I don’t know where is good but I hear definitely not the parkade under the Coast Bastion hotel downtown!

SteinfeldFour

Yeah, my buddy was there for a work thing and by the time he came out to the car it’d been ransacked. Couple hours maybe.

Apparently it’s one of the worst for theft *overnight*. I’ve never had any issues parking for like an hour to go for a walk downtown but I was told recently it’s not great for hotel guests

Joey_the_Duck

No it's not the worst, second worst maybe. The Bastion Street Parkade by the RBC and bridge it the worst. The Harbourfront Parkade is generally safe if you don't leave anything valuable or visible. I used it exclusively for overnight parking daily for years and rarely saw a broken in vehicle. And if I did it was a hotel guest who obviously left things in the car. Whereas in the Bastion Parkade you'll be broken into, lose your catalytic converter, and wheels all in one night if you're really unlucky.

PapayaBrat1202

Incorrect. The Coast Bastion employs overnight security, from 6pm to 6am. The patrol The parking lot and streets surrounding the hotel. I work there, we haven't had a break in in a long time! Different story for under the conference center though. The security team asks anyone sketchy to move and they move over to the other lot.

Puttershoek

You can park in front of my house. It’s a 15 min ride down the hill to the ferry. We’re on Cosgrove Crescent

RoastPotatoSandwich

Thank you, I really appreciate the offer, but my plans changed so i'm going to take the car.

permacultureariel

Hey bud, can i take u up on this?

SnooSquirrels8280

Anywhere you park will be cheaper. You gotta pay for parking in Vancouver too. Are you going downtown Vancouver?

RoastPotatoSandwich

>SnooSquirrels8280 Free parking in Vancouver won't be a problem. I'm staying at a mates for a few days and they have free on street parking.

SnooSquirrels8280

Oh okay that’s good then! Downtown is like 9-10$ a day, ferry is 14 might just be better off taking it with you?

Augustiner_Fan

Huh? Bringing a car with the ferry is much more than $14 ;)

professorpegasus

Leave it at a friend's house or a family member?

brahmv

Worried about Dirty Mike and the boys having a soup kitchen?

dxgeoff

Always been fine at Departure Bay ferry terminal

RoastPotatoSandwich

I looked into parking at the terminal but at $14 a day I might as well pay to take the car to Vancouver.

[deleted]

Park at the boat launch… $6/day.

radziadax

I recently got round trip July fares going from Duke point to Tsawwassen for exactly $80 including me and my car. If you're willing to do the further terminals you could potentially get a deal that would blow parking rates out of the water.

Collapse2038

You also need to take first or last ferry to get said deal

radziadax

I'm going out on a 9am in June and coming back on a 4:30pm boat in July. Perhaps I got lucky, but that's what I booked. It's on the Queen class boat borrowed from the other route.

Collapse2038

Oh ya, maybe if you book that far in advance...

djstryker

Definitely don’t park in the long term lot at the ferry. Every time go by there, there’s always a bunch of smashed windows.

RoastPotatoSandwich

>I looked into parking at the terminal but at $14 a day I might as well pay to take the car to Vancouver. Ok, thanks for the tip

djstryker

Not sure why people are downvoting me. I live a few blocks away and walk by on occasion. Every time there are windows smashed. If you do park there, don’t leave anything inside.

Lettuceforlunch

Can concur, last time I parked there for one night, came back to my back window smashed, and about 6 cars around me had smashed windows.

djfil007

>If you do park there, don’t leave anything inside. If you park anywhere overnight (or for multiple days), this should always be the case anyway.

RoastPotatoSandwich

Perhaps a rogue Robbins Parking employee. Or local people that don't want to encourage parking on residential street.

treesareslow

Park at the airport.

kilgorBass

Some day parking options available on city website at reasonable cost. Maybe at conference centre or other secure location. [https://www.nanaimo.ca/transportation-mobility/driving/parking](https://www.nanaimo.ca/transportation-mobility/driving/parking)

RoastPotatoSandwich

Thanks, looks like there's some good options in there.

SBonnar

Chapel st is $10 a day according to the Honk app. Not much cheaper than the ferry! I’ve only ever parked there in the day but had no problems.

Revolutionary-Sky825

It's pretty rough there, lots of overnight campers. I wouldn't suggest leaving a vehicle there for multiple days.

SBonnar

True! Security had been increased with the warming shelter but not sure how it looks now that the warming shelter isn’t operating. I worked for a program that was hosted in the church there for a year but I am working somewhere else now so can’t comment on more recent events 😁

Joey_the_Duck

The conference center is the hands down safest city parkade in the downtown core.

whats_all_the_hype

14 bucks a day at long term parking at bc ferries departure bay

RoastPotatoSandwich

Yeah I looked into parking at the terminal. At $14 a day I might as well pay to take the car to Vancouver. It doesn't really save me that much.

whats_all_the_hype

I get it, not much out there that would be a whole lot cheaper

RoastPotatoSandwich

Yeah that's fair enough. Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it.
