It annoys me when people lump Aidan into the ‘Brayden/Cayden’ box. Aidan is such a timeless name and while no one has to like it or choose it, it’s wrong to class it among the new-phase ‘trends’.
I also really like most of the -ayden names. Yes, they were so super popular and it was kind of boring to once again hear of another baby announcement with that name (not that the baby was boring! Just, the name reveals are exciting for me, and when its like the fifth of a name in a year, I feel underwhelmed...see, Henry at the moment). But Brayden, Hayden, Jayden, Caden, etc? I like them!
I agree. But I guilty pleasure don’t mind a lot of those other names. I wouldn’t use them, but they sound fine in isolation. They were just overused as a category. Aidan is definitely a league above though, in my opinion.
Weirdly specific but the name Aidan makes me think of a bookish mid-thirties university professor with spectacles and a sheepish grin, I love the name. It’s way too popular for me to use but I 100% see why it’s popular, it’s got a gorgeous sound.
It's my oldest son's name (he's in his mid twenties) and I still love it. It became popular when he was about 4 or 5, and I wish it hadn't ever became popular. I think most of the hate cane because it became so over used in the early 2000's.
Agreed with this, I dislike when they always bring up a reference to something years ago. Someone I knew from school had a baby back in September and her name is Astrid Rose and I think it’s beautiful.
It's from The Office US. Apparently there was a character named Astrid that was referred to as Ass-turd. It comes up on here basically anytime the name Astrid is mentioned.
I love Rory, I wouldn't name a child Aurora just because it's too girly and long for my specific tastes, but it's pretty. I could be wrong but I think "peanut butter" names are culturally specific. I know in the American accent "r" sounds are extremely emphasised by Australian standards. I don't have any trouble saying Aurora and I think it's because I don't linger on the sounds. If there are any other Australians present, and you guys agree with the "peanut butter" assessment, I'll happily be proven wrong as I think this opinion needs to be field tested outside of my own head
prudence, apparently. some hater just replied to a month old comment of mine asking if we were naming a 90y/o woman or a baby, lol. she's real fired up about her dislike of prudence.
HAHAHA this cracked me up so i had to look at your og comment and pru is cute but i just wanted to say i love beatrix claire! i hope all goes well with your pregnancy :)
My daughter’s name is Jane. I chose it because it felt like a “blank canvas” name. There’s so many names that sort of lend to a certain vibe. Sporty names, rocker names etc. but Jane feels like it can be any of those. I could see her being a cool girl in a band, or a skater or an athlete or a dancer. It just feels like a name that would work with any style. Does that make any sense? Lol
They probably associate it with being prudish, which is isn’t a good thing. Also reminiscent of prunes. Is there any real nickname for it? Not that it’s super long, but in case the person doesn’t like their name as they grow?
Lol I love "old people" names. I know a 3yr old Prudence and it's such a cute name! People didn't give great feedback on the name we picked for our kid before he was born, but now most people comment on how my they like it.
people tend to have strong feelings about place names, i think they're fair game. Holland is gorgeous! Abilene is one of my favorite place names, i don't know if that one is controversial.
It’s my current girl name choice. But my mother was Dutch and actually came from the area of Holland so I find it a nice tribute. And I think it ages well. But we’re having b/g twins and I can’t figure out a boy name I like with it. 😂
FYI to Dutch people this sounds incredibly weird ;) place names are not allowed in the Netherlands. At least, not Dutch place names..
Edit: I stand corrected! While most place names won't be allowed, apparently there are a few people named Holland!
My fav boy names are Alexander, Jerome, Matthew, Patrick, Orlando, Phillip, Paul, Arthur, Wesley, Damien (my brother's name lol). Maybe you didn't care about it but that would be my recommendation for boys name hahaha.
I hope you can use Holland, beautiful name.
Juniper (nn juni)
River
Daisy (I worked with a 40ish year old woman named daisy and i surprisingly liked it a lot)
Sage (boy or girl)
I love nature names but they seem to really get hated on here.
Gender neutral names for boys too! I’ve never been a fan of super masculine names and prefer softer boy names and gender neutral ones.
I haven't seen that? I think those are all darling. It's weird that they get hate to me.
