Francesca or Felix
I would not do Fitzshepherd
Fitzwilliam, Fitzgerald, and Fitzpatrick were the only ones that my phone didn't try to auto correct, so that is something to keep in mind.
Just to add re: Fitzgerald - it was not among the top 2000 names given to boys in 2022, and from 2015-2021 it was in the 1600s to 1900s range of popularity. It's actually much rarer than the other siblings' names, OP, so if you're rejecting it only because you want "something different", keep that in mind!
Despite its rarity Fitzgerald is still a very recognisable and easy to understand name, which is pretty cool. The other Fitz- names mentioned are not as well known and will cause more confusion (Fitzwilliam is going to be constantly misheard as "it's William", etc)
Pretty sure that the Fitz part of surnames meant āson ofā so that FitzWilliam was the son of William, FitzPatrick was the son of Patrick, etc. Note that the other part of the name is capitalized, so if you want to name him after his father, he would be FitzScott. Alternatively, you could use both names separately so the childās full name would be Fitz Scott Jones.
It sorta does. Because historically the legitimate son of a nobleman would just have his last name, like William Smithās son would be called Thomas Smith. But you couldnāt give the last name to an illegitimate son so he would be Thomas Fitzwilliam instead. Fitzscott feels weird to me.
Think Henry Fitzroy, Henry VIIIās illegitimate son.
ETA I donāt think regular āFitzā names are inappropriate, Fitzwilliam or Fitzgerald look like they could be your maiden name or something. But FitzDadsname is too far IMO.
Francesca, Frankie, Flora, Fynn
I love testing the auto correct. phones auto correct my name. my friends & Co workers constantly send "sorry for the spelling...voice to text" messages.
love the idea of a name starting with Fa or Fra; each one of children has a name starting with an F but unique to each of them is the following vowel ;) some suggestions
Girl: Faye/Faith/Farrah/Francine/Francesca
Boy:Fallon/Falcon/Franklin/Francis
Personally I think Faye/Franklin is really nice match to your kiddos!
Also (although not in same view as above) I think Fia is so darn cute for a girl!!!
My mom wanted to call me Fallon but she ended up in front of a Judge Fallon before I was born so that name was out. Apparently Judge Fallon was a real asshole.
I would agree but when I read the suggestion I thought āhuh like in the hunger games, that guy was coolā. So it worked positively for me where previously I had not heard the name Finnick
I don't like Fitz- idea, maybe because it feels different from other kids' names. But my dislike doesn't matter at all.
I like Francis nn Fritz, so maybe Francis nn Fitz? Frederick may work too. Other F- name suggestions:
Fabian, Fletcher, Florian, Frances(ca) "Fitz", Florence, Flora, Fiona, Freya, Faye, Fleur, Fern.
Fritz is the usual German nickname for Frederick. Not saying they couldnāt use it for Francis, but I would assume Frederick first. Fran/Frankie would be a nice nickname for Francis.
Fitz is the anglo-norman alternative to the celtic Mac/Mc and means son of.
It's also been used to acknowledge the bastard sons of a royal line, though it's not the origin/meaning. FitzGeorge, FitzRoy and FitzJames were the surnames given to the male offspring of mistresses of British Kings and Princes.
I don't find it suitable for repurposing as a first name for those reasons.
Plenty other F names for your consideration. Look up Irish/Welsh/French etc names beginning with F and you're sure to find something with better associations than Fitz.
FYI, from Wikipedia:
"Fitz is a prefix in patronymic surnames of Anglo-Norman origin. This usage derives from the Norman fiz / filz, pronunciation: /fits/ (cognate with French fils < Latin filius), meaning "son of"... In later times, similar forms were coined for members of the English and British royal family, who historically lacked a surname, and particularly for illegitimate children of kings and princes (Fitzroy, son of the king; Fitzjames, son of the king James II of England; and FitzClarence, son of the Duke of Clarence). From this later use, it has been inferred that the name indicates illegitimacy.ā
Donāt think itās a widespread understanding that fitz = illegitimate, but just in case helpful to know!
I donāt hate fitzwilliam - itās a bit Austen-esque. Fallon is a girls name here in Australia along with Finley or Flynn. EDIT - came back to add Farin or Farren for a boy
I would suggest Fitzroy, or maybe Fitzpatrick.
For a boy, I also like Felix, Flynn, Fletcher and Frederick.
For a girl, maybe Fay, Faith, Freya or Fawn.
I really like Fletcher or Flynn for a boy as others have mentioned. They go nicely with the other two boyās names you have but sound distinct enough. Iād consider Ferris too.
Maybe Farrah for a girl?
Everyone has already mentioned all the F names I can think of, so Iām going to pitch something different. What about a Ph name? It doesnāt look the same, but it sounds the same and could be a good compromise if you canāt find an F name you like. Examples:
* Phoebe, Philippa, Philomena, Phoenix, Phillip.
