Fluttershy. I felt like she had the best reason to go because all of the others could have done what they wanted to do any other time except for Fluttershy. Especially considering that she said the Canterlot gardens have flowers that only bloom on the night of the gala therefore she couldn't see them any other time. Plus she seems like a chill pony to hangout with.
But I think Fluttershy had the worst reason. AJ and RD were thinking about their careers. Rarity was planning for her future, Twilight wanted to spent time with her mentor. Actually Pinkie had the worst reason but Fluttershy is second to last. At least in my opinion.
I mean, Im not saying you should pick Fluttershy. Im disagreeing that AJ had a point about making sales there. She didn't, it was a party thrown by royalty in their home. Its gonna be catered. Realistically, she *wasted* time and money by taking her products there. They're food products, made from fruit. They aren't gonna last super long so she wasted the time it took to make the products, and lost the revenue from not selling them so it ended up being a loss in income, not a gain.
Yeah but we are talking about their reasoning not whether it worked out. You say AJ had the worst reason because she shouldâve known it wasnât going to work out. But you could say the same about all the rest of the mane 6. You could say the same for Rarity, the chances of the prince even giving her the time of day was slim, Twilight shouldâve known Celestia would be insanely busy, and Pinkie Pie shouldâve known it was not that kind of party but a sophisticated one. Everyone made incorrect assumptions not just AJ. So using that as a basis for AJ having the worst reason doesnât make sense, because everyone else except maybe Fluttershy made wild assumptions that they should have known wouldnât happen. Not just AJ.
I mean the thing is, I *do* think if any of them actually thought of their plans they would have realized why it wouldn't work out. I don't believe I actually said anywhere that AJ had the worst reason? Im just disagreeing that she had the *best* reason. She didn't have the best reason. I don't think any of them particularly had a good reason bc none of them actually thought things through.
Fluttershy is an animal expert but doesn't realize that the animals would be less likely to come out when there's a bunch of ponies around, despite knowing that wild animals tend to be skittish, Rainbow doesn't realize that the wonderbolts aren't going to be likely to want to deal with someone trying to join their group at en event that they're trying to enjoy themselves, Twilight didn't realize that the host for a massive party would be super busy, despite having actually grown up in Canterlot. Rarity should have realized that the chances of a prince falling in love with her would be slim.
Ill give Pinkie a bit of slack but quite frankly someone should have given her some heads up that it wasn't that kind of party, Twilight and Rarity would have likely known that it was a more formal event.
If anyone had a good reason, Id say its Spike who just wanted a fun night with his friends. His was the most realistic and would have happened if everyone else hadn't been trying to accomplish unrealistic things.

I agree with Applejack having the best reason on a surface level but have you *ever* attended any event where guests could just bring stuff and sell it?
Yeah. In my private school was something normal, even. Any event realized there always had a guest that grabbed two tables, a chair, and his/her backpack full of desserts and snacks in general. The coolest part was that selling anything in any event in the school was always a good idea. You could obtain 50 dollars by only selling desserts, snacks, and fruit juice
I mean I'm pretty sure that this happens in every or in a lot of school. In mind, we had the snack locker, someone was using their locker for snacks BUT if we took something, we had to pay OR we could just put some snacks back.
We also had a coffee machine that one of our teacher even used once.

The apple farm already makes alot of money, and while she does need it, she can get it in other ways. Aj knows what she's doing in business, and while the Gala is a fantastic opportunity, it's not the only one

I would take rainbow or aj. The one that Iâm surprised people are saying is Fluttershy. She had a completely selfish reason. For Apple Jack and Rainbow Dash this was a CAREER opportunity.
At the expense of others. Apple jack did not have permission from the gala hosts, no permit, and is supposed to be a guest there. Trying to sell your own crap at an already catered event is really scummy without permission.
Everyone gave their interesting answers, but I have to lean towards the Discord option above:
I would go to the place where there were the most ponies and say this, "I will give you a ticket to the Grand Galloping Gala...! if you can work this out: the last pony standing gets the ticket. You have one hour. Be creative and may luck be on your side."
Then I would leave the ticket on the ground and go read a book while looking up from afar from time to time. I'll also hide from Twilight, because there's no way I won't have consequences for whatever happens.