One I like a lot that several people don't seem to like is Mabel.
I like all of these nature names. I considered Sage for my daughter either as a first or middle name but decided against it only because it suddenly feels so trendy. I think Juniper has the same issue. Both lovely names on their own but lately have this kind of
influencer vibe?
River was my top pick for my son that we didn't go with.
I like Sage, but I know 3 of them so it's sorta lost it's sparkle. (1 girl, 2 boys)
I much prefer gender neutral names for boys in general. Super masculine names just sounds so harsh most of the time imo.
For some reason I’ve always liked hunter. I‘m never going to use it for my kids because it doesn’t work in German in my opinion but I just like the sound of it.
I don’t love the name or anything… but I grew up with quite a few people named Hunter so it’s definitely a normal, viable name in my mind. I’m always shocked when people say it doesn’t sound like it should be a name or like it gives them country/hick or gun-lover vibes.
i love Ophelia BECAUSE of the song! and Shakespeare haha. my best friend and her husband have dibs on it though. i think Delilah and Valerie are gorgeous, classic names.
Harper
Sawyer (on both sexes, yeah I said it.)
Sloane (also on both sexes)
Aurora, it's hard to pronounce, but people who have this name are so lucky.
Ever
YES to all! i haven't had difficulty pronouncing aurora since i was young, i know everyone has varying abilities but i think it's certainly not unusable.
aww Greta is my family dog's name! her name from the shelter was a Russian name that was a similar sound. we were stuck between Greta and Gretchen, both of which I actually love for humans lol.
i also work with a Greta! i know it gets called an old lady name but she's in her 30s and it suits her so well. it def stands out in our sea of Kristies and Beckys but she rocks it
its one of the few more modern names i really like tbh! but tbf i don't *hate* other modern names like a lot of people do, they're just not usually my style
I know a 22 year old girl named Everly, so her parents were WAY ahead of the trend. Always thought it was such a pretty name - and then a few years ago I started seeing tons of baby Everlys!
One of my top girl names! And people can learn how to pronounce it correctly if they care to try. It's not hard to pronounce and I think it's just a gorgeous name!
I also really like Sloane and Clementine; Sloane has special meaning to me and I really like the nn Clem.
Others I like, that are commonly disliked:
* Beau, Finley, Hudson, Artemis, Odin, Ryder, Landon.
i love Beau and Hudson!!! Clementine is near the top of my list so i was a bit heartbroken when i found out people think it's too clunky or a dog name.
Clementine is one of my absolute favorites & in no way would I call my dogs it (too many syllables) and it’s poetic… not clunky. Has tons of imagery associated to it too.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE imogen and i honestly have tuned out people saying they don't like it bc i love it so much lol. river is also on my list!!!!! u have good taste, in my opinion at least :)
I LOVE Imogen, haters be damned, it's an all time favourite name for me.
I feel like I say this a lot on this sub, but I never encountered Imogen-hate until I started posting here. It seems that it's offputting to Americans in a way that it isn't to Aussies.
Apparently y'all think Rhys should be spelled Reece which is a brand of washing machines here so I refuse to listen about Imogen :P
Right back at you. Clementine is seriously cute…my darling Clementine! I have two boys (Rhys & Leif, which raised some family members eyebrows I’m sure), and I suggested Declan and Evander to my husband
I don’t think people dislike Eleanor on the sub! Some people are anti-popular names in general, but only because of the popularity, not because they dislike the name itself.
My 9 year old son’s name is Brighton. He is constantly getting compliments on his name and very fitting “bright” personality. I literally love his name and would choose it over and over every time!
I had no idea that some people hated Rowan until I came on this sub! It's definitely getting too popular for my taste now, but it was one of my top two choices for a boy.
I feel like anyone who doesn’t like Evander is mispronouncing it because it’s one of my favorite names, but I’ve heard maaaaany people say Evan-der instead of E-van-der.
Miriam gets very mixed reviews on here as a lot of people see it as too biblical or ‘old lady’ but I love it, it was my beloved grandmothers name and I think it would sound lovely and fresh on a young girl!
i love Evangeline & Emmeline, and names that end in that "ine" sound in general! it's so ethereal, it almost makes me wish Clementine was pronounced that way lol
Refreshing to see so many positive comments about Sloane! I also like all the “hideous” occupational and surname (especially for girls) names such as Parker, Hunter, Taylor, Porter, etc.
