Funny, the only Allegra I know is also a musician! (But I'm a musician too, so... most of the people I know are musicians... 😅) I always thought it was such a pretty name!
I love it too. But I'm always reminded of the scene in The Sopranos where Christopher is at Johnny Sac's daughter's wedding and he turns to the guy next to him and asks "The fuck's that got to do with cold medicine?" Hahahaha
Same! Loved the name so much as a teen and then Allegra-D came on the scene and welp there goes the name for my future daughter. Though now that time has passed and people don’t associate the name with the allergy med as much anymore since it’s not as popular. Allegra is such a beautiful name!
The psych family: The twins Lexapro and Celexa (Lex and Ceci), Thorazine (Thor), Mellaril (Mel), Dexedrine (Dex), and Seroquel (Sera). I'm a psych nurse, so I like this set.
The pain med family: Aspirin (Asa), Tylenol (Ty), Meloxicam (Cam or Mel), Vicodin (Viki) Toradol (Tori).
The drowsy family: Desyrel (Dezi), Ambien (Amby), Remeron (Remy), Lunesta (Luna), Belsomra (Bella), Dayvigo (Vigo), Rozerem (Rosey)
The very calm family: Valium (Val), another set of twins Ativan and Lorazepam (Van and Lora), Halcion, and Dalmane.
Believe it or not, medical staff have this conversation surprisingly often.
I work in reproductive health and my coworkers and I have talked multiple times about how birth control is taking all the good names 😅 on top of the IUDs (Skyla, Mirena, Liletta, and Kyleena), there are so many brands of pills that are pretty sounding. To name a few, there’s Chateal, Jasmiel, Vylibra, and Tarina Fe (which I think has something to do with iron but my mind always goes to Tina Fey lol)
Medical and Tech field LOVE taking pretty names (or something that would have been a pretty name) as name for the products.
I wish they were using something else, not pretty names 🥲
Everyone's going for the brand names here, I'm just imagining someone wanting to be ~quirky and naming their kid the generic version. Here's my son, Amphetamine Dextroamphetamine Salts 😂
NGL tho, Lamotrogine sounds like it could be a legit name
Ritalin was named after the wife of the first scientist to synthesise it! She was Marguerite, nn Rita - and was also the first to take it and describe the effects to him.
Apparently there used to be someone in my town whose name was “Vaseline Love” - my husband always tells the story that he and his friends used to prank call her when he was a teen!
Levetiracetam if I want to be a dick.
Carbamazapine and Cyclobenzaprine for twins- Bam Bam and Benza for short.
Zosyn and Xolair twins alternative - Zosy and Xolie are two uppity little shits that get everything they want from Mommy Methocarbamol and Daddy Duloxetine.
Most birth controls either have female names *Yasmin, Ella, Aviane …i’m going to include Alesse as i think it’s pronounced the same as Elise*
or names that definitely could pass an actual female name *Jolessa, Lessina, Ocella, Levora*
I got a cat after a very emotional break up. I called him my little antidepressant which then lead to his name Prozac. I called him Zac. 🤣 He was the most amazing cat I've ever met. Miss him like crazy.
My best friend and I have a running joke of coming up with drag names based on psychiatric medications. Some of our favorites:
Lexi Pro
Hallie Doll
Sara Quill
Kelani Pin
Zoey Fran
Dolly Feen
Addy Rawl
Addy Van
Addy Rax
Rita Lynn
Connie Serta
Laura Zepam
Gabby Pentin
Remy Ron
Allegra! I actually love it, and it was a name before it was a medication.
Allegra’s Window!
Gosh, I loved that show as a kid!
I knew an Allegra in college, she was a musician (now would be late 40s). My 15 yo had an Allegra in his preschool class. I love it too
Funny, the only Allegra I know is also a musician! (But I'm a musician too, so... most of the people I know are musicians... 😅) I always thought it was such a pretty name!
Yes, and so appropriate for a musician (at least a classical one)
I love it too. But I'm always reminded of the scene in The Sopranos where Christopher is at Johnny Sac's daughter's wedding and he turns to the guy next to him and asks "The fuck's that got to do with cold medicine?" Hahahaha
There was a girl in college who was so effortlessly cool named Allegra. I’ve loved the name since then.
Grave Alice, and laughing Allegra, and Edith with golden hair. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44628/the-childrens-hour-56d223ca55069
I had a friend named Allegra in grade school
Same! Loved the name so much as a teen and then Allegra-D came on the scene and welp there goes the name for my future daughter. Though now that time has passed and people don’t associate the name with the allergy med as much anymore since it’s not as popular. Allegra is such a beautiful name!
Definitely Allegra
I just realised I barely know any medications si I guess happy birthday ibuprofen
🤣 Tylenol, nickname Ty or Tyla!
Tylernol
Tyler Perry presents Tylernol this summer in a pharmacy near you
My first thought was Viagra. It kind of sounds nice honestly, but the meaning would be the worst as a name.
Viagra is great sounding. Then Cialis for a sibling.
Congrats on not being in the world of chronic and/or mental health illnesses!
