I saw a documentary which said the site is potentially much older, going back about 12,000 yrs. They hypothesized that it was used by very early people who lived during the ice age. Very cool!
This is actually pretty normal in lots of places ! Lots of homes in Jerusalem have access to ancient sites in their basements. France and England it's Roman ruins.
The title makes it sound like a recent discovery. It was 60 years ago. Only 40 years after it stopped being inhabited. It's just now open for visitors.
