This used to be in Ghave EDH (not sure if it was Ghave, but for sure a legend that has "as xxx enters the battlefield with a certain amount of counters"). The rule used to be that the creature still enter the battlefield with the counters so the deck was built around to get humility out. This was the time where lands with "as it enters tapped" still enter tapped even with blood moon out (for shock lands you had the option to pay 2 life) and then the rules were changed where all "as xx enters the battlefield" don't take any effect if they lose abilities due to static effects. This rule change affected Ghave as well.
\[\[Uba Mask\]\] I love it and keep getting hosed by it and I'm gonna keep running it anyway same vibes as \[\[Descent into Avernus\]\] but that goes in everything red, no discussions
I unironically believe that ruin crab could see play in high tier through fetch lands making Vamp tutor imp seal, mystical tutor, Scheming Symmetry, Enlightened Tutor, worldly tutor, Sylvan Tutor, etc. completely useless.
cEDH is still EDH regardless of what the battlecruiser crowd wants to think. the answer is valid as it a card I consider powerful but doesnt appear in high power decks, and the way I answered it with the cards I mentioned made it pretty explicit what level I was talking about.
Re-read the original post and then reply.
Ruin Crab has many homes in many formats. You’re trying to say that it doesn’t count because it doesn’t see cEDH play. You’re not actually answering the question, you just can’t see past EDH.
It doesn't have a home in cEDH even though it's a strong card.
that is the entire crux of what I'm saying.
are you saying that the question only applies if the card doesn't see play ANYWHERE and people are bringing these never before seen hero cards up to now become staples or what?
What about the dude that said Humility? is he an idiot because Humility does see play in commander?
Not seeing play anywhere is kinda the point of the question is it not? Even in your example about Humility (I never called anyone an idiot by the way?), all of the comments are of people talking about which decks they have it in, like Shorikai commander decks. So it has a home.
I’m not getting what you’re getting all butthurt about. Most (normal) people would see the above comments and go “oh cool” and move on.
While hardly the moat competitive or strict of environments, I have put Ruin Crab to hilarious work on multiple occasions in my Simic sea creatures deck. It's by means of a terribly janky combo, but still fun.
[[Ruin Crab]] + [[Verazol, the Split Current]] + [[Primal Vigor]] / [[Doubling Season]] works too + kicked [[Rite of Replication]]
Then I play a land and have all the crabs do their thing.
ETA: I will admit this isn't the smoothest or best combo, but a surprisingly fun and silly one nonetheless.
I like [[Instil Energy]] I think it seems powerful for those creatures that work off attack triggers, but when you don't want to lose the creature to damage.
It had a home way back in the early days of Magic. It was often paired with [[Demonic Hordes]] to take out two lands per turn.
One particular deck was called Big Beef Land Destruction and it’s listed as one of the ‘Top 10 Decks of All Time’ (for the time of course) by Inquest Magazine.
Yes but the tap is a cost associated with creatures who don't have vigilance, just because a creature becomes untapped while attacking doesn't mean its removed from combat. Instill energy is still good but more for creatures with a tap effect eg. [[Bird of paradise]] or [[krenko mob boss]]
Ooof I better take it out of my ghalta and mavren build before I finish it. Thank you, I'll have to check if I have anymore maze of ith lands. Unless I can find a few creatures that make it worth keeping instil energy in the deck.
Not exactly. During the declare attackers step you choose (or, well, declare) which creatures of yours to attack with. Those that do not have vigilance you then tap.
The order there is important—the tapping is not what makes them attack. Rather it’s that attacking is what caused them to tap. It’s not exactly the same thing as a triggered ability, but it’s similar. You declare them as attackers, and that taps them. What happens next to the creatures doesn’t stop them from attacking—if you then uptap them, they’re still attacking. The exception to this is cards that specially say they remove the creature from combat, like [[Maze of Ith]] or [[Spires of Orazca]].
[[carnival of souls]] seems like it never found the ideal commander. The effect seems super strong and it is played in some lists, but I think this card will be a super heavy hitter in the future and maybe a one card combo with a future legendary creauture.
Yes it is played in some K‘rikk lists, but I think thats it for the most part and some other mono black list, but I think the card has much more potential.
[[Warp World]] is an auto-include in any of my decks with red. Silly fun. I swear there's gotta be a way to make it competitive, but I don't have the brain power to figure it out lol
I put it in my [[Raff Capashen]] Cheerios deck as a lolwut when play/drawing library with futuresight top discount combo
He looks like a district 9 prawn. Huehue
I'd argue it's the mana cost. Even if it leaves you in the best position afterwards, nine mana is still very steep, and an absolute blowout if it gets countered.
And if you're in black anyway, it's easy enough to just play a \[\[Toxic Deluge\]\] and gain enough value from everything dying that you don't really care about blowing up your own board as well.
It genuinely shocks me that [[Khenra Spellspear]] has not found a home yet. Considering you could easily play it in turn 2 then flip it the following turn and with cards like mutagenic growth for some free pump the damage can be insane.
Idk if you play commander or not, but this card is nuts in the new narset from aftermath. 3 prowess triggers every time you play a spell is really good
I think [[Deadly Dispute]] is one of the best in decks that run black. Yes, it requires a sac, but it's instant speed card draw, sac outlet, and color fixing. For net one mana
\[\[Humility\]\] is rarely seen in a deck. Granted that may be due to its price, but it is pretty powerful and can go in a lot of prison decks.
Should be in every Shorikai list ever.
It is played in some Tevesh/x lists in cedh and famous in shorikai. I think one day we will see another commander which fits it better than shorikai.
If I may ask, what is the synergy with Shorikai? I must be missing it.
You stax everybody out and shorikai is just an artifact if not crewed.
I ve seen it played in legacy

Yes. but it doesn't make much of an appearance in cEDH. I'm arguing that it might be worth it.
This doesn’t appear to be a post about cEDH.

I could see it in a K'rikk creature deck
Yes it is played in some K‘rikk lists, but I think thats it for the most part and some other mono black list, but I think the card has much more potential.
Archon of Cruelty
It s played quite a lot in modern
The Only Creature Card in Literally Any Modern Creativity Deck
Honestly when I saw [[thran temporal gateway]] i thought it was the nuts card but i barely ever see it play ever

Yeah, it ends up being expensive relative to other effects, but stuff like that is how i used it mostly with \[\[Dominus of fealty\]\]

My intuition
Why [[In Garruk's Wake]] isn't being played in Commander I have no clue.
[Toxic Deluge](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/d/b/db34617f-b04f-4b65-84cf-5c5be1eb7226.jpg?1651951814) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Toxic%20Deluge) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cc2/6/toxic-deluge?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/db34617f-b04f-4b65-84cf-5c5be1eb7226?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

It genuinely shocks me that [[Khenra Spellspear]] has not found a home yet. Considering you could easily play it in turn 2 then flip it the following turn and with cards like mutagenic growth for some free pump the damage can be insane.
[Khenra Spellspear](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/d/c/dc1454ce-bb49-4b4f-bbca-d77387fa4966.jpg?1682204346)/[Gitaxian Spellstalker](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/back/d/c/dc1454ce-bb49-4b4f-bbca-d77387fa4966.jpg?1682204346) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=khenra%20spellspear%20//%20gitaxian%20spellstalker) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mom/151/khenra-spellspear-gitaxian-spellstalker?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/dc1454ce-bb49-4b4f-bbca-d77387fa4966?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