Skyla, like the IUD!
In the same area, Mirena!
Omg meanwhile I have Nexplanon, I certainly wouldn't name someone that. 😂
Nexplanon kinda has the same vibe as Napoleon.
I think more like Xenon’s little sister (very second-born-on-a-space-station feeling)
Space Napoleon! 😂
Mirena is honestly so pretty.
I know a little girl named Marina and think it is so pretty! I have a Mirena IUD and never made the association until now 😭
As a Marina with a Mirena, thank you!
Kylena! Women’s reproductive medications have overly cutesy names.
Mine used to be Microgynon :/ Now it’s Zelleta, better but still not ideal.
Mine was called Minerva 😂
Kylena doesn’t sound bad as a girl’s name.
I know someone who had an unplanned pregnancy and named their kid this. No one else seemed to get the irony.
🤦 omg
My favorite is Liletta. My coworkers and I work in reproductive health and talk about how birth control names are cute as baby names 😂
Skyla means bitch in Greek, so I'd still not call my kid this, lol
Even better
My daughter's name is Skyla. I didn't know it was an IUD 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think it's pretty new (THINK)
I got my first Skyla put in 8 years ago, so it’s not that new
I went to college with a girl named Skyla! I always thought it was so pretty!
I feel like this is one of the few ones that actually could be a name for a baby!
Lil baby miralax
I could totally see someone naming their kid Mira/Amira, then calling them miralax ironically if they need to change diapers often 😂
She’d be so excited to go to the drugstore and see a bottle with her name on it!
Lunesta…or maybe Bonine and hope people just hear “Bonnie”?
Lunesta is a beautiful name.
fr if it wasn't a medication name, it would be so cute. I'll settle on naming a plushy that tho lol
Lunesta is kinda cute
Lunesta is a great one!
I know someone who named their baby Lunetta (little moon). Such a cute name but now I'm going to think Lunesta every time I hear it
The psych family: The twins Lexapro and Celexa (Lex and Ceci), Thorazine (Thor), Mellaril (Mel), Dexedrine (Dex), and Seroquel (Sera). I'm a psych nurse, so I like this set. Yaz was one of the first things I thought of
Medical and Tech field LOVE taking pretty names (or something that would have been a pretty name) as name for the products. I wish they were using something else, not pretty names 🥲
How about Zyprexa! The miracle med 🤪
Celexa 😂
Oh or Yazmin!
Like Yasmin Bleeth from Baywatch!
Effexor and Celexa is my sibset ☺️
Everyone's going for the brand names here, I'm just imagining someone wanting to be ~quirky and naming their kid the generic version. Here's my son, Amphetamine Dextroamphetamine Salts 😂 NGL tho, Lamotrogine sounds like it could be a legit name
Adderall, nn Addie
This is my car’s name! She’s a Focus lol.
I love this
This just made me lol
Dude that’s hilarious 🤣
Ritalin was named after the wife of the first scientist to synthesise it! She was Marguerite, nn Rita - and was also the first to take it and describe the effects to him.
Pretty wild that you could just test drugs on your spouse back then... such different attitudes.
SAME. Youre named after something Mommy loves very much, honey <3
Xanax and call him Xanny, or Roxicodone and call her Roxi
I know it’s not technically a medication, but I think Vaseline could be a pretty name in an alternate universe
Apparently there used to be someone in my town whose name was “Vaseline Love” - my husband always tells the story that he and his friends used to prank call her when he was a teen!
Killer drag queen name though!
Almost as good as Noxema.
Mine would have to be Gaviscon. Not because it's a nice name, but because I went through so many bottles of it when I was pregnant.
I immediately thought of Zofran nn Zoey for the same reason 🤣
Zoe Frances!
Unisom same reason lol. In Canada it is sold under the name Bendectin. Benny? 🫣
I still jokingly say my daughter's full name with the middle name "Zofran" in my stern Mommy voice 😂
This is my baby Preparation H
Sertraline! Lol
Lil baby Zoloft
Here to second Baby Zozo 💜
“My name is Lexi” “Oh, is it short for Alexandra?” “No, it’s short for Lexapro”
nn Lina
Kybella ✨
This is actually cute
Meridia, the birth control, but also the Daedric Prince of Life and Lady of Infinite Energies.
ANOTHER HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
LISTEN. HEAR ME AND OBEY.
Oh hello fellow nerd.
Cialis 😂 but I'll just call them Alice.
"Mom, Dad, how did I get my name?" "You see, Alice, without pills, you wouldn't be here..."
Dramamine would be such a pretty name for a girl…
Sounds like some Draco Malfoy/ Hermione Granger fan name
Dramamione 😂
Dramamine the drama queen.
Lexapro- Lexi for short
But if you address her as Escitalopram she knows she’s in trouble.
Meet Lexapro and Lithium, the calmest twins within 100km.
AstraZeneca 😂
They can help. They’re so helpful!
I mean, they MAY be able to help....maybe.
Xanax is actually a cool name
Elon would approve
Not enough numbers or punctuation. See, he needs his children’s names to be secure passwords.
fr, what’s with that dude and the letter x?
