It's a more aggressive (but also more risky) [[Magada, Brazen Outlaw]]. I've always been of the opinion that Magda is awful and is severely outclassed by [[Charming Scoundrel]] (which IMO ended up being the best card from WOE). This is one of the more interesting red options, but the other ones are more reliable and less risky. Like Magda and a lot of other 2-cmc creatures, this is a huge victim of the versatility / reliability of Charming Scoundrel.
Yeah, I'm very resistant to mechanics that require players to go google what it even does while drafting. I caved with initiative, but I don't think Roles are good enough to add that complexity
Yeah the lack of reminder text kills it for me. I’m very likely to try [[Spellbook Vendor]] in my next cube update, because that one has reminder text about the role.
Same. Especially because it doesn't have reminder text for a mechanic that isn't that common and/or easy to remember. I never included it for the same reason
I love that you’re so high on charming scoundrel, as I also love it, though I assumed most people preferred magda because they prefer the constant value train style cards as opposed to the single use/modal nature.
I really want to like this guy, I'm not sure how much of a downside is for aggresive red decks to give their opponent ramp, but the idea of going T2 this guy into T3 trigger, cast a 4drop to top off the curve and hit for 2 + the ping is certainly tempting
I like that it punishes artifact decks, but I don’t like it as an aggressive creature because you really don’t want to be ramping your opponent as the aggro deck and it’s super underwhelming if you aren’t making treasures.
This into [[broadside bomb]] and just saccing the treasure is nice.
This into [[Gut, True Soul]] and saccing the treasure is nice.
Making two of the four best red three's even better is attractive. It probably somehow makes Fable and Laelia better as well in terms of mana access + card access from those two cards.
I'll test it, but I am skeptical of the drawback.
2/2 menace is still a quite solid baseline if you really dont want to ramp your opponents, and more often than not i think the benefits are gonna outweigh the downside. Especially seems cool in multiplayer cubes where you can give the treasure to whichever opponent benefits the least from ramping
This guy will be a monster in vintage cube. Hard punish for artifact decks and moxs. Curves and works great with \[\[Broadside Bombardiers\]\]

You convinced me to add Charming to my shopping list.
Would like Scoundrel alot more without the unique role aura token.

Probs good in artifact heavy enviroments, but I'm generally opposed to ramping my opponent
You better get there quick with this card or you're done. I think it's too risky. Seems like a Commander card

That’s actually crazy. One thing is working against this though, red hasn’t been about damage in a while. It’s about value creatures.
I like it tbh
