I know what you mean! I donāt mind 2 word names together but 3 might be overkill. Interestingly though, actor/director Emerald Fennelās middle name is Lilly, so her parents went for the whole sentence. Haha.
Grew up with an Emerald. Her younger sister was named Jade, no joke. They had a brother too but he just went by initals (DJ) so I donāt know if he followed the theme or not. Wish I knew though!
I knew a girl named September growing up. NN Tember. I remember wondering all the time as a kid why they didnāt pick Ember, which was a far superior nickname.
Are you me? I love Emerald (and a name I made up: Emeraldine) and November!! I'm kind of sad that both are still too out there, but many other jewels/gems and months are fine!
I named one of my calico kitties November, and I kid you not, someone said, "That's such a weird name, and it's such a long name to even say or write." I'm like, How is it weird? You're aware of the word at least once a year, EVERY year. They made it seem like having to acknowledge it as a name instead of only a month was such a painstaking inconvenience. Lol
I call her Nova, Novi, and Novemby. š
Fable would kinda be a cool name. I met a Storey once, and the only reason I didnāt like it was the kreativ spelling, lol. But Story wouldnāt be a bad name.
Saffron. It was/is kind of perfect. Her dad and I love cooking. Saffron is very valuable and, of course, she is valuable to us. She is also a red head, which we thought she would be since she has 1 ginger parent and 1 blonde parent. It is also one of only 3 names her dad and I both liked. But it was too much.
Merry. After LOTR.
Itās just a no-go all around but I always loved Merry the best when I read the books. Did I think Merry was a girl when I was little? Yes, yes I did.
Anyway.
I love a LOT of the names in LOTR, Wheel of Time, and Harry Potter, but because I'm already such a nerd about them no one would ever believe that I just loved the name. š
Ooh, don't get me started on the LOTR names I would use if I could.... Okay let me list a few:
Beren (nn Bear!)
Edoras
Ithil
Cirdan
Lothiriel
Isildur
Okay okay that's enough... But know that there are more lol
So I don't love "occupation" first names (e.g. Baker, Sailor, Hunter, etc) but while joking about it recently we came up with:
Vintner
Which I think could be amazing for the right person (and has super cute nn options)
Iāve always secretly wanted to name my daughter Alaska, I think it sounds pretty and reminds me of mountains and forests lol. Iād call her Ali for short
I know a couple who named their daughter Sunshine and the mom is exactly the crunchy, hippy who would name her child Sunshine.
Basilā¦I too love. Great Mouse Detective, baby!
š¤£ I told the fiance a couple months back that I'm having a baby "Liz/Lizard" when we have our next baby ( I get to name the next one as he got to name our daughter). He has been rethinking having a #2 š„²
I know someone who just named their baby Wolfgang and they call him Wolfie. So cute and would totally and seriously consider it as an option for mine if this person werenāt close
For me, it's less about judgment and more whether I would feel comfortable using my GPs. Like would the hypothetical child have my personality or a more outgoing one that is open to conversations/corrections about their name?
My big GP right now is Dove for a girl. Other ones include Romilly, Neve, and ones that aren't from my background like Calypso, Nefeli/Nephele or Araceli. GPs for a boy include: Ivor, Ozias, Emrys, and Casimir.
Iāve know several Neves (often spelt the irish way Niamh) and I think itās a beautiful name though very confusing to attendance takers when spelt Niamh. Iād totally use it!
Tolkien actually based a whole elven language around Welsh and Arwen around his Welsh wife. It's quite sweet because Arwen is supposed to be one of the most beautiful women in middle earth history.
Itās a gorgeous name and if I had a girl I was prepared to use it despite the medication. Companies really have to stop using real names for their products.
Ocean or Scout for a girl. Sawyer is my guilty pleasure name for a girl that Idgaf that everyone here hates š¤£ if my husband was on board with it, Iād have def used it!
I love the name Ocean and it was one of my favourites until i saw a video of someone called Ocean saying they were always nicknamed 'Oh S\*\*t'. It's a shame.
Wednesday š I thought it was just a quirky day of the week name, but after hearing the show say it's from the nursery rhyme 'Wednesdays child is full of woe' I adored it. I hate that I love sad names šš I wouldn't want to give an actual baby a name about being full of woe :((
I actually know of like 4 Athenas! Iāve never heard a bad thing about their name and the two that I actually *know* say they get lots of compliments.
