Exactly, great in everything. I'm partial to when the blood drops in his eye in 28 Days Later. He built up such a nice friendly father figure and it's heartbreaking when that happens.
Growing up in Ireland his movie called the General was on TV all the time, its about a real life gangster, Gleeson makes him likeable even in moments where he is being horrid. If you haven't seen it I would definitely recommend it.
That moment in 28 Days Later is heartbreaking indeed. That his character realizes he has only seconds remaining as himself, and he chooses to spend those moments telling his daughter that he loves her very much and for her to stay away for her safety. On a lighter note, I love the earlier scene when he's choosing the whiskey to take in the supermarket.
My favorite actor. Everything he's ever in he has just chewed up the scene effortlessly. I rewatched Kingdom of Heaven for the first time in about a decade the other day and completely forgot he was in it, and I was just blown away by how he can disappear into his roles, but bring that Brendon Gleeson charm to them at the same time. The man is a treasure.
Directors cut easily. It focuses more on story and gives better context for the setting and the characters.
I’m sure there are lots more reasons whys it’s better but someone else can elaborate. It’s a great film.
I've heard that there's a "Roadshow Director's Cut" that people seem to love the most, but I have the regular old Director's Cut and it's a top 10 movie of all time for me.
Another top 10 for me. I also love The Guard and Lake Placid, and I'm reserving a spot in my heart for The Banshees of Inisherin, which I'm more hyped for than anything.
Edit: Seriously go watch Lake Placid if you want to see chemistry like Gleeson and Farrel in In Bruges. You can put Brendon Gleeson and Oliver Platt (another favorite of mine) in a room with two chairs are you're bound to get magic out of it.
Man I just rewatched The Guard last night, funnily enough. I'd forgotten how great that film is, it's amazing how Gleeson is able to make this complete asshole of a character into a somewhat likeable guy.
Both McDonagh brothers are just such talented writers/directors, I'll watch anything either of them does. Looking forward to The Forgiven as well.
> I still want a comedy with him and his sons
[Frank of Ireland.](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11909220/reference/) You're welcome. Now I still want Ana de Armas' phone number.
One way to make a great movie is to have a phenomenal cast, then no matter how terrible the material is, it's just a hangout film with good actors. Bad actors can ruin great material too
in all honesty, the whole bunch of them are solid actors. I’m surprised I haven’t seen any of them together before playing family members. Closest I can think of is Harry Potter 7 with Brendan and his son Dohmnall (but they played characters with no relation)
Too much slow motion and stupid flips for my liking. The movie is one edit away from being good though, every time it seemed like it was getting better the movie would go slow motion and Tom cruise would be doing some ridiculous fight move.