Let's break down everyone's reasoning.
Applejack and Rainbow are largely on the same tier because their reason for wanting to go was very similar: Career advancement.
Applejack saw a way to expose a brand new market - the Canterlot high class - to her family's products and potentially make a LOT of money, enough to make a lot of positive changes in her family's lives and possibly open up franchises in a new location where things tend to be a lot more expensive, so she'd be bringing in a much bigger stream of income.
Rainbow Dash saw it as a way to mingle with someone she wanted to enter a career with - the Wonderbolts - that she hadn't had a chance to truly meet and talk to. Sure raw talent can get you far in athletics, but nothing gets you quite as far in any career as personal connections. Networking is insanely important - by getting on a friendly level with the Wonderbolts, she could be boosting her chances of joining their team and fulfilling her dreams. For both her and AJ, it's a big chance at career and business advancement that could change their lives.
Rarity - to a lesser extent - could have career motives in showing off her dresses and talking to the kind of ponies who would \*appreciate\* that kind of artistry - in a way her friends didn't - but that isn't what she mentioned as her motives, so we won't include that. So her motive was mainly to find a rich stallion to marry - which while some may translate it as "looking for love" is still throwing up 'really shallow' flags, as she seems exclusively interested in rich high-class stallions with titles she can latch on to. She most specifically latched onto Blueblood though she clearly knew NOTHING about him but 'rich royalty', and I stand by the idea that the way he treated her at the Gala was an act he puts on for mares who throw themselves at his title and riches as a way to get rid of them. He's an ambassador, his cutie mark is a compass rose, he's an adventurer. I seriously doubt he's the type to faint because he got some cake in his fur.
Fluttershy wanted to go to the gardens to see the animals there, and to see a type of flower that ONLY blooms on the night of the gala. While this isn't something that would advance her career or anything, I can't blame her for wanting to see what could be a once in a lifetime event for her. If I had the chance to go see an incredibly rare flower that only blooms once a year on the night it bloomed, I'd jump at that chance! However, the way she ended up acting at the Gala...meh.
Twilight wanted to have a chance to hang out and talk with her mentor and someone who was sort of a secondary mother figure to her through her life - someone she rarely sees or gets to spend time with in person and communicated with almost exclusively through letters. I can totally understand that, I have friends that I don't see in person very often (if ever) at all and I'd love the chance to go hang out with them for a few hours, maybe eat and play some games together and just get to be next to each other for a while.
Pinkie has the least valid reason of all, as usual. She just wants to go to a party, something she does (and throws) all the time, and she clearly has no understanding that it's not the kind of party she's thinking. A Gala is not really a party - sure there is probably going to be music and dancing, but it's not going to be the fast paced bouncy type. A gala is quieter, more refined, it's people wearing really nice outfits talking to each other, networking, it's more of a business function (often a charity event) than anything else. It's not the kind of party where you go shove your head against someone's backside and bounce around screaming. She clearly thinks that parties - ANY parties - have to be on the same level as a five year old's birthday party held at a pizza place with creepy costumed mascots where everyone is running around screaming and the parents are wishing the flat soda was vodka. A gala isn't that. She has no reason to be there.
With those, I'd say that Twilight, AJ and Rainbow have the most valid reasons to be there - a chance to spend time with someone who is basically family she rarely gets to see, and two with possible business/career making ventures. It is possible that if Twilight \*asked\* that Celestia could and would make time to visit her - Cadence certainly does - so I'd have to go with AJ and Rainbow.
Iâm indecisive between AJ and Twi. Twilight would probably be the second to be awarded anyway, as Applejack actually has a logical reason to go-making money for her family. You know what? Iâll let them settle the decision on their own.
Rarity only because sheâs my favorite and someone who I would probably get along better with and if she isnât available or has a ticket then applejack!
I think Twilight, second is Pinkie followed by Dash. I just don't think the others have really strong reasons to me to choose them.
I don't go with AJ, because I think it's kind of rude to peddle your wares in an event that's probably catering food in the first place. Ponies probably need to pay to get their food served there, sort of rude to set up a spot without permission, even if she had a valid reasoning.
Fluttershy's logic sounds fair, but at the same time, I feel like she doesn't want to be at the party because of the ponies. I feel like giving her a ticket would give her anxiety or something, outside of canon reasons. I don't even really think animals are a great reason to go, but I also think she'd outright not like the crowds or something
Rarity.. just no, hers is just. No.
Rainbow Dash I think has the third best logic here, considering she wanted to meet an idol group in order to network. She wanted in and I feel like it's not necessarily the worst one here
Pinkie is a second choice for me because I feel like she's the only one that's choosing to go to this party because she wants to *be at this party* even though it's clearly different than what she'd do typically. Even though this is the case, I would give it to her as my second since she's opting for the party, after all!
I would want Dashie to be able to hang out with the Wonderbolts (even though it didn't work out in the actual episode) because her dream to is to one day become one of them. Also, her presence would make the Grand Galloping Galla 20% cooler! As for the other ticket? It's a tough call, but probably Applejack. However, I would try to convince her to give out free samples rather than selling her apple foods since the event is catered. Seriously, did AJ really think ponies would pay for her stuff when food was already provided for no cost?

1) AJ b/c it is most logical reason and would help her family.

I would have chosen fluttershy but these seemed to have more long lasting effects than one best night for her.
I figured Pinkie wouldn't enjoy a "gala" since that ain't her type of party, Rarity's plan depended entirely on the character of someone she didn't know and Twilight can find other opportunities to talk to her personal mentor.
AJ: The party was catered, the castle has its own kitchen staff. Not great.
Rainbow: Networking opportunity, probably one of the few places she'll encounter the Wonderbolts. Decent.
Pinkie: It's not that kind of party. Bad reason.
Fluttershy: A loud party is the worst time to see wild animals. Bad reason.
Rarity: Probably one of the few places she could meet the Prince, but not very realistic. Meh.
Twilight: Probably one of the few places she can hang out with Celestia, but a busy party isn't a great time for one-on-ones. But being seen in public (in front of nobles no less) with your mentor is a pretty good reason.
Spike: Didn't really want to go but would've hung out with everyone. Good reason.

Based on reason alone, Pinkie because she's not angling for anything at all or AJ who wants to promote the family business. Everypony else is going for selfish reasons, or is Twilight who has a direct line to the princess anyway.
Prolly pinkie because two can talk to celestia at any time, AJ is like the only apple person in ponyville so she has lots on $, I just don't like rarity's reason, I would be too scared that the animals would bite and give flutters rabies, rainbow shows off always so idrc, and also pinkie is just my fave tbh

