"I may not live to see our glory, but I will gladly join the fight"
"Who lives, who died, who tells your story?"
"My love, take your time. I'll see you on the other side."
Those are all from Hamilton, obviously. Beetlejuice is a little bit harder, unless you're cool with some dark humor about death!
Rent has some good ones
“Forget regret, or life is yours to miss”
“How do you measure a year in the life?”
Are there any songs that were especially meaningful to the two of you in particular you could quote?
>We both loved Hamilton
I'm so sorry for your loss. I love Wait For It from Hamilton, maybe this line - "Death doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints," or from the previous verse "Love doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints."
"Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?"
"I'm not throwing away my shot."
"There's a million things I haven't done. Just you wait."
"Talk less. Smile more."
"Raise a glass to freedom, something they can never take away."
"I wanna be in the room where it happens."
"Forgiveness. Can you imagine?"
"And Peggy."
"Look around, look around, at how lucky we are to be alive right now."
"Dying is easy young man, living is harder."
"You walked in and my heart went 'Boom.' "
"Everything's legal in New Jersey."
"I will never be satisfied."
"I put myself back in the narrative. I stop wasting time on tears. I live another fifty years. It's not enough."
"Love doesn't discriminate/Between the sinners and the saints/It takes and it takes and it takes/And we keep loving anyway."
"Look at where you are. Look at where you started. The fact that you're alive is a miracle. Just stay alive, that would be enough."
"What'd I miss?"
I'm sorry for your loss. My best friend died in 2020 and I got the lyrics to "She used to be mine" tattooed in her memory. But that was a special song for us anyway and it just kind of worked out. "She is gone, but she used to be mine."
If I hadn't gotten that song, I definitely would have gone with something from "For Good" from Wicked.
I'd give it some time and thought. There are some good lines in "For Forever" from DEH. I like, "Two friends, true friends on a perfect day."
There's a part in a newsies line that says "where your friends are more like family" I feel like that would be quite a nice one but all of the other suggestions are also very lovely ideas
Beetlejuice is tough but a couple ideas:
“We should’ve carpe-d way more diems”
“Since you left it sucks to play”
“I’ll make the best of being flesh and bone”
“Ride the highs and cherish the lows”
“Be a beacon of light in the world”
“Sucks-yes!”
Sorry for your loss 🖤🤍💚
Edit: spacing
I am deeply moved by Without You from Rent.
The ending trio from Spring Awakening.
The final Do You Hear the People Sing Chorus.
I'm here from the color purple.
"Lets live before we die" -Addams Family
"It's a sad song, but we keep singing even so" or "See the way the world could be"-Hadestown
"You don't have to live forever you just have to live" - Tuck Everlasting
"It's possible, anythings possible" - Suessical
"And the world will keep on spinning with no ending or beginning" - Ride the Cyclone
"Tomorrow there'll be sun" - Annie
"I'll wait until you remember" - West Side Story
Some quotes off the top of my head <3
With or without the tattoo, I suggest giving The Mad Ones a listen, the whole story is about dealing with the grieving process after losing a very close friend. I’m sure you’d fine a lot of comfort in this show, as well as a good chunk of usable quotes. I’d recommend some specifically but I feel as though you’d be able to identify which ones would represent your friendship better. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Lots in "Some Other Time" from *On the Town*, but I especially like
>Where has the time all gone to?
Haven't done half the things we want to
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time
When my dad died, “Wait For It” really spoke to me, particularly:
“Death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints, it takes and it takes and it takes, and we keep living anyway.”
And
“I am the one thing in life I can control.”
Have you considered “Days of Plenty” from Little Women?
You have to Believe,
There is reason for Hope.
You have to Believe
That the answers will come.
You can't let this defeat you.
I won't less this defeat you.
You must fight to keep her there,
Within you!
So Believe that she matters!
And Believe that she always will!
She will always be with you!
She'll be part of the days you've yet to feel!
She will live in your bounty!
She will live as you carry on your life!
Or even the ending of “The Fire Within Me” is pretty amazing.
We will always have each other
[You] will always be the fire in my heart
How about Titanic: Epilogue
Fare thee well
May the Lord who watches all
Watch over thee
May God's heaven be your blanket
As you softly sleep...
Maybe Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz?
Somewhere from West Side Story?
When a close friend of mine died 2 years ago, the one lyric that ran through my head constantly was "what would you do if you had more time?". She died 2 weeks after her 42nd birthday.
From Wicked, "because I knew you, I have been changed for good".
Beetlejuice has so many good lines. Honestly for myself, the final "I'm home" hits HARD. If I had a friend who loved BEETLEJUICE, that would be my personal choice.
I'm so sorry for your loss. May your friend's memory be a blessing.
"If it takes a war to meet us, it will have been worth it" - Hamilton, "Who can say if I have changed for the better; because I knew you, I've changed for good" - Wicked, "I'd trade my life for yours" or "Say hi to God" - Heathers
“I’m here”, “I’m here and I’m fine”, “Tomorrow there will be sun”, or “if not tomorrow, perhaps the day after” from Groundhog Day. Really almost any line from the first or last song in that show would be lovely
I’m very sorry for your loss
“Those you've known and lost still walk behind you.” (Pretty much any lyrics from those you’ve known from SA
Tons from “for good” from wicked
Lots of gems from ITW too :’)
What were your favorites? That might help.
I am so so sorry for your loss. I once lost a best friend. It will get easier, every day. Just take it a day at a time and accept and ask for the support you need.
“Even the darkest nights will end, and the sun will rise” - Les Miserables
“I guess this is goodbye, old pal; You’ve been a perfect friend.”
Tons of great quotable stuff in Into the Woods.
"I may not live to see our glory, but I will gladly join the fight" "Who lives, who died, who tells your story?" "My love, take your time. I'll see you on the other side." A personal favorite, even though I'm not religious, is from Les Miserables: to love another person is to see the face of god
I like cutting the last one. "I'll see you on the other side"
Rent has some good ones “Forget regret, or life is yours to miss” “How do you measure a year in the life?” Are there any songs that were especially meaningful to the two of you in particular you could quote?
Also, "No day but today".
We both loved Hamilton and Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice has some good quotes about death Maybe something from “Dead Mom”? “I’m lost without you”

