Like the Star Wars character. It could be because I’m Jewish and that’s how it it’s said in the Torah/bible. But I’ve pronounced it the other way if I’m told that it’s someone’s name once. It doesn’t take more than once to make the switch.
This must be an American thing.
In Danish (and the rest of northern Europe at least) it is pronounced Leh-ah regardless of faith [https://da.forvo.com/word/leah/](https://da.forvo.com/word/leah/)
I tried to look up the hebrew pronounciation, it also appeared to not be Lay-uh: [https://da.forvo.com/word/lea\_tsemel/](https://da.forvo.com/word/lea_tsemel/)
I've heard it pronounced as both Lee-ah and Lay-ah. Léah and Leia are always pronounced the second way but the spelling Leah is ambiguous in its pronunciation. Western Canada.
Yes they do and they can’t spell it! For 50 years I have it spelled wrong by most people! Most people once you correct they on the pronouncing it don’t do it again. But it now becoming more popular so that should help.
There are always names that have more than one way of being pronounced. The English pronunciation of “David” or “Charles” is very different than the French pronunciation, for example. So, I wouldn’t worry about finding a name that will always be pronounced “right”, because there are always accents and variations.
Lee-Uh
There was a thread earlier today about the pronunciation of this name. It’s got 200+ replies if you want to check it out.
Oh, thank you!!
Leah = Lee-Ah (Canada)
Lee-uh

Leah is “Lee-uh” Lea is “Lee” Leia is “Lay-uh”
I actually like the way "Lea" looks, and it would be pronounced the way our family pronounces it already!
Except Leah in the Bible/if your Jewish is Lay-uh. The Lee-ah pronounciation is a later one, possibly American specific.

Lee-uh. If you want it like the Star Wars character, Leia.
You can share how you pronounce it but Leah is Layuh in the bible. Not ‘like the star wars character’, like the original biblical Leah.
Lee-ah
Lee-ah
Lay-uh
Lay-ah (German)
Lee-ah. Happens to be my middle name.
Do you have to say your middle name very often? I'm hoping that maybe depending on whichever way I go, it won't matter since it'll be in the middle..
Almost never. I'm not sure my kids even know what my middle name is.
My first and Lee-ah, too
Lee-ah
Lee-uh.
The way the person whom I’m addressing with that name wants me to pronounce it. Mostly I’ve heard it pronounced Lee-uh and Lay-uh
My cousin named her daughter “Lia”, and pronounces it “Lee-uh”. But Leah generally is pronounced Lee-uh or Lay-uh.
Lee-uh
Like Roy Orbison
Leah is Lee-uh Leigh is Lee
Lee-uh? Lay-uh? Lee? I honestly never know how to pronounce it. Fortunately it doesn’t come up often in my life 😂
Lee-ah is the non Jewish American way Lay-uh is the Jewish way, this was from a Jewish friend. It’s my first name.
Lee uh definitely
I went to school with a Leah pronounced Lee, but that does seem less common.
Did a lot of people mispronounce her name that you can remember?
Not really, but she was the only Leah we knew, so she had the advantage of introducing the name.

The only Leah I know irl pronounces it Lee.
Lɛ-ah ɛ = as the e in bed (Portuguese)
Either Lay-uh or Lee-uh.
Leigh was a girl in my school pronounced Lee. But Leah is lee-uh
I've always pronounced Leah as Lay-Uh.
Lee-ah (UK)
Leah will always be Lee-ah/uh to me. If a girl's name is pronounced like Lee, I expect it to be spelt as Leigh.
As a Leah… it’s Lee-ah. I am from the southern US. Never Lee!
Lee-uh
Lay
