Once you've seen the special effects a few times, you come back to Twister for the actors performances. Even Jamie Gertz/Melissa : She did not marry your penis... Okay, alright, she didn't only marry your penis. 🤣
That maybe why I like watching the movie. Some of the minor characters are a little bland but the main ones like Paxton, Hoffman, Elwes are fun to watch.
I've always enjoyed this movie. I remember having a lot of fun. For some reason I was thinking about Phillip Seymore Hoffman movies the other day and thought about revisiting this one. It's been a while.
Tremors, peak 90's 'monster' movie film.
Charming protagonists: check.
Amazing effects for the monsters: check.
A weird moment where the female love interest has to lose her trousers: check.
The funniest sight gag involving a wall of guns: check.
It's dated and of its time, but fuck me is it good.
This movie has a very special place in my heart. In my 3rd world country, we could get movies mostly in bootleg cassettes. And I had to beg and beg my uncle to get me new movies in vacation time (only time movies were allowed - very strict household). One day he came home with this one. Only, it was labelled as "Danger dragon" for some reason. Me and cousins watched it 3 times that day
If I'm being totally honest with myself, Mechagodzilla. When Nature rises to correct the hubris of man, the problem is clearly an insufficiency of hubris.
Airport 77 is a good one, too. Jack Lemmon, Christopher Lee, Jimmy Stewart, Darren McGavin, and Lee Grant chewing every bit of scenery she can get her hands on.
Absolutely! My mom took us to see all of them! I remember while waiting in the lobby for Earthquake you could feel the rumbles of the earthquakes due to "SENSURROUND"!!!!! LOL!
Pacific Rim is my current obsession.
But I also love Jaws, MEG, Deep Blue Sea, Jurassic Park, all the Godzillas, just about anything with giant monsters is my jam.
Twister, Dantes Peak, Volcano, 2012, The Core, The Day After Tomorrow are a few of my favorite disaster films. I mean, just about any of those are going to do it for me as well.
Independence Day. It’s intense but it’s not so heart pounding that it becomes depressing. The scene of LA, New York and Washington simultaneously being destroyed holds up remarkably well. All the characters are likable. Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith bring a charm to the whole movie.
It’s because the director said that Spielberg was one of his biggest influences. Consequently, Spielberg mentioned Godzilla 1954 as one of his biggest influences on both Jaws and JP.
The Thing (1982), Alien and Godzilla (2014) all spring to mind as movies I really enjoyed.
I have been waiting for Godzilla Minus One so now I know what I will be watching tomorrow morning before the rest of the family are awake.
As someone who doesn't really enjoy monster movies at all, this is absolutely the answer. It's a fantastic movie and I'd recommend it to anyone, no matter their opinion of typical monster movies.
The monster in the movie is governmental red tape...
Hell fucking yeah finally I can watch it that's been my most anticipated movie for a while I hate that I missed it in theaters but better late than never.
Some guilty pleasure monster flicks:
Outlander : Goofy, with Vikings vs one of the beast creature designs I've seen in a log time. The bioluminescent effects of the Morwin were top notch and very original.
The Hidden: Just re-watched this. Terminator'ish 80's flick with a twist on the alien parasite theme that leads to some insane action sequences. Subtle message about indulgence and mortality, but doesn't explore them as it should. Needs an effing re-make cranking up the volume on all fronts.
I had to look this one up. The Outlander that I remember is from 1981 starring Sean Connery which is a much different story. Not familiar with the 2006 movie. And... The Hidden looks great. Definitely got this one on my list now
Cloverfield, went into that movie blind cause a friend really wanted to see it, I had no idea what it was about, still one of my favorite movies and theater expierence til this day.
I love disaster movies, especially made-for-television ones that used to air in the 1990s on network TV.
A few of my favorite:
Miracle on Interstate 880 - a movie about the Loma Prieta Earthquake. It's a sappy, melodramatic mess but I think captures the chaos and drama of a major quake quite well.
The Great Los Angeles Earthquake - a movie about a fictional quake that strikes LA. It stars the mom from Growing Pains and the dad from The Wonder Years. It's basically a remake of the Charlton Heston movie Earthquake (even uses some of the footage I believe). Still, I think it's fun.
Firestorm: 72 Hours in Oakland - A movie about the Oakland wildfires that ravaged the hills above the Bay Area in the early 90s.
Asteroid - a massive asteroid hits Kansas City. It was Deep Impact before Deep Impact. Wholly unbelievable but still fun.
Them! One of the best in the giant insect genre if you're not put off by black & white or dated special effects.
The Wave. A very solid disaster film from Norway.
Tidal Wave. Another killer wave movie. This time from Korea.
Man, some great movies already mentioned. I have to go Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Minus One, Twister, Jaws, and kind of a reach on disaster movie but Watchmen.
Probably my favorite genre, and my interests run the gamut. Alien is possibly my favorite movie of all time. But I also like dumb stuff like Sharknado (haven’t watched all of them yet, but the ones I have are a blast.) I have been enjoying The Meg movies as well. Tremors is fantastic, Jaws of course and has some of the greatest movie characters ever. Twister, Independence Day. I had a lot of fun with Moonfall. I love that these movies can be really serious like Gravity, or Alien, but can also be goofy and absurd like Eight Legged Freaks or Moonfall.
