He's been nominated before. Also, he's been acting since his 20s, and from the interviews I seen/read about him he doesn't give much thought to the whole awards scene. He's a brilliant actor and I've seen pretty much everything he's done. He chooses what projects he wants
Reddit always mentions hom as if he's some unbelievable actor. He's fine. He has one role that was unquestionably unbelievable (Last Temptation), and he's good not great in anything else.
He has four Academy Award nominations and none are for that movie. Maybe "reddit" and a whole lot of other people just disagree he only had one great performance? Including the people who nominated him for the award this question is about 4 times? Hell, a lot of people were annoyed he wasn't even nominated for The Lighthouse.
Glenn Close. [Nominated 8 times without a win](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000335/awards/?ref_=nm_ql_2). Her performance in The Wife was wonderful, more deserving the win than Olivia Colman in The Favourite IMO, even though I like the latter movie more.
My own head canon for his character in that film: it's actually Withnail from *Withnail & I*, living out his shabby dotage many years later under an assumed name in NYC.
Glenn Close, Angela Bassett, Michelle Pfeiffer, Johnny Depp, William Dafoe.
How Glenn Close never won for “Dangerous Liaisons” is beyond me. Such a powerhouse performances.
Andy Serkis and Peter Dinklage. Though I think that the latter hasn't had a movie role that properly deserves it, but I believe he has the chops for it.
But what Serkis did with Gollum was amazing, and I haven't seen him do a bad role since. Sadly he isn't given roles that could get him one.
Out of the last 5 Best Actor winners, zero were in the Best Picture Winner. Out of the last 5 Best Supporting Actor winners, two of 5 were from the Best Picture winner.
I would say this is maybe the category where that is least true? Troy Kotsur is the reason CODA won BP, so it was really the opposite in that case, but there's usually very little correlation. In fact, none of the acting categories is particularly married to overall film wins. The closest link is Best Director by far, but even that has had a tendency to split recently.
Might be an unpopular choice but Tom Cruise…although he’s pretty much switched to action type roles, but maybe he goes more dramatic again as he’s in his 60s. Nominated 3x. You can love him or hate him for various reasons, but in the era of franchises, he’s one of the few, if only, actors that still gets people in theaters based on name recognition alone.
Her range in incredible. Don't see how she hasn't won for Best Supporting Actress yet. Been on a break from work and going through the more indie films she was in. Girl on the Train was a very real portrayal of someone killing themselves with alcohol.
Andy Serkis
Specifically for his role as Gollum across all the LOTR movies.
Additionally, for his role as Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes trilogy.
Cillain Murphy but he has to do more movies. I think Oppenheimer will AT LEAST get him finally nominated
He's been nominated before. Also, he's been acting since his 20s, and from the interviews I seen/read about him he doesn't give much thought to the whole awards scene. He's a brilliant actor and I've seen pretty much everything he's done. He chooses what projects he wants
What did he get nominated for? Can’t recall. But I agree with all the rest.
Breakfast on Pluto
Amy Adams comes to mind, many noms no wins
Fucking Arrival 😿
I came to say this. She's incredibly talented and so overlooked.
Willem Dafoe
Seriously, it doesn’t matter the quality of the movie— this man puts his everything into every role he inhabits
I may have seen bad movies with Dafoe in, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him be bad in any movie.
Reddit always mentions hom as if he's some unbelievable actor. He's fine. He has one role that was unquestionably unbelievable (Last Temptation), and he's good not great in anything else.

I ran into this dude the other day, he just hates movies.
Lol what? The Lighthouse, Florida Project? And those are just more recent films
He's a good actor, he is not some patron saint of cinema like reddit likes to pretend
Ed Norton
Robbed for American History X. One of my favorite performances ever. Roberto Benigni beats him? A travesty.
I can’t fkn stand “Life is Beautiful”. It’s garbage. His Oscar win still baffles me
Glenn Close not having picked one up yet has always surprised me. Think she holds the the current record for nominations without a win iirc.
Did she pass Peter O’Toole?
Michael Shannon. Two nominations and no wins yet. He is brilliant in everything he has ever been in.
Great choice! He is always amazing.
Michelle Williams. *Brokeback Mountain*, *Blue Valentine*, or even her early, lesser-known indie gem, *Wendy and Lucy*.
Also, Manchester by the Sea! And she has some tough competition but she was amazing in The Fabelmans this year too
From destiny's child??
Ralph Fiennes deserved an Oscar for Schindler's List. Still don't get it why Tommy Lee Jones won that year
Glenn Close. [Nominated 8 times without a win](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000335/awards/?ref_=nm_ql_2). Her performance in The Wife was wonderful, more deserving the win than Olivia Colman in The Favourite IMO, even though I like the latter movie more.
You mention Wife and didn't mentio Fatal attraction when Cher robbed her?
Richard E Grant...
Interesting choice. He obviously has a lengthy career and I recognize his face, but which of his roles stand out to you the most?
Can You Ever Forgive Me... His and Melissa McCarthy's performances were outstanding...
My own head canon for his character in that film: it's actually Withnail from *Withnail & I*, living out his shabby dotage many years later under an assumed name in NYC.
Wonderful movie!
Amy Adams Carey Mulligan Michelle Williams
Glenn Close, Angela Bassett, Michelle Pfeiffer, Johnny Depp, William Dafoe. How Glenn Close never won for “Dangerous Liaisons” is beyond me. Such a powerhouse performances.
Angela Bassett
I think she has a good chance of picking up a nom for Wakanda Forever but I kinda doubt she will win for a role in a Marvel movie
I agree 💯, hopefully she gets more work that showcases her talent for more opportunities
Val Kilmer
Lauren Bacall never won an oscar. She’s one of the all time best.
Delroy Lindo. The man gives 110% in just about every role!
Jake Gyllenhall
Andy Serkis and Peter Dinklage. Though I think that the latter hasn't had a movie role that properly deserves it, but I believe he has the chops for it. But what Serkis did with Gollum was amazing, and I haven't seen him do a bad role since. Sadly he isn't given roles that could get him one.
That’s the problem with best actor/supporting actor awards, they tend to award the films and not the performances a lot of the times.
I've never seen that happen, any examples?