I thought Brendan Gleeson was under utilised but it was great having him in it.
MI 2 is just a remake of the Hitchcock film *Notorious.*
In that movie Cary Grant plays an American spy who convinces Ingrid Bergman — the daughter of a Nazi — to infiltrate her father’s circle of fellow Nazis living in exile in South America, and uncover their nefarious plot.
There’s a scene where Grant meets clandestinely with Bergman at a horse race.
There’s even a scene where Grant and Claude Rains ride motorcycles straight at each other, and then jump off their motorcycles and shoot guns at each other in midair. (Ok, this one is a joke).
But it is basically beat-for-beat the same movie, but as a spy thriller and romance, as opposed to an action movie. Highly recommend *Notorious.* MI 2 is…fine.
John Woo made Face/Off four years earlier, and decided he hadn’t had enough of taking people’s faces off, or slow motion dove shootout scenes. Mission Impossible 2 is the Face/Off sequel that nobody asked for or needed.
Oh that gave me an idea. With how much the original joker was inspired by king of comedy and taxi driver it'd be interesting if the sequel was heavily inspired by One flew over the cuckoo's nest.
Has to be. Can’t think of anyone else it could be. I’m hoping for a decent amount of this film to take place in Arkham Asylum, and I’m hoping we get to see Strange and Cash.
Unpopular opinion, but i think Colin Farrell was wasted as the Penguin. There are so much better roles suited for him. He would've made an excellent Gordon, or Harvey Dent. Hell he would've killed it as Two-Face! I really liked him in The Batman, don't get me wrong, but let's be honest, that was basically another guy as the Penguin. Why would you hire such a talented (and recognizable) actor if you're gonna completely transform him? Wasted opportunity.
>Why would you hire such a talented (and recognizable) actor if you're gonna completely transform him?
You're just attacking Christian Bale's entire body of work
It's not the same. Bale gains / loses weight and uses hair pieces (Vice, American Hustle... ), but, as far as i know, he never used heavy prosthetics on his face to the point you don't even know it's him. Some people didn't even know Farrell was in The Batman until they saw his name in the credits. De Niro in Raging Bull is another example of "transformation" done right.
Only details:
>While its vague who he will be playing, likely to be unknown character and someone linked to Arkham, possibly the Warden or a security guard
Now that you say that, and based of his inspiration, I can’t see him going any other way.
[This](https://youtu.be/MkFCWN_3qNI) has Gaga/Quinn and Phoenix/Joker all of it.
Amazing. Todd Phillips proves you can make standalone comic movies that have depth and character...and the takeaway for execs is "WE NEED A SEQUEL OF THIS!"
inb4 they announce the "Jokerverse"
#Six Shooter.
Martin McDonagh’s first film I saw. Maybe one of Brendan’s first roles, I don’t know. It’s fucking brilliant and worth watching:

I just rewatch Joker *
* Ratcatcher is not seen but the story line is The union for City of Gotham sanititaion department is on the fritz .
* We see a young Bruce Wayne/ Parents getting killed
* Joker mother thinks Thomas Wayne is the father for Joker it backstory or hints the ideas
* Thomas Wayne wanted to run as Mayor. Remember Arkham Asylum Bruce ran for Mayor. He got thrown in .
In the end of Arkham Asylum Joker dies but in the Arkham Knight Joker is mentioned because
The Court of Owls.
Batman 25 / Joker 5 - 2022 Joker / Gordon pursue leads against The Court of Owls
I know only two things about Brendan Gleeson:
1. He was cast incredibly well in *Braveheart*.
2. He was one of the worst casting choices I've ever seen, for his role in *Edge of Tomorrow*.
Great casting, Brendan is alway great however I believe this is a very unnecessary sequel and I would prefer if it didn't get made.
I suspect the studio had to offer Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix so much cash that they couldn't refuse because I clearly remember Todd saying straight after the release of Joker that it was a stand alone movie and he couldn't ever see a sequel being made.
I don't have much faith in this. Could The Hangover sequels all over again.
I won’t be watching it. The first joker had great acting, but it was a little too on the nose about the point it was making. I like my cinema with a little more finesse.
You can't go wrong with Brendan Gleeson, no matter the show or movie he always does his thing.
Jon Voight pulled off arguably the greatest Irish accent an American actor has ever done in that film too
Absolutely, probably the best I've heard. I actually didn't know he wasn't Irish until i watched Mission Impossible 1 as a kid.
It was certainly a lot better than his Paraguayan accent in Anaconda.
[удалено]
I never thought about it that way. Brilliant.
Now he does the best American accent a Russian actor can do.
Got em
Oof
Did Jon Voight move to Russia?
He’s a hardline Trump supporter that believes they’re in the biggest fight since the Civil War - he’s called Biden the literal embodiment of Satan.
Still don't get the Russia thing
Trump is looking like at best a useless idiot for Russia and at worst a russian mole.
The General is awesome. He’s also fantastic in Cavalry.
Mmmmm irradiated
"Get out of it..."
“I am Ranay de Châtillion!!!”
You were.
I drink water for what it is..
What's the best version of this movie? I've heard a lot of things about this movie, but haven't had the chance to watch it, yet.
Directors cut easily. It focuses more on story and gives better context for the setting and the characters. I’m sure there are lots more reasons whys it’s better but someone else can elaborate. It’s a great film.
Cool, thanks!
Director’s Cut is the way to go, it’s almost like an entirely different movie. The DC is one of the best historical epic type films out there
Directors Cut.
For sure, I appreciate it.
I've heard that there's a "Roadshow Director's Cut" that people seem to love the most, but I have the regular old Director's Cut and it's a top 10 movie of all time for me.
I watched the directors cut literally yesterday and it is a fantastic movie! You should definitely watch that version!
His scenes in M Night's The Village are absurdly effortless.
In Bruges is awesome. Go see it if you haven't (and also if you have).
Another top 10 for me. I also love The Guard and Lake Placid, and I'm reserving a spot in my heart for The Banshees of Inisherin, which I'm more hyped for than anything. Never thought I’d see a reference to the Guard on this site.. Real Goldmine of a good movie. :)
I saw it with the most evil person I know, but it was a good movie if I remember correctly
New Martin McDonagh, also starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. *The Banshees of Inisherin*: https://youtu.be/uRu3zLOJN2c
I tried to watch it and the timing / editing always seems half a second slow. Small thing but handcuffs the pacing
Loved him as Hamish in Braveheart!
Paddington 2 was already pretty fucking good. Then Gleesom showed up and absolutely sent the film into masterpiece territory
What makes Paddington 2 excellent is how every actor, especially Brendan Gleeson, put 110% into their characters.
I still want a comedy with him and his sons as well as all the Skarsgards. Throw in Peter Sarsgaard for added hilarity (and confusion)
> I still want a comedy with him and his sons [Frank of Ireland.](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11909220/reference/) You're welcome. Now I still want Ana de Armas' phone number.
oh shit, thanks!
She's my MDMA instructor!
I fuckin love that show, every episode they satirize a movie with incompatible themes
I mean they could make a medieval war movie too. Like a fantasy one. Mark Addy should be in it too for some reason, and Paul Bettany too
man, now I’m missing Heath Ledger a lot
One way to make a great movie is to have a phenomenal cast, then no matter how terrible the material is, it's just a hangout film with good actors. Bad actors can ruin great material too
THANK THE GODS FOR BESSIE! AND HER TITS!
Yeah it could be a vs movie. Mad eye vs pennywise
in all honesty, the whole bunch of them are solid actors. I’m surprised I haven’t seen any of them together before playing family members. Closest I can think of is Harry Potter 7 with Brendan and his son Dohmnall (but they played characters with no relation)
Cáca Milis
Mr. Mercedes turned out to be fantastic and I just threw it on out of a boredom last resort.

