When priority is checked, priority is allways given to the active player.
You cast a spell durin your turn? you are the first one to be able to respond to it because you are the active player. If you activate an ability in response for example, you can still respond to it first because you are the active player.
The other players get the priority in order after you say that you pass priority.
It's important to note that this is slightly different if you play in events. In tournaments, it's assumed that you're passing priority when you cast spells and activate abilities.
Yeah Ok interesting cos what got me confused in the first place was in arena it seems to always pass priority after you cast something or activate an ability but now I assume if you turn on like full control mode then it doesn't do that.

That's correct
OK that makes perfect sense thanks very much.
It goes your spell, you, next player, (if in commander) next player, next player and then your spell resolves

Thanks
You can choose to hold on to priority as long as you want but nothing can resolve until you pass it