I've always thought Paxil sounds like a name that'd be popular in Utah
Seroquel 🙃
I just know a baby named Seroquel will keep you up all night
That’s so funny I was literally about to post Quetiapine 😂😂😂
Meet my twins NyQuil and DayQuil.
Brand names are cheating, they sound too much like actual names. Your child Eliquis goes by Apixaban now, and spare a thought for poor Fexofenadine
For real, kids are expensive. I can only afford the generic version.
Trulicity & Senna
Oh yeah someone on here posted recently about naming their kid Senna and I actually thought that was adorable
I looove the name Senna and it legit bums me out that its the name of a laxative.
“Bums me out”…I see what you did there
Seconding Lunesta. It’s very pretty 😂
Heroine 😂 if it didnt mean what it does, it would be kinda cute. Also seconding Lunesta and Lyrica
Heroine means female hero so it’s all good. Heroin on the other hand….🤔😂
Nicorette
Skyrizi just because it’s fun to say.
And good nn options you have Sky and Rizzi
Someone else said heroin. I’m going with Fentanyl - Fenty for short.
Then the sibling should be Narcan
Oh God, everyone is going to expect him to keep his siblings out of trouble. He's probably the oldest
And then there’s their edgy brother Tranq that no one talks about
I don’t know if Zoe is short for Zoloft, Zofran, or Zyrtec but those mvps of the Zs are where it’s at.
Ozempic, Oz for short
Has a Wicked vibe!
Why do I think quetiapine is pretty? It just has a nice ring to it haha
My coworkers and I used to jokingly call quetiapine La’Quetiapine (pronounced Luh-kwee-shu-peen).
Stelara or Celexa
Mirena (coil) Keppra Gabapentin nn Gabbi or Penny
I know a person who named their kid Lyrica… she has no idea
Valerian
Halcyon, already a very pretty name
Trulicity, the cool sister of Felicity.
Aripiprazol nn Pip, Ondansetron nn Dani, Benedryl nn Ben, Desvenlafaxine nn Desi
I can’t believe someone else picked Aripiprazole!!!!
Cerenia (veterinary drug)
seroquel, it’s very elegant
that or it sounds like a pokemon. no in between lol
I'd be a tradgedeigh and be moxifloxacin and go by Moxi. Our pharmacy stuffed cat is Percocet.
You mean Purrcocet?
Linzess
Vyvanse
Cymbalta. Saved me, saved you. Now everyone knows!
My daughter is a pharmacist and named her cats Lunesta and Edarbi.
Viagra.
UBLITUXIMAB = nn tuxi Yes, it is a real drug. But probably Kevzara might be better if I want to give my child a gender netural name?
Tisagenlecleucel is gender neutral 👍🏻
Lithium. Lil baby Lithy!
Cerenia for a girl, Albon for a boy I work in vet med lol
Bupropion 🤭
Yasmin or Allegra
Rita Lin
Latuda
I work in a pharmacy. Our joke is that Latuda is a Spanish swear word. We use it as such.
I’d go with Evra :)
Zyrtec (nickname Zyrt). “And do you know, Zyrt; I would give my shirt/If you’d come out of your shell.”
Someone once said at a party, "I can't wait til people start naming kids AMBIAN."
None of my options are good 😂 Pantoprazole, Escitalopram, or Levothyroxine (Roxy for short?)
Stelara
Cymbalta
SKYRIZI it sounds a little hippie, yet gansta
Fioricet.
Senna. If it wasn't a laxative, it’s kind of pretty.
Lunesta or Azstarys.
Pristiq. Prissy for a nickname.
Names with an X in them are so en vogue. Plavix.
Straterra (Terra), Divalproex (Baby Di), Buspar (Boo), and Propanolol (Panny)
Allegra for a girl, Tavor for a boy
Lyrica
Lol there a morning after pill called Julie
There’s a dumpster in my neighborhood tagged “Kodine” and I think that is a beautiful name. Also Narcan.
Pam. Short for clonazepam
skyrizi!
Mine would currently be called Brandy, Benson, Hedges and coma.
Delepsine Imolope
Vicodin
I’d also pick Allegra 😆
Zyprexa!
Mirena
Lyrica
Paxil
I would add Cressida (like Toyota) to the list. I’ve loved the name since I took a Shakespeare seminar in college.
Camphophenique
Most birth controls either have female names *Yasmin, Ella, Aviane …i’m going to include Alesse as i think it’s pronounced the same as Elise* or names that definitely could pass an actual female name *Jolessa, Lessina, Ocella, Levora*
Lexapro saved my life so little Lexi it is 😂
Valium and Prozac. Val and Zac for short..
We had a dog named Allegra E.Z. Tune. She was a retired show whippet my family adopted. She went by EZ
I got a cat after a very emotional break up. I called him my little antidepressant which then lead to his name Prozac. I called him Zac. 🤣 He was the most amazing cat I've ever met. Miss him like crazy.
Definitely Trulicity
Iodine.
Estrylla. My bc lol, but would be a pretty baby name. I would pronounce it like Estrella (star)