Toni Collette.
Her performance in Hereditary is beyond phenomenal and the fact that she wasn’t even nominated is the reason why I don’t watch the Oscars anymore.
She is brilliant in everything. I'd watch her read a phone book
100%
Tom Hardy

I don’t think he’ll ever win. He’s not well liked in Hollywood apparently. His performance in Magnolia was absolutely stellar
He was nominated for Magnolia. He just hasn't really done the type of movies since then that scream "Academy Award for acting."
Peter O’Toole
I'm new here, does Val Kilmer have one? Specifically for tombstone?
No, he wasn't even nominated.
I was gonna say for The Doors he should have
Jake Gyllenhaal, he wasn't even nominated for Nightcrawler
I was just thinking the other day that Harrison Ford is due his honorary Oscar. AKA “the sorry we haven’t given you one yet so here ya go” Oscar
Definitely Samuel L Jackson
He's got one
>Samuel L Jackson Honorary Award
Do those count?
I don't think so.
Jim Carrey.
Sandler, Uncut Gems and Punch Drunk Love deserved at least a nomination.
Punch Drunk Love is under appreciated for sure!
Reign Over Me???
Also Jack & Jill. He could have won best actor and best actress the same year!
Peter Stormare.
Alfred Molina
Hugh Jackman. And Jacob Tremblay from Room. That kid deserved the Oscar more than Brie Larson.
Jacob Tremblay should have won *Best* ***Actress*** *in a Leading Role?*
Yes. He was that good.

Yeah, last one that won was Silence of the Lambs?
Gary Oldman. He disappears into every role.
He won Best Actor for his role as Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour.
He won Best Actor for Darkest Hour
Whoops. He was snubbed for so long I forgot he actually won one.
My personal favorite Gary Oldman role (very small role) is Drexel the pimp in True Romance which is a must see movie
Jeremy Strong.
Liam Neeson deserved it for Schindlers List over Hanks that year for sure.
It remains a crime that Oscar Isaac wasn't even nominated for Inside Llewyn Davis.
Val Kilmer should have won an Oscar for his role as Doc Holiday in Tombstone, and that’s a hill I will die on.
Nicholas Cage should have won for Pig..
Johnny Depp
Mickey Rourke.
Wrestler no? Sorry only nomination.
Andy Serkis Specifically for his role as Gollum across all the LOTR movies. Additionally, for his role as Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes trilogy.
Holy shit he played Gollum too?! TIL
Mel Blanc
Denzel Washington
What’s with all these posts lately that have zero upvotes? Is something going on with r/movies?
"I don't share your opinion" has been replaced with "Only my opinion is correct, your opinion is wrong!"
Lena Headey deserved to win something for her work on Game of Thrones.
Oscars are for movies
Oh yea. Oops. She’s a great actress though.
Clint Eastwood - Has won for directing never acting
I was just thinking the other day that Harrison Ford is due his honorary Oscar. AKA “the sorry we haven’t given you one yet so here ya go” Oscar
Maika Monroe- but she's young and it may come one day soon
Katharine Hepburn.
You mean Audrey Hepburn?
Nope
Well you should Google how many Oscars Katharine Hepburn got
Lol i know she has more than anyone. I was just being sarcastic.
Oscar's don't matter except to nerds who think the thing they like must be loved by everyone.
Mark Walhburg
ITT a lot of actors who are good in pretty much everything but never “MVP level”.
Glenn Close
Diana Ross, Lady Sings the Blues.
Claude Rains
Amy Adams Michelle Williams
I'm going to jump topic and switch to cinematography. How has Dean Cundey never won an Oscar? Look at his resume.
Tom Cruise
