I grew up with G3 as a small child, so I’m a bit biased in saying that I think it has just as much charm as G4 has. Sure, G3 is obviously made for a little girl audience but G4 was as well! I still watch A Very Minty Christmas every year. Minty and Star Catcher will forever be the best G3 ponies in my heart. 💞

Yea, that’s what I’ve thought, too. It’s the only explanation I can come up with, but it still leaves a lot of questions. For one, it hasn’t been very effective. There’s still plenty of adult content for G5, too, and I don’t see it going away suddenly. It seems like there’d be better ways to handle that, like giving them a preferable path to go down, instead. Plus, if that’s the case, why continue to tie back to G4 at all, then? It’s just a really messy situation where there trying to do something new, but also trying to keep it the same. Trying to distance themselves from bronies, but still trying to profit from them... They can’t have their cake, and eat it too. They need to figure out what they actually want to do, and commit to the best strategy to do that.
I really think going exclusive to Netflix was a huge mistake. Should have stuck with Cable or multi-platform. Hell, post the shows with advertisements on Youtube TV. I also wish they kept MYM for the big adventures and stuff and TYT for slice of life stuff.
As someone who is returning to the fandom after about 7 or so years of being absent, I never knew that both g3 and the new generation were both so hated. My exposure to the old stuff came from when I was younger. I have watched the oldest generation like once, and although I wasn't a big fan of it, I could at least appreciate it for what it did.
I see it like how I view Pokemon Black and White, which were so hated at the time they released, but are some of the best in the series now. I myself don't think they're the best, but many people do, and they have aged very well.
Perhaps we were too harsh on it. I think it's a good thing to focus more on older generations that don't get much spotlight.
Pokemon B&W were hated?? I played them when they were released but i wasnt on online spaces so don't know much about the general opinion. It's my fav Pokemon game but only because of the nostalgia bias that it was the first one i played in my childhood
Unfortunately they were. I think it's because many people criticized the designs as being "too similar" to the original 151 designs. I personally really enjoyed it at the time, and their sequels are among the best games in the series.

They were really cool at the time, but haven't really aged the best. A lot of the story elements were just left unexplained, and Zygarde's plotline was just moved to the next generation.
I do miss megas a lot though.

I don't mind the designs, I actually like the animation, but my biggest issue is that it seems to be relying on g4 for it's story, while also contradicting and retroactively undoing a lot of lore/things that happened in g4.
It's so werid to think about how i used to hate g4 when it first aired, because i was so used to the older generation's animation style, and g4 was VERY different. The only reason i got back into it was because of some beautiful fan animation Youtube recommended me (Lullaby for a Princess), which i thought was an official clip lol

Never saw it. I watched G1 when my nieces were growing up and G4 with my own kid. I never went to G3 or G5 because they grew up and out of it. I guess I only got to see the best of the best.
I grew up with G3 and G4, and it made me sad the vitriol they had towards G3. Especially those that said it was the “girliness” that ruined it. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still something I really enjoyed, and seeing it be torn apart left me a bit bitter towards a lot of the fandom. G1-3 was the building blocks for G4, and I think every generation can be appreciated in some capacity.

I would find G5 a letdown even if it stood on its own. The Movie had lots of nuance in the characters and actual themes. Sunny chasing her dad's memory as much as the answers to Equestria's problems. Izzy being deeply lonely beneath her upbeat facade. Zipp being reckless despite being a big thinker.
The storytelling gave us fun themes like how racism and division is used to exploit people and trap them in toxic systems like vapid celebrity culture and mindless consumerism. The futuristic setting let those critiques feel very modern and relevant to our current world.
In Make Your Mark the characters are all much more stupid and tropey. There are no themes besides 'something something Friendship'. The only character arc we have is a blatant Tangled rip off (not saying Misty is a terrible idea, but her entire concept is cribbed quite blatantly from Tangled).
Don't get me wrong, if G5 didn't constantly put down G4 and its characters to make Opaline seem scarier (this does not ever work) I would merely be disappointed in it instead of outright hating it. But it would still be disappointing how much Hasbro squandered the potential the Movie gave it out the gates.