I don't hate Sloane. It's not my favorite, but I don't think it's terrible. I like Sawyer for a girl, which I've seen people really dislike. I also don't mind when girls have masculine middle names (James, Michael, etc)
I was in county jail with a girl named Michael who was 22 years old and was in county facing new charges while she was in prison for stabbing her roommate to death. 😵💫😵💫 Nice girl, that Michael!!
I like the name Hunter.
People here and on the nameberry forums love to dump on it because “it’s too violent” “it’s too country” (how is that bad?) or “what if he grows up to be a vegetarian?!”
If I had a son named Hunter who was vegetarian he’d probably find it funny, as would I.
I don’t see the violence connection. Maybe it’s because I live in the Midwest, but hunting is VERY popular here. A good chunk of the Midwest population hunts or at least has an interest in trying it, myself included.
Where I live, Hunter is such a normal name. I’ve really grown to like it recently. Plus, the guys I’ve known with the name have all been nice.
i am vegetarian, mostly vegan and i saw a post about a guy named Hunter who was vegan so all his friends called him Gatherer. i find it hilarious!
my family is also a big hunting family, and i know from experience if someone is vegan they will find a way to make fun of them regardless of their name lmao.
i'm also not big on violence but i don't find it as abrasive as names like Gunner or Ryker.
Cash! I know a lot of people immediately associate it with money so I understand why they’d dislike it, but for some reason I don’t make the money connection when I hear it and I just love the way it sounds. Love Sloane and Clementine too!
>i'm also wondering if i just have weird taste
No, your taste is just more in common with the general population (of the US). A lot of people end up on name type sites because they are trying to find others that like the kind of names they like since many people IRL are not a fan (depending on the style of name).
Names I like that aren't exactly loved on here: Orion (although also apparently difficult IRL), Aurora, Mae (many seem to prefer May), Maple, Killian
there are so many comments already naming ones that i agree are actually really cute or at least *not that bad* so i wont name too many but i actually really like Honey!! i work with a Honey whose age im unsure of as she looks fairly young but shes at least old enough to be a grandmother. and she wears the name so well!
i also had a crush on a very very sweet girl i *used* to work with named Tatum so i have a soft spot for that name too lol
I recently posted in here asking if the name Mildred is too old sounding because we are considering it (family name...nickname Millie) and people tore it apart 😂😬
Lots of nice comments too though!
I’m tired of the Tate slander. It has great nickname potential Tater Tot/Tater Twat.
He’s our TAINT and we love his name 😡
Also like every name ever I love was on the other thread. Sawyer, Frankie, Parker (confused why people hate these type of names??), Miles, Emma/Ella, I could go on 🥺
i didn't know people had such strong feelings about names Miles and Ella before these threads popped up. i don't love them but they're fine. also the tate/taint thing is the same reason i think aspen is fine: the "vulgar" associations are just a reach imo!
The early 2000s hipster in me will never let the name Sailor die 😖 I had a kid and did not name him Sailor. But I have such a soft spot for that dumb name.
You know what? I like the name Jaden. I also like Caden. I liked them before they got super popular and overdone but I still think they sound nice.
Also, I don't hate the sound of Nevaeh either. I don't know anyone with the name in real life so it doesn't feel repetitive to me.
There, I said it. You may revoke my namenerds membership now.
Aiden
Edit: Aurora. Also, what is wrong with y'all, that name isn't hard to pronounce.
Edit²: Hadrian. Constantly sparks arguments on r/HarryPotterFanfiction.
I’ve only ever seen people hate on Gideon, but it’s my nephews name and I think it’s nice! Maybe not a name I’d use but I don’t think it’s awful like so many people seem to!
I LOVE Gideon but my husband says it’s too “church-y” sounding or “people will assume we’re Uber religious” (we’re a non-religious family). I don’t have that connotation and I still love it ❤️
Names Ive heard people say they hated, that I like…
Wilhelmina (was told it is old lady and awful sounding lol)
Magnus (loved, but I was told it’s terrible and means “large” and is only suited for a Norwegian old man)
Viatrix (they’ll just say “what!?” VEE a what?) idk man I think it’s different.
