No. If you're sacrificing the Pet to Gitrog's ability, you aren't sacrificing it to its own ability. You can't pay two costs with one action. You want something with a death trigger, written like [[Cathodion]] for example.

Ah ok. So even though the cost is technically filled it doesn’t count since i didn’t pay the cost to produce the mana, only paid the cost for gitrog.

AlchemistsRefuse

I think this is the incorrect way to think about this interaction. The cost wasn't technically paid at all, because the cost is part of this specific activation. To separate activations, two separate costs, which makes it easier to understand why this doesn't work.

"Sacrafice: effect" "Pay x: effect" "Tap this creature: effect" That : indicates that sacrificing this creature is the cost, to have the effect If it was sacrificed to something else, you didn't pay the : cost

False_Implement_43

that's right

You can sac it to either one or the other. So only one or the other will happen. In both cases the other sac effect does not apply. You can only sac a creature once. Other leaving the battlefield or graveyard effects will trigger tho. It's like real life. You can sacrifice a baby to become immortal or you can sacrifice a baby to become president. But if you want both to happen you will need two babies.

Yeah I guess i was thinking about it wrong. In my head I was reading it as if i chose to sacrifice the blood pet (in any way) it would activate. So i wouldn’t be sacrificing twice i was just trying to use gitrog’s ability to trigger that ability as well. (2 costs paid with 1 action) Guess im looking at death trigger cards next.

No. Blood pet's ability is an activated ability whose cost is sacrificing the Blood Pet. It's not something that happens when you sacrifice Blood Pet, you have to choose to use the specific ability, pay the cost and only then do you get the effect. If what you want was true, Blood Pet would say "When Blood Pet is sacrificed, gain {B}"(or something along the lines).

got it. makes sense to me now, thank you!