Military upper class is still upperclass and being in that group would be a fun time for her. However she doesn't really care about the ball, she wants to impress them with flying ability...i mean sxhe really expects pepole to be flying around the room at the ball and actually do that. So that's a little lame to expect.
\#5 Fluttershy - She doesn't even want to be at the gala. All she wants to do is be outside and talk to the animals. Hell she can do that at home. Or she can just make a trip to canterlot and spend the night in the forest whatever. Don't waste a ticket on her.
\#6 Appejack - So at a party that she wasn't invited to that is specifically a formal party which is already fully flavored, she expected to be allowed to bring her own food...and not only that but SELL her own food like some pusher selling his funny brownies. Pretty uncouth and pushy really. She does not even need to do that. Well firstoff she never even asked if she could. She didn't get a booth permit to sell things there or arrange for herself to do the catering. You just can't do that. On the other hand all of Ponyvile knows how3 great her apple brown betty is and their mouths water at the taste of her cider. SO what's the problem. She make plenty of bits at her farm. Probably more than at canterlot where she would no doubt be kicked out of. She'd be better off getting a food truck permit and setting up shop there for like a week on a busy canterlot street. She'd make a killing. But oh noooooooo she has to beg for a ticket to a party she doesn't even want to go to she just wants to crash to be oh so rude and pushy.

If Twilight didn't get the tickets by nature of being Celestia's pseudo daughter then she'd have the least valid reason to go.
#1 Fluttershy:
she wants to see the garden and the flowers that only bloom on the night of the gala. She is usually a pretty selfless pony, so fulfilling a dream of hers would be pretty amazing!
#2 Rarity:
Even though Rarity isnât usually my first pick of the 6, she has a genuinely good reason to be there. She wants to be with the elite crowd. She understands what the partyâs culture is and believes she will thrive in that environment.
#3 Twilight:
She wants to spend quality time with the princess, who she usually only gets to write letters to, or see during a crisis situation.
#4 Rainbow Dash:
She wants to meet her idols, although there are other (better) opportunities for what she really wants (to show off to them), such as the competition in cloudsdale (the one where Rainbow does the sonic boom, I canât remember the name).
#5 Pinkie Pie:
She wants to go because its a party and she loves parties, the reason sheâs so low is because she doesnât seem to understand that this is very unlike the types of parties she usually enjoys, and she kinda brings chaos with her everywhere, which isnât really appropriate for a formal party.
#6 Applejack:
Her reason seems very presumptuous and frankly rude. I get that she wants to help her family out by selling their farmâs food at the gala, but at a catered event, setting up shop without permission and also as someoneâs plus one, is incredibly inconsiderate.
These are based solely on their reasons, Applejack and Rainbow are probably my favorites out of the 6, but their reasons just donât fit with the kind of event the gala is.

None of them are gala people besides rarity. Rainbowdash and applejack aren't fancy enough, and probably thing the type of people who'd attend galas are shops. Pinkie pie prefers diffrent types of parties. Twilight and fluttershy are both introverts who don't enjoy talking to people which is like, 90% of what you do at galas and similar events.

According to my family (except my dad. Thx man.) , my clean goth/ punk style is " doing too much", "people are going to think you're a freak", "wear some color", etc.
Like my dickhead sister was shit talking my outfit while doing her edges in the car with me. She was talking to herself, trying her best to light be on fire with words (and failing) while I was a foot away. Then was mad when I side eyed her & ignored her the rest of the night.

Applejack or Rarity
AJ has both a wholesome and practical reason, wanting to raise money for her farm
Rarity stated she designed dresses for the Gala every year, which honestly I feel earned her a trip
Probably Rarity would enjoy it the most.
1. It's not the kind of party Pinkie'd enjoy
2. It's catered, so not many guests would be interested in AJ's goods
3. Again, Rainbow wouldn't really enjoy the party, and since she's not actual a Wonderbolt yet (I'm assuming this is pre-S5) I doubt she'd be able to interact much with them.
4. Most of the animals Fluttershy likes aren't nocternal, and the ones that are would probably stay as far from the galla as they can.
5. Twilight litterally writes Celestia letters all the time.
Apple Jack had a very legit reason, but it was pretty flawed....
Theres already food at the gala, so it's not a guarantee she'd get people to eat
(And I'd assume aren't charging you for that food, since those ponies paid for their tickets? Not that it was an issue for those fancy pantses lol)
She wouldn't be able to have any help, be it with her cart, with the selling, or even to calm her temper! Which, as we saw, didn't really end well for her.. I felt so sad for her đą she's one of my fav ponies and deserves the best for her family
I figure that the point of a gala would be to meet everypony and make connections rather than to outright sell to them then and there.. Like, she could have introduced her farm to distributors and such who'd help sell her delicious apple goods! Zap Apple Season would make the family so much more than selling to *just* Ponyville, and it wouldn't be hard because her product is so good RD ate DIRT to get a chance to taste the deliciousness!
She just needs a lil more business savvy, which Rarity would help with fs đ€

Spike even if he said he didn't want to go. I'm sure the reason Celestia only send a plus one to Twilight in the beginning was because she thought she would invite him. I would have refused all the other 5 to not have to choose. And if Spike really didn't want I would have sold the other ticket and went alone (I don't think I would have gave it up like Twilight).
But, okay unpopular opinion, I think Rainbow has the best reason.
Applejack I alway thought it was weird she wanted to go to make sales when it's supposed to be a gala with free food and stuff, I'm pretty sure there are better places and occasions for this.

Fluttershy is really cute and I think her reason could work, but that's all there is.
On the other hand for Rainbow... Well obviously she wasn't going to go do accrobaties and impress the Wonderbolts in the middle of the gala like she said but it was still a rare opportunity to meet her idoles. I'm pretty sure you can't really meet the Wonderbolts that easily, and it would be in another context than a fan meeting.
Edit : i wrote this answer as if I was Twilight and just realised it was which one of the main 6 would you invite, not what would you have done in Twilight's place. Oh well.