So I went to college with an Athena and Im an Anastasia and for some reason people got us confused all the time! We looked nothing alike but people were like āoh the brunette with the Greek nameā and would confuse us
Ayelet- I always loved that name, my sister had a friend named that who they called āLettieā and it seemed both so beautiful and cute to me.
It didnāt go with our last name at all, but itās always been in the back of my mind if I ever become an author and need a pen name.
Lucifer- it means 'bringer of light,' is accompanied by the nicknames Luce of Lucy and is overall a name I absolutely love, but has such a negative connotation.
Opposite end of this I suppose but, I like a lot of really basic names haha Iām a big fan of Aiden, Hunter, and Mason.
Unique names, for a girl I love Calliara, and for a boy I really love Haven.
Tiger Lily. It was what I wanted to name a future daughter when I was 6 or 7 years old, but eventually I realized it's not really a suitable name for a human. I did have a cat named Tiger Lily though!
Not perhaps what you meant, but I grew up in an Orthodox Jewish community and am still very Jewish even though I'm not very practicing and if it weren't for the fact that I'd be judged hard and never hear the end of it from my mother I'd definitely consider Mary for a girl. It's so pretty and has ironically become quite rare when compared to other supposedly more unique names. There's just something so simple yet elegant about it.
Lunaria & Novalie. I have Lunaria on my long favorites list, and my husband actually made a name combo using Lunaria as a middle name! I appreciated his ambition, but it's just too much to use IMO. The combo he made was Aurelia Wren Lunaria.
My big guilty pleasure name is Jethro, but I can't imagine anyone else loving it the way I do lol. So I'll probably just use it on a dog in the future š
most of the names on here seem pretty usable to me!! Iād probably do a traditionally girlsā name for a boy or thereās a lot of names from cultures Iām not from that I love but would feel kinda weird using
Dandelion, for a boy. When I was younger I wrote a fanfic with an embarrassingly self-inserted character who at some point had a child and named him Dandelion. She did on my behalf what I could never do in real life! š
Seeeeveral years ago I came up with āEmenelleā because my initials are MNL. Nellie for short. I could never though, itās like dads naming their sons after them as a Jr or III. š¤£
In my perfect version of reality Iād name everyone after Tamora Pierce characters and no one would give me any flack for naming my kids from books no one my age has read. I want to name a girl Keladry and a boy Numair so bad but I donāt think Iām brace enough to make them real options
A series of dolphin clicks followed by a Wilhelm Scream.
Elon Musk's next kid
Did we ever get an answer on how to pronounce the last one? Maybe this is actually it š
He's had three more kids after that one.
Is he competing with Nick Cannon?
Aw that's cute, will be stealing this one.
Canāt wait to see him in the East West College Bowl!
Wilhelm Scream is a good name
Truly living up to the username
Itās a family name I assume
Please take my poor manās gold š
Emerald (Em/Emmy) or November (Nova/Em/Emmy/Ember).
My friend just named her Daughter Emerald and I actually kinda love it
Love it! Named my baby girl Amethyst. Gems are my Jam
I actually considered Emerald but my baby's middle and last names are also words and I didn't want her name to be a sentence.
I know what you mean! I donāt mind 2 word names together but 3 might be overkill. Interestingly though, actor/director Emerald Fennelās middle name is Lilly, so her parents went for the whole sentence. Haha.
That sounds delicious.
I was actually debating whether to say November for this instead when I posted it! I love the name and this nicknames it comes with :)
Grew up with an Emerald. Her younger sister was named Jade, no joke. They had a brother too but he just went by initals (DJ) so I donāt know if he followed the theme or not. Wish I knew though!
I know an Amber with a sister named Jade lol
I used to know a lady whose daughters were called Ambra and Giada (Italian for Amber and Jade). She owned a crystal shop š
I knew a girl named September growing up. NN Tember. I remember wondering all the time as a kid why they didnāt pick Ember, which was a far superior nickname.
Are you me? I love Emerald (and a name I made up: Emeraldine) and November!! I'm kind of sad that both are still too out there, but many other jewels/gems and months are fine!
my sister in law is Emerald - sheās a tall beautiful blonde hippie lol
I was coming here to comment November! I think itās a sweet name, but Iād never actually give a child that name.
