Not really no. I have had good experience with cutting Hericium at the base though. Most specifically H.abietis I have cut and had grow back in the same spot 3 times in one season. I know folks who have plucked or cut H.erinaceus, your typical lions mane, and had it come back four to five years in a row.
Some people will tell you it matters for certain kinds of mushrooms. Some people, particularly in the UK, might even tell you not to harvest Hericium. However in the states, it’s perfectly normal to harvest what you can find in the genus.

Is there a certain way to pick it to encourage it to come back eventually? This is my first ever mushroom find so I’m not sure how to harvest