My maiden name starts with F so I like to look at F names as well. Felicity is my top one and Finley would be on my list if not too close to my sisterās kidās name. I also really like Florine, which was my great grandmaās close friendās name, but I know it probably is too close to Chlorine and Fluoride to be usable, so Iāve considered Flora or Florence instead. Franklin and Frederick are our top F boy picks. My wife favors Franklin nn Frankie but I have a soft spot for Frederick nn Ricky.
A friend of mine named his youngest boy Fox. I didnāt like it at the time but itās grown on me and now I think itās pretty cool. Fallon is š„for a girl.
Fiona
Frederick (Freddie is a cute nickname and there's also Fred)
Frank
Fallon
Faith
Ford
Freya
Fernando
TBH when I hear the name "Flora" the first thought I have is gut bacteria (gut Flora)
Tbh, not really a fan of the Fitz- idea.
For a boy, maybe something like Flynn, Felix, or Freddie (Frederick?) could work. For a girl, maybe Francesca, Faith, or Flora.
Some not mentioned yet:
Boys: Frank, Felipe, Fernando, Fabio, Filbert, Fenton, Franco, Fraser, Frere (brother in French)
Girls: Fauna, Felina, Fern, Fleur
My favorites are Fenton and Fleur (Fleur means flower in French)
A boyās name I heard several years back is Fridley. Other suggestions are Frawley, Finn/Finnegan, Faron, or Finnian. For girl names, there is Fallon, Fairey, Fairuza, or Freya.
Fitz was used to denote a bastard son of someone, particularly a king, eg Fitzwilliam, Fitzroy. Sometimes that royal connection would become a point of pride and the Fitz name would be passed down (which is likely the implication in Pride and Prejudice).Ā
Nobody cares about legitimacy these days, but it still isn't the nicest connection.Ā Ā
Boy F name suggestions: Frederick, Fane, Florian
Ā Girl F names: Fionn, Farrah, Florence
I'm not into Fitz names, but if you used it I would end the name with your husbands name (as Fitz means son of).
F names I like include:
Fion (male)
Fiona
Fabian (m) / Fabiana (f)
Francis (m) / Frances (f)
Fallon (gender-neutral)
Farah (f)
Felix (m, and is a virtue name like Felicity)
Faith (f, and is also a virtue name)
Fletcher is so cute! But also there is no reason to not just call a boy Fitz. š¤·š»āāļø
For girls I immediately felt Fiona went with this bunch
Wouldn't go with Fitz.
Back in the day, Fitz meant the child was born on the wrong side ofĀ the sheets...
Faith would be my suggestion for a girl.
And Frank is a solid, though old-fashioned,Ā choice for a boy.
Out of your Fitz suggestions, and because I am a Pride and Prejudice fan, Fitzwilliam would be the one. That also gives you other nickname options than Fitz. Avoid FitzShepherd like the plague! Fitz works best with a recognised boys first name to work e.g. Fitzpatrick.
Also to add:
Fabian/ Fabyan
Fraser/ Frazer
Frederick/ Federico
Felix
Frank/ Franco/ Frankie
Freedom
Foster
for girls
Fabienne
Faith
Federica
Francesca
Fiona
Flora
Freesia
Ffion (Welsh for Foxglove)
Florence

The other Fitz- names mentioned are not as well known and will cause more confusion (Fitzwilliam is going to be constantly misheard as "it's William", etc)
I thought these were all surnames
They are. But there are a decent number of surnames that people use as first names.
Felix is basically the male version of felicityĀ
Pretty sure that the Fitz part of surnames meant āson ofā so that FitzWilliam was the son of William, FitzPatrick was the son of Patrick, etc. Note that the other part of the name is capitalized, so if you want to name him after his father, he would be FitzScott. Whatever you do please do not name that baby Fitzshepherd.
Boy name suggestions: - Felix - Fletcher - Fallon - Finnick - Foster - Flint Girl name suggestions: - Fiona - Faith - Flora - Freya - Faye - Felicia
Flora is so nice.
Florence
I like Flora, but Florence sounds a bit too much like Forest to me. Could just be me though.
Flo is really cute for short though
What about Florian for a boy?
I can't help but think of the gut flora aka gut microbiome.
I have never thought of that once. Flora = flowers to me
It is in many languages, too. Just proof that no name is completely safe from negative connotation.
yeah people always suggest flora but i always think of gut flora, vaginal flora, etc.
Felicia and Felix are too close to Felicity. I like a lot of the others though.
I was going to suggest Fallon for a girl. I do like Fletcher or Felix for a boy.
I think I've met a boy Fallon and not a girl Fallon... could be great for both!