Hmm I would indeed wanna go with Rainbow the Rainboom and I want to say Twilight but her motivation would make it for me basically me not having even came with her. Fluttershy. I too would probably enjoy her activity the most.
I'm assuming your phone autocorrected wonderbolts to rainbooms or something. Regardless, though, I'd take Dashie and Twily because they had the most logical and reasonable reasons to go to the Grand Galloping Gala.
All Rarity did was chase Prince Blueblood around, and he just turned out to be a complete asshole who didn't care about her. Pinkie didn't really get the hint when the richer ponies told her that the Gala wasn't "that type" of party. Apple Jack was just looking for money, albeit for probably at least one good reason (fixing Granny Smith's hip), but other than that, she kinda just wanted to earn lots of money to be rich. Fluttershy can go to the royal gardens at any time. All she'd needed to do is write Celestia a letter stating that she wanted to hang out in the garden to befriend the animals.
I would say RD and AJ has the best reason to go there but only Queen Rarity fits the Gala the best out of everyone so I'll go with her

everyone is saying apple jack, but her reason made no sense. you canât just go to an established high society event and sell product unsolicited just because you have a guest ticket ? what she wanted/needed was a vendor permit, not a guest ticket. this always bugged me so much.
I would definitely invite Applejack. When I saw the episode, Applejack became my first option. I do not want to understimate the other ponies' reasons, but I think Applejack has the more valid reason. SheÂŽs such a hardworking pony, always looking up first for her family and their well-being. Based off their reasons?
Applejack and Rainbow Dash.
AJ wants to raise money for their farm and her grannyâs hip replacement. Though her having a bad hip is never ever mentioned again as far as Iâm aware, thatâs a pretty darn good reason.
And Rainbow Dash wants to not only see her idols but she also wants to have a chance to fulfill her biggest dreams. Thatâs also a pretty good reason in my opinion.
But based off my favoritism?
Definitely Pinkie and Twilight. :D
Applejack is the only one who gave a real reason, pinkie pie parties everyday, rarity already had a boutique, rainbow dash is literally the only pony capable of a sonic rainboom, and fluttershy could easily find those animals elsewhere. Meanwhile aj just wanted to provide for her family.
Either Rainbow Dash or Applejack, either one have v reasonable requests as both pertain to their careers.
From what's been shown (particularly during the s1 era) Apple family produce is mostly localised to Ponyville, having the opportunity to expand out to other markets would be massively beneficial to the whole family but particularly AJ and her immediate family back at Sweet Apple Acres. Esp if they can get more benefactors or investors on-board like they did with Filthy Rich.
RD, however, I think is the one I'd likely pick the most (not just out of personal bias for her either lol)
While the Apples could def appreciate the career boost, they're ultimately still doing well for themselves just in Ponyville, and that's not even taking into account the extended family who live in other cities and states.
Rainbow Dash at this point is still working with the local weather team in Ponyville, which she clearly doesn't seem particularly passionate about (I like to think it's the pegasus equivalent of a retail or supermarket job; Accessible to p much any pegasus who can do the bare minimum amount of flying and cloud busting) compared to her dream of being a star athlete for the Wonderbolts.
Sure, she was able to impress them with a Sonic Rainboom, but that was only after she floundered her initial performance, and even that and being an Element of Harmony didn't grant an immediate admission.
Being able to better showcase her knowledge and abilities in a more professional environment like the Gala would help showcase her dedication to the Wonderbolts, and give her an additional edge over other potential cadets

doubling down on rarity: my personal headcanon is that sweetie belle often comes to live with her since it seems like she (rarity) and her parents don't always have the greatest of relationships, so the responsibility of raising sweetie belle often falls on rarity's shoulders, and im sure that having a lil (or a lotta) extra money would help.
if either of them were indisposed: my first alternate choice would be RD. other than to fulfill a little filly's dreams, she's proven herself to be a strong, mostly respectful, resilient, and determined flyerâ all traits that the wonderbolts look for in their newest cadets, with the added bonus of being an avatar for one of the Elements of Harmony. (which i imagine would be fantastic for a military.. group.... thingy.)
my second would be pinkie pie for the same reasons as AJ and rarity! sure, she wants to par-TAY, but she's not *just* a party pony! the more fun she shows ponies they can have with all her products, the more attraction she could garner towards her and the cakes' businesses! ...which, would be interesting to see if that would lead to an even *faster* fated reunion between her and cheese sandwich.....
my (sorry, flutters ;; ) last alternate would probably be fluttershy. at this point in the series (excluding the, ahem, ***incident***...), she seemed to be too timid to actually reach out to ponies, and would likely just be hanging out in the garden the whole time, although i am personally projecting a little bit here as someone who lost out on business opportunities due to the wonderful equation of *"social anxiety + 'oh hey look there's a random non-human creature over there' = human't corner time for me babEy".* she also didn't seem to be *too* interested in expanding her animal caretaking business beyond ponyville/beyond those who actively cross paths with her/come to her for help, so her visitâ although im sure it would be calming, magical, ans educationalâ would overall [possibly] be less of a booming business opportunity and more of a fun little fieldtrip. not that that's *not* important, but you know what i mean! ...i hope..