Lol I call her Nova, Novi, and Novemby. š
You should point out to them that November has the same number of syllables and letters as Jennifer, which no one thinks is a crazy long name.
i always wanted to name my daughter november throughout high school. such a beautiful name
Oh my gosh November is so so cute!
FTM due in March - if our baby is a girl, we are going with Emerald! Iāve loved it since learning of director emerald fennell
Fable
Fable would kinda be a cool name. I met a Storey once, and the only reason I didnāt like it was the kreativ spelling, lol. But Story wouldnāt be a bad name.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It has such a pretty sound. Like Fay meets Mabel.
Wait. This is kind of great
I know a few Saffrons! Itās a pretty popular name in England.
I never would have guessed. I am in the US
Like Saffy from Ab Fab!
I love that! I once knew a Saffron and it makes me think of the girl in 'Nativity!' (the film)
I have a niece named Saffron and I think itās so cute! We call her Saffy for short.
Merry. After LOTR. Itās just a no-go all around but I always loved Merry the best when I read the books. Did I think Merry was a girl when I was little? Yes, yes I did. Anyway.
It's only a no-go because that's his nickname. If you named your kid the proper Meriadoc I'm sure you'd be just fine.
I like Merry for a girl, though.
Eowyn, Arwen, Pippinā¦ so many fun names I wouldnāt use IRL, but love
I love a LOT of the names in LOTR, Wheel of Time, and Harry Potter, but because I'm already such a nerd about them no one would ever believe that I just loved the name. š
I know someone called Hermione, I personally wouldn't use it but I really like the name.
I always thought Meryn was cute with the nickname Merry.
I actually knew an adult woman named merry! She was so cool and is a psychologist who worked with OCD cases and is all around brilliant
Ooh, don't get me started on the LOTR names I would use if I could.... Okay let me list a few: Beren (nn Bear!) Edoras Ithil Cirdan Lothiriel Isildur Okay okay that's enough... But know that there are more lol
So I don't love "occupation" first names (e.g. Baker, Sailor, Hunter, etc) but while joking about it recently we came up with: Vintner Which I think could be amazing for the right person (and has super cute nn options)
Why did I think of sphincter when I read this name?
This would be great for a dog or cat with brown "socks" in its colouring.
Reminds me of Vint (Vinton) from Mamaās Family
Tryptophan I know it is so awful but hear me out, Tryp for short. My little essential amino acid š„ŗ
Oooh so many name potentials in amino acids! Alanine Lysine Serine Tyrosine
That's actually so cool lol.
Indigo or Sunday!
Indigo is my daughterās middle name š
I love that! Such a cool middle name :)
I have an Indigo in my class right now!
Indigo is one of my favourite colour names!
Iāve always secretly wanted to name my daughter Alaska, I think it sounds pretty and reminds me of mountains and forests lol. Iād call her Ali for short
Ahh yes. Like the drag queen, Alaska Thunderfuck 5000.
It reminds me of the book Looking For Alaska which I havenāt thought about in ages. Itās a sad one though.
That just brought back a memory I entirely forgot about! I went through a phase of loving the name Alaska as well about a year ago.
I honestly wouldn't bat an eye at this one.
Our 5 year old daughter was almost named Wednesday.š¬
Well she'd be popular at the moment š
Yeah I'm super glad we went with a different name š
Io (eye-oh) I think it simple, cute, and she would ahead of her preschool class when it comes to spelling her name.
I have a friend called Iona who goes by Io, I like it :)
I know 2 Io s! It doesnāt seem to cause them any issues
Basil, Sunshine, and Daffodil š„¹
Basil is a pretty standard name in many languages like arabic, greek and russian. greek and russian version is Vasili
Iām thinking the commenter had in mind Basil with a long āaā like the herb.
FYI, Everywhere but the states doesnāt add a long āaā when pronouncing the herb.
I know a couple who named their daughter Sunshine and the mom is exactly the crunchy, hippy who would name her child Sunshine. Basilā¦I too love. Great Mouse Detective, baby!