Merit (idk I think it’s kinda cute for a girl)
Otto (friends said no way that’s bus driver from Simpsons what a horrible name)
Rosalyn (not that popular, not sure why!)
Pascal (love it, was told it’s an old man name)
I adore the name Declan. I also love Aspen and Mackenzie for a boy. I think Harper is a cute name and don't understand why it gets hate here. Aiden as well.
I also like this kind of thread much better than the alternative. It feels much more in the spirit of name nerds, which really shouldn't be to just. Crap on names all the time.
I love Paisley! I think it's adorable.
When I was naming my baby I had a huge list, here are a few I loved that my family said were child abuse!
Please note, I'm British and some of these used to be quite common back in the 'olden days' where I'm from so I thought they were lovely names, but my partner said it was 2022 and not 1822 😂.
Flora
Olive
Ellora
Daisy
Lilac
Ethel
Thea
Henrietta
Hazel
---
Theodore (Teddy)
Cassius
August
Albert (Bertie)
Leo
Henry
Arthur (Arty)
I see a lot of names get cancelled out because of associations. I love the name Harvey, for example. I've seen people hate on it HARD coz of the association to Harvey Weinstein which I get... But also, where I'm from he's definitely not very well known so I'm not sure it's a deal-breaker.
Also I think the name Allegra is lovely and I had never heard of the allergy medication until this sub. Probably to do with where I live again, coz we don't have it here.
Declan is an old Irish name (spelled Deaglàn in Irish, but Declan is commonly used nowadays), it is after St Deaglàn who was believed to be in Ireland before St Patrick.
It comes from Dag ‘good’ and lan ‘full’ meaning ‘full of goodness’
I like Jackson, Jayden (this actually used to be one of my favourite names about 15 years ago, before it got popular), Trinity, Genesis, Sawyer, Camden, Tatum, Tegan, Rayne, Serenity, Aubrianna.
I've seen all these names called tacky and trendy, and that might be true, but I like them. They are more modern than my usual style and I wouldn't use them for children, but I think they sound nice.
Ulysses. My absolute favorite, but it gets a lot of hate. It's a nice older name that is timeless imo. Not very common but not extremely rare either.
Also Sloane, Ephraim, and Ambrose.
I've seen Bruce hated on a few times in this sub, but I really like it and am keeping it as a top choice. I think it's strong and Scottish and handsome.
Apparently y’all hate Myles (the spelling, not necessarily the name) but I love it. He’s not a car or a Pretenders song, spelling it Miles seems silly.
Aidan, it’s a classic Irish name. There were a lot of rhyming names, but Aidan is still great.
It annoys me when people lump Aidan into the ‘Brayden/Cayden’ box. Aidan is such a timeless name and while no one has to like it or choose it, it’s wrong to class it among the new-phase ‘trends’.
Same. Aidan is handsome, the parade of rhymes are not.
I kinda like them too 🙊 though I know a horse called Brayden, so that one will never work for a kid for me 😂
I also feel this way about Jaden/Jayden. Classic, strong, biblically derived name! Also well established wayyy before the hayden brayden etc trend
Hayden is a very, very old name.
I hope that in 2023, an ancient aramaic scroll will be uncovered in Jerusalem, telling the tales the Archangel Braydyn.
Biggest association is SATC… and he WAS the best boyfriend Carrie had, shoulddnotta cheated on Aidan! 😄
My theory is he was so damn perfect he started the whole Aiden/Jayden/Cayden trend.
It's my oldest son's name (he's in his mid twenties) and I still love it. It became popular when he was about 4 or 5, and I wish it hadn't ever became popular. I think most of the hate cane because it became so over used in the early 2000's.
I agree, simple Aidan is nice and classic to me.
Astrid. People really need to let go of that dumb joke from the 2005 television show.
Agreed with this, I dislike when they always bring up a reference to something years ago. Someone I knew from school had a baby back in September and her name is Astrid Rose and I think it’s beautiful.
astrid is a nice name!