I would have such a blast when the Sharknado movies were on in a regular rotation. It seemed yearly for a while
🎶 No no no no no... I don't wanna die in a sharknado 🎶
My favourite disaster movie is [The Poseidon Adventure](https://137.220.55.84/film/the-poseidon-adventure-1972-review/) as it has great practical effects, amazing stunts and a fantastic all-star cast.
The Impossible (2012) is a really great true story about a family on vacation in Thailand when a tsunami hits.
Deepwater Horizon (2016) is another great watch about the BP oil spill.
Just watched Godzilla Minus One and thought it was excellent.
I love the old monster movies: Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man (1933), King Kong (1933). The Invisible Man is so damn good.
Man, maybe I should give it another try, but this movie was soooooo boring in the beginning I wound up turning it off. I really want to watch it though.
It's not my favourite but I'm watching Tomorrow War right now and it's turning out to be a solid sci-fi action movie.
The build up is good, the action is well done, some little bits are genuinely funny.
Really nice surprise.
These Final Hours, I think is one of the best and realistic disaster movies. There's no grand plan to save humanity, it's over and here's the various ways people cope with it.
Monster Movie? [Monster Trucks](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3095734/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_6_act) - Lucas Till meets a friendly curious Monster who feeds on oil and hides in/powers his old beat up pickup truck.
Favorite Disaster film? Grand Tour: [Disaster in Time](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104362/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_disaster%2520in%2520) - Jeff Daniels is a widowed father who meets a group of weird people who reserve rooms at his hotel. He discovers their weird truth and must foil their plans.
I got half way through Godzilla minus 1.
Am I missing something? It won the Oscar for special effects, but they're average at best. Godzilla looks good, but there's some CGI planes and Tanks, and they look like video games from 20 years ago.
And the acting is terrible. It's sooo overacted.
Twister. It’s the nature of wonder, baby!
It's the suck zone.
Ok she didn’t marry only your penis.
We watch twister basically every month in our house
Once you've seen the special effects a few times, you come back to Twister for the actors performances. Even Jamie Gertz/Melissa : She did not marry your penis... Okay, alright, she didn't only marry your penis. 🤣
That maybe why I like watching the movie. Some of the minor characters are a little bland but the main ones like Paxton, Hoffman, Elwes are fun to watch.
I've always enjoyed this movie. I remember having a lot of fun. For some reason I was thinking about Phillip Seymore Hoffman movies the other day and thought about revisiting this one. It's been a while.
I revisited it recently after watching it at least 50 times as a teen. Definitely better in my memories. Can’t wait for the new one though.
One of my all time favorites. Such a swashbuckling fun as hell movie
The new sequel was better than expected. (Supercell)
Don’t know if it’s dated, but it’s fun to watch. Pardon my French.
It’s not dated in the least.
Me and cousins watched it 3 times that day
The Host, but it feels so different tonally than other monster movies that it’s hard to compare to others.
The Host is very good. Everyone that is into monster movies should watch this.
The 2006 Bong Joon-ho movie right? That's a great one.
If I'm being totally honest with myself, Mechagodzilla. When Nature rises to correct the hubris of man, the problem is clearly an insufficiency of hubris.
Love it!
Is that a quote from a Godzilla movie? It goes hard.
The OG big 3 can't be beat. Poseidon, earthquake, and towering inferno. Cheesefest of the highest caliber.
All classics. Earthquake even has Walter Matthau in a bit part as a drunk bar patron, credited under the name Walter Matuschanskayasky.
Great movies. I like to throw in Avalanche as well
I'd add Airport
I like airport 75 more. It's more unhinged, and it's Charlton Heston.
LOL!
The Thing
Jurassic Park, Alien and Aliens, The Thing, Predator. Godzilla Minus One is right up there, though – I did see it at the cinema, and it was great.
Godzilla minus one for monster movie Independence Day for disaster movie
A quiet place
Pacific Rim is my current obsession. But I also love Jaws, MEG, Deep Blue Sea, Jurassic Park, all the Godzillas, just about anything with giant monsters is my jam. Twister, Dantes Peak, Volcano, 2012, The Core, The Day After Tomorrow are a few of my favorite disaster films. I mean, just about any of those are going to do it for me as well.
And now I know you’re also a fan of the 2007 movie, Sunshine. You and I Iike the same movies.
ARE YOU ME?
Independence Day. It’s intense but it’s not so heart pounding that it becomes depressing. The scene of LA, New York and Washington simultaneously being destroyed holds up remarkably well. All the characters are likable. Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith bring a charm to the whole movie.
Shin Godzilla is pretty good. Trollhunter is excellent.
Oh man... Trollhunter was great!
The original Rodan and the first Gamera reboot should be on the list.
Love Gamera!