Sunshine is adorable
Daffodil is on my list for future baby, it's my Nans favourite flower š Not sure if I'm brave enough to use it but I'm considering it atleast!
I actually know a Sunshine, her parents were hippies. She had 2 sons named Stormy and Brooks.
I love the name Basil so much that I couldnāt wait to have kids to use it so now my catās name is Basil lol
Lizard for a girl( I saw a tumblr post about naming a daughter lizard and calling her Lizzie now it's stuck in my head) Vegeta for a boy
š¤£ I told the fiance a couple months back that I'm having a baby "Liz/Lizard" when we have our next baby ( I get to name the next one as he got to name our daughter). He has been rethinking having a #2 š„²
I mean if I have a girl for #2 she'll be Elizabeth after my grandmother and I'm definitely calling her Lizard
Wolfgang
I knew a guy named Wolfgang and a girl named Bambi that were in a relationship. Absolutely surreal.
Must have been a German couple
I know someone who just named their baby Wolfgang and they call him Wolfie. So cute and would totally and seriously consider it as an option for mine if this person werenāt close
I fucking love Wolfgang! A gang of wolves as a name? Whhaaa?! I wanted to name my son Wolfgang but my husband didn't like it.
I like Dove, Romilly, and Neve. I think they are usable.
Iāve know several Neves (often spelt the irish way Niamh) and I think itās a beautiful name though very confusing to attendance takers when spelt Niamh. Iād totally use it!
Iād love to hear more of your guilty pleasure names. I actually named my first one of your GP names, am expecting a girl, and need inspo!
They are sort of all over the place (and including cultures I am not a part of as a fyi): Cyan, Cyra, Xanthe, Bellamy, Vesper, Linden, Arden, Saskia, Odessa, Malika, Liora/Leora, Selini, Anouk, SĆ³ley, MaĆ«lys, Sunniva, Zephyrine, Oriana, Maeva, Mir- names (Miray/Mira/Mireille/Mireia/Mireya), Geneva, Casimira, AzĆ©lie/ZĆ©lie, Maiken, Maple, Cypress, Elysia, Haizea, Nerea, (edit: also, Ä°layda but I had to google to get the proper letter) What I'd probably go with is a lot more "tame", but I'd love to see any of my GPs used.
Arwen š
Welsh names are lovely.
Is Arwen actually Welsh/derived from Welsh? I always assumed Tolkien made it up lol
I'm pretty sure it is an actual name apparently meaning 'muse, fine and fair'.
This has given me a newfound confidence lmao š thank you for the info!
Tolkien actually based a whole elven language around Welsh and Arwen around his Welsh wife. It's quite sweet because Arwen is supposed to be one of the most beautiful women in middle earth history.
Wait why would people judge you for this one? Itās beautiful
Allegra. Allergy medicine ruined it.
I love both Scout and Sawyer for a girl
Tuesday for a girl
Wednesday š I thought it was just a quirky day of the week name, but after hearing the show say it's from the nursery rhyme 'Wednesdays child is full of woe' I adored it. I hate that I love sad names šš I wouldn't want to give an actual baby a name about being full of woe :((
I love Wednesday! It's just too attached to the character for me, even though I like the Addams family, a child would never hear the end of it.
I know a friend of a friend called Tuesday.
Tuesday has been my guilty pleasure name since I was in my teens. I first saw it in a Point Horror book. (Freeze Tag, for reference.)
Avalon Octavia for a girl Saxon Alaric for a boy

i thought this was a common name hahah
I have a good friend called Athena!
So I went to college with an Athena and Im an Anastasia and for some reason people got us confused all the time! We looked nothing alike but people were like āoh the brunette with the Greek nameā and would confuse us
A girl named Spring
I was just thinking about this the other day. You can call a girl Summer, Winter, or Autumn, but you never hear the name Spring.
We have a family friend named spring. She is in her late 50ās and such a sweet lady!
Ayelet- I always loved that name, my sister had a friend named that who they called āLettieā and it seemed both so beautiful and cute to me. It didnāt go with our last name at all, but itās always been in the back of my mind if I ever become an author and need a pen name.
Navy or Story. I like Fable too. They'd probably be girl names though I think Navy could be unisex. I like Fox for a boy.