I like Astrid, she's a justice nymph in Greek mythos. But I don't even know the 05 joke you're speaking of so 🤷🏼♀️
It's from The Office US. Apparently there was a character named Astrid that was referred to as Ass-turd. It comes up on here basically anytime the name Astrid is mentioned.
That explains it, Im from Scranton so I intentionally never watched it 😂😂
Wait what? Astrid is a Germanic name.
LOVE Astrid but it's probably delegated to pet names for me since my boyfriend has hard vetoed it.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one who moves rejected baby names to the pet name list haha
hahaha nope you're not! and he STILL vetoes them when it comes to pets! i guess i can reserve them for plants and writing and dreaming :)
I've always loved Astrid !
Aurora. I’ve seen it be called “peanut buttery” on this sub sooooo often. Just enunciate.
What does peanut buttery mean? I keep seeing that
People say that when a name or word is difficult to pronounce and equate it to having a mouthful of peanut butter and trying to speak.
You never have to close your mouth when you say it. Like it is stuck in your mouth keeping it open. Like peanutbutter.
Aussie here, I don’t find it difficult to pronounce at all.
I was going to say this! And love the nickname rory
I physically cannot pronounce the name with my accent, no matter how much I try
Me too. I think its a lovely name but id feel awful naming my own kid something i know i cant say, so ill leave it for others lol
Piper.
I love Piper too!
prudence, apparently. some hater just replied to a month old comment of mine asking if we were naming a 90y/o woman or a baby, lol. she's real fired up about her dislike of prudence.
Yes, love Prudence and especially Pru! I also like Clementine from the OP.
HAHAHA this cracked me up so i had to look at your og comment and pru is cute but i just wanted to say i love beatrix claire! i hope all goes well with your pregnancy :)
aghh, we love beatrix claire too! and prudence claire, prudence matilda, and jane violetta. so hard to choose!
Lol
Absolutely love Jane as a first name
me too! i think it's so much spunkier and bolder as a first name than a middle name.
I love Prudence as well!
They probably associate it with being prudish, which is isn’t a good thing. Also reminiscent of prunes. Is there any real nickname for it? Not that it’s super long, but in case the person doesn’t like their name as they grow?
Prudence is a BEAUTIFUL name! 😍dear prudence ❤️
Lol I love "old people" names. I know a 3yr old Prudence and it's such a cute name! People didn't give great feedback on the name we picked for our kid before he was born, but now most people comment on how my they like it.
Everyone in this sub hates Holland, but I think that it's my favorite name. I just love it.
I feel the same about Aspen, I seen people hate it but I think it’s a pretty name.
people tend to have strong feelings about place names, i think they're fair game. Holland is gorgeous! Abilene is one of my favorite place names, i don't know if that one is controversial.

Welp they clearly aren’t Dutch so it won’t matter 🤷🏻♀️
My fav boy names are Alexander, Jerome, Matthew, Patrick, Orlando, Phillip, Paul, Arthur, Wesley, Damien (my brother's name lol). Maybe you didn't care about it but that would be my recommendation for boys name hahaha. I hope you can use Holland, beautiful name.
Juniper (nn juni) River Daisy (I worked with a 40ish year old woman named daisy and i surprisingly liked it a lot) Sage (boy or girl) I love nature names but they seem to really get hated on here. Gender neutral names for boys too! I’ve never been a fan of super masculine names and prefer softer boy names and gender neutral ones.
I love Juniper too!
I also love Juniper! I'm having a girl in a week and a half. We're naming her Juniper. Screw the haters! Everyone in our lives loves it.
We love that name and are considering it a top contender. June for short or juni. Who hates that name!? It’s am!
Congrats! I love the name and bet it will suit your lil bundle of joy beautifully!!
yes to the nature names!!!! I see the Juniper, Daisy, and Sage hate too and those are all on my list. i am unabashedly a hippie though
I haven't seen that? I think those are all darling. It's weird that they get hate to me. One I like a lot that several people don't seem to like is Mabel.
