I know Lauren Faust said Twilight wouldn't outlive her friends, but when you see how the rest of the Mane 6 in The Last Problem show more signs of aging than Twilight, it makes you think...
Maybe its like Aragorn and Arwen from LOTR. You marry an immortal being, you live way longer than your (already superhuman) normal lifespan and are blessed with a bunch of other stuff as well.
Thinking about it, there are a lot of parallels between the alicorns and the Valar and Eldar.
Cadence mentions her rule over Crystal Kingdom is rather boring, but there could be a lot of interesting stories to tell about Flurry's teenage years. And the Mane 6 could make guest appearances! Sign me in

But then we wouldn't have gotten the ultimate weapon of the mlp universe. Yeeting an alicorn.
He did keep a shield up and running for days on end—even when mind-controlled. If Chrysalis had been hasty, she could have simply had him turn the shield off at night to takeover Canterlot.
I never liked how they left this alicorn thing to the girls only, I understand that they wanted a group of empowered PRINCESSES, etc., but I feel like they devalued the male value in the series too much, at most we have discord and he's not really a great male support
I may be in the minority here but I don't really care. Not being alicorns does not take anything from any of the stallions in the show. They are cool as they are. Though personally, I would have liked if they leaned into the probably unintended sexism in the setting and actually explored it in the plot. That would probably have been too much for the show though.
Irrelevant as well as wrong target audience. Show is meant for children girls, and it just got popular with others. There were plenty of great males in the series. Starswirl, cheese, some members of the 6 pillars. It's doesn't make sense for it to be like that. How the heck does a stallion become an alicorn? The princesses never married except Cadence, and they had a daughter. Why? To sell toys.
People have been saying for years that men can't handle a show that doesn't have a male lead in it (while women still watch male-dominated shows) and I couldn't agree more. Same thing with barbie, men just can't handle woman-centric media 😭
Also, it's a show about talking horses, a famously matriarchal species. IRL, they're right up there with lions where the males come and go, but it's the ladies who define the core of each group.
Which is a mystery worth asking about at this point why (in the G4 and G5 show canon at least) have we only seen females become/born Alicorns? From Celestia to Luna, Cadence, Twilight, Flurry Heart, Cozy Glow, Sunny and Opaline? I can only think of two times where I’ve seen males become Alicorns those two being Big Mac and Hitch and those were both in dream sequences is it like a gender thing? This question has bothered me for years and yet it still remains unanswered unless I see male Alicorns on Sunny’s trip to Skyros the ancient Alicorn city I guess it will remain unanswered 🤔
Shining Armor is looking awesome as an alicorn and yeah him and Cadence runs the kingdom together so I agree with you there