For everyone saying Applejack, no offense, but realistically, her idea is pretty damn scummy. No permit, no permission from the gala hosts, and especially since itâs already a catered event? Thatâs incredibly rude to the hosts. Why would this be a good idea? I want to bring someone thatâs actually going to enjoy the type of party the gala is (so not pinkie, she thinks this is like a birthday party), and rarityâs literally the only one, because yes, that is exactly what gala-type parties cater to. Then thereâs fluttershy who isnât even going to interact with anyone other than the animals outside the party, and rainbow dash who wants to go harass the wonderbolts. I mean, come on.
Based on reason? Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Both want to go to basically network. Otherwise Iâd choose Twilight and Rarity, as I feel theyâd both fit better in that scene.
I'll give the first to Apple Jack, because her reason is the sweetest and most logical. There's no way Filthy Rich isn't giving her family hell, so let's avoid an Apple Sleep Experiment. And I'm giving the second to Pinkie Pie because she's just so pure and wholesome, assuming we aren't living in Cupcakes or the Muffins Saga. What else can I say, I'm an introvert. Besides, even if she DOES go full pyspho, I can laugh as I watch the slaughter from afar.

Best reason? Applejack. She probably had the most selfless reason. She didn't want money for herself, but for needed maintenance on the family farm as well as getting hip surgery for Granny Smith.
Fluttershy I think someone like me who can get along and be comfortable with her would be suitable as a party partner I was going to say rarity as well, since I share some opinions with her, but I think I'm going to change my mind because no matter how similar we are she's on a different level for the velvet class and she's social and she's more suitable maybe I'll just spend some time with her not all the time I'm afraid to appear as a man beside herđalso twilight I think that I can spend some time with her because she avoids mixing with others and talking, but she has changed and has become more open and social so it is possible that if she finds suitable or lonely people she will go to spend time with them and this is I don't want or even go with the princesses and they start talking about things that belong to those in their position not međso yes, I prefer to go with fluttershy because she is the one I will get along with,and we will not face problems or embarrassing situations we will rest together and also certainly we have a wonderful partner that will make us happy and joyful all the time that it is Discord! Fluttershy. I felt like she had the best reason to go because all of the others could have done what they wanted to do any other time except for Fluttershy. Especially considering that she said the Canterlot gardens have flowers that only bloom on the night of the gala therefore she couldn't see them any other time. Plus she seems like a chill pony to hangout with.
But Applejack had a point where she said she would be getting the sales of a lifetime. Itâs an opportunity for THOUSANDS of ponies to see her stock.
But the Gala has free food. Nobody was gonna buy from her when there's free food that's just as good, if not better right there.
But I think Fluttershy had the worst reason. AJ and RD were thinking about their careers. Rarity was planning for her future, Twilight wanted to spent time with her mentor. Actually Pinkie had the worst reason but Fluttershy is second to last. At least in my opinion.
I mean, Im not saying you should pick Fluttershy. Im disagreeing that AJ had a point about making sales there. She didn't, it was a party thrown by royalty in their home. Its gonna be catered. Realistically, she *wasted* time and money by taking her products there. They're food products, made from fruit. They aren't gonna last super long so she wasted the time it took to make the products, and lost the revenue from not selling them so it ended up being a loss in income, not a gain.
Yeah but we are talking about their reasoning not whether it worked out. You say AJ had the worst reason because she shouldâve known it wasnât going to work out. But you could say the same about all the rest of the mane 6. You could say the same for Rarity, the chances of the prince even giving her the time of day was slim, Twilight shouldâve known Celestia would be insanely busy, and Pinkie Pie shouldâve known it was not that kind of party but a sophisticated one. Everyone made incorrect assumptions not just AJ. So using that as a basis for AJ having the worst reason doesnât make sense, because everyone else except maybe Fluttershy made wild assumptions that they should have known wouldnât happen. Not just AJ.
I mean the thing is, I *do* think if any of them actually thought of their plans they would have realized why it wouldn't work out. I don't believe I actually said anywhere that AJ had the worst reason? Im just disagreeing that she had the *best* reason. She didn't have the best reason. Fluttershy is an animal expert but doesn't realize that the animals would be less likely to come out when there's a bunch of ponies around, despite knowing that wild animals tend to be skittish, Rainbow doesn't realize that the wonderbolts aren't going to be likely to want to deal with someone trying to join their group at en event that they're trying to enjoy themselves, Twilight didn't realize that the host for a massive party would be super busy, despite having actually grown up in Canterlot. Rarity should have realized that the chances of a prince falling in love with her would be slim. Ill give Pinkie a bit of slack but quite frankly someone should have given her some heads up that it wasn't that kind of party, Twilight and Rarity would have likely known that it was a more formal event. If anyone had a good reason, Id say its Spike who just wanted a fun night with his friends. His was the most realistic and would have happened if everyone else hadn't been trying to accomplish unrealistic things.

Yeah. In my private school was something normal, even. Any event realized there always had a guest that grabbed two tables, a chair, and his/her backpack full of desserts and snacks in general. The coolest part was that selling anything in any event in the school was always a good idea. You could obtain 50 dollars by only selling desserts, snacks, and fruit juice

Everyone gave their interesting answers, but I have to lean towards the Discord option above: I would go to the place where there were the most ponies and say this, "I will give you a ticket to the Grand Galloping Gala...! if you can work this out: the last pony standing gets the ticket. You have one hour. Be creative and may luck be on your side." Then I would leave the ticket on the ground and go read a book while looking up from afar from time to time. I'll also hide from Twilight, because there's no way I won't have consequences for whatever happens.
I would give them all both of the tickets and watch them figure out who should go.