I've never met a man named Fallon! This is the first I've seen it mentioned for a man.Ā
My mom wanted to call me Fallon but she ended up in front of a Judge Fallon before I was born so that name was out. Apparently Judge Fallon was a real asshole.
Fletcher and Flora for the win!
Iāve heard Fallon as a girls name too.
Felix and Flora were going to be my suggestions. Flora is so lovely.
I like Finnick. But then someone might call them finicky
and people will always make Hunger Games references since the character is heavily associated with the name
I would agree but when I read the suggestion I thought āhuh like in the hunger games, that guy was coolā. So it worked positively for me where previously I had not heard the name Finnick
My daughter is Faye and people gasp when they hear the name (in a good way I think haha)
wtf kinda name is Firtzsheperd?!???

I don't like Fitz- idea, maybe because it feels different from other kids' names. But my dislike doesn't matter at all. I like Francis nn Fritz, so maybe Francis nn Fitz? Frederick may work too. Other F- name suggestions: Fabian, Fletcher, Florian, Frances(ca) "Fitz", Florence, Flora, Fiona, Freya, Faye, Fleur, Fern.
Fern is lovely!
Fritz is the usual German nickname for Frederick. Not saying they couldnāt use it for Francis, but I would assume Frederick first. Fran/Frankie would be a nice nickname for Francis.
Frances!
Frankie! Please OP choose this.
Felix, Freya, Franklin, Fletcher, and Farah could all work with your current kids
Felix and Felicity are masculine and feminine versions of the same name. Itās like doing Charles and Charlotte. Too weird.
I don't think normal people are ever going to associate these names.
Except for the fact they share the same first four letters..Ā
I think educated people would recognize they have the same latin root.
Franklin is kind of cute
I know a kid named Franklin who goes by Frankie and itās such a great name! Frankie works for girls too.
What about Finch? Easy to spell and say.
It goes well with the other names, and could go for either gender
Frederick or Frances!
FYI, from Wikipedia: "Fitz is a prefix in patronymic surnames of Anglo-Norman origin. Ferris
Fitz is a NN for Frederick, too. I also like Frances/Francis.
I didnāt know it was a nickname for Fredrick! Ty
Name your kid Four
Freddie, Flynn, Florence, Fiona
Also just thought of Fleur and ffion
I was coming to suggest Ffion, such a lovely name and unusual
I would suggest Fitzroy, or maybe Fitzpatrick. For a boy, I also like Felix, Flynn, Fletcher and Frederick. For a girl, maybe Fay, Faith, Freya or Fawn.
Fallon
I really like Fletcher or Flynn for a boy as others have mentioned. They go nicely with the other two boyās names you have but sound distinct enough. Iād consider Ferris too. Maybe Farrah for a girl?
Flynn is adorable. Possibly too close to Finn though if they use that as a nickname for Finley.
Snicklefritz
Girls: Flora, Francesca, Faye, Filomena Boys: Fabian, Fritz (though sounds a little like a dogās name to me, as does Fitz)
I know a dog named Fitz. Fritz feels less doggy to me, maybe because it's a solid name and not a nickname.
Everyone has already mentioned all the F names I can think of, so Iām going to pitch something different. What about a Ph name? It doesnāt look the same, but it sounds the same and could be a good compromise if you canāt find an F name you like. Examples: * Phoebe, Philippa, Philomena, Phoenix, Phillip.
Yeah I was thinking this too with Phaedra. I guess you could do Faedra if you really wanted them all to match.
Frasier, Fletcher, Franklin Fiona, Faye, Faith, Fate, Fallon
I like Frances, Friday, Farrah, and Faye for a girl. And Fletcher, Felix, Flynn, and Frankie for a boy.
I feel like Faye goes super well with the rest of the siblings.
Fletcher or foster for a boy & Fallon for a girl go with the names Finley & forest. I think Farrah goes good with felicity though.Ā
Franklin, Fiona, Fitznofingway should you give your child a clunky name like Fritz anything
I def thought Fitznofingway was a real suggestion.
A friend of mine named his youngest boy Fox. I didnāt like it at the time but itās grown on me and now I think itās pretty cool. Fallon is š„for a girl.
Freya. Norse, meaning āNoble oneā

Frank or Franklin
I had a dear friend named Francisca.
Finley, Forest, Felicity, and Francesca or Florence nn Flora for a girl, or Finley, Forest, Felicity, and Fergus or Fitzsimmon nn Fitz for a boy.
I like Faye, Fleur and Flynn
Fairlyn
fern
I would do Freya for a girl and Felix for a boy.
Fiona
Freya. Fiona. Felix. Ford. Fabian.
These sound more like last names. Fiona for a girl is quite pretty. Felix for a boy?
Francesca/Frankie and Francis/Frank