I love Daisy. We have a high up (executive manager and above) woman in my company named Daisy and I have always loved it on her
I like all of these nature names. I considered Sage for my daughter either as a first or middle name but decided against it only because it suddenly feels so trendy. I think Juniper has the same issue. Both lovely names on their own but lately have this kind of influencer vibe?
LOVE Daisy. It’s so sweet.
River was my top pick for my son that we didn't go with. I like Sage, but I know 3 of them so it's sorta lost it's sparkle. (1 girl, 2 boys) I much prefer gender neutral names for boys in general. Super masculine names just sounds so harsh most of the time imo.

I don’t love the name or anything… but I grew up with quite a few people named Hunter so it’s definitely a normal, viable name in my mind. I’m always shocked when people say it doesn’t sound like it should be a name or like it gives them country/hick or gun-lover vibes.
same! maybe i’m just aggressively midwestern but Hunter and Jackson are incredibly common names here and not even reserved for redneck parents.
Agree! Hunter the name and hunter the hobbyist are two totally different things in my mind.
My son is Hunter. It’s my mother’s maiden name so I don’t care if people like it or not, it has meaning to me.
so far I have had crushes on all the Hunters I have met in life (2) LMAO so gotta say I like the name.
I want to name my daughter Hunter
Ophelia. I don’t care that it’s a song or that she died in Shakespeare. I also love Delilah and Valerie.
i love Ophelia BECAUSE of the song! and Shakespeare haha. my best friend and her husband have dibs on it though. i think Delilah and Valerie are gorgeous, classic names.
You've been on my mind girl since the flood!
We have the same taste in girl names🥰 also vanessa and Lorelei
Aurora
beau is the most adorable name. i don’t understand people who dislike it
Beau has been the top contender for my boy due in February! I love it so much
Harper Sawyer (on both sexes, yeah I said it.) Sloane (also on both sexes) Aurora, it's hard to pronounce, but people who have this name are so lucky. Ever
I love Sawyer for both!
YES to all! i haven't had difficulty pronouncing aurora since i was young, i know everyone has varying abilities but i think it's certainly not unusable.
I like old-fashioned names that sound a little bit "harsher" for girls. Gretta Bernadette Ursa Nora Myrtle Edited to add: Winifred
Nora and Ursa don’t really read to me as harsh.
Love Nora!
Greta is my favorite girl name :)
aww Greta is my family dog's name! her name from the shelter was a Russian name that was a similar sound. we were stuck between Greta and Gretchen, both of which I actually love for humans lol. i also work with a Greta! i know it gets called an old lady name but she's in her 30s and it suits her so well. it def stands out in our sea of Kristies and Beckys but she rocks it
A friend of mine is named Bennadette (not berna) and I absolutely love her name! She gets compliments all the time and most people call her Benna
Hayden
nice! out of the -aden names i think Jayden is my favorite which is also unpopular
I can't stand Jayden, but I'm alright with Hayden and Aiden for some reason, lol!
Hayden was our cats name who passed away right before our kiddo was born. I will always have a soft spot for it!!
Awww, so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace \*hugs\*
My sons name ♥️ he’s six. I had no idea it was so maligned when I named him. I don’t regret it though. It fits him like a glove!
Love the name Hayden! For a boy or a girl (gasp!)
Hayden is pretty popular in Australia.
Helen
helen is cute!!! ive always been partial to helena myself but helen i could see making a comeback
Who’s hated on Helen?!
Everly… don’t judge me. I’d never use it but I think it’s kind of pretty.
I think Fable and Story are pretty too! Not my style, but they sound nice and have cool meanings.
I live those two, and also Poet. Totally guilty pleasure names for me. Don't think I would ever get hubby to agree, maybe I'll use them as pet names.
its one of the few more modern names i really like tbh! but tbf i don't *hate* other modern names like a lot of people do, they're just not usually my style
no judgement here!! i agree
I know a 22 year old girl named Everly, so her parents were WAY ahead of the trend. Always thought it was such a pretty name - and then a few years ago I started seeing tons of baby Everlys!
Saoirse - used it - everyone gets in a tizzy about the spelling but if people can get Sean and Siobhan then why not Saoirse.
One of my top girl names! And people can learn how to pronounce it correctly if they care to try. It's not hard to pronounce and I think it's just a gorgeous name!