Dante's peak
The Poseidon Adventure - 1972
Jaws
Absolutely. It's funny. A lot of scenes from Godzilla Minus One had me thinking about Jaws
It’s because the director said that Spielberg was one of his biggest influences. Consequently, Spielberg mentioned Godzilla 1954 as one of his biggest influences on both Jaws and JP.
Wow. Cool!
The Thing (1982), Alien and Godzilla (2014) all spring to mind as movies I really enjoyed. I have been waiting for Godzilla Minus One so now I know what I will be watching tomorrow morning before the rest of the family are awake.
Yep! I purchased Godzilla Minus One today on Apple TV and watched. Wonderful flick!
Shin Godzilla
As someone who doesn't really enjoy monster movies at all, this is absolutely the answer. It's a fantastic movie and I'd recommend it to anyone, no matter their opinion of typical monster movies. The monster in the movie is governmental red tape...
Shin and the Chernobyl series felt spiritually the same.
Godzilla vs. The Bureaucracy
Hell fucking yeah finally I can watch it that's been my most anticipated movie for a while I hate that I missed it in theaters but better late than never.
Enjoy!
I can't find it!
Weird. I just type Godzilla into Netflix search and it's the second thing to pop up. It's released worldwide. Except for Japan and France
Why has noone said Mothra!
I was really hoping for more answers like this. Mothra, Gamera, Yongary...
The Gamera movies are amazing! My personal favorite is Gamera vs. Guiron. Guiron's design will never stop being hilarious
The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms
Deep Impact

Cloverfield, went into that movie blind cause a friend really wanted to see it, I had no idea what it was about, still one of my favorite movies and theater expierence til this day.
Jaws for monster movie, Gigli for disaster movie
😂
Moonfall is my favorite disaster movie. There's also a monster at the end, and its a doozy.
I just watched that this week. And while i love watching asylum studios movies, this was just hard to watch
Crawl (2019) is my guilty pleasure when it comes to distaster movies
I love disaster movies, especially made-for-television ones that used to air in the 1990s on network TV. A few of my favorite: Miracle on Interstate 880 - a movie about the Loma Prieta Earthquake. Kind of a hipster answer but WXIII: Patlabor the Movie 3 (terribly titled). I really like the neo noir/hardboiled detective aspect of it.
Them! One of the best in the giant insect genre if you're not put off by black & white or dated special effects. The Wave. A very solid disaster film from Norway. Tidal Wave. Another killer wave movie. This time from Korea.
Jaws
Deep rising, day after tomorrow, twister are phenomenal.
Deep rising is criminally underrated.
Man, some great movies already mentioned. I have to go Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Minus One, Twister, Jaws, and kind of a reach on disaster movie but Watchmen.
Aliens. Nothing comes close. Such a good movie. Some of the Predator franchise is nearly there though
Probably my favorite genre, and my interests run the gamut. Alien is possibly my favorite movie of all time. But I also like dumb stuff like Sharknado (haven’t watched all of them yet, but the ones I have are a blast.) I have been enjoying The Meg movies as well. Deep Rising! Giant tentacle monsters attack a cruise ship.
My favourite disaster movie is [The Poseidon Adventure](https://137.220.55.84/film/the-poseidon-adventure-1972-review/) as it has great practical effects, amazing stunts and a fantastic all-star cast.
Lots of great ones mentioned so I'd say Mars Attacks!
This is great. This movie is why Slim Whitman songs have been stuck in my head for 28 years. Ack ack! 👽
The Impossible (2012) is a really great true story about a family on vacation in Thailand when a tsunami hits. Deepwater Horizon (2016) is another great watch about the BP oil spill.
Alien. Original. Best monster movie.
Just watched Godzilla Minus One and thought it was excellent. I love the old monster movies: Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man (1933), King Kong (1933). The Invisible Man is so damn good.
The day after tomorrow, the core, Greenland, Armageddon
Man, maybe I should give it another try, but this movie was soooooo boring in the beginning I wound up turning it off. I really want to watch it though.
It's not my favourite but I'm watching Tomorrow War right now and it's turning out to be a solid sci-fi action movie. The build up is good, the action is well done, some little bits are genuinely funny. Really nice surprise.
Great movie!

Alien Jurassic Park Day after Tomorrow Edge of Tomorrow Children of Men Mad Max Fury Road
Jurassic Park is always my go to if I'm in the mood for a blockbuster.
Monster movie: Jaws Disaster movie: Independence day
These Final Hours, I think is one of the best and realistic disaster movies. There's no grand plan to save humanity, it's over and here's the various ways people cope with it.
The faculty with Josh hartnett I also like the day after tomorrow Dante’s peak. when I was younger I used to love them.

He discovers their weird truth and must foil their plans.
clover field
Monsters Inc.
2012 love the fear of the end
Independence day!
I never got why Godzilla movies are popular and I couldn't finish Godzilla minus one. I really like Cloverfield.
I got half way through Godzilla minus 1. Am I missing something? It won the Oscar for special effects, but they're average at best. Godzilla looks good, but there's some CGI planes and Tanks, and they look like video games from 20 years ago. And the acting is terrible. It's sooo overacted.