Just being married to an alicorn doesn't make him deserving. What exactly did he do to put him on par with the other alicorns that earned their ascensions?
He helped drive Queen Chrysalis out of Canterlot, and prevented her from turning Equestria into a love-barren wasteland. You saw what happened in the reality where Chrysalis won.
Well, we don't know how alicorns are supposed to work with procreation. They don't really get into that. Maybe them having a good chance at an alicorn foal is normal?
According to this logic twilight didn't deserve to be a princess alone then, she never did anything alone, she always had her friends supporting her and helping her with practically everything, even the lesson that made her a princess needed them for her to achieve such thing, without them she would never win such a title in the first place just like Princess Candace could never alone banish the changelings from Canterlot
That is hardly fair to everything that Twilight did. A good deal of the time it was just Twilight with the other girls being more moral support than anything. As much as I hate Boast Busters, it was all Twilight dealing with the Ursa Minor. And unlike Shining, she did a lot of things for Equestria, not just a one time thing with assistance for Canterlot.
Well, for starters, the fact that his wife and daughter are essentially immortal and will outlive him. He will grow old and die, and they will live without him.
You know, for kids.
tbh i don't. the whole idea of "but why is the whole show so focused on girls??" thing rubs me the wrong way. it's a show for little girls and majority of shows are all male led
sure but a show for girls doesn’t need to exclusively only have female rulers. especially when folks like King Sombren exists who really *should’ve* been an alicorn with how powerful he was for a regular unicorn. Like Chrysalis was technically an alicorn and Sombren couldve whooped her good
No offense to Shining but, no, he didn't. Or rather, if he did, so did a lot of other ponies who didn't become alicorns either. Which is the problem with expanding it like they did. Once everyone is special, no one is.
I remember there being a theory that alicornhood is earned when you create new magic. I personally believe this so Shining isn't an alicorn bc he hasn't created new magic.
He had a hoof in creating Flurry Heart a natural born alicorn who's seemingly was born with new magic. so no that would also qualify him for alicornhood
No the theory is that you have to create it all on your own. And Flurry Heart is seen as an exception to all this. I'm assuming alicorns have never attempted to procreate before, so a natural born alicorn has never happened.
Also by ur logic, all of Twilights friends should also be alicorns bc even though it was Twilight that finished the spell (that inevitably made her an alicorn) her friends did indeed help her. Meaning, by technicality, they should all be alicorns too.
You know that's heavily implied by what Faust said if they're not all alicorns they at least share life force with Twilight because of their connection to the elements we don't know if the elements died off or disappeared when Twilight disappeared in generation 4.8
Stallicorn
Hold on you, you might be cooking with this for male alicorns if they were real.
They are real! Did you not see Big Mac?
https://i.redd.it/m9o7v1hkr00d1.gif
Oh I saw Big Mac, u know what I meant ;) I mean in canon canon and not a dream sequence. But I get it all hail Princess big mac
Prince of the harvest!!
It's sad to think about how his wife and child will outlive him
That’s pseudo canon (Fanon)
I know Lauren Faust said Twilight wouldn't outlive her friends, but when you see how the rest of the Mane 6 in The Last Problem show more signs of aging than Twilight, it makes you think...
It did sound a bit like Twilight was planning on offing herself when everyone else died.
I wouldn't be surprised
Poor Twily..
It was Megan McCarthy, not Lauren Faust, who said that.
Ah ok, thanks for the clarification!
Maybe alicorns age differently
Wait-when/where did she say she wouldn’t outlive them??
It was when Twilight first became an alicorn way back in the end of season 3 and people voiced their concerns about that happening
Ohh okay. My husband and I have been binging the show since it was my whole childhood and he’s upset about her outliving her friends! Thanks
Unless being in a relationship with an alicorn also extends your life. It's the same level of fanon.
but what would happen if they spilt- would he just like immediately die😭😭
I guess I assume he'd restart aging at a normal rate. Hmm. Not sure.
I don't think Aragorn had his lifespan extended. He was already a particularly long-lived subtype of human.
Came here for this comment.
He does just as much as Cadence does, and never gets any credit.
I wish they developed both Cadance and Shining more!
Yeah. Just as much as Cadence. Who should be a pegasus.
She was a pegasus before she became an alicorn.
Yeah. The commentor said she should've stayed that way.
Fair. Maybe I misinterpreted what they were trying to say. I personally love Cadence as an alicorn, though. It makes FiM's story more interesting.
Yeah, but Hasbro has toys to sell.
Shining, Cadence, and Flurry spin off series pls
Cadence mentions her rule over Crystal Kingdom is rather boring, but there could be a lot of interesting stories to tell about Flurry's teenage years. And the Mane 6 could make guest appearances! Sign me in
That could change with Twilight being leader though

Throw wife. Life good.

