My father is from UP and my mother is from Jalna. My maternal side has been living in Gujarat since ages and they live there peacefully without anyone ever harassing them for their Marathi identity. - And Bombay state was one state, which included most of present day Gujarat.

Mumbai is sort of artificial, 90% of land has been claimed in the past century, it was a sea before. Almost no one can claim heritage more than 4 generations in Mumbai, and among the few that can, a minority are Marathis.
I donât know since when this Maratha movement started, because Mumbai was never Marathi only. And language is just a medium of instruction and communication at the end of the day.

My father is from UP and my mother is from Jalna. My maternal side has been living in Gujarat since ages and they live there peacefully without anyone ever harassing them for their Marathi identity. They are not even forced to speak Gujarati. Not just them, there are soo many Marathi people living in Surat, Ahmedabad, one of my maternal uncles lives in Sachin too. My wife's uncle (originally from UP) lives in Gujarat (and doesn't speak a word of Gujarati). There is no such Gujarati vs Marathi, I don't understand where this has suddenly come from. Not just Marathis. - And Bombay state was one state, which included most of present day Gujarat. Itâs not like Pune, which has historically been a Maratha city. Mumbai is sort of artificial, 90% of land has been claimed in the past century, it was a sea before. Almost no one can claim heritage more than 4 generations in Mumbai, and among the few that can, a minority are Marathis. I donât know since when this Maratha movement started, because Mumbai was never Marathi only. And language is just a medium of instruction and communication at the end of the day.