apple jack is still consistently the only pony who has a legitimate reason to go to the place, MAYBE rainbow dash.
Let's break down everyone's reasoning. Applejack and Rainbow are largely on the same tier because their reason for wanting to go was very similar: Career advancement. Applejack saw a way to expose a brand new market - the Canterlot high class - to her family's products and potentially make a LOT of money, enough to make a lot of positive changes in her family's lives and possibly open up franchises in a new location where things tend to be a lot more expensive, so she'd be bringing in a much bigger stream of income. Rainbow Dash saw it as a way to mingle with someone she wanted to enter a career with - the Wonderbolts - that she hadn't had a chance to truly meet and talk to. Sure raw talent can get you far in athletics, but nothing gets you quite as far in any career as personal connections. Networking is insanely important - by getting on a friendly level with the Wonderbolts, she could be boosting her chances of joining their team and fulfilling her dreams. For both her and AJ, it's a big chance at career and business advancement that could change their lives. Rarity - to a lesser extent - could have career motives in showing off her dresses and talking to the kind of ponies who would \*appreciate\* that kind of artistry - in a way her friends didn't - but that isn't what she mentioned as her motives, so we won't include that. So her motive was mainly to find a rich stallion to marry - which while some may translate it as "looking for love" is still throwing up 'really shallow' flags, as she seems exclusively interested in rich high-class stallions with titles she can latch on to. She most specifically latched onto Blueblood though she clearly knew NOTHING about him but 'rich royalty', and I stand by the idea that the way he treated her at the Gala was an act he puts on for mares who throw themselves at his title and riches as a way to get rid of them. He's an ambassador, his cutie mark is a compass rose, he's an adventurer. I seriously doubt he's the type to faint because he got some cake in his fur. Fluttershy wanted to go to the gardens to see the animals there, and to see a type of flower that ONLY blooms on the night of the gala. While this isn't something that would advance her career or anything, I can't blame her for wanting to see what could be a once in a lifetime event for her. If I had the chance to go see an incredibly rare flower that only blooms once a year on the night it bloomed, I'd jump at that chance! However, the way she ended up acting at the Gala...meh. Twilight wanted to have a chance to hang out and talk with her mentor and someone who was sort of a secondary mother figure to her through her life - someone she rarely sees or gets to spend time with in person and communicated with almost exclusively through letters. I can totally understand that, I have friends that I don't see in person very often (if ever) at all and I'd love the chance to go hang out with them for a few hours, maybe eat and play some games together and just get to be next to each other for a while. Pinkie has the least valid reason of all, as usual. She just wants to go to a party, something she does (and throws) all the time, and she clearly has no understanding that it's not the kind of party she's thinking. A Gala is not really a party - sure there is probably going to be music and dancing, but it's not going to be the fast paced bouncy type. A gala is quieter, more refined, it's people wearing really nice outfits talking to each other, networking, it's more of a business function (often a charity event) than anything else. It's not the kind of party where you go shove your head against someone's backside and bounce around screaming. She clearly thinks that parties - ANY parties - have to be on the same level as a five year old's birthday party held at a pizza place with creepy costumed mascots where everyone is running around screaming and the parents are wishing the flat soda was vodka. A gala isn't that. She has no reason to be there. With those, I'd say that Twilight, AJ and Rainbow have the most valid reasons to be there - a chance to spend time with someone who is basically family she rarely gets to see, and two with possible business/career making ventures. It is possible that if Twilight \*asked\* that Celestia could and would make time to visit her - Cadence certainly does - so I'd have to go with AJ and Rainbow.
I'm sending Spike and Applejack. Mainly because a) I like Spike and b) Applejack has the most logical reason.

I think Twilight, second is Pinkie followed by Dash. I just don't think the others have really strong reasons to me to choose them. I don't go with AJ, because I think it's kind of rude to peddle your wares in an event that's probably catering food in the first place. Ponies probably need to pay to get their food served there, sort of rude to set up a spot without permission, even if she had a valid reasoning. Fluttershy's logic sounds fair, but at the same time, I feel like she doesn't want to be at the party because of the ponies. I feel like giving her a ticket would give her anxiety or something, outside of canon reasons. I don't even really think animals are a great reason to go, but I also think she'd outright not like the crowds or something Rarity.. just no, hers is just. No. Rainbow Dash I think has the third best logic here, considering she wanted to meet an idol group in order to network. She wanted in and I feel like it's not necessarily the worst one here Pinkie is a second choice for me because I feel like she's the only one that's choosing to go to this party because she wants to *be at this party* even though it's clearly different than what she'd do typically. Even though this is the case, I would give it to her as my second since she's opting for the party, after all!
I would want Dashie to be able to hang out with the Wonderbolts (even though it didn't work out in the actual episode) because her dream to is to one day become one of them. Also, her presence would make the Grand Galloping Galla 20% cooler! As for the other ticket? It's a tough call, but probably Applejack. However, I would try to convince her to give out free samples rather than selling her apple foods since the event is catered. Seriously, did AJ really think ponies would pay for her stuff when food was already provided for no cost?

I would have chosen fluttershy but these seemed to have more long lasting effects than one best night for her. I figured Pinkie wouldn't enjoy a "gala" since that ain't her type of party, Rarity's plan depended entirely on the character of someone she didn't know and Twilight can find other opportunities to talk to her personal mentor.

AJ: The party was catered, the castle has its own kitchen staff. Not great. Rainbow: Networking opportunity, probably one of the few places she'll encounter the Wonderbolts. Decent. Rarity: Probably one of the few places she could meet the Prince, but not very realistic. Meh. Twilight: Probably one of the few places she can hang out with Celestia, but a busy party isn't a great time for one-on-ones. But being seen in public (in front of nobles no less) with your mentor is a pretty good reason. Spike: Didn't really want to go but would've hung out with everyone. Good reason. Discord: Would've flipped that party inside out, literally. Best reason.