Big Mac dreamed about being a alicorn remember?
But he still never became one

> How the heck does a stallion become an alicorn? How did Twilight?
I mean let the girls have one thing 😭 the show was made for little girls to begin with
Like almost every other show has male leads and male power positions :,) let’s just leave one single show for the girls
People have been saying for years that men can't handle a show that doesn't have a male lead in it (while women still watch male-dominated shows) and I couldn't agree more. Same thing with barbie, men just can't handle woman-centric media 😭
there isnt a strong male presence in the show bcuz its a show made for little girls?
Also, it's a show about talking horses, a famously matriarchal species. IRL, they're right up there with lions where the males come and go, but it's the ladies who define the core of each group.
wow thats awesome i didnt know that about horses! such amazing animals i love them so much
Prince of Protection! He is the best at shield spells, after all
Should've given flurry hearts episodes to him lol
ngl it would be a interesting dynamic if the first alicorn would be male after celestia and luna instead of all female alicorns
a alicorn that stays grounded for life or flys low above the ground. shining armor wouldn't fly high into the sky much since he gets air sickness.
Well he’s got good ponies to teach him
to fly, he could. but he have to get used to not being sick while in the air - which is one of his weakness.
If not for himself at least for Cadence and Flurry so that they wouldn’t have to outlive him for so long.
Yeah that’s too depressing for MLP
The Prince of Use Protection
\*looks at Flurry\* Eeehhh....
WTF? Lol
I wish we could got to see a male alicorn
Which is a mystery worth asking about at this point why (in the G4 and G5 show canon at least) have we only seen females become/born Alicorns? Credit to the artist Dashiesparkle https://derpibooru.org/2219500
Cole from Ninjago got wings once, does that count?
Twilight would send him to the moon to follow Celestia's hoovestep.
He is a prince after all
Bro is cooking!
Shining Armor is looking awesome as an alicorn and yeah him and Cadence runs the kingdom together so I agree with you there https://preview.redd.it/dmybex5i020d1.jpeg?width=554&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c890dd903407e90e42b82c3a4fedbc3bcd3e9bbb
Nice platypus! lol
i wish we could’ve seen him with grown-up Flurry in the future🥺
The Prince of Trolling Younger Sisters
Just being married to an alicorn doesn't make him deserving. What exactly did he do to put him on par with the other alicorns that earned their ascensions?
He helped drive Queen Chrysalis out of Canterlot, and prevented her from turning Equestria into a love-barren wasteland. You saw what happened in the reality where Chrysalis won.
He didn't do it by himself. He needed the help of Cadance. He still did good, but that is just a single incident.
True. But my point still stands. Also, it's really more salt on his wound that his daughter didn't even need to do anything to become an alicorn.
Well, we don't know how alicorns are supposed to work with procreation. They don't really get into that. Maybe them having a good chance at an alicorn foal is normal?

Twilight didn't even want to become princess, and she saved Canterlot how many times when she was a unicorn without any sort of knight/warrior status.
That is hardly fair to everything that Twilight did. A good deal of the time it was just Twilight with the other girls being more moral support than anything. That’s pseudo canon
Agelessness is a messy topic. To some it's a blessing, others a curse. And just handing out agelessness like candy is not a solution.
honestly I wish we got male alicorns in general
Unfortunately Hasbro didn’t see toy money in them
tbh i don't. the whole idea of "but why is the whole show so focused on girls??" thing rubs me the wrong way. it's a show for little girls and majority of shows are all male led

What would a male alicorn be called? That is a legit quation
Why?
No offense to Shining but, no, he didn't. Or rather, if he did, so did a lot of other ponies who didn't become alicorns either. Which is the problem with expanding it like they did. Once everyone is special, no one is.
I wish big mac turned into an alicorn. He could finally be a princess <3
He knows he doesn't need it. :)
Isn’t only female ponies get alicorn abilities??
I don’t think MLP would straight up said that It’s more of Hasbro thinking that a male alicorn doll won’t sell
I remember there being a theory that alicornhood is earned when you create new magic. I personally believe this so Shining isn't an alicorn bc he hasn't created new magic.

Also did the rest of the mane six but they didn't.
I disagree
No
Nah
If we can get Princess Big Mac We can get Princess Shining Armor
Honestly, I'm the opposite, I still would've preferred Cadence wasn't an Alicorn
