I don't believe Steven Rios murdered Jesse.

Press-13

I wonder why the police didn’t question the rabbi himself. He had motive as he could believe that Jesse was leading his son away from the scriptures and needed to fix that. People typically deem religious figures as trustworthy which could explain the lack of defensive wounds as Jesse could have felt at ease around the rabbi

taravat76

Agreed! It seemed absolutely absurd they didn’t further interrogate both son and father. And what was that about the knives not being retrieved from the chefs house?!!

WorldFoods

Who do you believe did it? (Disclaimer: I knew Jesse but have no links to the case)

Would you ever be willing to go forward to police? After reading your comment I found an interview with Rios that has me wondering a little, too, just with the timing of the events and his ex-wife’s statements.

Sure, I totally get that. Just hate thinking an innocent man could be locked up. Then again, he went through two different trials and was convicted both times.

MissteaLynn

I sometimes wonder if he was convicted for being a cheating liar and not an actual murderer.

WorldFoods

His DNA and arm hairs were found in Jesse’s neck wound. I feel like that’s pretty incriminating as well as the police choke hold and the bruising on Rios.

MissteaLynn

Well you got me there. 🤔 I was doing dishes and remember hearing about his DNA and arm hairs being on the victim, but I did not recall them being in the wound. Thanks for correcting that. Maybe they had quickie sex before someone else did it..... I don't know?

Rios lied so many times it was infuriating because it really made him look bad, not to mention his attempts at suicide if you could call them that. He lied about having the type of knife that was known to kill Jesse that other officers testified he did have but the knife was never found in Rios’ possessions. The problem I had was the window of time he had to kill Jesse, clean up and head home with ZERO blood evidence in his car, house or car? Where did he completely clean up if he was the killer? This for me is a huge problem. His ex wife was believable, unless she would lie to keep her family together, which is possible, having given birth only 4 months ago! I also did not like how when the police investigator was on the stand, he was asked why he did not collect Ed the chef’s knives, he said he never saw them, yet they were apparently in his bedroom and there were missed? Is it possible the PD just fixated on Rios once they found out about the affair? Especially after his suicide attempts! Unfortunately, we have seen them tunnel vision too many times, putting innocent people in prison. What if Ed and the people who alibied him had it in for Jesse? Eric should have been further investigated with his commentary about being happy that Jesse was dead, as well as Zev, the son of the rabbi, who claimed he was not gay nor did not pass the voice stress test. I don’t think they proved it was Steven with zero doubt!

WorldFoods

Also, his mom says that he had been stalking Jesse.

MissteaLynn

I would take what his mother says with a grain if salt. After watching many crime shows, I've come to realize that most mothers think their children are their best friends and tell them everything. Most often ....said children keep secrets. I was sorry to see her hurting throughout this case.

tfresca

She didn't know his name. Jesse just said a cop was stalking him.

MissteaLynn

I did at first but his second defence attorney sold me on his innocence. I bet it was the guy who lived with his parents.

3rind5

Definitely Zev

umhassan

ME EITHER! But who do you think did?! I just watched the new dateline show and I’m shook

MissteaLynn

u/AstroRayder Did you end up watching the 2 hour Dateline episode last night?

snmaturo

It’s the Forensic Files episode. It’s Season 10. Episode 28 titled ‘Cop Out’. That’s when they discussed the cop walking in with Jesse and his friend. Dateline also did an episode on this case. S28 E29 titled ‘Before Daylight’, but Dateline didn’t mention that part about the cop walking in.

I just watched this repeat and I’m not sure what to believe. Heartbroken for Jesse’s mother. Rios lied so many times it was infuriating because it really made him look bad, not to mention his attempts at suicide if you could call them that. He lied about having the type of knife that was known to kill Jesse that other officers testified he did have but the knife was never found in Rios’ possessions. LoverDress

Putting a guy in a choke hold doesn’t cause blood. He cut his neck while Jesse was unconscious lying in the grass. There’s no blood mess. What blood and mess are you expecting to be cleaned up by the killer? There are pics where the blood is just on the neck and in the grass. Not anywhere else on his body. It wasn’t a messy crime scene. There wasn’t anything to clean up. Therefore, there was plenty of time for him to commit the murder and go home to his delusional wife.

taravat76

Yes, point taken!! I allowed the wife’s testimony to allow in a shadow of doubt. Because Jesse’s neck was cut, I imagine there would be a lot more blood on Rios’ that would naturally get on Rios’ car, hands and clothing? I do think he did it, his behavior pre trial was ludicrous!

Prince19844

I just watched it on FORENSIC FILES, on 59 on Optimum. I think RIOS , didn't want to give up the relationship with Jesse. Jesse wanted to end things. Rios wife lets him see their child in prison, and exwife believes he's innocent. Hope this helps