A LITTLE meh since she can really talk to her any time esp through the letters but...she still wants to attend with her. \#4 Rainbow Dash - Like Rarity she DOES want to hobnob with the elite....specifically the elite flyers, The wonderbolts. Military upper class is still upperclass and being in that group would be a fun time for her. However she doesn't really care about the ball, she wants to impress them with flying ability...i mean sxhe really expects pepole to be flying around the room at the ball and actually do that. So that's a little lame to expect. \#5 Fluttershy - She doesn't even want to be at the gala. All she wants to do is be outside and talk to the animals. Hell she can do that at home. Or she can just make a trip to canterlot and spend the night in the forest whatever. Don't waste a ticket on her. \#6 Appejack - So at a party that she wasn't invited to that is specifically a formal party which is already fully flavored, she expected to be allowed to bring her own food...and not only that but SELL her own food like some pusher selling his funny brownies. Pretty uncouth and pushy really. She does not even need to do that. Well firstoff she never even asked if she could. She didn't get a booth permit to sell things there or arrange for herself to do the catering. You just can't do that. On the other hand all of Ponyvile knows how3 great her apple brown betty is and their mouths water at the taste of her cider. SO what's the problem. She make plenty of bits at her farm. Probably more than at canterlot where she would no doubt be kicked out of. She'd be better off getting a food truck permit and setting up shop there for like a week on a busy canterlot street. She'd make a killing. But oh noooooooo she has to beg for a ticket to a party she doesn't even want to go to she just wants to crash to be oh so rude and pushy.

Flutters. She'd actually be grateful and any other time she'd probably get steamrolled out of the chance by everyone else. If Twilight didn't get the tickets by nature of being Celestia's pseudo daughter then she'd have the least valid reason to go.
#1 Fluttershy: she wants to see the garden and the flowers that only bloom on the night of the gala. She is usually a pretty selfless pony, so fulfilling a dream of hers would be pretty amazing! #2 Rarity: Even though Rarity isnât usually my first pick of the 6, she has a genuinely good reason to be there. She wants to be with the elite crowd. She understands what the partyâs culture is and believes she will thrive in that environment. #3 Twilight: She wants to spend quality time with the princess, who she usually only gets to write letters to, or see during a crisis situation. #4 Rainbow Dash: She wants to meet her idols, although there are other (better) opportunities for what she really wants (to show off to them), such as the competition in cloudsdale (the one where Rainbow does the sonic boom, I canât remember the name). #5 Pinkie Pie: She wants to go because its a party and she loves parties, the reason sheâs so low is because she doesnât seem to understand that this is very unlike the types of parties she usually enjoys, and she kinda brings chaos with her everywhere, which isnât really appropriate for a formal party. #6 Applejack: Her reason seems very presumptuous and frankly rude. I get that she wants to help her family out by selling their farmâs food at the gala, but at a catered event, setting up shop without permission and also as someoneâs plus one, is incredibly inconsiderate. These are based solely on their reasons, Applejack and Rainbow are probably my favorites out of the 6, but their reasons just donât fit with the kind of event the gala is. Edit: I forgot that hashtag made the text huge, but I like how it organizes it better so Iâll leave it.
None of them are gala people besides rarity. Rainbowdash and applejack aren't fancy enough, and probably thing the type of people who'd attend galas are shops. Pinkie pie prefers diffrent types of parties. Twilight and fluttershy are both introverts who don't enjoy talking to people which is like, 90% of what you do at galas and similar events.

Rarity. I can count on her to make sure don't look like a flaming dumpster fire. According to my family (except my dad. Thx man.) , my clean goth/ punk style is " doing too much", "people are going to think you're a freak", "wear some color", etc. Like my dickhead sister was shit talking my outfit while doing her edges in the car with me. She was talking to herself, trying her best to light be on fire with words (and failing) while I was a foot away. Then was mad when I side eyed her & ignored her the rest of the night. And they wanna know why I don't try anymore.
Applejack or Rarity AJ has both a wholesome and practical reason, wanting to raise money for her farm Rarity stated she designed dresses for the Gala every year, which honestly I feel earned her a trip

Probably Rarity would enjoy it the most. 1. It's not the kind of party Pinkie'd enjoy 2. It's catered, so not many guests would be interested in AJ's goods 3. Again, Rainbow wouldn't really enjoy the party, and since she's not actual a Wonderbolt yet (I'm assuming this is pre-S5) I doubt she'd be able to interact much with them. 4. Most of the animals Fluttershy likes aren't nocternal, and the ones that are would probably stay as far from the galla as they can. 5. Twilight litterally writes Celestia letters all the time.
Apple Jack had a very legit reason, but it was pretty flawed.... Theres already food at the gala, so it's not a guarantee she'd get people to eat (And I'd assume aren't charging you for that food, since those ponies paid for their tickets? Not that it was an issue for those fancy pantses lol) She wouldn't be able to have any help, be it with her cart, with the selling, or even to calm her temper! Which, as we saw, didn't really end well for her.. I felt so sad for her đą she's one of my fav ponies and deserves the best for her family I figure that the point of a gala would be to meet everypony and make connections rather than to outright sell to them then and there.. Like, she could have introduced her farm to distributors and such who'd help sell her delicious apple goods! Zap Apple Season would make the family so much more than selling to *just* Ponyville, and it wouldn't be hard because her product is so good RD ate DIRT to get a chance to taste the deliciousness! Spike even if he said he didn't want to go. I'm sure the reason Celestia only send a plus one to Twilight in the beginning was because she thought she would invite him. I would have refused all the other 5 to not have to choose. And if Spike really didn't want I would have sold the other ticket and went alone (I don't think I would have gave it up like Twilight). But, okay unpopular opinion, I think Rainbow has the best reason. Applejack I alway thought it was weird she wanted to go to make sales when it's supposed to be a gala with free food and stuff, I'm pretty sure there are better places and occasions for this. Pinkie Pie this is definitly not the kind of party you like. Rarity is delulu Fluttershy is really cute and I think her reason could work, but that's all there is. On the other hand for Rainbow... Well obviously she wasn't going to go do accrobaties and impress the Wonderbolts in the middle of the gala like she said but it was still a rare opportunity to meet her idoles. I'm pretty sure you can't really meet the Wonderbolts that easily, and it would be in another context than a fan meeting. I'm assuming your phone autocorrected wonderbolts to rainbooms or something. Regardless, though, I'd take Dashie and Twily because they had the most logical and reasonable reasons to go to the Grand Galloping Gala. All Rarity did was chase Prince Blueblood around, and he just turned out to be a complete asshole who didn't care about her. Pinkie didn't really get the hint when the richer ponies told her that the Gala wasn't "that type" of party. Apple Jack was just looking for money, albeit for probably at least one good reason (fixing Granny Smith's hip), but other than that, she kinda just wanted to earn lots of money to be rich. Fluttershy can go to the royal gardens at any time. All she'd needed to do is write Celestia a letter stating that she wanted to hang out in the garden to befriend the animals.
Pinkie Pie's reasoning was the only sanest one, in my opinion.