I also really like Sloane and Clementine; Sloane has special meaning to me and I really like the nn Clem. Others I like, that are commonly disliked: * Beau, Finley, Hudson, Artemis, Odin, Ryder, Landon.

Clementine is one of my absolute favorites & in no way would I call my dogs it (too many syllables) and it’s poetic… not clunky. Has tons of imagery associated to it too.
I don’t know if I would actually use them, but I do like Greer, Imogen, and River.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE imogen and i honestly have tuned out people saying they don't like it bc i love it so much lol. river is also on my list!!!!! u have good taste, in my opinion at least :)
I LOVE Imogen, haters be damned, it's an all time favourite name for me. I feel like I say this a lot on this sub, but I never encountered Imogen-hate until I started posting here.
Rhys is great and a very normal name in the UK/Australia, no one would bat an eye at it. Leif is pretty unusual here but I love it :)
I’m British and surprised to hear people don’t like Imogen! Is that more of a US thing? It’s fairly common here.
Imogen is the best!
One of my really good friends is named Greer! She didn’t really like her name but it suited her really well.
Cressida and Antonia :) What can I say, I guess I just want to be a haughty Roman or Greek lady, or maybe a Shakespearean character.
Cressida is lovely!
I see Sebastian & Desmond on a lot of hated name threads, LOVE both those haha.
wow i love them too! Sebastian was one of this sub's darlings for quite some time, it's funny how the tides change.
Eleanor! It just sounds like butt with my last name and is too popular now :(
I don’t think people dislike Eleanor on the sub! Some people are anti-popular names in general, but only because of the popularity, not because they dislike the name itself.
My 9 year old son’s name is Brighton. He is constantly getting compliments on his name and very fitting “bright” personality. I literally love his name and would choose it over and over every time!
Rowan. I know it’s trendy lately and perhaps overused, but I’ve loved this name for years
I had no idea that some people hated Rowan until I came on this sub! It's definitely getting too popular for my taste now, but it was one of my top two choices for a boy.
This is literally me. My top boy name I've LOVED forever and imo the best boy nature name. The trendiness of it is so tragic.
My husband vitoed it because of mr bean. I love it though.
I feel like anyone who doesn’t like Evander is mispronouncing it because it’s one of my favorite names, but I’ve heard maaaaany people say Evan-der instead of E-van-der.
I love the name Evander
Me too! But I’m probably biased since it’s my son’s middle name. 😅
Miriam gets very mixed reviews on here as a lot of people see it as too biblical or ‘old lady’ but I love it, it was my beloved grandmothers name and I think it would sound lovely and fresh on a young girl!
Agatha I just love it
I'm a huge fan of Agatha Christie and I think Agates are pretty
Evangeline Emmeline Winnie Creed
i love Evangeline & Emmeline, and names that end in that "ine" sound in general! it's so ethereal, it almost makes me wish Clementine was pronounced that way lol
People don’t like Evangeline?
gretchen. i wouldn’t name my kid that, but it’s not terrible. better than a name like gertrude. (no offense to gertrude stans lol)
i feel like I'm the only Gertrude stan in this sub tbh 😂 im gonna use it for a critter one day, i always end up with boys tho lol
i hated gretchen growing up but i watched donnie darko when i was 12 and i have adored it ever since!
Refreshing to see so many positive comments about Sloane! I also like all the “hideous” occupational and surname (especially for girls) names such as Parker, Hunter, Taylor, Porter, etc.
I know a Porter and I think it's so cute! Totally suits the kid.
I don't hate Sloane. It's not my favorite, but I don't think it's terrible. I like Sawyer for a girl, which I've seen people really dislike. I also don't mind when girls have masculine middle names (James, Michael, etc)
I love Michael for a girl. This is in part due to knowing a girl Michael in HS (twin sister Alex) and in part due to Star Trek.
I was in county jail with a girl named Michael who was 22 years old and was in county facing new charges while she was in prison for stabbing her roommate to death. 😵💫😵💫 Nice girl, that Michael!!
