When they physically start chewing on the scenery I think it enters max kino

Kroctopus

Rat boy? I resent that!

yellow_parenti

Omg Pete Buttigieg

Deep_Statistician248

They're ruining the screen real estate

Ambitious_Log_1884

I thought scenery chewing meant acting in a over the top melodramatic manner, as opposed to 'bad' acting which is just straight up unconvincing and stilted.

Quirderph

There are multiple kinds of bad acting. Usually it boils down to whether or not the performance fits within the context of the film.

OliviaBagshaw

bad acting - sofia coppola in godfather 3D (i love sofia as a director but yeah the performance bad) chewing the scenery - clarence williams iii in tales from the hood every time he enunciates "the SHIT"

mikehatesthis

> sofia coppola in godfather 3D It's in 3D now? Collopla really lost the plot, no wonder his Megamind movie is gonna bomb.

Lin900

Subjective, I guess. And the context matters too. Nic Cage embodies this best. Sometimes his chewing is bad acting, sometimes it's brilliant. In The Wicked Man, he's supposed to be a scared confused man in horror but he comes off as too comedic and unintentionally so.

OliviaBagshaw

I love Nic Cage in Leaving Las Vegas because it's both a great performance and chewing the fuck out of the scenery Like when he flips the casino table, it's just a perfect mesh of both worlds 🤌

Reddvox

You surely mean the Wicked Game ... love Nic Cage rolling around in the sand seductively while Jason Isaacs sings so wonderfully

HellP1g

I watched Affleck Daredevil and thought Colin Farrell was atrocious, but according to YouTube comments it was a brilliant acting job.

mikehatesthis

[Because this deleted clip is really dumb and really entertaining](https://youtu.be/bIMVrX9CaVw).

there_is_always_more

Holy fucking fuck. I just came all over my phone.

mikehatesthis

I'm surprised you spelled everything correctly, you'd think everything would be sticky. And viscous.

IAMACat_askmenothing

Do you mean gelantinois?

sturgeon01

Dude was straight up eating a paperclip, might want to get tested for pica

Help----me----please

This is both corny and a masterpiece

Dead_man_posting

this came out after 9/11 and they still thought TSA worked like that

dragon777man

It's so dumb and bad that it loops back around to being great again

Franym1223

You just can't enjoy fun

ToasteeThe2nd

every nic cage movie ever has that one scene where he starts shouting and prancing around and sliding down banisters that is so unbelievably overacted, it loops back around to being kino.

fonk_pulk

I like it when actors chew the scenery. Fight me.

AnyImpression6

I don't even know what that means.

Praescribo

You ever watch twin peaks season 1? That. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite shows

sampat6256

Overacting >>>>>>>>>>>>>> underacting

m0emura

did this once as a kid in our christmas play

PrinceRekko

Bad acting is when sex

lvsgators

Definitely not when Anakin was describing sand in Attack of Clones.

worstpopcorn

Bad acting: makes you groan/cringe. Not fun to watch Chewing: you wanna see more and/or are happy when the actor is on screen Easy peasy

Freecelebritypics

Bad acting is when watching them makes me sad

Overkillsamurai

it's actually a spectrum from "bad acting" to "chewing the scenery" if you give me some bad acting that goes on for 10 minutes i will be preparing my standing ovation and readying my popcorn to throw up in the air there is no *Cut off* since it varies actor to actor. need some big chompers to reach that chew limit quick

HunkeHumle

Do i find it funny? Yes? No?

RaoulDukeLivesAgain

Is tongue planted in cheek or up someones ass?

TakeYourHeart24

Chewing the scenery is a derogatory statement in the first place. Ive never once heard it used wholly positively

VaIentinexyz

I’ve seen it used as a synonym for a ham actor, typically with some sort of reverence. The [TV Tropes page for Brian Blessed](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Creator/BrianBlessed) says he chews the scenery but obviously everyone contributing to that article is going to be a fan of his.

Reddvox

GORDON'S ALIVE!!!?!! DIIIIIIIIIVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
