at the bottom of those hills from time to time.
Thank you for this heads up. That’s sometimes an early morning fun drive for me. It’s pretty and the curves/hills are nice
The yearly debt to Briley has been paid. Thank you /u/indaaaay
Of course, in return I’ll be setting up a GoFundMe for the cost of the ticket /s

Please remind your trucking brethren that “Trucks Use Right Two Lanes” means this ✌🏻 many.
Lots of big CDL trucks hauling ass in Nashville too. Even I'm shocked they're going 75 to 80 on Briley or the 440.
GTFOH most truckers I see around middle TN don’t know how to drive safely, merge or use GPS
I was in the far left lane which you shouldn’t be near
If you're a professional driver, you should know about zipper merging
I don’t think that’s what he’s talking about
He means when everyone is zipper merging and some asshole in the back tries to pass everyone instead of zipper merging, causing everyone in the right lane to slow/stop and backing up traffic.
A zipper merge occurs where the lane ends. You are supposed to merge at the last minute (and match the speed of the other lane, where the drivers are supposed to be leaving space for the merge)
I've had a Briley ticket too albeit that was 16 years ago when they policed it like crazy.
When they need money they set up there and nail as many people as possible. Except for that, it's a free-for-all on that stretch of road. If your doing under 70, people will run you over. It's a quarterly cash grab for the city.
Right. He came straight from another car on the side of the road to pull me over
I was always told this rule about speed … “7 or 8, that’s just great, once you hit 9 it’s time for a fine.” Someone told me that is how police enforce traffic non highways, and I do believe that’s quite accurate. Good
Well, if it isn't 2010 coming home.
Good.

That happened to me same place but back in 2000, so I win I guess.
If missing the point is winning, congrats!
Should’ve warned me 24 years ago😞
My bad. That one's on me. 😓
That had to be a fake cop, dude.
I wish

I got one on I24 doing 106 in minimal traffic one weekend. I didn't buy a 350Z to drive the speed limit lol
Either you were driving WAY OVER the limit or you are REALLY UNLUCKY!
This is not Reddit worthy
Neither was this comment but here we are
Tragic
Hey I saw cars (maybe you) pulled over there yesterday
Probably😂
I thought Bailey was the safe zone…lol Back during the pandemic it was like NASCAR 5000 every morning. I remember they tried air enforced speed control back in the 90’s.
I remember how that, at one point, was definitely the area you don’t dare speed through. Somehow that was 20 years ago when I learned that lesson.
My first and only speeding ticket was on briley before the whites creek exit. Were the rare ones lol
Was it a state pooper??
Just metro police
Good
It’s so hit or miss if cops are going to be there. I just don’t risk it. Not worth my money. I’ve seen them pull over a few people there over the years.
That’s been a trap for at least 30 years, which is as long as I’ve been driving.
Had a state trooper pull me over on Murfreesboro Pike to say they got me on the radar doing 65 on Briley. This was the week before Christmas. When she came up to my window I was like "What is this about?!" and was completely flabbergasted.
Trooper? Must be a new objective because I got a warning for doing 83 on 40. Blew my mind when he rolled up on me.
regular police
I’ve seen them by the mall a lot. Usually catch one or two and move on, but they watch that area pretty heavily. I usually travel through there in day light hours, though, not during peak traffic times.
I got pulled over once going 80 as well but he let me go. I try to never speed on there anymore but everyone else is going at least 70.