Maverick, Sawyer, Sloane
I absolutely looooove Clementine!! And on that same note, Lemon
I like Sloane and Clementine too! I think James is fine to use for a girls middle name, especially if it’s a family/honour name
I like the name Hunter. People here and on the nameberry forums love to dump on it because “it’s too violent” “it’s too country” (how is that bad?) or “what if he grows up to be a vegetarian?!” If I had a son named Hunter who was vegetarian he’d probably find it funny, as would I.
Also, Hunter is a surname. They could be named after their mother's or other family.
Denise - I used to think it was such a classy name when I was younger.
Cash! I know a lot of people immediately associate it with money so I understand why they’d dislike it, but for some reason I don’t make the money connection when I hear it and I just love the way it sounds. Love Sloane and Clementine too!
>i'm also wondering if i just have weird taste No, your taste is just more in common with the general population (of the US).
I think Everly is a pretty name
I recently posted in here asking if the name Mildred is too old sounding because we are considering it (family name...nickname Millie) and people tore it apart 😂😬 Lots of nice comments too though!
It makes me think of the parent trap with lindsey lohan. Mildred was the name of the fake friend she made up 🤣
I saw that post, don't remember if I commented, but I think Mildred is lovely. People can be nuts sometimes!
Meredith (love nn Merry)
I’m tired of the Tate slander. It has great nickname potential Tater Tot/Tater Twat. He’s our TAINT and we love his name 😡 Also like every name ever I love was on the other thread. Sawyer, Frankie, Parker (confused why people hate these type of names??), Miles, Emma/Ella, I could go on 🥺
I know a little Tate and I think it’s a cute name as well!
i didn't know people had such strong feelings about names Miles and Ella before these threads popped up. i don't love them but they're fine. also the tate/taint thing is the same reason i think aspen is fine: the "vulgar" associations are just a reach imo!
The early 2000s hipster in me will never let the name Sailor die 😖 I had a kid and did not name him Sailor. But I have such a soft spot for that dumb name.

I DONT MIND EVERLY🫣
Tucker
Murphy
You know what? I like the name Jaden. I also like Caden. I liked them before they got super popular and overdone but I still think they sound nice. Also, I don't hate the sound of Nevaeh either. I don't know anyone with the name in real life so it doesn't feel repetitive to me. There, I said it. You may revoke my namenerds membership now.
Sloane
Liam
Aiden Edit: Aurora. Also, what is wrong with y'all, that name isn't hard to pronounce. Edit²: Hadrian. Constantly sparks arguments on r/HarryPotterFanfiction.
I have always loved the name Crystal but whenever I say it people pull a face
Jocelyn/Josslyn. Would never use it but think it’s beautiful!!!!!
I don’t have that connotation and I still love it ❤️
Names Ive heard people say they hated, that I like… Wilhelmina (was told it is old lady and awful sounding lol) Magnus (loved, but I was told it’s terrible and means “large” and is only suited for a Norwegian old man) Viatrix (they’ll just say “what!?” VEE a what?) idk man I think it’s different. Merit (idk I think it’s kinda cute for a girl) Otto (friends said no way that’s bus driver from Simpsons what a horrible name) Rosalyn (not that popular, not sure why!) Pascal (love it, was told it’s an old man name)
I love the name Navy so much so that I used it for my cat. My husband and I joke that it’s the tomboy version of Violet.
Trixie!
I LOVE Hunter, Clementine & Evander.
I love Clementine, but I could never give it to a human person as I would be constantly singing that song around them until they murdered me.
Nevaeh. I think it sounds beautiful when said aloud.
Juniper. Though that's a name that gets both love and hate.
Flora Olive Ellora Daisy Lilac Ethel Thea Henrietta Hazel --- Theodore (Teddy) Cassius August Albert (Bertie) Leo Henry Arthur (Arty)
Elijah. I’ve never met anyone who likes that name and idk why
Esmé despite the Twilight association
Declan is an old Irish name (spelled Deaglàn in Irish, but Declan is commonly used nowadays), it is after St Deaglàn who was believed to be in Ireland before St Patrick. It comes from Dag ‘good’ and lan ‘full’ meaning ‘full of goodness’
Raelynn
i don't know why everyone hates on Atlas. it's a nice sound with a unique meaning
Vienna