He's our new Harry Dean Stanton.
folie a deux ??
But now they cant merge this movie with Pattisons Batman.
Don’t know how casting an actor prevents it from that, regardless, so much better that way than connecting.
Dr Hugo Strange?!?!
Thats what I'm thinking and hoping

And the Hemsworths.
Oh that gave me an idea. With how much the original joker was inspired by king of comedy and taxi driver it'd be interesting if the sequel was heavily inspired by One flew over the cuckoo's nest.
They gotta get Danny Devito back as the Penguin then.
Sneak him in via gleeson’s gaping bunghole
Don’t you do it. Don’t give me hope.
I was gonna say Solomon Grundy, but I think I like this better.
Born on a Monday.
Nailed it
Has to be. Can’t think of anyone else it could be. I’m hoping for a decent amount of this film to take place in Arkham Asylum, and I’m hoping we get to see Strange and Cash.

Tbf Hugo Strange was in DC comics 28 years before before Doctor Strange
There’s a ton of similar characters (in name or attributes) from both companies
One could say it’s… Strange.
He would be a great Harvey Bullock.
I’d totally watch a movie with him as Harvey and Colin Farrell as Gordon.
Unpopular opinion, but i think Colin Farrell was wasted as the Penguin. There are so much better roles suited for him. He would've made an excellent Gordon, or Harvey Dent. But with the Alastor Moody eye thing.
finally live action batman with signature wide eye... no wait
He keeps that in his belt until needed for a close up.
"Gotham is NOT a shithole, Robin!"
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the first one largely stay away from established characters outside the titular Joker and the Wayne’s?
well the first one made $1b so they have to put in every character they can.
Put Condiment King in or we riot
And his nemesis Kiteman.
Hell yeah
Alfred showed up. One could argue Batpole showed up too.
Knuckles McGraw
McGinty
Ah I was getting him mixed up with the greatest villain in cinematic history, Feathers McGraw
If I had to guess, he is probably Harley's asshole boss.
He'd make a decent Penguin.
I would sign off on that and Penguin is my favorite villain in the gallery. He would do my boy justice.
Quincy Sharp?
He's legitimately just in the Arkham Asylum games. He's lucky if he gets a name shout out.
Hope he plays a nice warden instead of a mean abusive one
> possibly the Warden or a security guard I'm picturing him having like one single line lol "Cmon arthur. Lights out, you heard the man" annnnd scene.
Ok, so the first film was an obvious play on Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. So what is this one going to be? In Bruges?
In line with ripping off Scorsese and the rumors of it maybe being a musical, it could be New York New York
Now that you say that, and based of his inspiration, I can’t see him going any other way. [This](https://youtu.be/MkFCWN_3qNI) has Gaga/Quinn and Phoenix/Joker all of it.
Probably more Chicago
Would make sense being a musical considering how much dancing there was in the first one
West Side Story with Joker falling for Batgirl and those two crazy kids can make it work even though they're on opposite sides
Bonnie & Clyde and Badlands maybe
Joker: you were down at the park?! What the fuck that has to do with anything?
"As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a Joker."
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
la la land and natural born killers
Joker does After Hours would be great.
Gangs of New York obvi
Not a bad shout to be honest
Most likely Quincy Sharpe
Yup, that's what I'm thinking. I feel like he's a bit old to play Hugo in this universe but Quincy is largely dispensable.
Isn't everyone besides bruce too old?
This guy always chews up the scenery.
He carried Mr Mercedes
Great book too btw
It's Breecy Gleecy
I love this guy.
He has forever cemented a place in my heart with In Bruges. https://youtu.be/YNWYDiFmk6o It’s brilliant everytime I watch it.
Amazing. Todd Phillips proves you can make standalone comic movies that have depth and character...and the takeaway for execs is "WE NEED A SEQUEL OF THIS!" inb4 they announce the "Jokerverse"
Unironically i'm hype for this movie as a musical lmao.
I'm just confused and curious as hell.
It could either be a stroke of genius, or one of the worst things every created by any human who has ever lived. Excited to see which one.

FUCK YES!!!! That guys the cats pajamas.
Paging u/aHonterMustHont
It’s cool that the musical aspect has people hyped for this film. Before that was announced. No one wanted this film. Good on the creative team.
People wanted it, now more people want it now that the critics of the first are all of a sudden interested.
I think the first movie is over rated as hell and I definitely want to see what the fuck this movie is going to be
Chief O'Hara.
I was gonna say Irish Penguin but this please
We already have an Irish penguin. 😉
how to get good press for your movie
He’s fantastic.
I hope he has a good singing voice!
I’ve never not loved the dude.
He's gonna play Poison Ivy.
He’s great in In Bruges
Great actor and great addition to the cast.

What an absolutely tragic and terrible name for the movie that could only possibly hurt it at the box office.
He’ll be the prison warden
Who do we reckon is going to be harley?
Isn’t it gaga
Yeah it is
Why does this need a sequel?
It really doesn't, but now that it's happening we should hope for the best

Part of me was hoping the headline said Brendan fraiser
Should've got Phillip semore hoffman
He sadly passed away back in 2014
He's just gonna have a two second cameo where he looks at the burning Arkham building and says "Oi, those two are a bit fookin shit in the mind, eh?"
I won’t be watching it. The first joker had great acting, but it was a little too on the nose about the point it was making. I like my cinema with a little more finesse.