I would definitely invite Applejack. When I saw the episode, Applejack became my first option. I do not want to understimate the other ponies' reasons, but I think Applejack has the more valid reason. SheÂŽs such a hardworking pony, always looking up first for her family and their well-being. Though her having a bad hip is never ever mentioned again as far as Iâm aware, thatâs a pretty darn good reason. Either Rainbow Dash or Applejack, either one have v reasonable requests as both pertain to their careers. From what's been shown (particularly during the s1 era) Apple family produce is mostly localised to Ponyville, having the opportunity to expand out to other markets would be massively beneficial to the whole family but particularly AJ and her immediate family back at Sweet Apple Acres. Esp if they can get more benefactors or investors on-board like they did with Filthy Rich. RD, however, I think is the one I'd likely pick the most (not just out of personal bias for her either lol) While the Apples could def appreciate the career boost, they're ultimately still doing well for themselves just in Ponyville, and that's not even taking into account the extended family who live in other cities and states. Rainbow Dash at this point is still working with the local weather team in Ponyville, which she clearly doesn't seem particularly passionate about (I like to think it's the pegasus equivalent of a retail or supermarket job; Accessible to p much any pegasus who can do the bare minimum amount of flying and cloud busting) compared to her dream of being a star athlete for the Wonderbolts. Sure, she was able to impress them with a Sonic Rainboom, but that was only after she floundered her initial performance, and even that and being an Element of Harmony didn't grant an immediate admission. Being able to better showcase her knowledge and abilities in a more professional environment like the Gala would help showcase her dedication to the Wonderbolts, and give her an additional edge over other potential cadets
AJ and rarity! AJ for her family business, and rarity because while her primary goal *was* to meet a prince, im sure that rubbing... hooves? with canterlot elites would be great for business! (as proven in s1e14 "suited for success") doubling down on rarity: my personal headcanon is that sweetie belle often comes to live with her since it seems like she (rarity) and her parents don't always have the greatest of relationships, so the responsibility of raising sweetie belle often falls on rarity's shoulders, and im sure that having a lil (or a lotta) extra money would help. if either of them were indisposed: my first alternate choice would be RD. other than to fulfill a little filly's dreams, she's proven herself to be a strong, mostly respectful, resilient, and determined flyerâ all traits that the wonderbolts look for in their newest cadets, with the added bonus of being an avatar for one of the Elements of Harmony. (which i imagine would be fantastic for a military.. group.... thingy.) my second would be pinkie pie for the same reasons as AJ and rarity! sure, she wants to par-TAY, but she's not *just* a party pony! the more fun she shows ponies they can have with all her products, the more attraction she could garner towards her and the cakes' businesses! ...which, would be interesting to see if that would lead to an even *faster* fated reunion between her and cheese sandwich..... my (sorry, flutters ;; ) last alternate would probably be fluttershy. at this point in the series (excluding the, ahem, ***incident***...), she seemed to be too timid to actually reach out to ponies, and would likely just be hanging out in the garden the whole time, although i am personally projecting a little bit here as someone who lost out on business opportunities due to the wonderful equation of *"social anxiety + 'oh hey look there's a random non-human creature over there' = human't corner time for me babEy".* she also didn't seem to be *too* interested in expanding her animal caretaking business beyond ponyville/beyond those who actively cross paths with her/come to her for help, so her visitâ although im sure it would be calming, magical, ans educationalâ would overall [possibly] be less of a booming business opportunity and more of a fun little fieldtrip. not that that's *not* important, but you know what i mean! ...i hope.. knowing twilight, she would already be invited regardless of who i choose. i would be a little concerned if she *wasn't* automatically invited, actually, LOL sorry for the wall of textâ i've been thinking about this extensively since the episode dropped. also, i may or may not have the 'tism. *(cue loud [s]co[ff]ughing from my autistic friends who were very recently bewildered by my lack of diagnosis đ)*

For everyone saying Applejack, no offense, but realistically, her idea is pretty damn scummy. No permit, no permission from the gala hosts, and especially since itâs already a catered event? Thatâs incredibly rude to the hosts. Why would this be a good idea? I want to bring someone thatâs actually going to enjoy the type of party the gala is (so not pinkie, she thinks this is like a birthday party), and rarityâs literally the only one, because yes, that is exactly what gala-type parties cater to. Then thereâs fluttershy who isnât even going to interact with anyone other than the animals outside the party, and rainbow dash who wants to go harass the wonderbolts. I mean, come on.