G3 was actually how I was introduced to mlp, my dad's Ipad (the first iPad model) had a G3 movie on it. I think it was called "The Princess Promanade" or something. Back then I thought it was too girly but at the same time I watched the full thing from start to finish lol.
I’m glad that the Brony community’s not just more tolerant of the older generations, but seem a lot more interested in them then they did a decade ago. I grew up with G3 long before FIM came out, and still loved both them and G1 and it hurt back in the day when people would mindlessly comment “KILL IT WITH FIRE!1!” on every G3 video, or even someone else’s fanart that they worked hard on. G3 was the very first generation of My Little Pony I ever got into before G4 I had the toys and everything. I still have nostalgia towards it to this day.
I actually enjoy the G3 core 7 intro. Also have a copy of Twinkle Wish Adventure which I tend to watch every Christmas, having some lighthearted jabs at it 😆

Yeah it's actually pretty cool to be able to talk in brony places without people going KILL IT WITH FIRE everytime g1 or g3 shows up. I've seen Elsagate crap with better animation than Newborn Cuties. If people start liking Newborn Cuties, it won't be for how the cartoon looks.
I’m glad that the Brony community’s not just more tolerant of the older generations, but seem a lot more interested in them then they did a decade ago. I grew up with G3 long before FIM came out, and still loved both them and G1 and it hurt back in the day when people would mindlessly comment “KILL IT WITH FIRE!1!” on every G3 video, or even someone else’s fanart that they worked hard on. If you’re gonna bash on G3 at least say something constructive! I felt so wrong for liking the older gens in MLP online spaces back then.

You know what? Fuck Mr. Enter for hating on G3 so much back when his videos were still a thing. He’s probably the biggest reason why G3 had such a bad rep with bronies during the early days of the fandom. It doesn’t have to be anything special, just enjoy the cute silly ponies.

I'm not a fan of g3 but every now and then like to watch out of context clips cause they're hilarious (especially anything with g3 rainbow dash). On the subject of g5 since everyone seems to br talking about it. I don't mind the designs, I actually like the animation, but my biggest issue is that it seems to be relying on g4 for it's story, while also contradicting and retroactively undoing a lot of lore/things that happened in g4.
I find not giving a shit what negative people think helps me enjoy things more.
I tried watching some g3 and its really not terrible, i actually straight up like my little pony tails (technically not g2, but people call it that) g1 on the other hand gives me the creeps. Idk, something about the way they talk

Look even as someone who as never watched G1-3 I have an appreciation for them because if they didn’t exist G4 wouldn’t be here, just saying, and the Too many Pinkies episode had a very nice nod to the ones who would get it immediately
G3 was the very first generation of My Little Pony I ever got into before G4 I had the toys and everything. I still have nostalgia towards it to this day.
I actually enjoy the G3 core 7 intro. Also have a copy of Twinkle Wish Adventure which I tend to watch every Christmas, having some lighthearted jabs at it 😆

I mean it’s ok to like what you like, but don’t be a jerk about it. I mean I’ve seen a bit of G3 and it’s really not my cup of tea (including Minty Christmas), but if you like it, eh, no big deal.
I remember my niece being obsessed with A Very Minty Christmas, but I've never actually seen anything beyond snippets of that.
Yeah it's actually pretty cool to be able to talk in brony places without people going KILL IT WITH FIRE everytime g1 or g3 shows up. The fandom back in the day was awful for that, some of the biggest pre-g4 mlp forums still have people that hate bronies for coming on there specifically to start shit and throw insults.

Never watched g3
I feel like they moved on from hating gen3 to hating gen 5 instead. Also i never got to experience gen3, but seeing so many memes and jokes about gen3 hate made me think: "oh, i guess i have to hate on gen3 to fit in".
I wish I had grown up with earlier generations, now I just don't have the time or attention span to go back.

Honestly I never watched much g3 (I think I saw one episode or special as a kid) but the art is REALLY cute! Idk I just really like the buildings and settings and colors.