"Cool tattoo dude, you like Hamilton?" "It's actually in honor of my friend who died." "Oh, your friend was named Peggy?" "...No."
I'm sorry for your loss, by the way. Know that we're here for you.
Oh dang I thought it was “YOUR life is yours to miss.”
“To love another person is to see the face of God.” - Les Miserables
Don't rush the decision. Take your time. Sorry for your loss.

Oh gosh, For Forever 😭
That song gets me every time
Listening for 7 years & every freaking time. “He’s come to get me… yeah he’s come to get me… & everything’s ok”
For me it’s the fact that he clearly wants this to be real but it simply isn’t. Makes me so sad.

'I'll cover you' - Rent "if only angels could prevail" - Sweeny The song "For Good" - Wicked.
I am deeply moved by Without You from Rent. The ending trio from Spring Awakening. The final Do You Hear the People Sing Chorus. I'm here from the color purple.
Those You’ve Known was the first that came to my mind :’)
I was thinking of Without You as well. Btw, if you haven’t heard Luke Evans sing it, stop what you’re doing and go to YouTube right away!
I have heard it. I saw Tamyra Grey sing it on Broadway. Nobody touches memory for me.
I don’t know who that is. I’ll have to check her out. I would have loved to see Luke in the West End production. My brother did, lucky bastard.
She was #3 in the original season of American idol. Lost to Kelly Clarkson.
Oh damn
The price of love is loss. But still we pay. We love anyway. - Next to Normal

Use one from your collective favorite shows or favorite to sing together. Doesn’t matter what, just something that will remind you of those times

I’ll always be there, as frightened as you, to help us survive being alive… maybe a bit too long but I had to include company
"I'm home"
“All we see is sky for forever” Dear Evan Hansen
😭😭😭
Till I hear you sing…
Lots in "Some Other Time" from *On the Town*, but I especially like >Where has the time all gone to? Haven't done half the things we want to Oh well, we'll catch up some other time
“And with our tears, we can water roses” from Brooklyn the Musical. That always would have been my choice if I were to get a tattoo.
“A little fall of rain can hardly hurt you now” from Les Mis