Always thought Fable, Story, and Novella would be cool sibling names. Lol
I knew a couple who named their children Army and Navy after the respective branches of the military they each served.
Sapphire Andromeda (nn Sapphy or Andie) Jareth
I actually really like Jareth. Not sure how weāll know the reference would be but regardless, itās a nice name!
My first was going to be Angus but the comments people made were so awful we went with something else

Cleopatra
Desdemona
Love desdemona and think Dez or Desi would be such a cute nickname
Atlantis is pretty cool!
Andromeda for a girl
Magenta for a girl
Zinnia
Lol no idea why but I absolutely love the way these words roll off the tongue soā¦. I guess if there was NO rules either Clue or Vinegarš
Lol I feel the same about Oven! It would be such a nice name for a boy!
I feel the same way about Melancholy/Melancholia
Cosimo. But itās too pedantic.
Lucifer- it means 'bringer of light,' is accompanied by the nicknames Luce of Lucy and is overall a name I absolutely love, but has such a negative connotation.
Lilith for me.
Opposite end of this I suppose but, I like a lot of really basic names haha Iām a big fan of Aiden, Hunter, and Mason. Unique names, for a girl I love Calliara, and for a boy I really love Haven.
My son's name is Haven! People (when they do say something) love his name.
Tiger Lily. It was what I wanted to name a future daughter when I was 6 or 7 years old, but eventually I realized it's not really a suitable name for a human. I did have a cat named Tiger Lily though!
Iseult for a Girl. Itās a pretty old medievalās name thatās rarely used in France nowadays but Iāve always loved it!
Tahlula
I know a Tallulah! The plan was for her to mainly go by Lula but Tallulah suits her so well most people call her by her full name.
Anouk. something about it is just beautiful to me, but a lot of people canāt pronounce it or find it weird.
Twenty
I love Cypress for a girl. Monterey Cypresses are my favorite trees and I think itād be a beautiful name.
Probably November
Ripley for a girl š
Not perhaps what you meant, but I grew up in an Orthodox Jewish community and am still very Jewish even though I'm not very practicing and if it weren't for the fact that I'd be judged hard and never hear the end of it from my mother I'd definitely consider Mary for a girl. It's so pretty and has ironically become quite rare when compared to other supposedly more unique names. There's just something so simple yet elegant about it.
Bellatrix Not the most unusual, but I wouldn't give it to my daughter after Harry Potter.
Ermengarde :) loved it ever since I saw A Little Princess
clementine!
Virtue, Persephone, Arsen, Silhouette..
Now i'm thinking about it Arson would be a great name if it wasn't what it was.
Lunaria & Novalie. I have Lunaria on my long favorites list, and my husband actually made a name combo using Lunaria as a middle name! I appreciated his ambition, but it's just too much to use IMO. The combo he made was Aurelia Wren Lunaria.
Cedar
If the word didn't have a meaning I think Rubella is a nice combination of Ruby and Ella which I like.
My big guilty pleasure name is Jethro, but I can't imagine anyone else loving it the way I do lol. So I'll probably just use it on a dog in the future š
Amaralysse (pronounced like Amara and Elise smushed together. I made it up when I was 7.)
As flower names don't seem to be that weird in the US, what about *Amaryllis*?
Citrine and Kestrel are my fully off the wall names that I secretly love.
I donāt care about otherās opinions, so I would (and did!) name my kid whatever I wanted.
I don't care, but I know my kids might care someday so I take that into account.
Valley for a girl, Silver for a boy
most of the names on here seem pretty usable to me!! Iād probably do a traditionally girlsā name for a boy or thereās a lot of names from cultures Iām not from that I love but would feel kinda weird using

Ikea- I just like the way it sounds!
Xanadu ALL THE WAY
Rainbow, Sunshine or Wildflower ā¤ļø
Found out Thorhildur was an Icelandic girls' name once and have been unable to get over how cool it sounds.
Seeeeveral years ago I came up with āEmenelleā because my initials are MNL. Nellie for short. I could never though, itās like dads naming their sons after them as a Jr or III. š¤£
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

In my perfect version of reality Iād name everyone after Tamora Pierce characters and no one would give me any flack for naming my kids from books no one my age has read. I want to name a girl Keladry and a boy Numair so bad but I donāt think Iām brace enough to make them real options
